ACORN may face new charges in PA; Update: Video added
posted at 9:39 am on October 10, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
The probe into fraudulent voter registrations in Allegheny County may soon produce criminal charges, according to the DA. The charges may not be limited to the misdemeanor of registration fraud, either, but potentially forgery — a felony that carries a stiff sentence:
The Allegheny County district attorney said Thursday that criminal charges could result from nearly 100 fraudulent voter registrations submitted in the Pittsburgh area, some of which came from a group accused of flooding elections offices around the country with bogus applications. …
“There are clearly people on some of these applications that were not solicited … or may not exist,” he said.
Asked whether the investigation would lead to charges, Zappala said: “There appears to be a crime, yes.”
Violations of election laws generally are misdemeanor charges, but forging a signature on an official document is a violation of criminal law and could be a felony. In Pennsylvania, a second-degree felony forgery conviction could carry up to 10 years in prison.
This could be a promising path to take with other prosecutions. If workers sign fraudulent registration cards, that becomes forgery, and that’s a felony in most if not all jurisdictions. Also, if memory serves, perjury can also apply in some cases of entering false information on government forms, but perhaps that doesn’t apply to voter registrations. If not, it should.
Let’s hope the Allegheny County DA files the toughest charges he can find. The only way to stop ACORN from committing its systemic fraud throughout the nation is to start filing tough charges against its foot soldiers, who can then expose the executives for any directives they have issued to generate thousands upon thousands of fraudulent registrations. When the canvassers start facing 10-year sentences, we will start hearing plenty about ACORN management.
Update: Just to give a flavor of ACORN’s tactics, Palestra interviewed one of the most-registered voters in our nation’s history:
Here’s the most insidious part about the effort. The flood of registrations ACORN supplies creates an overload for registrars, who then have a more difficult time finding the more subtle cases of registration fraud. Is ACORN deliberately overloading registrars to hide some other effort?
Also, I’ve changed the post title. I know Allegheny County is Pittsburgh, but for some reason I wrote Philly. Must be the Steagles era that confused me.

Doesn’t anyone else here see the pattern?
1. Take over the media for its propaganda pattern.
2. Undermine the “free” election process, emphasizing voter fraud.
3. Undermine the economy.
It’s all going down like clockwork. Fidel, Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Marx, Pol Pot, would all be proud.

Where is the investigative reporting on this scandal…Obama, a former lawyer and director of an Acorn GOTV project, who slyly donated 800k to Acorn….and we have, what, the 13th state now with fake voter registrations?
Imagine R’s had thousands of people registering ghosts to vote.
Where are the Bob Woodwards of the world on this?
I do want to point out that getting alot of people registered to vote is one (pretty easy) thing, actually having them go to different polling places is another, right? Least I hope so…

Oh That’s right- that would only happen if McCain was ahead!

If we ever manage to get all the dead and felons to stop voting and start allowing people to only vote once, will voter turnout drop to about 1% and will we learn that Hillary only made about 1800 cracks in that ‘ol glass ceiling?

People should be in jail over this, for long sentences.
Including ACORN’s financier, Barack Obama.
This undermines the country in so many ways.
It’s part of the Democrat Party tradition to steal votes, but now they’ve become so brazen that even bastions of worthless, corrupt and incompetent Democrat Party hacks like Pittsburgh, can no longer ignore it.

Watching Greta last night, it occurred to me that it might not be necessary for The Obama’s ballot box stuffing project be successful.
It might be sufficient for it to appear that vote fraud might be possible.
This calls into question the validity of the vote outcome Nov 4th. It might not be necessary to actually achieve vote fraud if all that is required is that The Obama can discredit the process, by destroying trust between election officials and the voters.
On Greta, last night, there were reports of harassing phone calls going to the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State, and harassing and threatening calls going to the amateur journalists who were attempting to report on the issue.
This certainly appears to be the kind of project that a community trouble maker would use to create the chaos that would present an exploitable opportunity. Think of it as a covert PsyWar operation to destabilize the target country.

I don’t have a link on this, but I’ve read somewhere that ACORN canvassers are paid on a per-registration basis. Crime pays. Buying the election by having the same people register and vote over and over in the names of their dead aunt and uncle, cats and dogs, comic-book characters and the Dallas Cowboys.
Why spend oodles of money on campaigns and TV ads trying to convince voters of the wisdom of your candidate’s policy proposals, when you can buy fraudulent votes for minimum wage? More bang for the buck, and laws be d@mned. Just like AmeriKKKa.
Steve Z on October 10, 2008 at 10:10 AM
IF you register to vote, you are expected to perform jury duty. I was called and I asked about compliance. Officers of the court told me about 85% comply in my county, but in BIG CITY County next door more like 28%. Three days in the pokey would stop this madness.

In my car this morning, listening to the radio, the local news channel reported that there were over 300 people in my county who voted by mail in the recent primary (it was on Sept. 2nd), and then came to the polls on election day and cast a second vote. Primary turnout was low, but more than 300 people were caught voting twice — in just one county.
Anybody who thinks voter fraud is not rampant in this country, or that it’s not going to be going on in huge numbers in the presidential election, is kidding themselves.

Steve – they do get paid per registration. They also tend to hire felons, addicts and other folks that put money above the law. Registering voters for ACORN was the last job my felon, meth-dealing older brother had before he ended up back in jail for being a felon in posession of a weapon.
Even if the management never told the “foot soldiers” to do anything wrong, they certainly created the climate for forgery by hiring desperate people and offering them more money for more registrations. Furthermore, it doesn’t look like anyone in management had problems paying for a Donald Duck registration when they came in.

This would probably not(if at all) happen in Australia. Australia is a parliamentary system where once the Prime Minister calls the election voters have only 3 days to register to vote. Once the electoral rolls are closed that is final. And there are extra identity checks as well – proof of ID – drivers licence, proof of address etc.
I’m surprised the US isn’t this careful.

Sort of off-topic but not really. Go to
http://rtwp.blogspot.com/2007/05/george-soros-media-matters-richard-poe_09.html
Scroll about halfway down, to the Appendix, Horowitz’ arguments that Media Matters did not refute or contest. Starting with Argument #5, the arguments show MEGA connections between Soros and the Cloward-Piven Plan and how communiy activism such as ACORN fits in the grand scheme.
This is a MUST-READ.
A while back I was reading the Chinese plan for all-out warfare, including economic. What struck me was how badly they hate George Soros and “what he did to them”. I didn’t understand the background. Reading the above article gave me an eye-full of where Soros comes from, what he’s done so far, and what he’s working on – and it has EVERYTHING to do with Cloward-Piven.
Soros is exactly the kind of guy Yuri Bezmenov was talking about when he said: “This was my instruction. Try to get into large circulation, established, conservative media. Rich, filthy rich movie makers. Intellectuals. So-called “academic circles”. Cynical, eccentric people who can look into your eyes with angelic expression and tell you a lie. This are the most recruitable people, people who lack moral principles, who are either too greedy or too, suffer from self-importance. They feel that they matter a lot. This is all the people who KGB wanted very much to recruit.”
A further aside:
From the “Was Obama a Member of The New Party?” thread :
More from Davidson, who feels that Barack is slipping away from him on the war:
To be fair, I read a recent speech he gave to laid-off workers from a plant closing out in Galesburg, IL, around globalization, corporate responsibility, the safety net, the third wave, and so on. It was very good. Save for not mentioning the war, I probably couldn’t written a better one myself.
Anyone know what the “third wave” is? It would save me a trip to wiki.
BTW, the endorsement from KD is from his Marxism Message newsletter, and goes back to January 2007.

Yesterday Ken Blackwell said that ACORN had such an impact on the Carter/Ford election in OH that if things had been run correctly Ford probably actually won OH. He said if you follow this line of corruption by ACORN, it is more than likely Ford won the election. Imagine how different things would be if Carter had never been elected.
In one sense this sort of, and I mean sort of, gives me a better feeling towards my fellow Americans. If most Americans are that far gone in the head then why is there a need for ACORN? Perhaps ACORN is like an insurance policy in case the American public wises up. Based on what I know, and have seen of ACORN, they have more in common with Nazism than the MSM is willing to give them. ACORN is all about squashing the individual, and for the most part singularly focuses in on African-Americans. They intimidate our citizens, and promote race and class warfare in the minds of the people they come in contact with, and plant seeds of sheer hatred.
This whole ACORN fiasco sums up Obama totally. Lying, cheating, slight of hand and criminally liable are words that pretty much sum it up. During the primaries with Hillary he began his racially charged campaign, and he began a division in America that for all intense and purposes resembles the days of the 1950′s-70′s when our nation was in turmoil over race relations. Obama is solely responsible for causing a new racial divide in this country. Win or lose, I wonder how long it will take for us to no longer look at each other with suspicion and lack of trust or even fear. Some of you may say this is ridiculous, and way off the mark. I will remind you of the video of those young African-Americans chanting for Obama, and then I will tell you African-Americans have personally communicated to me the divisions are definitely there and highly volatile. Then I would point to the comment section of Ben Smith’s article yesterday at Politico about how Obama thought Ayers was reformed. There is a lot of hatred out there for anyone that supports McCain/Palin. A lot!
It is really very sad and disturbing to see ACORN run rampant for so long and not one Republican President took it upon himself to shut this down. No, instead we put border agents in jail. But beyond this is the fact that we are a nation in crisis no matter what your race. We have young people in jails at alarming numbers, a rise of STDs in young people, high school drop out rates are horrendous, and gang activities are disturbing. We have economic issues and wars to be won and all this racially charged language from the Obama campaign and Obama himself on divides AMERICANS from finding solutions together, and keeping our nation strong, together. We have fought together for this nation and died together for this nation and I pray to God that we can survive this election together because if not, our nation will surely die.

moxie_neanderthal on October 10, 2008 at 5:06 PM
I suspect you mean sytematic rather that systemic. Systemic would be more that the system has a problem that prevents people from properly registering. Systematic means that in an organized or deliberate fashion someone or some group is attempting to alter (Could I say rig?) the voter registration base for their own purposes.
This is akin to last year’s shamnesty bill. One of our major objects was that the illegal immigrants would be “processed” in an unrealistic time frame. Those of us with common sense knew that the bill’s stated time frame would invite government bureaucrats to “shortcut” the vetting process and likely lead to “rubber stamping” of many who would not ordinarily be allowed legal entry into the country.
