Video: The obligatory “Olby mocking Palin during NFL games now, too” clip

posted at 12:10 pm on October 6, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart, a video danish to go with your late-morning coffee. Didn’t Edward R. Murrow used to pop into the booth during games in the late 50s to crack snarky political jokes? No?

Remember, the standard defense in letting him anchor primary nights was that he could wall off the bias sufficiently to cover straight news. He can’t even wall it off to cover football.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 6, 2008 at 12:16 PM

Sportscasters, like the ones at ESPN, are notoriously uber-liberal and conform to a monolith when politics are concerned. Most of them are smart enough to keep their politics out of their broadcasts, knowing it can spell the end of their career.

KO’s days are numbered.

Spanglemaker on October 6, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Keith Olbermann. Crapping on my Sunday football again. STFU, Olbermann-why not pay your back taxes, and stop stalking women, mmmmkay?
And Laura Ingraham dated this guy? What was she thinking?

All of you who are stunned at this, put up your hands….
Just as a I thought-none.

I don’t watch Football Night in Americanistan and I won’t watch this video. This guy is a biased ultra liberal and I refuse to give him a nano-second of my time.

Olbermann is a despicable piece of rotten animal dung . . . but he fits in quite nicely at NBC.

Where’s the “He throws a better bomb than Obama’s friend Bill Ayers” line?

marklmail on October 6, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Olberdouche was too busy to use the “That’s not the Adrian Wilson I knew” line?

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 6, 2008 at 12:20 PM

I’m a Steelers fan, so I wasn’t going to miss the game, but I waited until the last minute to tune in and flipped to FNC during halftime. I just can’t stand that crap, especially when it’s injected into something like football coverage.

forest on October 6, 2008 at 12:20 PM

Olbermann is trying to imitate Tina Fey so as to have job security.

Memo to Keith: “Keep your real job”.

Oh….. that’s right, you don’t have a real job….

This is OT, but I just had to laugh out loud. Listining to Rush’s radio show on NYC affiliate WABC AM. They were in commercial and did one of their “MoneyScope.com Updates” where some dude gives a 10 second update on the stock markets, which are in total meltdown once again. so he goes “this Moneyscope dot com update is brought to you by…” and its usually some bank or mortgage lender or some goofy law firm.

But who is sponsoring the market update today….

the NEW YORK STATE FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION !!!!!

No. Seriously. Wouldn’t that be nice if some other announcer decided to say that while sitting next to Oblermann. I’d love to see his totally non-hyprocritical reaction to that comment.

I’ve managed to get through the entire 2007 season and first five weeks of 2008 completely avoiding NBC’s pregame and halftime shows. I watch the games if it’s of interest, but studiously avoid seeing that clown on my television.

Awfully nice of him to crack funny over a guy who has a concussion.

carbon_footprint on October 6, 2008 at 12:36 PM

OT: Do you remember a few months back when Schumer’s loose lips started the panic that sunk IndyMac? Well, last week Harry Reid’s irresponsible comments almost took down both MetLife and The Hartford insurance.

Last week, insurance stocks, notably Hartford and MetLife, were slammed when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said a top insurance company was in dire financial straits. Reid said Wednesday that “one of the individuals in the caucus today talked about a major insurance company – a major insurance company – one with a name that everyone knows that’s on the verge of going bankrupt.”

Today, in order to stave off a panic, The Hartford announced a 2.5 billion dollar buy-in by the German financial services company Allianz.

Having this clown spew his stupidity during sports coverage isn’t just biased, it’s bad business. Not only should Olby be removed from sports coverage, the person who is responsible for him still being there should be fired, too.

Suggested e-mail to NBC Sports:

“Last night Keith Olbermann ridiculed Governor Sarah Palin during your NFL halftime broadcast. Be aware that I am sending a formal complaint to the National Football League about this. You people do not belong in sports broadcasting.”

Nothing will happen unless you say something. And be sure to let the NFL know how you feel as well.

jay12 on October 6, 2008 at 1:13 PM

Fred Willard was the only human actor in the Disney Film Wall-E, Bill Ramey. In that film, when their plan to restore the earth failed, he was seen speaking to the cartoon character on the space ship with all remaining humans to “stay the course” out in space, An obvious reference to the left’s opinion that there was no plan by Bush in Iraq. I’m surprised that they didn’t sneak a “Mission Accomplished” line into that film as well.

wise_man on October 6, 2008 at 1:14 PM

Keith Olbermann seems to have this underlying deep-set problem in his trying to cope with the fact that no one gives a flying flaming rat’s patootie in space what he has to say about virtually anything. The only logical reason why the National Barack Channel (NBC) keeps him on is because he and Jeff Zucker think like mindedly in their hatred towards anything even remotely resembling a conservative point of view. But why drag that POV into a football analysis baffles me.

pilamaye on October 6, 2008 at 1:15 PM

I used to watch the ESPN highlights but I’ll watch nothing as long as that a-hole Olby darkens it.

Watched my Steelers pound the Jags in the first half.

Watched ESPN College Football Wrap-Up at halftime in order to avoid any sightings of a-hole Olby and his sawed off arrogant little partner, Bob Costas.

Then watched the Steelers finish off the kitties.

Wish Olby could get hit like Big Ben gets hit back there, just once.

wise_man on October 6, 2008 at 1:33 PM

As an older Cowboys fan, I can remember when Roger Staubach provided color commentary for the NFC games on CBS, and got into hot water for discussing “the Bomb” with his daughter Amy.

The reference was obviously a dig at Jimmy Carter’s statement during his debate with Reagan that he (Carter) discussed nuclear proliferation with his own daughter, also named Amy. Staubach fully intended the remark to be a slap at Carter – and said so afterwards. However, the comment got Staubach into hot water with the network, which didn’t want to involve politics in sportscasting.

Staubach did not return to CBS the following year. What a pity this rule won’t be applied to Bathtub Boy. But then, Staubach was a Republican.

fwiw, as a regular viewer of Sunday Night Football on NBC, what I do is wait until i see the kickoff teams lined up before tuning in, then I change the channel immediately as soon as I hear that Olby is coming on at halftime or whenever. I simply refuse to give this clod my viewership. NBC’s decision to loop Olby into their Sunday football coverage is grotesque. To me Olby is like Bill Maher: the minute i so much as see their faces on TV, i go outside to do something or change the channel.

WE NEED TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THIS!!!!

HERE IS MY LETTER:
I WANT THAT SICKENING KIETH OLBERMAN OFF YOUR BROADCASTS. HE IS A DIVISIVE, DESPICABLE INDIVIDUAL AND I WILL BOYCOTT EVERY COMPANY WHO ADVERTISES WITH YOU UNTIL HE IS REMOVED.

lisalj on October 6, 2008 at 4:06 PM

BTW, caught a couple of minutes of Max Kellerman on ESPN Radio earlier and he called Sarah Palin mentally retarded. He was using the Matt Damon dinosaurs talking points.

JammieWearingFool on October 6, 2008 at 12:37 PM

Kellerman wants to be a cross between Jim Rome and Howard Cossell. Hearing him do analysis on an HBO boxing event makes you hope Larry Merchant (whom he’s trying to replace) lives forever.

As for Olbermann, at the start of last season, he managed to screw the pooch on his “Worst Person In the NFL Segement” in Week 1 by giving the award to New York Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin, based on claims made by his new broadcast partner Tiki Barber, and he also told a story about Coughlin’s car being stolen that was meant to show how totally clueless the Giants’ coach was.

Only problem was, the stolen car incident didn’t happen to Coughlin, it happened to the coach he replaced, Jim Fassel. so Keith’s fidelity to the truth on “Football Night in America” is as lame as it is on “Countdown”. And of course, once being vilified by Olby as a clueless slave driver (who probably voted for George W. Bush), Coughlin was left with nothing but the humiliation of having to play out the season and win the Super Bowl. So Keith’s character judgment is as good on “Football Night in America” as it is on “Countdown”.

I halt the DVR when Costas, Collingsworth and Olbergoon are on at half-time and start watching Heroes or Terminator: The Sarah (Palin) Connor Chronicles..

Please don’t just bitch about this guys. We need to write/contact the NFL and the companies that advertise with them. There is a time to act and this is it.

Often without a real remedy.
