Dean Barnett update

Earlier this week, I wrote about Dean Barnett’s current struggle with cystic fibrosis and how it landed him in the ICU. I asked for prayers, and we got a tremendous response from Hot Air readers. I’ve also seen how much concern bloggers have for Dean in the repeated requests for updates on his condition, but until this evening, I just hadn’t heard anything.
Duane Patterson e-mailed me a little earlier this evening with an update he received on Dean’s status, which sounds a little more optimistic than we’d previously heard:
Dean still in fragile state on a breathing machine in ICU. He is very willful and is fighting hard – the doctors are so impressed with him. His downward spiral stopped on Thursday, and we hope that with the continued prayers he will turn a corner this week end. He is in and out of consciousness.
Let’s keep those prayers coming for Dean and his family.

Even this elderly Aussie in London has read some of Dean’s carefully-written and very persuasive pieces. And I have heard him a couple of times on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, streamed over the Net.
He is one of the good guys – the very good guys. A decent light in a dark world.
I wish Dean well, and his family and friends.

GET WELL CHOWDAH, formerly known as Hewitt’s Man Friday.
There is golf to be played. Perhaps Pebble Beach or some other sea side links (since salt spray helps CF). We want you back, you need to beat up on McCain (trust me he needs it).

My prayers go out to him. The struggle to breathe is frustrating, frightening, and tortuous…I know, have end-stage COPD myself. Hang in there, pal!

Chief of which is Dean, at the moment.
We need him.

Praying for you, Dean & family.
You’re a lot tougher and more resilient than the markets, which is why I don’t much give a rat’s ass about them. But about you and yours, yeah.

R’fuah shlema, Dean.
Hope you come back so I can tell you all about my friend’s son’s “thumpies.” (Dean’s probably getting the grownup version of them himself.) CF is a tough one, but they’re so, so close to a cure.

Dear Dean,
My prayers are with you and your family. I hope you beat this disease so bad it decides to go away from anyone.
The grace of your example, fighting against hard odds, is an inspiration. I have my challenges, but they are small compared to yours. That you are so courageous forces me to reconsider how I deal with my problems. I don’t seek to compete with you, just that doing better than I am is within my capability, and I am going to do it.
We go through life and leave a wake, as a boat does, and we affect others we may not know. Whatever happens, you have left a wonderful wake, example, and thank you for it.
God bless and keep you. I have faith He will be with you when you need Him most. He, of all, rides with us, no matter what, where or how.
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.

Somebody tell Dean that there’s a lot of folks out here that are worried sick about him, and who are patiently waiting for him to turn the corner on this tough health condition. God bless you Dean, we love you.

Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, Who have sent Your only-begotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ to heal every sickness and infirmity, visit and heal also Your servant Dean from all physical and spiritual ailments through the grace of Your Christ. Grant him patience in this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us through Your word to pray for each other that we may be healed. I pray, heal Your servant Dean and grant to him the gift of complete health. For You are the source of healing and to You I give glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord our God, Who by a word alone did heal all diseases, Who did cure the kinswoman of Peter, You Who chastise with pity and heal according to Your goodness; Who are able to put aside every sickness and infirmity, do You Yourself, the same Lord, grant aid to Your servant Dean and cure him of every sickness of which he is grieved; and send down upon him Your great mercy, and if it be Your will, give to him health and a complete recovery; for You are the Physician of our souls and bodies, and to You do we send up Glory: to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Both now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Praying for Dean in his time of need. May the Lord continue to heal his body and increase his strength. May Dean’s will to live be as strong as ever. In Jesus’ name. Amen
“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—
from violent men you save me.
I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.
“The waves of death swirled about me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the LORD;
I called out to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.

Dean, they won game 1 against the Rays!
Hugh Hewitt was saying how he couldn’t wait to tease you when the Sox lost. Dean, you gotta get well so that you can boast when they win. Sorry, Hugh, but this is serious.
Dean you are one of the good guys, I am praying that you will recover and return to share your unique insights into to this crazy, mixed-up world.
May God be with you and your family and may you be touched with His healing grace, according to His will, we ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen

Dean and I are the same age, and for that reason, I’ve always felt more than just an appreciation of his work, more of a connection (even when we disagree).
I’ve always regarded the efforts he has made in his battle with cystic fibrosis as an epic struggle, and admired the positive attitude that he has maintained. The fact that he has overcome so much health wise, makes me appreciate the blessings that I have with my health had as we share the same “life time line”. So I am urging you Dean – you can do this, just as you have before. Make the best out of what you have. It’s inconsequential, I know, but I feel like I am struggling in this fight with you. Do it Dean. You are in our prayers.

Anything new on Dean? How’s he doing today?
He is much too good to lose.

Godspeed and good health dear friend.
