Video: Couric goofs on Palin

Assuming Maverick isn’t able to pull the rabbit from his hat and that we are, in fact, going down in flames, it’s a comfort to know we’ll at least have the Palin-versus-the-press sideshow to entertain us this last long, cold, alcohol-infused month. Will she drop by SNL for a cameo opposite Fey? Will she prolong Brian Williams’s agony by continuing to cold-sholder NBC? Will she hold the press conference Andrew Sullivan’s been pining for so that we can finally find out whose uterus Trig Palin was carried in? Each day brings new hope. The more antagonism there is between her and The One’s media apologists, the more it adds to her stature among the base and the better the chances are of her remaining a national figure/fodder for media criticism. Everyone wins!
I need to redeem this dopey clip with substantive content, so read Althouse’s critique of Dana Milbank’s highly nuanced gloss on guilt by association in this morning’s WaPo. For a former regular on “Countdown,” he’s suddenly very sensitive indeed to rhetoric linking one’s political opponents to terrorists.
Update: This won’t hurt her standing with the base either.

who is Katie Couric???
SDarchitect on October 7, 2008 at 12:28 PM
Hey Kathie Couric. You are a pimple. Sarah Palin will always have the last laugh.
Ah, bless her heart.
carbon_footprint on October 7, 2008 at 12:28 PM
Is this the third most watched (out of 3) news anchor?
How many watch Katie, say versus the debate?
originalpechanga on October 7, 2008 at 12:29 PM
That little twit Couric isn’t fit to carry water for Sarah.
rplat on October 7, 2008 at 12:31 PM
What you’re trying to say is that beta male bloggers are the ones who win the most when conservative alpha females run for office of the president.
I’m glad we got that all cleared up now.
Mcguyver on October 7, 2008 at 12:32 PM
I used to like your sarcasm…
Sultry Beauty on October 7, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Would it be acceptable for a washed up female comedian to suggest that Couric should be raped by black men in Harlem?
Nah… I suppose saying that would be tasteless and racist, right?
Damiano on October 7, 2008 at 12:33 PM
TMZ doing the job that real “journalists” won’t do….
d1carter on October 7, 2008 at 12:34 PM
How many watch Katie, say versus the inside of their eye lids?
Farmer62 on October 7, 2008 at 12:34 PM
Doesn’t she work on one of those ‘networks’ that people used to watch?
DCJeff on October 7, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Hey Katie, if you want to improve your ratings JSTFU! Occasionally I clicked over to CBS for a glipse of Couric Cleavage, not anymore. Maybe you can get a slot ove at The Naked News…..
dmann on October 7, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Well how long does an aging Couric have behind the desk?
Theworldisnotenough on October 7, 2008 at 12:38 PM
“Luckily, I’m not running for vice president” – Katie Couric, 2008
“I’m not running for president.” – Andy Hiller, 1999
Katie was just going with a classic journalistic cop-out.
Slublog on October 7, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Mainstream media. Huh. Reminds me of mainstream churches, United Methodist, The Episcopal Church, ELCA/Lutheran, Presbyterian USA: losing the interest of its audience and losing influence to the real thing.
So the word mainstream carries with it a sort of a premonition, if you know what I mean.
Akzed on October 7, 2008 at 12:38 PM
walking and talking colonoscopy she is.
In short an Ass.
Kini on October 7, 2008 at 12:39 PM
She’s rather perky, considering that the only broadcast of any kind that she beats out is Air America.
AubieJon on October 7, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Anyone remember when Janet Reno showed up on SNL when Wil Farrell was doing one of his skits dressed as her. Classic.
To be sure, McCain goes nowhere with a strategy of Ayers only. Ayers has to be part of an “all of the above” strategy.
But taking things one step further, Thomas Sowell has an article at NRO today in which he emphasizes the distinction between associations and alliances. Obama’s supporters are whining about guilt by association (even though ever one of us employs it with our friends, parents, siblings, children, coworkers, and employees), but Obama was an ally of people such as Ayer, Wright, Pfleger, Rezko, and the like. They are in his DNA.

Here in southwest Florida, a guy named Scott is running for sheriff. The press asked him about Palin and his reply was basically that “Barack Hussein Obama will be terrible for the country”. Of course, the reporter jumped all over the “Hussein”. His response was “What? That is his middle name and he is a Harvard lawyer… if there is something wrong with it, I’m sure he knows how to change it.”
Great…. I think he just got elected here.

Bwahahahahaha, when TMZ points out you are in the tank for Obama you know things are bad.
Buford on October 7, 2008 at 12:44 PM
Couric: “Thankfully I’m not running for Vice President.”
CBS: Thankfully we aren’t relying on the ratings for the CBS Evening News…
Outlander on October 7, 2008 at 12:45 PM
Hey Katie! When was the last time YOU interviewed the President of Afghanistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan?
For Sarah Palin, it was about three weeks ago!
Steve Z on October 7, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Yeah – luckily. Thank God for that.
tru2tx on October 7, 2008 at 12:47 PM
McCain/Anyone ‘08
indythinker on October 7, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Hmmmmmm. Fossils.
Dan Collins on October 7, 2008 at 12:51 PM
And what, pray tell, is ‘the real thing’? Before I wax poetic about your arrogance (always denied), I’d like you to respond.
ThackerAgency on October 7, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Katie Couric is so yesterday’s Today Show.
pilamaye on October 7, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Alcohol-infused? Maybe that’s your problem, AP. Try to cut down. It’s a depressant, after all.
Jim Treacher on October 7, 2008 at 12:53 PM
CBS. An acronym and a descriptor for the network.
john1schn on October 7, 2008 at 12:53 PM
I would think Couric would focus more on polishing her resume because CBS isn’t going to keep this money drain around for ever.
Blake on October 7, 2008 at 12:53 PM
It will never cease to amaze me how all of these Leftist vermin mock a woman who is, or should be, the epitome of the “liberated woman” that they allegedly wanted to embrace.
Good job, Mouse [Couric]. Great job, Fey. You not only made yourselves out to look like damned fools – but damned hypocrites and liars, too.
Great work … gals.
OhEssYouCowboys on October 7, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Lets see now.
Katie Couric – half-wit, cutsie TV NEWSREADER
Sarah Palin – GOVERNOR of the State of Alaska
I think I see the problem here.
johnsteele on October 7, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Katie Couric. The latest in a long line of mistakes made by CBS.
john1schn on October 7, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Shocka.
Who would have thought that Katie Koran would take potshots at Sarah Palin? I thought she was a fair and objective journalist.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 7, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Katie Katie Katie – don’t overlook the whiny Brian Williams of NBC crying Sarah Palin won’t talk with him. The anchor, who after her through-the-roof introductory speech at the RNC immediately after had no comment on her speech, the reaction, or what he had just seen. Brian Williams simply pulled up a sheet of paper in front of him (an Obama press release) and read every word of it without looking up. “Back to you, Chris.”
Marcus on October 7, 2008 at 1:14 PM
Ooooh the Economist. I’m so impressed.
Who helps you with the hard words?
TexasDan on October 7, 2008 at 1:14 PM
Ah yes, the anchor of the show that came in after reruns of Mama’s Family.
Bite me, Katie. What a witch.
Dubn8tr on October 7, 2008 at 1:16 PM
Ha you know Katie is the bell of the ball after her interview. I bet she’s got a million Palin one liners at the ready for the cocktail parties.
Dash on October 7, 2008 at 1:19 PM
katie c has ratings higher than air america…interesting…I have not watched/listened to either…no plans to do so…
areseaoh on October 7, 2008 at 1:19 PM
What a waste of my time. Why is crap like this on Hot Air?
apoole on October 7, 2008 at 1:24 PM
she is just bitter because the President of Pakistan would not get a woody over her tired old bod!
SDarchitect on October 7, 2008 at 1:25 PM
It’s pretty obvious what Akzed means by the real thing. Mainstream Christianity is anything but Christ-like and is hemmoraging members as a result. Mainstream denominations have morphed from institutions that celebrate the grace of God into political platforms for activists with a leftist agenda. When a church calls for boycotting Taco Bell and Burger King they cease to be “the real thing.”
The evangelical churches (those that view the Bible as God’s infallible message to mankind) is where the growth is these days. In part because many Christians, myself included, have decided to leave the legitimazation of homosexual relationships, the social justice campaigns, and the other blasphemies of mainstream religion.
highhopes on October 7, 2008 at 1:28 PM
Boy, Katie’s ass is getting big…
Wyznowski on October 7, 2008 at 1:28 PM
“When a church calls for boycotting Taco Bell and Burger King”
who is so stupid as to do that?!

They just can’t hide it, they just can’t come to grips that an outsider is getting all that attention.
right2bright on October 7, 2008 at 1:32 PM
Gwen Ifill, Katie Couric – openly mocking Sarah Palin. Keep talking, ladies. Show America exactly who you are.
capitalist piglet on October 7, 2008 at 1:35 PM
Do people care about what newspapers and magazines Katie Couric reads?
pb5000 on October 7, 2008 at 1:44 PM
Swelling often associated with cranial insertion.
fogw on October 7, 2008 at 1:49 PM
This constant refrain to Andrew Sullivan and his doubts in regards to Trig Palin is becoming more and more disgusting. Care to explain why you always have an urge to talk about this at least twice a week?
No one reads or gives a rat’s ass about Andrew Sullivan why are you so obsessed about him?
Jdripper on October 7, 2008 at 1:53 PM
Katie’s obviously not the smartest move CBS ever made, but look at it this way . . . The sleek jet their news department once was has been more like an antique bi-plane getting ready to smack nose first into the turf for years. She seems to be the pilot they’ve chosen for the final crash, and she’s proving better at achieving that than anyone could have guessed.
That’s it, folks, in a nutshell, and CBS knows it. To get better, first you have to hit bottom, clear out the ancient deadwood, then build from there up.
Soon, news fans . . . Not soon enough, but soon.
52Ranger on October 7, 2008 at 2:03 PM
Can’t wait for a WHAT’S THE FREQUENCY, KATIE? moment.
Western_Civ on October 7, 2008 at 2:09 PM
Katie, whatever you do DON’T READ THE TV RATINGS!
marklmail on October 7, 2008 at 3:38 PM
How professional and classy.
/do I need a sarc tag for that?

you can put lip stick on Katie Couric and she is still a pig
Denniscat on October 7, 2008 at 8:38 PM
I think her brain was damaged when she had the colorectal exam on tv a few years, obviously due to the fact her head is in her arse.
Tim Zank on October 7, 2008 at 8:55 PM
I have read no newspapers and very few magazines since I got online in 1995. I have watched no TV since I dumped cable in 2003. I seldom listen to the radio. I do spend hours each day staying informed.
Also, most executives do not read newspapers. They have assistants to gather together those stories on those topics the executive has expressed interest in and deliver them in a file.
