Harry Reid: Linking Obama to Franklin Raines is racist

posted at 3:15 pm on October 9, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | regular view

We’ve been down this road before, haven’t we? Except last time, the race-baiting was being done by some random columnist and this time it’s … the Senate majority leader. Note how exquisitely casually it’s done, too. So commonplace is this sort of rhetoric among Democrats that it’s apt to bubble up even in the course of otherwise cheerful conversation.

His claim that there’s no connection between Obama and Raines except their skin color? A lie, of course. Click the image to listen.

Your fearless Senate Leader, freaking criminal…

Black people are so well off these days they now hire white guys to do their racial complaining. What a country! How do you get into that line of work?

Now that everything is racist we can stop worrying that the accusation means anything.

Of course it is. If showing Obama in the same commercial as Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton is racist, surely this is.

Welcome to our new reality.

Everytime a liberal throws out the race card, they should be called the racist for injecting this. Instead the interviewer backed up and went on defense…learn to attack when this is made, call them a racist. Reid is the one that pulled that out of thin air, he is the one who knew which was black and which was white, he obviously has the “race score card” and should have been attacked for that.

How about Obama and the rest of the Dems running interference for the looting of FannieMae/FreddieMacm, which Obama stood aside for.

Yeah, sure. It is only because the two have a similar skin shade….moron

philnewkirk on October 9, 2008 at 3:26 PM

Or, and I’m just throwing out ideas here, the fact that the Washington Post reported:

In the four years since he stepped down as Fannie Mae’s chief executive under the shadow of a $6.3 billion accounting scandal, Franklin D. Raines has been quietly constructing a new life for himself. He has shaved eight points off his golf handicap, taken a corner office in Steve Case’s D.C. conglomeration of finance, entertainment and health-care companies and more recently, taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.

And:

Two members of Mr. Obama’s political circle, James A. Johnson and Franklin D. Raines, are former chief executives of Fannie Mae.

But, yeah, it’s they’re skin color. That’s the ticket.

McCain has these final weeks thoughts lined up. He just needs to hammer them all home.

lorien1973 on October 9, 2008 at 3:38 PM

People will continue to throw out the race card (regardless of whether they are legitimately using it or not) until it stops working.

I think we are mostly in agreement that they’ve used it so often in regards to so many random things that it has no meaning anymore….BUT, people keep reacting. It still immediately puts people on the defensive.

We’ve got to learn to not let the term distract us before they’ll stop using it as a weapon. As it sits right now, they could say, “Look at you. You’re wearing a pink shirt. You’re a racist.” and most of us will start arguing about how we aren’t racist.

All Harry Reid has done today is effectively changed the discussion from whether or not there is a connection between Raines and Obama to whether or not we’re racists.

Is THIS racist, Senator???

The next question came from a black McCain supporter, who reminded McCain of the candidate’s plea at the convention for his supporters to do everything possible to ensure a victory. The supporter said: “I doubt that anyone has taken, pardon me, the ass-whoopin’ I have taken for doing that.” He then implored McCain to go after Barack Obama at the next debate and asked him to raise ACORN and Reverend Wright. “I am begging you, sir,” he said, as the crowd stood and applauded.

Robert Byrd could not be reached for comment. He is still in mourning on the Senate floor giving Teddy’s eulogy.

An unnamed source says the Senator took a handkerchef out of his pocket to blow his nose and found it was leaky b/c he mistakenly lined up the eye slits on his handkerchef to blow his nose. When he unfolded it, he gave a small chuckle and was quoted as saying,”Huh, We sure have alot of confessing to do about our pasts dont we old buddy?”

This is what I’ve been saying. This is exactly how Obama will rule as a de-facto dictator. You critisize and/or oppose, you are a racist. The MSM will be all too happy to paint the opposition with a broad brush. And what they don’t shut up, the Fairness Doctrine will take care of. Free speech in name only.

I only hope that people WAKE THE BLEEP UP!!!

crazy_legs on October 9, 2008 at 3:43 PM

Thanks for giving me another reason to loathe you, Harry.

The really funny one they’re pushing this week is that Palin’s use of “hockey moms” and “Joe six-pack” is racist. I saw a clip yesterday of some dimbulb from the Congressional Black Caucus yammering about how most (or maybe she said many) people couldn’t relate to those terms; therefore, Palin was racist for using them.

I hope they keep pushing on this theme. Now that we are seeing professional sports players introducing Governor Palin at rallies, maybe the campaign could get Kevin Weekes to introduce her. He could be holding a six-pack.

From The New York Times, No Less(!)

NYT (December 18, 2004)

The directors of Fannie Mae, the big mortgage finance company, will meet Sunday to consider the fate of two senior executives who signed off on financial statements that violated accounting rules, people close to the company said Friday.

The two (Fannie Mae) executives, Franklin D. Raines, the chairman and chief executive, and J. Timothy Howard, the chief financial officer, certified financial statements that the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday ordered to be restated because of significant violations in accounting rules over their treatment of derivatives and prepaid loans.

Fannie Mae said in November that a restatement would force it to recognize $9 billion in losses over the last three and a half years, wiping out more than a third of its profits over that period. Regulators could also force the company to raise its capital levels by billions of dollars, either by selling some of the mortgages it holds in its portfolio or through a securities offering.

Q. Isn’t this the same Franklin Raines who was/is Obama’s financial adviser for the campaign? Didn’t this dude walk away with ab’t $100 million when he left Fannie MAe?

Slowing immigration–legal and illegal–slows that ‘arrival date’, as does any increased birthrate among Whites

Meanwhile, how does a member of a 1/8 minority get this close to the Presidency in a ‘racist’ nation? And how does a wimpy little turd like Reid get to be Senate Majority Leader in any nation?

…aside from being one of the most slimy people to ever wriggle his way into the leadership of national politics since Herman Goering became minister without portfolio in the dying Weimar government, Harry Reid is fiddling along with his collectivist party.

Awash in white guilt, any criticism of a black man is racist…any holding of any black man to account is racist…any finding of fault with any black man is racist…and, ironically, even noticing that a black man is black is racist….

…unless, as a “progressive”, you are noticing his blackness in order to deliver another load of undeserved goodies…after all, doesn’t the Constitution lead off with “promote the national defence and provide the general welfare”?

We’ve gone in this country from “you’re automatically guilty because you’re black” to “you’re automatically innocent because you’re black”, and I frankly don’t see the difference between the two. Neither bespeaks justice, as defined by a person getting what he or she deserves…not as a people, but as a person.

…but the Democrats, being collectivist totalitarians, don’t see things in individualist terms. They prefer the “nation as a beehive” model…where all bees are equal…and expert bees make the rules….

Puritan1648 on October 9, 2008 at 3:52 PM

PS to our trolls: You can put down your thesauruses and pop psychology books and take off your tinfoil hats… you won’t be needing them. McCain does not need to use nuanced allusions to race to expose Obama’s true character. There is plenty of footage available of Obama’s good friend and spiritual mentor, Reverend Wright, if he chooses to use it. Any sane person — of any color — would have walked out of that guy’s church years ago. Instead, Obama has the guy baptize his kids.

Y-not on October 9, 2008 at 3:52 PM
