Ayers mainstream? Only in Chicago

John Kass tries to explain how unrepentant domestic terrorists like William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn could be considered “mainstream”. It takes a healthy dose of The Chicago Way, but also a healthy dose of infiltration by some of Ayers’ old radical compatriots into the Daley Machine. One of Ayers’ staunch defenders in Chicago, Marilyn Katz, was part of the same SDS that launched the Weather Underground — and who now works on Team Obama:
One friend of Obama and Ayers is former ’60s radical Marilyn Katz, now an Obama fundraiser, strategist and public relations maven. She’s often a go-to quote for reporters to knock down the Ayers-Obama story.
“What Bill Ayers and [former Black Panther, now U.S. Rep.] Bobby Rush . . . did 40 years ago has nothing to do with [the presidential campaign],” Katz was quoted as saying in the Chicago Sun-Times in April. “[Ayers] has a national reputation. He lectures at Harvard [University] and Vassar [College].”
What that story and many other pro-Obama articles gloss over is that during the violent protests of the 1968 Democratic National Convention here, Katz was the security chief for the radical Students for a Democratic Society. She once advocated throwing studded nails in front of police cars, back in the SDS days when the group was alleged to have thrown cellophane bags full of human excrement at cops and cans of urine and golf balls impaled with nails.
How things change.
Under this Daley, her firm, MK Communications, has many city deals, and one involves public relations for the Chicago Police Department’s community policing program. From nails to contracts, the Chicago Way. Apparently, irony was not a ’60s thing.
When you hear that Ayers is mainstream, consider the source. And while we’re at it, how many more SDS radicals now work for Barack Obama?

I’m watching CNN – because I don’t have a choice – and Sarah Palin is speaking in Ohio…
Such clarity of thought and voice. I wonder sometimes when I read commentaries, like from Kathleen Parker, just who are they seeing and hearing when Palin speaks.

Just saw a commercial (there have been many this weekend) of Obama talking about the Apollo Astronauts and being nothing but nice to a white crowd. eh, I’m not impressed sitting here knowing what I know about Ayers. Too bad Obama. This white guy might have been impressed if I didn’t know better.
If his past is too shady for a security cleareance now, he surely shouldnt be given Presidential status.
As far as any continued advancement in space exploration with him in office, thats a whole other horror story.

One of ACE’s commenters mentions HillBuzz who has a whole lot to say.
HillBuzz says, It all ties back to Chicago. Where the Obama campaign and DNC are now based.
Intriguing? You betcha.

It is only in academia, where Barack Obama spent a significant portion of his adult life, that failed systems of thought like Marxism still thrive in the West. This is why people like Ayers are still around, and are treated as being legitimate. Oh yeah, and because Ayers father was president of ComEd.
I’m not anti-intellectual by the way. I’m just anti-idiot.

Right now I’m listening to David Axelrod shout down Rick Davis every time Davis tries to make a point. They can’t handle the truth.

Respectfully, I am so tired of these types of stories.
When it breaks, I’m sure they’ll let us know.

And he never did answer the question.
What EXACTLY is Oslime-a’s relationship with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayres? Is he just a guy in the neighborhood? Is he a friend?
The American people want to know.

Great point. The only difference between McVeigh and Ayers is the body count. Which leads me to ask; Were the Libs even upset about the Murrow Building bombing? I’m surprised they don’t hold parades to celebrate it.

I meant to comment on this earlier:
Yeah, and she also magically joined the payroll at Sidley Austin, where Barack Obama met his future wife (then Michelle Robinson) and Obama magically ended up at Davis Miner, which also has Ayers connections, later on.
Instead of repeating myself for the zillionth time, I’ll just link to one of my first comments on the topic on May 3, 2008

As someone from the same generation as Ayers and the SDS. I knew some members of the radical groups and trust me, they didn’t care if they hurt people. They were vicious and nasty, and they may have been more educated but they had the same nutty beliefs as the Manson family. And when Tom Hayden became a politician, and Jane Fonda sold exercise tapes I knew we were in really deep trouble.
Today’s young people have been taken in by their teachers, professors, the media, and parents who look back on the good old days of the revolution. And if you don’t believe me just look at the cult of Che Guevera that still exists today.
The defeat of Obama will be a defeat for these old hippies and radicals and they won’t go quietly. They see their chance to finally have total control and they will fight for it with any means at their disposal.
Do I mean violence? Not by these leaders…but then they’re never the ones to commit the violence. They will look the other way and pretend to be shocked when their young followers carry out acts of violence. But they will never say anything against it…as proven by the Obama campaign’s ignoring such incidents while criticizing the few McCain rally participants.
In 40 years of voting, I consider this the most important election ever.

A P.S. to my statement above Sen Obama you seem to know alot about Bush,s and McCain,s past but not much about your own.

I agree. I gave my optimistic speech on a Plain abortion speech headline thread yesterday(gone, now?) along these lines:
Now that Gov. Palin has given a fantastic speech, both well-written and well delivered, on abortion and how Obama’s views (and votes!) are so far left, where is Sen. McCain’s similarly inspiring speech about fixing the problems with Democrat-supported trashing of sound mortgage lending rules, including naming names, as he promised a few days ago?
He needs to announce a simple 3 or 4 point PLAN, and explain simply why the Democrats are the problem, not the solution. I think I saw a story somewhere that he is working on an economic plan to announce. Hurry up, please.
fred5678 on October 12, 2008 at 8:53 PM
They were blaming it on rightwingers. Clinton administration all but blamed Rush Limbaugh as the instigator.

Thanks. I found the first two. The third one looks right.
Incidentally, we went out to An American Carol tonight. In Toronto, where it’s playing in 5 theatres (we got lucky that our local was one of the 5). About 10 people there but it’s thanksgiving this weekend and most of the other movies seemed to be similarly deserted.
Don’t recall seeing any of Zucker’s filmes before and it was funny in spots … but fairly contrived and it really looked made for an American audience.
Not a complete waste of time … the terrorists were the best part … and Paris H.

When McCain/Palin speak it goes unreported. The MSM are making them invisible while doing the opposite to BHO.
Sad…

You should see the comments that have been left with Kass over writing this column. If anything, they are a grim reminder of how things have gone to hell as far as Chicago thinking has gone.

Ed,
Thanks for tracking down the SDS radical source for Ayers being ‘mainstream’.
Now we know this Obama talking point is just self-serving nonsense from another domestic terrorist.
Right_of_Attila on October 13, 2008 at 8:33 AM
Why is Obombem not friends as well with Tom Hayden? They should have meet as part of the Chicago 7. Oh that’s right Obombem was only 7 years old and only started meeting Hayden’s friends, like Ayres and his wife Bernardine Dohrn when he was 8.
I guess if Obombem was from California, where Hayden is an idol for his politics and being Hanoi Jane’s boy-toy, then they would have been the best of friends and Tom could have served as Obombem’s political career adviser.
The only thing all of these people have in common are they would rather ’socialize’ your life than lead the country.
