SNL Explains the bailout…

Rumor is that NBC will restore the skit after “editing.” Seismic Activity has been reported in Chilmark, Massachusetts near John Belushi’s grave. Experts say it could be caused by a rapidly spinning object….

From the LA Times:

“But a comparison of the two versions shows that actually a little more than that was cut. What also was excised was any mention of the involvement of Massachusetts’ Rep. Frank in the Sandler subprime mess.

Frank is the influential chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and an ardent political protector of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which participated in the subprime problem.

In the original skit Sandler addresses Frank, saying, “And thank you Congressman Frank as well as many Republicans for helping block Congressional oversight of our corrupt activities.”

To which Frank replies enthusiastically, “Not at all!”

Well, I prolly wouldn’t have known about it if not for them ‘pulling’ it, so yes.. it kinda worked well as a publicity stunt.

Then again, not yanking their videos from youtube would also help with publicity.

Hulu not being some sort of region-coded POS would also help with publicity too.

I hear Pelosi threatened suit. She was offended by the plastic looking mask on the actress protraying her. NBC’s response was, “What she expect? Its almost halloween afterall, but we will make some minor changes and it will be back online soon”.

The Emmys (and TV/Hollywood in general) love to be self-congratulatory. TV shows and movies about making TV shows and movies are loved by insiders, regardless of how pedantic and boring they may be for people who aren’t in the entertainment industry.

I can think of several emmy-nominated shows about people making shows right off the top of my head (Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras, Unscripted, The Larry Sanders Show, and that’s just HBO).

Since when does “Emmy” equal ratings? I was barely aware that Tina Fey even had her own show outside of SNL, and I never watched it. I hear that it blows.

The skit’s back up on NBC’s site. It looks like the only edits that were made was the chyron under the “Sandlers” (which results in a bizarre laugh from the audience who saw the original chyron in the studio) and a line that Mrs. Sandler says about meeting with Pelosi later and giving her a kiss on the cheek. The Soros stuff is still there, and most of the rest of the skit is still intact.

Much ado about nothing. If they were pulling it to cover Obama, they would never have allowed it on SNL in the first place. They needed to make the changes. That said, it’s a terrible sketch, and makes Bush look like a complete idiot, but at least it puts the blame exactly where it should be: On Nan, Barney, and their minions in the MSM.

Exit question: Isn’t this actually amazingly fortuitous “controversial” publicity to stoke interest in the sketch before it’s re-released?

Exit Answer: Absolutely, positively not. If they did, then they have maximized the broadcast of a lefty humor sketch which tells all their lefty fans that the Democrats own the mortgage related economic fiasco. This would be the first time any of their little lefty viewers ever heard anything like that. Maybe they're counting on the viewers just not understanding it? Good bet.
