The report from the scene is that the reaction was mixed, although it doesn’t sound too mixed here.
She was treated better than the Redskins were, so, hey — moral victory.
Update: Not so mixed.
Update: Mixed. I like this, from the comments: “It’s Philly. They weren’t booing Sarah, they were booing Trig.”

Most times football and baseball fans are very respectful. Occasionally they aren’t. But in hockey? That’s a horse of a different color.
csdeven on October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM
I have no favorite sports teams, & I am generally uninterested in sports, but if there’s a game on when I’m in a room, there are five or six football teams I always root against.
The Eagles have just been added to my list.
jgapinoy on October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM
I’m from the area. Philly fans are crazy…and we’re proud of that. Our fans are not known for being respectful…no matter what the sport (Flyers and especially Eagles games are the craziest). Since I know personally how Philly fans can be, I’d say that they treated Palin pretty well.
keepinitreal on October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM
How do the kids see “us” after two months. I would think Palin’s kids only attend events done by the Republican side.
mycowardice on October 11, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Rangers fan?
Jim Treacher on October 11, 2008 at 10:07 PM
The Sports Guy on ESPN.com once said of Philladelphia sports fans: “They’d boo Jesus for dropping The Cross.”
SuperCool on October 11, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Ha! You guys are being babies. She really didn’t get treated bad…especially considering how crazy Philly fans can be and that all three states in the tri-state area are blue states. Like I said before, it was about a 50/50 split of those cheering and booing. Besides that, I would have booed myself if it was Biden or Obama out there so how can I complain about it?
keepinitreal on October 11, 2008 at 10:09 PM
As insane, lying, privacy-violating hatemongers. But not in a bad way.
Jim Treacher on October 11, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Oooh, I just want to hug that little Piper, she is the cutest!
Nice vid. I think the crowd was pro-Palin getting into the white house, they were saying “mooooooovers!”
TeeDee on October 11, 2008 at 10:11 PM
I caught the game thanks to the Internet. Not much booing. Mostly a polite reaction. Philly TV did a nice interview between the first and second period. Gomez and Dubinsky from the Rangers are from Alaska.
ivrydov on October 11, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Heard that. Been to more than a few ECW shows back in the day at “The Bingo Hall”…those fans are nuts.
SuperCool on October 11, 2008 at 10:18 PM
I’m sure it’s not “really” the case for the Governor today. But it used to be like that during Cowboys games when Daryl Moose Johnston still played. He would come into the game and it would sound like booooooo. But they were saying, Mooooose.
hawkdriver on October 11, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Don’t forget, they pelted Santa with snowballs in Philly.
Regardless, being a Devils fan, I would root against the Flyers if they were playing against The Fallen Ones.
Well, same goes for the Blue shirts.
William Teach on October 11, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Kinda like whenever Lou Pinella sets foot on the field at Yankee Stadium; “LOOOOOOOOOOOOU! LOOOOOOOOOOOOU!”
SuperCool on October 11, 2008 at 10:23 PM
LOL, yep
They should have blown kisses at the crowd…and since Palin was as sportscaster for a couple of years, she would certainly know the reputation of Philly fans.
funky chicken on October 11, 2008 at 10:25 PM
I think we’re watching these things too microscopically.
She went to the game. There was booing. She wasn’t phased by it.
How does this play out in November?
No idea.
Did she win the respect of some Flyers fans for facing the boos with equanimity? Did she win votes in Philly from women embarrassed by the unruly crowd? Did it play well with fans of hockey teams with historic rivalries with the Flyers — say in Pittsburgh?
Again, I have no idea how this plays out in the vote.
If you think you do, could you explain why?
ClintACK on October 11, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Philly fans are the worst, so the fact that an endless torrent of beer cups and food didn’t start flying means they were civil.
doubleplusundead on October 11, 2008 at 10:32 PM
LOL
Clint, I’d call it a net positive. It sure shows that she and the family are tough. And yeah, maybe it will help in Pittsburg LOL
other cities with hockey teams too, perhaps
funky chicken on October 11, 2008 at 10:39 PM
My son went to the game, and I reminded him to be respectful, knowing the idiots in the crowd wouldn’t be.
Look at her. How could you not vote for somebody that good looking?
RWLA on October 11, 2008 at 10:41 PM
They weren’t booing they were saying Buuuurrrrrrrrnnnnss–Waylon Smithers on the Simpsons
Kevin43 on October 11, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Do they have jail cells in the Hockey areana also……as they do in the present and prior football stadiums?

“Greetings, Sarah Palin, from the City of - Punch! Kick! Boo! Yell! F— You, you crazy b—-! You snow-billy s—heads! - of Brotherly Love!”
newton on October 11, 2008 at 11:01 PM
My best friend is from Philly and he is a hockey fan (although his allegiances are to the Sharks now that he lives in CA).
He told me that Philly sports fans are so foul they would boo their own mothers. I believe him.
Sarah is so brave. She is now fully vetted and has the whole world ahead of her.
Sarah, stay in the campaign now for yourself and get as much TV time to make more speeches like the one about Obama and infanticide.
We will remember when O’man’s socialism creates inflation and unemployment like Carter that you preached that government IS the problem.
Sapwolf on October 11, 2008 at 11:05 PM
I live in the philly burbs and work there. Been to many Flyers games–its a tough crowd. She did just fine, considering that 110% of Philly’s registered voters will vote for Obama.
She did an interview with the Philly locals between periods. It went very, very well. She talked about being a hockey mom–hockey parent–in a way that any hockey parent can relate to. Fans in the burbs watch on the TV, don’t go in to town for games much. Believe me, she won some votes here.
Kudos to Sarah and the Campaign for coming to the lion’s den.
james23 on October 11, 2008 at 11:06 PM
It’s a huge hockey town. There may be a fair number of voters who do not know much about Gov. Palin (I don’t know many hockey people who are very political) and she may win some votes.
rockmom on October 11, 2008 at 11:13 PM
I didn’t hear much booing; then again I also have no idea what she did wrong.
Reaps on October 11, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Well, since John Street was the mayor up until Jan. ‘08, I’m sure that he and Barry had a couple of strategy sessions. Here’s a classic one from good ol’ Mayor Street…
Yeah. Barry would definitely feel that brotherly love in Philly.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 11, 2008 at 11:21 PM
Why would she subject her kids to that? FOX News says she was using her daughter as a shield. Why would she do that?
Len on October 11, 2008 at 11:26 PM
I meant, Palin has only attended pro-Palin rallies up to now, so even if her daughter attended those, she never saw her mom being booed. So how would her daughter know about the people that dislike Sarah Palin’s policies?
mycowardice on October 11, 2008 at 11:32 PM
THAT was anti-climactic. Couldn’t make out anything definite from the crowd, and the hockey players were wayyy too polite. That was Philly? Sounded more like my house during Thanksgiving dinner.
trailboss on October 11, 2008 at 11:36 PM
After the long list recited here of offenses Philly fans have committed, including booing a mom with her young daughters, you’re defending them?
P.S. I’m annoyed at Sarah for subjecting her daughters to that, though I’m sure she warned them & they wanted to anyway.
jgapinoy on October 11, 2008 at 11:47 PM
So I’m curious…what does Axelrod do…send an email every morning and say this is todays astroturf theme or meme assignment? or do you guys go to a daily in person staff briefing or is it done by video conferencing? I’m just curious….
CCRWM on October 11, 2008 at 11:48 PM
I’m sure she warned the girls, & I’m sure they wanted to anyway.
jgapinoy on October 11, 2008 at 11:50 PM
You warn a 7 year old? You let a 7 year old decide what is best for him/her?
mycowardice on October 11, 2008 at 11:57 PM
They would have booed Obama much worse. Biden would have been booed, too.
I have Penguins season tickets. The Flyers play here in Pittsburgh often. Last year during a playoff game the entire row behind me were Flyers fans. Once they noticed that I had an artificial leg, they wasted no time talking about it, calling me a “f***ing cripple”.
Philadelphia is the only city that I would never set “foot” in.
jay12 on October 11, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Ok time for Gov Palin to go to Pittsburgh and see what class is. We are ashamed of our brpothers in the eat. They are classless. the penguins will show her class and decorum. the philly fans are as*hioles that have not been house broken. Allah is among the group.
unseen on October 12, 2008 at 12:01 AM
I wouldn’t expect much less. When Philly fans come to Jersey they are as classless as it gets. I’ve seen more fights in the stands then when the Devils face the Rangers.
Rbastid on October 12, 2008 at 12:09 AM

They reacted like that because she doesn’t look like the other hockey players, and she doesn’t sound like them when she talks, and her name sounds different from all the other players on the ice.

I enjoy Ed’s posts. So I stick around. however I don’t visit as much as before. If allah doesn’t like the negativity ban me. I don’t care. Ed at least is fair. Calling the good with the bad. Allah IRT GOv Palin is 100% hatred on her. I find his remarks beyond the pale esp with an election in 3 weeks. I get he doesn’t like her for whatever reason, I get he doesn’t like conservatives for whatever reason. But a blooger on a conservative website should not be anti-conservative. If this was KOS or Huffpo I could understand. However this is a conservative website not a metrosexual quasi-conservative/quasi-liberal website.
It’s about comments says:
A Note from the Founder
Welcome to the world’s first full-service conservative Internet broadcast network!
Notice it doesn’t say Welcome to a place where we bash the VP canidate day and night of our party. I expect Allah to live up to the founders ideas of why the blog was started not to be the MSM’s B*tch.

PS, Why would anyone vote for Obama, the guy whose ACORN organization , Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, Leman Bros AIG and their pocket lined cronies, Frank, Pelosi, Dodd and Water when they were the ones that almost destroyed the world economy.
PPS, Your site is a joke, but you’re welcome for the counter click. I’m sure you don’t get many, Troll.
hawkdriver on October 12, 2008 at 2:10 AM
Really? We boo you, and you still show up here. Your judgment is apparently no better.
Good judgment to a liberal is sending your campaign representatives to meet with people from Hamas and Hezbollah, then a few weeks later calling it a “mistake”.
Yeah, Obama. “Oops! We met with Hamas! Hey, did you hear? Sarah Palin bought a tanning bed!”

trailboss on October 12, 2008 at 2:37 AM
She’s a hockey mom. She knows the crowds. Most fans hate the ceremonies that keep the game from starting and yeah in Philly there won’t be a big Palin booster club. They boo when the singer hogs time on the anthem. I thought the players looked a bit intimidated although they got some kisses. To me coming from Detroit that crowd sounded tame.
Hockey has gotten quieter. The best moment I remember in Hockey was before the crackdown on fighting and throwing octopus on the ice. A probably drunken fan climbed over the glass and fell in the red wing seats. Wow. Players surrounded the guy and pummeled him. It looked like a cartoon as they clobbered him. Pound. Pound. Pound. What a great game it was back before PC. I used to have it on tape but the tapes were misplaced

Of all places for her to do this . . . the Peoples Republic of Philadelphia. That place makes Cuba look like a conservative enclave.
rplat on October 12, 2008 at 6:59 AM
Politico indicated there was a lot of booing, but I am beginning to discount anything I read at Politico. They seem to be in the tank for “that one”. I have removed their link from my favorites list.
bopbottle on October 12, 2008 at 7:23 AM
Here’s the interview she did for Coatsey’s Corner at the break which is so sweet! I love how she says her son was embarrassed when she would knock on the “glass” partition when she thought something bad was happening so she had to busy herself with taking stats and such! All the haters are crazy; I love that this real, great, self-made woman is driving them crazy.

Anyone going into a Philly arena has to know they’re dealing with a bunch of blowhards trying to outdo each other. Just comes with the deal. It’s what you might call herd mentality.
I suspect the Governor can handle it.
ztower on October 12, 2008 at 8:01 AM
I said, if Palin wanted to show up, it’s her problem. Bringing in her kid when she knows there is a big likelyhood to be booed is another.
I know that most of you will boo me (except Allahpunding who we know is a secret Obama fan :). I am an adult, and I will take it.
Diversions work great. Hey, ever heard of Ayers?

No, dummy, booing Palin’s kids is your problem. It shows the left for what you are. You also show your own stupidity by trying to rationalize bad behavior.

I can’t even look. Liberals are scum.
“It’s Philly. They weren’t booing Sarah, they were booing Trig.”
OMG what a funny line Allah.
Well remember this friends (and in no way am I giving up) if God forbid these creeps get the white house, you sure won’t have to worry about another Democratic government in our lifetime. It’s staggering to me when I think of how badly they are going to screw things up.
Just think of the messiah’s plane. OMG (stinky, unorganized and nasty to the press (who kiss their a**es anyway) Ubelievable.

sashal on October 12, 2008 at 9:16 AM
Allah, you mean they were booing Sarah Palin’s grandkid?
Anyway, I heard it mixed boos and cheers which is great considering it is Philly. I’d expect beer bottles and more to be thrown from the City of Brotherly (not Sisterly) Love.
It was great to see the Palin family showing love aand respect to the crowd.
eaglewingz08 on October 12, 2008 at 9:24 AM
Turns out the hockey fans were the nice ones.
Here’s the Inquirer story on Palin’s day in Philly:
Such tolerant liberals
rockmom on October 12, 2008 at 9:36 AM
Just a reminder, Obama was in four different places in Philly yesterday. But 400 of his goons preferred to hurl obscenities at Sarah Palin and her daughters. There is no such thing as 400 people spontaneously organizing a protest in Philadelphia.
rockmom on October 12, 2008 at 9:38 AM
Words from your own site you liberal POS. (HA don’t bother clicking his meter, I did it for you)
“So we had the discussion regarding Trig and Bristol… “
(Why was the discussion even had about Trig and Bristol on your site? Because liberal nutcases pushed it forward as a story and you liberal nutcase sites ran with it. And so did the MSM. So who is guilty of doing harm to Governor Palins kids? Let me answer for the future ambulance chaser. YOU ARE!!!)
“Now this one? I think it’s illogical to do what she did considering she knew there was a chance of this happening. That she is willing to brave the boos is one thing. That she is willing to get her daughter to suffer through that is another.”
“Obviously, there are situations where you might want that. If you are standing for what is right, then bring your kid along because you have no reason to be ashamed. But here, it’s a purely political move in a political campaign. There is no underlying moral reason.”
(What? Like going to a war protest and calling the sitting President Hitler and looking at all the thugs in bandanas chant harm to the soldiers defending the country and assault the nice police officers? Nice double standard Einstein. I hope your professors are very liberal and pass you over the conservatives in your class because after reading your posts and evaluating your reasoning powers. Oh wait, you want to be a trial lawyer. Never mind.)
You have to LOVE!!! liberals. After a hate campaign that has gone on for near two months. One that has had hit absolutely rock bottom against this woman and her family (to include a blue baby jumper Trig size with “Retarded Future Republicans” on it being sold on liberal web sites). You have the unmitigated gall, yes gall you blathering idiot, to come to a conservative site and troll on about how she’s not a good mother because she dared to take her kids to a place were her might actually see the hatred of you lefties head on.
News flash, the entire world would be a nicer place if you lefties weren’t so damn hateful. LOOK IN THE DAMN MIRROR!
God I hate trolls.
hawkdriver on October 12, 2008 at 9:39 AM
Which part of the f* up are you talking about. Where we were victorious in a war and then the Democrats and the MSM starting doing everything they could do to help us lose it?
Or are you talking about the economy that was brought down by 1000s of bad loans to people who should have never got them by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that John McCain warned about two years ago, that the Republicans in Congress warned and held hearing about 4 years ago where Franks, Waters, Pelosi and other liberal Democrats blocked and called conservatives racists for even bringing it up. Nice try. These hard times are the result of decades of liberals strong arming liberal policies and programs. How are those ACORN I get to vote 75 times registrations going?
hawkdriver on October 12, 2008 at 9:48 AM
I really would like to say she was booed because everyone hates her, but honestly Philly fans boo everything.
crr6 on October 12, 2008 at 9:56 AM
Yup, every time I hear the kids sing the praises of obama.
Nice try. A C for effort, an F for the attempted projection.
TwinkietheKid on October 12, 2008 at 10:04 AM
The analysis which suggested that any polician in the world would have been booed to death at a Philly hockey game had it right, except for one part - the videa I just watched and listened to was a solid wall of very loud cheers. I don’t know what the fairy sportswriters were hearing - or feeling - but those were cheers.
Granted, effete pansy Obama wouldn’t have a fan at a hockey game anywhere in the world, except possibly Sweden.
This report is more about the feminization of sports reporting. What a bunch of sissies.
Jaibones on October 12, 2008 at 10:19 AM
Just saw the clip of this on the news.
Why were there several people in the background holding up official Obama/Biden signs?
Do Philadelphians normally bring these signs to hockey events?
Did everybody know that Palin was going to be there before hand?
If so, I’d be curious to see what the ticket sales were compared to an average night…
Skywise on October 12, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Philly fans are scum; Philly is a ghetto town full of degenerates. Every real hockey fan hates the Flyers because they are such dirty players. They can only win by being talentless thugs. Who does Philly have that’s worth a damn? Briere? Give me a break. Getting booed by Philly fans is a compliment.
foxforce91 on October 12, 2008 at 10:29 AM
It was planned that she would be there to drop the puck. The Dems were asking the fans to turn their backs on her, bring their signs and boo her.
foxforce91 on October 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Good observation. And why is Obama making four appearances in Philly in one day, anyway? Surely he has that city sewn up, right?
I think he’s worried about the rest of PA and wants to drive up turnout in Philly to offset his losses elsewhere.
Missy on October 12, 2008 at 10:34 AM
And then the websites post all over Digg and Kos (and here) about how she was BOOED in Philadelphia and must be hated.
That she wasn’t booed completely in this setup says quite a bit…
Skywise on October 12, 2008 at 10:40 AM
And to be fair Philly fans just boo anything - particularly Flyers fans. And hockey fans are generally more conservative - as are, I guess most sports fans overall. I’m sure Sarah Palin wasn’t phased by any booing. She knows hockey, she knows Philly’s reputation, and she was probably thrilled about it all.
foxforce91 on October 12, 2008 at 10:52 AM
It’s prophetic…the Flyers lost. Mrs. Palin is a Rangers fan with 2 Alaska men (including Gomez) on their team. I watched the game…there were many fans who cheered her. What a gracious beautiful woman…she also talked to Coatsey and said she told her son Trac when he played hockey: “If you are going to get a penalty, make it worth your while and grind the other guy into the boards”. That’s our girl.
gracie on October 12, 2008 at 10:57 AM
Oooh, yeah, and relying on Ben Smith for any kind of balanced report makes sooooo much sense….
The Osama Obama campaign is frighteningly adept at putting hate-filled crowds where they need them. Did his campaign buy a bunch of tickets to the game?
We will probably never know how much sh*t has been stirred at The Messiah’s direct orders. The media will never, ever admit that their Savior could do such a thing. Even though he does it daily.

Watch Sean Hannity on Monday nite and see how Obama inspired his cousin Odinga, radical Muslim of Kenya to kill many (Christian) tribesmen in 2008 with similar techniques.

What is this, Ghost Hunters? Do we also hear the dead speaking in the background, too?
I think I heard someone shout in the crowd, “Elvis Is Really Alive And Making UFOs In Antarctica And Hates Palin.” Well, you have to play the movie backwards to hear it, and listen really closely, but it’s there. Clear as day.
If having the intelligence to match or exceed a noodle of spaghetti was a voting requirement, this kind of thing wouldn’t be an issue. But what can I say? America gets the politicians it deserves.
CatsGodot on October 12, 2008 at 11:12 AM
As far as booing goes, don’t forget that the Flyers fans boo’d their won goalie when he got yanked last night.

Unseen, respectfully, I think you’re being a little more than over the top here IRT AP.
A lot of the time AP shows us glimpses of the world outside our comfy little echo chamber here at HA. Or provides a devil’s advocate stance that has more than once caused me to think about and research things I otherwise wouldn’t have even thought of.
I know you want blind allegiance, especially this close to the elections, but I’m not sure that’s the best thing.
Does AP have a perverse sense of humor and does he know how to blog articles that get massive numbers of comments? You betcha.
Is he an evil tool of the msm, working to thwart the enthusiasm of the GOP and keep us from voting? Not so much.
I look at it more as a way to toughen us up a bit.
Personally, I wouldn’t want you to get yourself banned in a moment of white hot anger, because I for one enjoy your posts.

As a native Philadelphian and a ravenous Philly fan (one of the ones Santa warned you about), my thoughts? So what. Think about this:
-Philly fans (and I) booed the loser mayor John Street, Luke Perry and a 35 year old lady who choked on the “Make a goal and win a truck” contest.
-Philadelphia…though I love it with all my heart…would vote Satan incarnate in as long as he was liberal and Democrat. This is seen in there mayorial and city council races where criminals have served.
-It’s a hockey crowd. Testosterone and alcohol make us do weird things.
-Philly doesn’t know her enough. Yeah, they’d probably disagree with her politically, but they would have to like her for the sake of being a hard worker with an attitude.
As for any hate towards Philly fans, don’t comment unless you understand us.

Next thing we’ll see is McCain going on Letterman.

Way worse than the boos—the comments under the article-so much boiling hatred on the left,it’s truly spooky.

Let’s stop hating of the Flyers. They did beat the hell out of the Soviets and for that we owe them debt of gratitude. :)

Tip O’Neill once warned his fellow pols not to be announced at sporting events. Guaranteed boo-ing.
Oh well, not everybody is in the Palin fan club… yet!

I’d mark him down on the effort given that Ed referenced that excact same scene right here on hotair about, what, 5 days ago?

For the love of God, please stop the hate. These people were booing and shouting; this is awful… I mean it’s not even a McCain/Palin rally!
Why so much hate, why??
sophiesmom on October 12, 2008 at 2:53 PM
That’s a good question. Many on this site have tried to figure out why liberals have gotten so damn mean. Michelle Malkin has a great montage up right now. And like she said, she didn’t even go into assaults on recruiters.

When I lived in South Jersey, I went to many a Philly hockey game at the once great Spectrum now the new Wachovia Center - what’s it gonna be called after this mess I don’t know - but I digress….
It always looked like Thunder Dome to me.
Who was it that said, I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out?

I doubt you will ever read this, but let me correct a few things you said.
First, the comment in my post related to Trig and Bristol was more in the context of people getting banned from discussing those on another website. I don’t think I directly posted about these two topics (at best I had a post about the Dr. André Lalonde story). Anyways, this was in reference to something else.
Second, I don’t plan to be a trial lawyer or an ambulance chaser. Also, what is a trial lawyer? The one that shows up at trial? You hate trial lawyers from both sides of every issue? You only like the government prosecutors? What about in civil disputes?
Third, I love that you try to pin on me stuff done by others (like the retarded republican reference), but I didn’t do any of that.
Fourth, most of your post is a personal attack. I don’t see myself as a troll, I try to be honest in my postings and reasoning, so it would be more productive if you didn’t spend 80% of your post insulting me.
Finally, I commented on this story and said she lacked judgment. I don’t think you have the monopoly of ideas, so it might be helpful to listen to other viewpoints once in a while.
On this note, I yet don’t understand if you think Palin showed good judgement.
mycowardice on October 12, 2008 at 6:39 PM
Yes, yes. She showed good judgement because she like me and most other good conservatives refuse to back down from liberal thuggery. If it’s out there our kids need to see it and you guys for what you are. Now go back to your John Edwards shrine.
