Where’d the SNL bailout skit go? Update: Legal threat?

posted at 9:50 pm on October 6, 2008 by Allahpundit

The Unfocused wonders, as do several e-mailers. The other videos on the SNL clip page are working fine but as of 9:25 this one’s suddenly unavailable. No dice at Hulu either, which is odd since I posted their embed of the skit yesterday morning.

Anyone experienced this before with SNL vids? I can’t believe it’s anything more sinister than a glitch, notwithstanding the fact that it’s NBC and that it’s no secret where Lorne and company’s political sympathies lie. If they were worried about shining a light on the Dems’ role in the Fannie/Freddie mess, they wouldn’t have done the sketch or put it online to begin with, no? Or did they not realize until today that McCain was planning to go after The One on this subject, leaving them scrambling to yank it before the news cycle made it go viral? Intrigue!

Like I say, probably a glitch. E-mail us if you see it come back online; the Barney Frank impression alone makes it worth a repost.

Update: The intrigue deepens: The thumbnail for the bailout skit was still visible on the SNL clip page when I started writing this post. Now? Vanished. The link to the clip now redirects to the master clip page.

Update: The boss floats a provocative theory.

While we’re at it… There were some posts over at Michelle’s site talking about how Dish Network subscribers woke up this morning to find that their units had mysteriously turned to the Obama channel last night… Did anybody ever follow up on that?

Skywise on October 6, 2008 at 9:53 PM

Can’t let the little people know the truth.

BadgerHawk on October 6, 2008 at 9:54 PM

WTF?

I guess the powers that be recognize that McCain is going to hammer Obama and the dems and they need to send the clip away, far, far away…

Theworldisnotenough on October 6, 2008 at 9:56 PM

Path to 9/11 had 2 nights worth of material. This was only 11-minutes, so when they were threatened with FCC retaliation they figured they should just take the whole thing down.

Editor on October 6, 2008 at 9:56 PM

Dude. I have two questions.

1) How long does it have to be gone without restoration before you are inclined to think it was intentional?

2) Considering all the message control on all aspects of media save talk radio, which is a more realistic view: that polls are exempt from the tampering all other news or fauxnews do, or that polls are the only non-tampered data. Not snark, serious question.

Were people here commenting on that this morning? Obama’s manipulation of the media is becoming Stalinist to a creepy extent.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Henry Waxman said [today] his staff is already reviewing documents provided by Fannie and Freddie and “may hold hearings on the topic in the future.”

Of all people, you, my Dark Master, should be the first to suspect intrigue when to comes to Liberals. Of course it’s gone – down the Memory Hole – never to return. Hopefully, someone Tivo’d the episode and will get it out on the Internet.

ManlyRash on October 6, 2008 at 10:01 PM

Liberals cling to their Marxist memories from the Good ole Days – control all media images!

jgapinoy on October 6, 2008 at 10:03 PM

If memory serves me,

There was an animated skit a few years ago on SNL about the corruption of cable companies and Congress. I think it was after Congress decided to bump up the digital conversion to 09 at the the cable companies request, but it was mainly about them getting rights to air programing for next to nothing. I know McCain was against it, one of the few.

It ran once and was never seen from again.

Anyone remember it…?

Waxman is as much of a criminal as Frank or Dodd. He never met a Republican he didn’t want to indict or a Democrat he and his goon squad of “investigators” has found guilty of any inappropriate activity. The fact that William Jefferson has never seen procedural hearings is proof that Waxman is a partisan shill.

Nothing to see here. Obama loves humor. His Chicago-style intimidation tactics are meant only for those who oppose real change.

Democrats probably threatened to revoke their broadcast license.

Topsecretk9 on October 6, 2008 at 10:07 PM

Well, there is an invention out there that can probably help with this issue.

It’s not in wide use, and only a small percentage of Americans have one, but I think it is called a Tivo (sp?) or sometimes referred to as a DVR.

If anyone from the interwebs happens to have recorded this sketch could you please post it to the youtubes?

Southern Gent-nice pickup from the AP!!!

a nice nugget from the article…
“At the time, Illinois legislators were handing out hundreds of millions of dollars in grants. The money was part of a deal that legislative leaders cut with the governor to approve a major public-works program.

Each legislator could award money to favored groups and projects with basically no oversight. The grants were known as “member initiatives” and were similar to the congressional “earmarks” often criticized in Obama’s presidential campaign against Republican John McCain.”

Heck, he even gave money to McCain in 2008 IN THE GENERAL.

It’s amazing what you can get away with when the media will do anything for your cause.

I’m not a huge Bible reader, but I’ve heard many times that the USA won’t be a major player in the end times.

Speaking of which, CNN just aired a “special investigation” on Anderson Cooper’s program that confirmed all the direct connections between Ayers and Obama. TheBigOldDog on October 6, 2008 at 10:51 PM

Weird glitches on the site. Just clicked on a link there and saw the SNL cast in an funny Obama worship sketch. They were on their knees before a mock up altar from the Denver speech asking for Obama’s blessing over their show and careers, then ended with a prayer that Bill Ayers would accept an invitation for a flag-waving cameo. Finally they lit what they called “candles of change” and consumed small wafers with the Obama Presidential seal on them.

Now that’s gone too. I never saw any of them smiling afterwards and two were crying, so I guess they just cut the “sketch” for lack of humor. Yeah that’s the ticket! ;)
