Video: Palin on Ayers, Obama, and the vice presidency

A considerable improvement from the Couric interview, thanks to the lack of gotchas and to what must be mounting confidence after she came through the debate okay. Part of the fascination with her at this point comes from what InstaGlenn hits on here. She clearly is having fun out there, in spite of the nastiness towards her, in spite of the economic freakout, in spite of Maverick’s downturn in the polls, in spite of having been tasked with being the bad guy in bringing out the brass knuckles against The One. Is she resolutely optimistic? Expecting defeat but putting on a brave face? Just enjoying the attention and the rush of campaigning? What’s the frequency, Kenneth? The base sees Reaganesque sunniness, David Brooks sees someone too studiously ignorant to care what’s going on around her. I don’t know what we’re going to talk about all day if McCain loses and she has to go back to Alaska.
Below the interview, a quick shot from her recent drop-in in Nebraska. Whatever happens, she should be on the RNC fundraising circuit forever.

Shannon Ogden (the interviewer) is our local politics guy here is Jacksonville. He is pretty good, I hope that he will get picked up by a noational outlet, he is very fair and a VERY nice man in person.

Of course you don’t! :) You are dependent on our enthusiasm and foresight, not yours. Note the sheer numerical magnitude of Fred posts and now Palin posts you’ve got from the enthusiasm of the readers. That’s not from your preferences. Personally, I’m curious what is going to make up the deficit in poll posts after the debate, heh.

If McCain loses, conversations will go like this: “Hello, comrade! My vodka ration is used up. I’ll give you $500 useless dollars for your liter. By the way, how long is the breadline today? We’ll have to watch the only channel on TV to see what Comrade Olbermann has to report about the next five year plan.”

If you’re going to use the word “neocon”, I’d like you to define it.
That word gets slung around far too often by morons on both sides that don’t know what it means.
And no sir, I don’t want the wikipedia answer. See to it that you do not give me a regurgitated definition, or I will surely expose you for an asshat.

Ugh folks, we’re going to have to narrate the Ayer’s stuff as much more than a “matter of judgement”… a lot of people have made that misjudgement… it makes batting away the issue extremely easy… he was a member of a socialist party then which he’s lied about… he’s repeatly lied about the relationship… the education reforms they tried to achieve did didly… the reforms they tried to impose were ideological in nature(fight that)… pivot off of the “intellectuals in times of crisis” conference he attended after 9/11 into making fun of how he called McCain erratic in Crisis… Obama endorsed Ayer’s book…
We’ve got to do deeper… quit playing the low-info voter game Team McCain FFS.. it’s lame and it makes attacks easy to bat away… it’s best to drip…drip…drip new info that contrasts with narratives built by the media and Obama that allows pivoting over to more substantitive issues…

I checked our grassy friend’s old HA posts. I think it’s some kind of computer program compiling random posts with a limited database of words. Most of the posts were variants of the same theme, just switching out the subject (Rush, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity). I would think it was Olby but I don’t think he has the tech skills.

Bishop and upinak, guessing I’m signficantly more conservative than you two clowns. Most right thinking conservatives are more than embarrassed that this idiot is the VP nominee of the Republican party. You two asshats likely have no earthly idea what it means to be a conservative. The cult-like hero worship of Palin by the likes of you guys is just about as bad as the fawning devotion to Obama by some of his supporters. Two sides of the same damn coin. …one of the party approved points of view, I don’t doubt…scribblers and collectivist ideologues….
…repeated here…she’s somehow stupid because, until five weeks ago or so she was rarely on any sort of TV, and she’s still a bit raw when confronted by the slick, the ruthless and those niggardly with the truth…
…I once heard Dennis Miller comment on Jim Stockdale’s unease in a debate, stating that this good man committed the ultimate crime in our celebrity culture: he was bad on TV. Mr. Miller was bitter about Mr. Stockdale’s treatment, and I heard that Mr. Stockdale’s son cautioned Gov. Palin in print that she shouldn’t be taken in by those who deride her performance….
…then, again, there’s:
…a bit closer to the mark.
The Lefty fascists have seen their ruin in Gov. Palin from the start. She’s one of the folks who’s somehow gotten into the limelight…without their consent.
The insiders — those so fired up about her “qualifications” — already consider the electorate ignorant and unworthy of notice (except every four years, when they prostitute themselves in public), so their like opinion of her I present that as evidence that she’s one of the folks.
If these statist morons didn’t try so hard, so regularly to interpose themselves between the public and prosperity, nobody’d care what they think or what they do. I heard it said recently that, prior to the New Deal, in the absence of a war the general electorate’s only contact with the federal government was when they went to the Post Office.
…oh, for those days again….
Puritan1648 on October 8, 2008 at 5:06 PM
Let’s face it–in Alaska she was the bad “guy” with the brass knuckles against the sitting Governor in her own party! She’s good at that!
Besides, she knows she has a great future ahead of her, even if the McCain/Palin loses. She’ll go back to Alaska, either get re-elected Governor or run for Congress in 2010, be a major draw on talk shows and GOP fundraisers, and after Obama takes us down the path of Carter II, she’ll come roaring back in 2012 as more experienced and media-savvy GOP leader at the ripe old age of 48, with a resounding “I told you so!” She’s got nothing to lose, everything to gain, and she knows it!

…the term is, as in the Ed Koch bit posted above (I always loved Koch, that self-promoting little hamster), rather like “the Bush doctrine”…can anybody, even Mr. Bush, define it…it’s been so hijacked by so many half-informed but fully-ideologically-enslaved folks that it means little besides “guys we don’t like”…or, on the Left, “guys who aren’t like us”….
…it’s sort of like “social-Darwinist” used as a label by the Left to describe people who didn’t buy into their statist party line…or, as Annie Coulter observes, like “racist”, taken to mean “anyone who wins an argument with a liberal”….
Did so-called “neo-cons” ever actually use it to describe themselves? Dave Horowitz was a raging lefty, and now is sort of a “con”…does that make him a “neo-con”? Or is he just a wacko?
Beware of labels…be especially wary of who’s using ‘em, and who they’re hung on…”fascist” is a label which’s pretty freely thrown around, so much so that it has no real meaning anymore in current, non-scholarly (and most scholarly) conversation….
Gov. Palin, in the meantime, looks pretty solidly conservative (lower-case “c”), meaning not eager leave the tried and true for the merely popular or apparently (and hopefully) salutary….
…but then, as a hunter, it’s the tried and proven which brings home the deer….

*PREEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!*
…harrumph…move along…nothing to see here…harrumph….
…right back at ya…then again, I’ve come to expect quality on this blog not only from the moderators but from the regulars…even some of the trolls write well…or copy from well written talking points leaflets….
…it’s not me, though…it’s just that I’ve been very lucky to have developed a respect for the language and, while I haven’t actually acquired any common sense myself, I have been blessed with having met and lived and served with folks who’ve had it in spades…so I’ve been spoiled by having had excellent examples….
*UNSOLICITED ADVICE FOLLOWS, WITH APOLOGIES FOR EXTENDING DISCUSSION OF THIS SELF-CELEBRATORY SUBJECT*
First, have a parent, mentor or friend whose eye for the ridiculous and disdain for the pompous is apparent and practiced. They might not get around to teaching you wrong from right, but they’ll teach you silly from sensible.
Second, (and schools nowadays DON’T teach this) acquire an admiration for a well-turned phrase. Read old books. Before about 1930, people considered themselves as being judged by their self-expression, and were careful about impressions. Even Mark Twain, talking down in his made-up vernacular, showed care in brevity (something I’ve never learned) and was always clear. The English language has twice the vocabulary of any other language…it was Churchill’s strength…it’s a sign of time spent thinking….
Third, learn to appreciate smart-asses. Read Dennis Miller. Read P. J. O’Rourke. Devour Ted Nugent. Mark Steyn is great. Watch anything written by Richard Curtis. Watch anything with Rowan Atkinson in it.
Fourth, keep an eye on folks who think that they’re smart. They usually aren’t, and are an inexhaustible source of material.
Fifth, know what you believe, why you believe it, and don’t ever expect anyone to agree with you. Don’t sell your point of view…simply state it. Agreement is gravy.
Sixth and finally, find an outlet where you can have your say, and don’t expect anyone to read it. Write for yourself.
* THE PRECEEDING WAS A TRIBUTE TO THE MANY PEOPLE WHO TRIED TO TEACH ME ABOUT THE WORLD AND GENERALLY FAILED…THAT I LEARNED ANYTHING IS A TRIBUTE TO THEIR TENACITY OR THEIR FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE WHEN TIME WAS BEING WASTED. *

Brooks is so ignorant, insulated, effeminate. Is he gay? I figured he was.
I’ve been studying Sarah for roughly 8 months now.
Believe me, she is very conscious of the vicious attacks, but just like the way she rose in Alaska, she rufuses to let it get her down. This is a strong woman who was brought up by a very loving but very tough father. Any other woman would of snapped easily by now. It was one of several reasons why I believed she may be a national figure: the toughness and optimism.
She is completely OPPOSITE of AllahPundit on the other extreme of optimism, strength as the world attempts to crush her. That’s who she is and why she is popular.
Nothing gets her down for long. She’s back up fiesty as before.
This campaign is nothing but Sarah’s “Long March”. It will toughen her like steel at the forge. The libs are creating a juggernaut and they don’t know it yet.

Congress is the problem. Period.
If Congress implemented strict, enforcable regulation then Wall Street could run wild within those defined parameters.
Instead the Congress is bought and paid for by those they regulate.
A brick wall needs to be thrown up between corporate America and those that set the rules.
Lifetime bans from lobbying in exchange for the privlege of serving the public should be the standard.

*swoon*
The one shining light in this otherwise dismal campaign.
Lord, look kindly upon our brother, John.
He is a good man, yet he is imperfect, as we all are.
Yet, he somehow found the courage to bring us Sarah.
Somehow, no matter how improbable it may seem to be today, things will turn out ok.

Pffft – spiders are nothing in Texas.
Snakes – different story. An occaisional scorpion.
Plus the weather is so much better (no offense, upinak, I personally HATE cold weather – that’s why I prefer the Southwest).

When I used the word neoconservative, I was referring to anyone who believes that the US has a duty to engage in nation building by overthrowing undemocratic, oppressive regimes with military force and trying to establish new, democratic governments in place of those regimes. Neoconservatives (in the way I was using the term) don’t necessarily need to subscribe to traditional conservative values such as limited government, traditional mores, free market capitalism, etc. Basically, anyone who takes an idealist approach to foreign policy, as opposed to a realist approach, is a neoconservative. For instance, Joe Lieberman and Charles Krauthammer are probably neoconservative, but Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul are not.
This may not be the most erudite definition of the word neoconservative, but I’m not a political scholar anyway. If any of you think I’m using the word incorrectly, tell me what you think it really means.
By the way, why do people here at Hotair dislike Ron Paul so much, other than the fact that he wants to pull out of Iraq?

My problem with many neoconservatives is that they don’t really care so much about conservative values. All they want to do is to engage in nation-building. For instance, I don’t think George Bush has done much for the conservative movement. The Republican Party has alienated the libertarians and the Ron Paul conservatives, many of whom are voting for Obama because of the Iraq War. If the Republican Party wants to win elections in the future, it needs to win back these defectors by espousing a more modest foreign policy.
