Was Obama a member of the “New Party”?

When I saw this at Ace’s, it sounded so familiar that I spent 20 minutes checking our archives for the post I was sure Ed or Bryan had written about it. I was wrong; it wasn’t HA that blogged it, it was Erick Erickson at Red State in early June. Read his background, then see this post at Politically Drunk for evidence that The One was a member. I can’t tell definitively from either just how far left the NP was at the time; it may be that, like a lot of new third parties, they hadn’t quite hammered out a fixed identity yet. Erickson writes that “The New Party was designed as a loose confederation of unions, socialists, communists, and black activists who shared common values, but often had different goals,” although the party’s Wikipedia page suggests that they weren’t as far left as the Greens, which criticized them for being Democratic Party hangers-on. Doubtless Obama will claim that it was the union aspect that drew him to it or, failing that, that it was a brief youthful flirtation (he was, er, 35 at the time) with a fringier party than he ultimately felt comfortable with. Needless to say, I know I speak for all of us in denouncing this very racist attempt to question him on his party affiliations the way Sarah Palin was questioned on hers. After all, it’s not like any of The One’s other political associations have been worrisomely fringe.
The best part of this, assuming that it trickles up the media food chain and gets put to one of Obama’s spokesmen, will be trying to reconcile the inevitable profession of ignorance about the New Party’s agenda with David Brooks’s assertions about how “socially perceptive” Obama is. Truly, except for Ayers’s terrorist background, Wright’s sermons, Pfleger’s race-baiting, and the NP, his awareness of what’s going on around him is laser sharp.

Hey Spirit of 1776 – what at this point would John McCain have to do to make you not support him, knowing that millions of people will be voting for Barack Obama. I would like to know what thin red line he would cross that would turn you off and not participate in the election, or think that Obama would be better than McCain. Serious question.

There is nothing that Obama can do or say or has done that will knock the Soul Train off the track. All is forgiven, all is ignored. I think Whoopie said it best in the latest View clip about Blacks being able to say and do things that anybody else is not allowed to do. When Blacks do these things, according to Whoopie, it’s different. Even when they are first generation Africans with no guilt geld to spend.

Yep.
Health care is a “right.” Owning a home is a “right.” A certain level of income is a “right.” American citizenship is a “right” (for all foreigners, including criminals and gang-bangers, who cross our borders). Etc., etc.
Why is anyone surprised that Barry Obama — son of a Kenyan communist, apprentice to communist Frank Marshall Davis, friend and acolyte of self-described “radical communist” Bill Ayers, official endorsee of the Communist Party USA, preferred candidate of Communist dictators like Fidel Castro and Kim Jung Il — once belonged to a Socialist party?

Thanks for explaining. I get your point. I merely mean that the race can be dynamically shifted still, as the prominence of the credit crisis did just recently to Obama’s advantage.

Adjust your altimeter and ascend to a higher altitude. You get a much better view of the battlefield from up here – and it’s not nearly as dire as you suspect.
ManlyRash on October 8, 2008 at 5:30 PM
Good question. I didn’t live through Carter, so I’m probably not in the best place to judge; however, I think Obama’s potential is unknown.
He hasn’t really done anything yet. He hasn’t been controversial or taken any stands or done anything that has made a difference. I imagine that if elected he’ll be the exact same as president, not making any waves, but if we’re unfortunate enough to have him twice, then I’ll think we’ll see exactly what an Obama presidency is.

Heard that. Corsi says he has copies of emails between Obama and Odinga, including emails to Obama in the Senate. Obama later, “for security” reasons told Odinga that their communications would be through an Obama staffer.

Obama has hung with terrorists, has a mentor that was a communist, has a father that was a communist, was raised in a mulim school, was a member of the New Party, worshipped at an anti-american racist church. Has tried to ban free sppech, guns. has taken money from our enemies. his plans are socialism at their core prettied up to get main stream approval.

FiveWays on October 8, 2008 at 5:38 PM
Thanks for answering my question by the way.
Jimmy Carter was a govenor. He went through the process of getting elected and governing his state. Obama used a lawyerly tactic to get his democrat rivals kicked off the illinois state ballot so he could run unopposed. He has voted “present” 130 times. Has the most liberal voting record when he does vote. Talks about getting rid of all of our nuclear weapons and went to a church that had a positive story of Hamas in the church bulliten. And since Carter has made some anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian comments decades after he was removed as president, we know a bit about what’s in his mind.
It really is hard to predict the future, but I do think that an Obama administration is would be more left than a Hillary Clinton Administration. One of the democrats I wouldnt lose much sleep over is someone like joe Lieberman. I’d certainly not want to see a president Dennis Kucinnich, or a president Cynthia McKinney. That being said, I don’t think that the US will be a charred cinder when Obama is done with it, but I might guess that Carter (whoI did live through) was bad. Farm more than people recall decades later. And in my opinion, Obama has the potential to be much worse.
Wanted to get other people’s feelings on this.
wise_man on October 8, 2008 at 5:39 PM
A little off topic, but I’m curious on this question as well. Is there a country conservatives would be more comfortable in if the US starts turning to Socialism?

Gee, seems like the United States is pretty much the best. If the gulf war was any indication, Australia supported us. But all it takes is for a new president to be elected to change that. Poland was on our side. As was England. But Enagland’s left is even more loony than ours.

I have said this on another thread, but I believe it needs to be repeated and that is THEY are ALL connected. You name anyone Obama is connected to and there is a definite trail back to Alinsky and other leading radicals that began the Black Liberation Movement, Marxism, etc., etc. They are incestuous. Just because Alinksy was dead by the time Obama came to the States does not mean that he was not connected or is not connected to those that championed Alinksy after his death. I wish someone would bring up the fact that just because Hitler is dead does not mean he does not still have followers or those still practicing Nazism. Hello Imadinnerjacket!
I heard the Corsi interview and I hope he has extra security on the papers and on his own person! I have long desired more attention to Odinga and the blood bath he instigated in Kenya. What Corsi has not pointed out YET but I am sure he eventually will, is that the Kikuyu that were MURDERED where Christians. Odinga sent out death squads to kill Christians. Anyone remember the scene from “The Patriot” where the people were burned alive in the church by the British? FYI, Odinga repeated same thing in Kenya! Burned people alive in churches.

Short of a smoking gun in Obama’s hand, anything and everything at this point is too little, too late.
The majority of the nation has been bedazzled and bamboozled by the pretty shiny wrapping paper enveloping the empty box that is Barack Hussein Obama. The Democrats would think of themselves as the intelligent and progressive of the country, while the rest of us are dumb bitter religion and gun clinging hicks. However, they are the ones who are so thoroughly and easily fooled by the traveling salesman and his wagon full of snake oil. Obama’s synonymous with the secret prize hidden behind door #1. The Democrats and easily tricked fools have no idea what’s behind the door, but the hype and false excitement generated by flim-flam artists has made it too appealing to deny.
Batten down the hatches.

I think what we are seeing is a re emergence of the radical socialist agenda the Baby boomers tried and failed to get implemented during the 60’s. Only this time they are attempting change things from within the system in a very stealthy manner and with a thin veneer of populism as promulgated by their poster child BHO and aided and abetted by a MSM that is essentially managed and edited by people who were themselves involved in the radical movements of the 60’s.
The reality is that the Baby boomers now find themselves in the position to affect real change and they intend to try and recast America into the socialist paradise they have been dreaming of since their left wing indoctrination and radicalisation during the 1960’s

From another New Zeal blog post:
More, from Davidson’s mouth to God’s ears:
I’m from Chicago, too, and known Obama from the time he came to the New Party to get our endorsement for his first race ever. I’ve been in his home, and as an IL legislator, he’s helped or community technology movement a number of times. He said all the right things to the ACORN and New Party folks, and we endorsed him, but I noticed too, that he seemed to measure every answer to questions put to him several tmes before coming out with it.
So, he’s been to his home. Aren’t Ayers and Davidson friends? Off to check. Meanwhile, he’s a perceptive fella, isn’t he? Ha Ha.
