Worst Political Analogy of the Day

One might think that with his fellow “community organizers” coming under another investigation for voter fraud, Barack Obama might avoid the mention of ACORN. Yet here he is in Indiana, butchering an aphorism in an attempt to pay homage to one of the most prominent political families in the state:
I want to say thank you to Senator Evan Bayh, one of the best United States Senators that we have. And since you know that, uh, an acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree, you know that part of the reason he’s such a great Senator is because he came, uh, from a great political family, and Senator Birch Bayh is here, the legendary Senator who is back in Indiana…
Well, usually one says, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” but who knows? Maybe ACORN is on his mind today. Maybe it should be on everyone’s minds today.

Well, next week when McCain is running adds against Acorn, I’m positive that soundbite will not be used.
99.999% positive.

I recall an aphorism that “an acorn must fall far enough from the tree to grow into its own strength”.
Perhaps that is where Bama is confused.
On the other hand, the Bama nut has not fallen far from ACORN in character, intent, ideals or morals.
So maybe Freud was right about Bama…
Harry Schell on October 8, 2008 at 5:54 PM
Isn’t the acorn analogy about blind hogs?
Sue on October 8, 2008 at 5:54 PM
So who is going to make the ACORN commercial, then showing Obama’s own words (from here) saying “The acorn doesnt fall far from the tree.” before linking him with ACORN.
AverageJoe on October 8, 2008 at 5:55 PM
lol, this would make a great ad. “Obama lawyered for ACORN” *ACORN voter fraud list of crimes* and then this quote

lorien1973 on October 8, 2008 at 5:57 PM
The reason Obama doesn’t ‘know American’ is he isn’t American. It pops out every now and then. His life experiences are decidedly not American which explains a lot of his stupid remarks.

Dittos on the secret communication! Like get busy covering up because there could be more raids!

Fox has a map showing the states with voter fraud investigations on right now — 11 states.
I left Indiana at the end of 2006. I’m glad I did. They are definitely trying to steal Indiana. At least here in California I don’t have expectations that it will go red.
Y-not on October 8, 2008 at 6:00 PM
I’m not sure the two events coincide, but even if they don’t McCain could say they did.
What’ll be Obama’s defense. “I left ACORN before I became an advocate for preditory lending”?

“I’ve been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.” — Barack Obama, Speech to ACORN, November 2007

FTR the 11 states investigating ACORN are Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania , NEvada….
I’m missing 3.
Micheal on October 8, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Great quote.
Don’t forget the $800,000 the Obama campaign gave to ACORN.
The speech was in Indiana.
But, note recent reports that 105% of eligible voters in Indianapolis have now registered. So, if there isn’t an ACORN investigation there right now, there soon will be.

I have a terrible feeling that Obama the Supergenius will run America with the same success that McNamara the Supergenius ran the Vietnam War. With sublime confidence he will apply all the lessons he learned from his narrow experience to the wider world with terrible result. His intelligence will allow him to buffalo his critics and supporters with brilliant, facile, empty arguments that, results be damned, the facts prove him correct once again. We just need to do what Obama says again with greater effort to achieve success! And after a few years, everyone will begin to realize that high-sounding oratory and a salesman’s imperturbable confidence are not enough to lead America anywhere but into the ditch.
We are in for a rough four years.

ACORN fraud being covered on Special Report. 800 fraudulent registrations in Ohio. Same woman registered lots of times, different birth dates, same signature. A 12 year old also registered. In Nevada ACRON registered the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys including TO and Romo.

“From a tiny acorn, a might oak grows.”
Just mixing his metaphors, I guess. It’s a good thing nobody in the media cares about verbal gaffes like that.

If a political acorn falls from a tree and there is no political money to support it would it still grow?

This guy can get away with anything.
I live in Indiana, and during the primary Bayh was a strong supporter of Clinton’s. There were lots of hard feelings.
Terrye on October 8, 2008 at 6:35 PM
This guy confirms every day what I think about him. He is a high-functioning moron. An incompetent who believes in his own competence and is good at getting others to believe in it. People like this do just what Obama has done; they never stay in one job very long because they have to keep moving on before they are discovererd to be incompetent. If they rise to the point where they are actually in charge of anything they screw it up, but they always blame others or say they were “set up to fail.” This is what we are in for in the next four years: a completely incompetent President who will blame racism or George Bush for everything that goes worng.
I’m convinced that he was an affirmative action student, he went to be a community organizer because he couldn’t get a job anywhere else, and Bill Ayers and David Axelrod found him and promoted him.
God help our nation.

How is Obama getting away with not having to comment on his baby, ACORN? Or more importantly, How can American voters feel him worthy of “taking a chance with”? he’s a crook and I am furious that his campaign is dragging out all their black supporters so they can call anyone who questions the ONE, racist??! If caring about my future is racist, so be it. I wasn’t before, but I guess I am now.
