Obama: Don’t let McCain “hoodwink” or “bamboozle” you

Delivered, with exquisite nuance, within two minutes of congratulating Maverick for toning down the rhetoric yesterday in Minnesota and within a few hours of Rep. John Lewis comparing McCain to George Wallace, a smear for which the campaign is demanding an apology. In fact, Obama used this same rhetoric against the Clintons before the South Carolina primary and was called on it by the New Republic, among other lefty websites. TNR contributor Cinque Henderson:
His use of the phrase is resonant. It comes from a scene in Malcolm X, where Denzel Washington warns black people about the hidden evils of “the White Man” masquerading as a smiling politician: “Every election year, these politicians are sent up here to pacify us,” he says. “You’ve been hoodwinked. Bamboozled.”
By uttering this famous phrase, Obama told his black audience everything it needed to know. He was helping to convince blacks that the first two-term Democratic president in 50 years, a man referred to as the first black president, is in fact a secret racist. As soon as I heard that Obama had quoted from Malcolm X like this, I knew that Obama would win South Carolina by a massive margin.
It’s code, in other words, used by The One when he wants to accuse his opponents of racism but doesn’t want to do it so directly that he’ll be held accountable. I’ll let Jonathan Martin take it from there.

Spot on anniekc. I travel to bases all over the country and meet conservatives from all backgrounds. I haven’t talked to one who hasn’t said, when is he going to turn up the heat on ACORN, FM/FM and others. When is he going to get fired up. If he’s waiting to get his tone of the campaign to an acceptable “media approved” level, it ain’t going to happen.
Senator McCain, you asked us to “Fight with you.” We’re ready!
If we have to lose, let’s go down fighting. In the paraphrased words of Sam Houston, may the ruins of the Republican Party be the monument of my grave. No other party is worth fighting for. And damn the opinion of the MSM!
hawkdriver on October 11, 2008 at 5:10 PM
This poser will never be my president! He’s a disgrace, brought up through the ranks of Chicago style politics. He’s nothing more than a smooth talking, corrupt, ends-justify-the-means politician (which makes him perfectly suitable for democrats) and it will catch up to him. Sadly, probably not before November, but the truth is a funny thing and it will come full circle.

Actually MoDo is supposed to be publishing a column tomorrow in which she accuses McCain of “inciting” crowds against Obama. So basically Obama warns about guys in hoods, and MoDo compares GOP supporters to lynch mobs.

It could be just part of his acculturation, and he used it offhand and without any particular meaning. Not defending Obambastic, per se. Just playin’ the ‘let’s be fair’ card.
trailboss on October 11, 2008 at 5:14 PM
I can’t help but notice he’s not saying it to McCain’s face.
Jim Treacher on October 11, 2008 at 5:15 PM
Nothing new here. But I wonder were is Hillary Clinton’s pride in this? Or her supporters? Are they going to sit and watch the same game that was played against her in the primaries being played now against McCain and Palin? Just a thought.
clemycali on October 11, 2008 at 5:16 PM
That’s fine, except as I say, he was called on this rhetoric earlier this year, so even if he didn’t know where it came from before, he knows now. If McCain picked up some language haphazardly that turned out to have been coined in some racially charged context and was then informed of it, would he be given a break the next time he used it?
Allahpundit on October 11, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Great line! Next debate prep material!
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 11, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Of course not. And at the last debate, Obama will revert to the reassuring, smooth-talking moderate who can convince the working class whites and on-the-fence independents that he’s no threat to their liberties or their bank accounts. Maybe Obama will toss a small compliment McCain’s way to show he’s “gracious” in victory (until 1/20/09, that is).
Wethal on October 11, 2008 at 5:18 PM
I listened to that broadcast and those statements were completely out of context. But I’m sure you never listened to a minute of the show. If you ever have any questions about Mr. Limbaugh or what is really said on his program, feel free to ask.
hawkdriver on October 11, 2008 at 5:19 PM
All of this is so ironic since Teh One chose Joe “Inserts foot in mouth” Biden as his running mate.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 11, 2008 at 5:19 PM
McCain says blockhead things repeatedly, I’m sure even the ‘O’ does the same.
Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be called on it, and hard. Just saying I don’t think any pol is so smart and so smooth that you can live by every word proceeding out of their mouths.
trailboss on October 11, 2008 at 5:20 PM
Anyone who is an “independent” and still doesn’t know who to vote for is probably too freaking stupid to get what Barry’s doing.
Besides, people have been told all sorts of conspiracy theories about the eeeevil Bush for the last 8 years, so telling them that he won’t allow them to be hoodwinked and bamboozled flatters their egos.
We’re smart. We know Bush/Cheney/Rove are the devil. I won’t let that happen again. Trust me.

Again–the guy is going into Pennsylvania, where Lynn Forrester de Rothschild just set up a campaign office for John McCain, and where Hillary supporter Ed Rendell is governor, and reapeating the racist language he used in South Carolina before the primary there.
He is purposefully humiliating Hillary again. The giving her the finger, the flicking her off his shoulders and off his shoes like dog poop. The 99 Problems but a b**tch ain’t one, playing “Addicted to Love” as Bill Clinton left the stage at the DNC, and the Malcolm X language.
This is a guy who shares the Malcolm X ideology. He believes that “white man’s greed runs (did he mean ruins?) a world in need.”
And he apparently also believes that he has nothing to fear from Hillary and Bill Clinton. I hope that they prove him wrong.
funky chicken on October 11, 2008 at 5:22 PM
I have wondered what the Clintons were up to myself. Bubba was to campaign for Obama once the Jewish holidays were over Thursday night.
I keep clinging to some slim hopes about the election. One of them is that the Clintons will not let Obama get elected if they can do so without leaving their fingerprints on it. Hillary is not only done for as a possible POTUS, but Obama would have effectively squelched the Clinton /DLC faction in the Dem party and kept it from ever having influence in the party again.

Rendell’s wife would have been a short-lister for SCOTUS had Hillary been nominated and elected, and Eddy might have been an AG pick. While Eddy has to GOTV for Obama, I think he knows Obama has a long memory, and Midge Rendell had better be satisfied with the Third Circuit, because that’s all she’ll ever get if Obama gets in.

No, funkychicken, I didn’t. I’ve been here all the way. Mrs. Palin doesn’t have the miles Mrs. Clinton has on her, but she’s got the convictions and the “guns” (not the ones with bullets). Different person at a different time…it would knock the Dems off stride for the 2 weeks it would take to walk into office with a beauty queen and and a real American hero.
And by the way, BuckeyeSam’s idea of Mrs. Palin doing a press conference to explain her abuse of power and set the stage for her Presidency is a fabulous idea.

Attack, attack, attack.
Hillary failed because she assumed the media would do a background check on Obama and report the good, the bad and the questionable about Obama.
The media only reported the good.
Hillary should have been educating the public every day with “Who really is Barack Obama?”.
Hillary failed because she did not attack Obama enough.
Hillary failed because listened to all the people and press complaining about her attacking Obama.
McCain is following in the same footsteps as Hillary.
Everyday day there needs to be a new chapter and follow-up on earlier chapters trying to educate the public and answer the question, “Who really is Barack Obama?” (Answer: He is a far, far left socialist with an deep empathy for Marxist communism, Muslims and for blacks getting back what they feel they are owed to them by whites. You basically take the Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright philosophies/agendas and smash them together – that is Obama.)
——————-
Obama is now coasting to election day, trying to look unthreatening to white voters. His 30-minute commercial on TV will be so “white”, voters will think Obama is Fred McMurry from the TV show “My 3 Sons” or Ozzie Nelson in “The Nelsons” show Ward Cleaver in “Leave it to Beaver”.
Non-threatening and cool…don’t put fear in the white voters.
As Obama wrote in his book on the trick he learned with dealing with white people:
“It was usually an effective tactic, another one of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied as long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved–such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn’t seem angry all the time.” pg 94

Attack, attack, attack.

Yep. ACORN trainer/lawyer Obama has been at ground zero of this whole PC-inspired mess: everybody is “entitled” to own a house whether they can afford one or not, and the gov’t should be guaranteeing all these crummy sub-prime loans so we can make the American dream of homeownership a reality for every minority and illegal alien. Obama helped train these ACORN thugs, the same ones who go out and intimidate banks to make more CRA-mandated loans to people who can’t afford them. Obama also represented ACORN in a lawsuit against a bank — suing the bank for not being more irresponsible in its lending practices.
Now Obama the economic genius wants to solve all the problems caused by years of irresponsible gov’t borrowing and overspending (to support the kind of PC idiocy that Obama and ACORN advocate) by doing even MORE borrowing and spending. He’s proposing yet another gov’t “stimulus” — giving away hundreds of billions of dollars that we don’t have. Brilliant! And after that, he’ll raise taxes on “the rich” and on businesses — because we all know how much that kind of action always stimulates the economy.
It’s as if Obama supporters are nostalgic for the Great Depression and want to see it return. Looks like they may get their wish.

On December 1, 1963, when he was asked for a comment about the assassination of President Kennedy, Malcolm X said that it was a case of “chickens coming home to roost”. He added that “chickens coming home to roost never did make me sad; they’ve always made me glad”.

That we are to become happy slaves to a corrupt and corrupting system that is bent on destroying our future, our freedoms and our free enterprise system simply to buy votes from subsidized voters who produce practically nothing and who continually parasitize the rest of us?
What’s happening here was not some act of G-d. Nowhere before in the history of the world have people been able to buy houses without downpayments or verifiable employment. It was political corruption and worse..
The long-term winners here is China and the Asian markets. And if they have a brain in their heads, they’ll continue to save, work hard, pay their bills and tell us to drop dead.
