Obama TV: The One buys half an hour of airtime on CBS for Oct. 29

posted at 4:37 pm on October 9, 2008 by Allahpundit

And deals with NBC and Fox(!) are in the works. I’m surprised they didn’t simply give him the time and call it “news.” What’s a liberal media good for if not for the occasional freebie?

Today the Dish Network, tomorrow the world:

NBC is said to be very near a deal. With Fox, the matter is likely to remain uncertain as the time period could conflict with Game 6 of the World Series…

The direct purchase of such a large block of national airtime right before an election used to be more commonplace before campaigns began to focus their end game strategies exclusively on battleground states. Such a move is not without precedent in modern presidential politics, however — Ross Perot did a similar purchase in 1992.

The One has a lawyerly fondness for “closing argument” ads so expect something in that vein, likely bookended by schmaltzy long-form campaign spots. He must be raking it in if he can afford a buy like this, so if you want to equalize, you know what to do. Exit question: What, no ABC?

I’m going to guess Frank Keating isn’t going to be a guest on the BarryO program:

Now, the words of McCain ally FRANK KEATING, former Oklahoma governor and Special Agent for the FBI, on MSNBC today:

[About Bill Ayers] It does suggest character and judgment. When I was an FBI agent, we were HOT after Bill Ayers. This is an unrepentant terrorist who said in 2001 they didn’t blow up enough.

Remember Barack Obama is a “set piece” [FRONT-MAN?] here — not as a radical and as a terrorist, but as a member of the Illinois state senate.

In 2000, he voted against the entirety of the state budget because it had too much money for corrections. Voted against capital punishment. Voted against people being able to defend their families in their own homes by the use of a firearm. Voted for needle exchanges. Voted against making it a felony for a gang member to go back to gang activity while on probation. These are reckless, extreme, anti-law enforcement leftist positions that I think the American public needs to know about because it shows a lot about somebody’s value system and character.

I’d love to see video of that, even if it is MSNBC

As I said in the last thread:

The buy will push comedy “The New Adventures of Old Christine” to 8:30 p.m. and pre-empt “Gary Unmarried.”

Hey… don’t ever say Obama didn’t do anything good for you.

In related news:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/1008/Boehner_escalates_war_on_ACORN.html

All federal funding to ACORN must be stopped. The ACORN slush fund must be disbanded. Sources of federal funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development or any other agency must be stopped. Contracting for services between candidates for federal office and ACORN, as Senator Obama has done, must end. Now that the taxpayers own Fannie Mae, any funding from Fannie Mae’s nonprofit foundation to ACORN must stop.

“ACORN spent decades promoting the housing policies that brought America’s economy to the brink, and similarly over the years has committed fraud on our system of elections, making American voters question the fairness and accuracy of the exercise of their most fundamental right under the Constitution. Now it is time to cut off ACORN before it grows even more destructive.”

If I wish to make it softer, I will tune it to a whisper. I will control the horizontal. I will control the vertical. I can roll the image, make it flutter. I can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the 30 minutes, sit quietly and I will control all that you see and hear. I repeat, there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to… The Obama Unlimited.

McCain needs to communicate that he’s the guy who will lead us on the road to taking our country back. Just because Obama’s cool doesn’t mean we should run off the cliff with him.

Are we going to entrust our economy and our presidency to a guy who blew $161 million on Chicago schools with nothing to show for it?

Obama was the first candidate in how many years to refuse gvoernment money for campaigning? I think it was about 30 years or so. And the result is that I am so sick of Obama. Sick of his face, his voice, his arrogant preening narcissistic smug little smile. Sick of his groupies, sick of the butt kissing from the media. It is like Obama has been there forever and ever.

And now we get a half hour. I am wondering if all this will end up just running people off. I hope he loses for a lot of reasons, but one of them is the amount of money Obama has raised and spent on this campaign. I think it is a bad precedent, and it will be worse if he wins.

We will never see the end of campaigning. They will just move right on to the next one and start raising money for it. America for sale.
