Where’d the SNL bailout skit go? Update: Legal threat?

posted at 9:50 pm on October 6, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

The Unfocused wonders, as do several e-mailers. The other videos on the SNL clip page are working fine but as of 9:25 this one’s suddenly unavailable. No dice at Hulu either, which is odd since I posted their embed of the skit yesterday morning.

Anyone experienced this before with SNL vids? I can’t believe it’s anything more sinister than a glitch, notwithstanding the fact that it’s NBC and that it’s no secret where Lorne and company’s political sympathies lie. If they were worried about shining a light on the Dems’ role in the Fannie/Freddie mess, they wouldn’t have done the sketch or put it online to begin with, no? Or did they not realize until today that McCain was planning to go after The One on this subject, leaving them scrambling to yank it before the news cycle made it go viral? Intrigue!

Like I say, probably a glitch. E-mail us if you see it come back online; the Barney Frank impression alone makes it worth a repost.

Update: The intrigue deepens: The thumbnail for the bailout skit was still visible on the SNL clip page when I started writing this post. Now? Vanished. The link to the clip now redirects to the master clip page.

Update: The boss floats a provocative theory.

I dislike Hulu because they won’t let their streams be viewed outside the U.S.

Well, I dislike Hulu for a number of other reasons, but that’s up there at the top of my list.

….another reason why I don’t trust/count on video-sharing sites. Here’s the video. – MsUnderestimated on October 6, 2008 at 10:44 PM

Many thanks, Msunderestimated. I have loaded the video on YouTube.

Send this link to everyone you know to generate hits.

I suggest that anyone who has a YouTube account download it from Msunderstood’s link and then post it. Change the title of the movie file to something that will not get it flagged. The YouTube title should also be something official-sounding and newsy. DO NOT use the word skit, or SNL or anything that can identify it through keywords or it will get flagged and taken down. Use what I have done as a model.

Good luck. As always, if you or any of the IMF team should be captured or killed, HotAir.com will disavow any knowledge of your activities.

——-CAMPAIGN SUGGESTION———

McCain/Palin have got to find a clever way to make more of this “in the tank” media behavior.

The best thing they could do is to get the various media outlets feeding on each other.

If during every stump speech (not just once, but every freekin stump speech) stirred up a chant of NBC! NBC! NBC! NBC!, it would be too tempting for the ABC, CBS, and CNN to avoid. At the least it may win a much needed new cycle.

Just a thought.

As a very wise man named Francis E. Dek, esq. once said “The Frankenstein Earphone Radio & Eyesight TV are tools used by the worldwide communist gangster computer God, in order to turn us all into parroting puppets.”

In addition he was one of the very first men to discover that evil doctors come into our rooms late at night and program our brains to do what the worldwide communist gangster computer Gods want us to do, by suspending access to our moon-brains, our real brains.

But seriously, good point. These are scary times we’re living in.

Hulu is a joint venture of NBC Universal and News Corp, with funding by Providence Equity Partners, which made a USD$100 million equity investment and holds a 10% stake.

I think that explains everything.

Tom Blogical on October 7, 2008 at 12:00 AM

I think the ‘Update’ has more to it than theory….

That sounds exactly feasible…And until I read the thing, I was unaware that these people actually existed.

Nice way to call attention to the fact that you got rich by being a sleazy pair of assholes…Really nice where you choose to spend you hard earned money too….

Here’s to hoping the SEC or the Justice Department crawls up their sorry asses with a microscope.

BigWyo on October 7, 2008 at 12:01 AM

Update: The boss floats a provocative theory.

SNL would be smart to then make a skit making fun of a lawsuit, if one was pending. More people, including SNL themselves, would hopefully become slowly aware of leftist tactics.

And then Palin would be smart to play along with SNL and ’support their cause’ in the name of free speech.

You are probably right that the “people who should be shot” tag went legally too far though all evidence shows that it is an accurate depiction of the Sandlers.

What is curious to me is that this little satire actually included real-life characters with that level of specificity in the first place. I don’t understand why the writers did that. They could have easily come up with the same greedy couple that benefited without naming real greedy people.

Dream on. Look at the way GWB was portrayed in that same sketch.

I peg Hammond as apolitical. He’s never taken any real position on politics one way or the other in his performances. He just does his job which is fine because most actors are idiots when it comes to political discussion.

My respect is reserved for actors who hold political opinons that they can back up with intelligent discussion. It’s a far smaller list.

The REAL problem here is that unless you knew the Sandlers (and I did), you’d think that what this skit said was true. The mortgage company was very conservative in its lending practices, and for all the money people talk about the Sandlers giving to ACORN, they didn’t’ really do a large amount of business with them. They didn’t do sub prime mortgages, and to this day, the portfolio of loans that their company originated is still profitable for Wachovia. Wachovia’s got problems, but scapegoating the Sandlers for it is just not right.

c3ichief on October 6, 2008 at 10:34 PM

You don’t have to imagine. Watch and listen to this 1985 interview with ex-KGB propaganda director Yuri Bezmenov state plainly that the soviets couldn’t believe how quickly American leftist infiltrated and gained control of every aspect of American culture.

Then follow that up with American Thinker’s piece that lays out the plans of a pair of radical socialist Columbia University professors, Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven and their connection to Obama.

Cloward and Piven were inspired by radical organizer [and Hillary Clinton mentor] Saul Alinsky. The piece is called Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis.

This is where we’re headed, folks.

Anybody got some time for the cause? Chris Shay’s remarks during the panel portion of today’s subcomitte hearing chaired by Waxman (the same hearing in which Dick Fuld appeared) needs to be pulled of CSPAN and put on YouTube for the world to see. He hammered the Committee for ignoring FM/FM and their central role in the meltdown. Hammered Congress for taking FM/FM money. He went through a whole list of Republican attempts to bring them under control and were all blocked by the Dems. He had Waxman on the ropes. Can some good solider go get it and spread it? If anybody is willing to take up the challenge please post in response otherwise I will try to carve out time to do it tomorrow….

A few years ago Tom Cruise was interviewed by Matt Lauer on the Today Show. In the interview they were discussing psychiatry and scientology. Tom Crusie said that psychiatry was a “psuedo science”. When he said it he mispronounced the word “psuedo” and said “swaydoe” like play-doh. I turned to the person I was with and we both laughed our ass off when he said it.

A few weeks ago something reminded me of the interview and I went to NBCs website to find the clip just to get a laugh. I found it and watched it. Tom Cruise pronounced “pseudo” perfectly in the clip. I went to you tube and all the clips have him pronouncing it correctly also.

I called my friend just to see if I was going nuts and he confirmed that we both heard him mispronounce the word. I would love to find an original VHS or rip of that interview.

I wouldn’t doubt for a second that NBC would send this skit down the memory hole. (and if you have an original copy of that Cruise interview please let me know)

equanimous on October 7, 2008 at 7:10 AM

Emailed NBC to comment on missing video.

Surprised to find that the video clip from SNL featuring “Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, Barney Frank, et al.” missing. I wanted to show it to friends. Hope it’s only a “technical” problem not the result of brow-beating, legal threats, or other pressure from liberal fronts.

You had the guts to broadcast that skit, now have the guts to keep it alive.

You can do it here.

I’ve just finished the usual “let’s hit the conservatives hard” hand wringing fest known as Banned Books Week. It’s when libraries all over indulge in much angst over a few incidents when parents object to books. Most of the time, these incidents are resolved fairly quickly with no problems, but the American Library Association still trots them out amid much doom and gloom forecasting that the evil conservatives are thisclose to having public book burnings of all things Harry Potter.

When I mention that Disney still hasn’t released Song of the South, I get blank stares from my confreres and a “but it’s racist”. And when I mention that ABC won’t release The Path to 9/11, all I get is blank stares.
