Video: Michelle on Cavuto

posted at 7:46 pm on October 9, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

The Boss has been fighting against the entire series of bailout proposals, and she covered the history of it with Neil Cavuto on Fox this afternoon. She and Cavuto appear to share the same analysis of Washington, which is that people there appear to be shifting with the wind rather than come up with any real strategy:

I can’t really add anything to what Michelle says here, except to criticize the Fox editorial decision in leaving more than two-thirds of the screen to the board that hadn’t changed in over an hour, and squeezing her into the margin. Maybe no one could believe that the numbers were that bad, and they needed to keep looking at it to be sure.

rmgraha on October 9, 2008 at 7:49 PM

Yup, We would probably be at less than 6,000 without it or the measures taken by the Fed.

Cardiganfox on October 9, 2008 at 7:51 PM

Doesn’t matter much now. We’re well on our way to the full nationalization of our banking industry.

Then currency stabilization. Then unification.

Good times.

spmat on October 9, 2008 at 7:54 PM

The economic rescue bill was signed into law just a few days ago. It’s going to take a little while for it to take effect. I get really annoyed with people like Neil Cavuto and Michelle Malkin who go around screaming “Socialism! Socialism!”. If nothing was done, then the entire world economy would collapse. What would Neil and Michelle say then?

The stock market is returning to normal, reasonable levels, just as the housing market is.

If it were not happening all at once, and the media was unable to make this the focus of 24/7 news reporting, there would be no talk of depression.

Markets are stabilizing. We’ve been getting along on lots of borrowed money, and now it’s time to tighten our belts and go back to being responsible. That’s the way America has normally been.

Yes. In the case of the GSE’s, AIG and WaMu the alternative would have been worse. There is still going to be a storm that will take down some U.S. corporations that have weak balance sheets.

Hopefully, municipalities don’t go bankrupt but that is a real possibility.

$300 billion for the “victims” of the big, bad banks?
Suck it up!

Now we all have to eat the crap sandwich, all us poor schmucks who bought homes within our means, waited to make sure we had a downpayment, and paid our mortgage.

Meanwhile, some a$$clown that bought a $300K home with a $79K income on an interest only loan. I saw this story on CNN, about the poor woman who now has to pay $3,300 because her loan terms changed at the end of the “promotional” rate.
Suck it up! You made a bad decision. Too Bad for YOU!

But now, it is too bad for those that play by the rules and believe in personal responsibility.

Meanwhile, the economy goes down in flames and those of us that are saving money have sh*t interest rates on our savings accounts because of these dirtbags.

I’m pissed.

You know what we need? Another bailout. Only let’s make it less definitive. Let’s leave the amount open ended. Let’s leave the scope open ended. That way, we’re sure to cover all the bases. Thank goodness for government!

There is a systemic problem that is going to hurt most taxpayers whether the government does something or does nothing. Right now Treasury and Congress are doing a lot in the hopes that they can minimize the disruption to the overall economy, and to individual taxpayers. There is no guarantee that they know what they are doing or that they won’t make matters worse.

If you want a good interest rate, you can “loan” the bank money–in some cases they’ll pay you 15% (on a preferred stock). There’s no guarantee you’ll get your principal back.

If something works, it doesn’t need taxpayer cash to keep afloat. Why is the only answer to every crisis always soak the taxpayers? What congress is doing with our $850,000,000,000 or more is exactly like the idiot who rev’s his car engine when it makes a funny noise…..when you floor the gas, the noise goes away, so it must be fine, right?

Any of you listening to Glenn Beck’s coverage of this crisis? So far, Glenn has told us in advance what is actually happening today. Down right scary times lie ahead.

Michelle is awesome, bright, and the target of Liberals around the world. Michelle can’t be debated; can’t be beat by any Liberal man or woman; therefore, all these gutless scumbags can do is try to defeat her by way of destroying her credibility.

I absolutely HATE the Liberal media! They lie, cheat, produce phony documents, fabricate stories, use Hollywood technology to shape the news… The one thing they can’t do and therefore refuse to do is debate openly and honestly and allow the people to decide. Just look at how Hasselback gets treated on the view; doesn’t matter which Liberals show up on that show, none of them can debate with her. No, they talk over her and won’t allow her to get her point across. Rude, chicken-shit, classless… Take your pick.

On another hot subject, this little clip is the hard facts behind Obama and ACORN, and needs to be discussed openly and honestly amongst all Americans. We must put country first, and party somewhere down the ladder of importance.

It is reasonable to ask whether ACORN is in fact a criminal conspiracy to subvert the voting rights of Americans. Which makes it all the more remarkable that Barack Obama paid ACORN $800,000 to register new voters, and then lied about it, falsely telling the Federal Elections Commission that the $800,000 went to a group called Citizen Services Inc. for “advance work.”

Obama must be made to explain his dishonesty, and be made to explain in detail his relationship with ACORN. This is the job of potus we are talking about here!

ConMom on October 9, 2008 at 8:16 PM

Holy Cow, check out this nugget I just stumbled across.

Patrick Fitzgerald is heading RICO investigation of ACORN and BHO campaign.

Tonight we talked to someone who works in the federal courts here in Chicago.

The buzz in those corridors is that federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has been leading a team of FBI investigators in 10 states working on a RICO case.

Today, it was announced that ACORN is being investigated in 10 states.

That’s one Hell of a coincidence.

We asked why Fitzgerald would be involved in this, because he’s the prosecutor on the Tony Rezko case and we aren’t aware of ACORN being investigated in Illinois.

We were told that ACORN was investigated in Illinois years ago, and it was a Fitzgerald case then. This means ACORN’s activities today, involving a conspiracy to commit multi-state voter fraud on SoetorObama’s behalf, are an extension of that previous ACORN case.

Our source in federal courts said, “Any crime that involves more than two people and is carried out across state lines qualifies as a corrupt organization. The fact that those “Goodwill” donations were made in Texas and received at Obama headquarters in Chicago or Washington means it qualifies for RICO.”

The “Goodwill donations” referred to above are the $228 million in undocumented, unverified campaign contributions the SoetorObama camp has received — which the McCain campaigned filed a complaint to the FEC on this past Monday.

We’ve also heard that the Clinton campaign filed complaints to the FBI and other federal agencies over SoetorObama’s fraud in the Iowa, Texas and other caucuses: voter intimidation, registration fraud, and other illegal activities.

The last thing we were told tonight in regards to all of this was that “the meme here is a tying together of all these various threads. That’s what you will see in the last weeks of the campaign: all things being tied together”.

If everything rumored here is true, it looks like David Axelrod, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, SoetorObama himself, and possibly even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were all involved, together, in massive RICO violations, and thus federal fraud, if the DNC and party leadership knew what the SoetorObama campaign and ACORN were up to and allowed it to proceed. Knowledge of federal crimes being committed makes all parties accessories to those crimes — and part of the conspiracy to defraud the public.

And now the talk is to nationalize the banks. Why?? The bailout isn’t working so the government has to do more to try to stop the problem they caused!
They know they are to blame so they have got to prevent people from fixing it themselves! If they can stop this,, then they can take credit for fixing their mess, while acquiring more power. They’re out of control!
How long before they nationalize the supermarkets and the hospitals and everything else!

So, I have a question.
The first SIX years of the Bush Administration, the economy was very good, even with 9/11, two wars, and he warded off a recession. He also gave tax cuts.
During this time, the Republicans were in charge in congress.

Then, in 2006, the democrats take over.
Now, the economy is in the toilet.
The democrats blame the Bush Administration.
We all know that people like Dodd, Frank, and other democrats are to blame for the f/f debacle.

If the last two years of the Bush Adminstration have gone into the toilet and the DEMOCRATS are in charge of the purse strings…..
Wouldn’t it stand to reason that the Democrats need to stop blaming Bush. He is not perfect, but he got us through some tough times.

Will you assure us, that as president, you will take immediate action to investigate, prosecute, and names the names of the people actually responsible [crowd goes crazy].

McCain: I will. And it is already a matter of record, that members, Democrat members of Congress, fought against reform, and it’s a matter of record in hearings that they said in hearings that everything was fine. Senator Obama said a year ago that these kinds of sub-prime loans were quote fine with him. And the fact is, that the same people that are now claiming credit for this rescue are the same ones that were willing co-conspirators in causing the problem that it is [crowd goes crazy]. You are absolutely correct to point out the fact that since Democrats took over both houses of Congress, all hell had broke lose for the citizens of America. These sick ass scumbags want Americans to suffer so that they can blame our suffering on Republicans by way of using every tool in the playbook and driving it home until we’re all so confused that we are no longer looking behind the correct window for the blame. The market didn’t do particularly well while the short ban was in effect. Shorts are part of an efficient market. In the case of Lehman the short sellers were pointing to problems with their balance sheet a year or more before they fell. Individual investors can do well reading about the short positions in stocks they might buy.

The Federal Government taking over banks should scare the crap out of you. A large part of this mess was caused by political decisions replacing business decisions at Freddie and Fanny. If you think running the banking industry based on political decisions instead of business decisions is going to pull us out of the banking crisis you are delusional.

What comes next, banks giving out business loans to people that wouldn’t normally qualify, because owning your own business is the path to success in America? Handing out credit cards to people that normally wouldn’t qualify, because having a credit card makes shopping more convenient? This is the reasoning that caused Freddie and Fannie to collapse.

There is no way that the government being directly involved in running banks is a good idea.

For sure. Government is the problem, not the solution.

Bravo Michelle.

“Suck it up, I don’t think the government should be in the business of enshrining the principle that credit is a civil right, that home ownership is a civil right and that foreclosure mitigation, prevention and loan modification should be government moral imperatives.”

This is not a slippery slope we are on it’s an ice covered mountain that we are sliding down that will lead us to Socialism.

I said before I’ll say it again, NO BAILOUT!!!

Bogeyfre on October 9, 2008 at 9:52 PM

It’s weird that Michelle is a probably a pretty true conservative, yet none of the bloggers on this site are.

How do you square that?

lorien1973 on October 9, 2008 at 8:03 P

Been asking myself that lately my friend. I really believe we need to start looking at where this party is going in the next few years beyond this election. Obviously there are bright spots out there in the midst of the not so great choices we had this political season but the need to inform the general public about the foundations of conservative thought. Otherwise we’re gonna get misguided into allowing another John McCain to run. All that cross the aisle bull has really helped John lately hasn’t it? All those celebrities who always talked wonderfully about him, their “favorite” Republican, really couldn’t give a crap now do they? The man’s a hero but he isn’t the conservative leader we need in such a time as this.

The two idiots who have been wrong for the past 4 years about the economy (treasury secretary and fed chairman) are still in charge and will drive this country into the ground. Until we clean out the progressives in the GOP we will never have a republic that functions correctly and will never have an economy that will be strong again. Letting the stock market do what it needs to do (it’s screwed by 403b big-time) is the only thing that will bring this economy around. We can’t bail anything out. It has to sink before it can come back again. Houses were overpriced, stocks were overpriced, bonuses were insane and people got greedy, thanks to the democrats enablement and the GOP’s
acquiescence to try to “get along” with the Dems. McCain has no idea what to do and is no conservative, so we can’t expect anything from him even if he becomes POTUS.

From what I understand, yes. She wrote about it on her site sometime back in response to email. No apology was forthcoming from GR, so resignation from the show. Seems to me that GR won both the battle and the war that way, but to thine own self be true.

Spirit of 1776 on October 9, 2008 at 10:17 PM

McCain would be winning big if he had voted no on the bailout.

This is true… The old school GOP country club blue dogs have influenced the Republican Party into the state we currently sit in. Truth of this was apparent when one of our one actually let the cat out of the bag by stating “we must put the Reagan years behind us, and move forward, the times have changed” or something to that extent. This was proof that this idiot (and many more like him) know nothing about Conservatism, as Conservatism is a way of life that will work in all times, all conditions… The GOP tried to shove Conservatives into a closet, silence us while telling us to get over ourselves. This cost them both houses of Congress, and possible the WH. Idiots, all of them!

Now we have a choice between a pure Socialist Liberal, and John McCain (what ever his political ideology is). Democrats have brought ruin to our economy on purpose in order to win the WH, as a bad economy has historically worked really well for Democrats. McCain/Palin get (3) votes from my household, as we have no other option.

Damn!

Keemo on October 9, 2008 at 10:27 PM

McCain takes his word seriously, and he gave that crowd his word.

Keemo on October 9, 2008 at 8:18 PM

You’re joking, right? Backdoor John? Pass the amnesty bill in the dead of night John? Pass it without hearings John? His own party has an intellectual disagreement with him over the issue, and he calls them bigots, like any trashmouth liberal demagogue would. That’s honorable behavior to you? Are you kidding me? Are you paid to write cr*p like this?
I think I need a better word than ‘cheerleader’ to describe what you’re exhibiting here. What do you call the guy who grabs his ankles in the prison shower before anyone drops the soap?
John McCain may have been an honorable man in the military, but his career in the Senate is typical wheeler dealer, screw the voter hack. You want to vote for him, fine. But save the soundbite ‘man of his word’ gobble goo for someone with a barf bag handy.

Michelle was incredibly subdued in this interview. Troubling. I guess her mood underscores the dire state of affairs.

sheesh on October 9, 2008 at 10:43 PM

Well. Countrywide/Bank of America has announced a settlement with some 12 states. They were being prosecuted because of the bait and switch tactics that they used on mortgages. Just like what I experienced. Many people (including me) TRIED to do the right thing and get a fixed mortgage only to be messed over by these companies and got forced into an adjustable rate at closing.

I was just one of many thousands, if not millions, of people that got shafted this way. I am NOT asking for a bailout. I am just asking that the government makes them give the the fixed rate mortgaged that we asked for and didn’t get because of dishonest business practices.

These companies did this on purpose to force you to refinance every few years. They were depending on the value of your home rising to make the new mortgage work. They were trying to create a market for their services in the future and they didn’t care if they ripped you off. They just wanted to keep getting money for writing your mortgage over and over again.

wise_man on October 9, 2008 at 11:39 PM

Look it was these suck it up nitwits that prevent the government from bailing out people when the issue was first pointed out. If the gov would have simply redid the interest rates on mortages and outlawed ARM’s and forced the banks to rewrite those interest rates no of this would be happening. the taxpayers would not have been on the hook. It would have only impacted banks future profits.

But noooooo. The suck it up crowd and the let them eat cake crowd and the let the free market handle it crowd would have none of it. Fine take your $2 trillion dollar bill because of your principles.

Capitalism has good as well as bad things to it. Voters don’t like bad things. Therefore anytime capitalism shows its bad side the government becomes socialist.

It is just the way of the world. We could have had a little bit of socialism last year. Now we have the country nationalizing entire industries.

You make the call who was right. hint the suck it up crowd was not.

Why didn’t banks re-finance the risky loans in the first place on their own? Is it because they were packaged together and sold off?

Sorry for asking a simple question, I read a lot, but have gaps in my knowledge.

Spirit of 1776 on October 10, 2008 at 12:03 AM

How is Malkin qualified to speak to economic and financial issues? Not sure why Cavuto would have her as a guest on this issue.
