Surprise: Peggy Noonan not sure who she’s voting for

Fittingly, the news is broken on a show hosted by the second-most fatuous suck-upper on MSNBC. Even if you buy her explanation for the infamous open mic mishap before Palin’s speech (also on MSNBC, coincidentally), this won’t come as a shock to anyone who reads her regularly. She’s a speechwriter and The One gives a good speech, or so I’m assured. That alone was probably enough to earn him a second look.
I do think she’s right, though, that the Ayers attacks aren’t going anywhere unless/until the economy is off the front page, which it won’t be before the election. But then, you already knew that.

Dear Ms. Noonan,
You are cordially invited to join us over here in the Discredited and Disgraced Former Conservative Girls Club.
Sincerely,
Linda Chavez and Kathleen Parker

Does it seem like MSNBC goes out of its way to hire faux or otherwise loony ‘conservatives’? Look at Buchanan. What normal conservative is like that?
BadgerHawk on October 6, 2008 at 7:49 PM
How can seemingly intelligent people even consider Obama as presidential material?
NoamSayin on October 6, 2008 at 7:49 PM
look at the title… THE POLITICS OF DISTRACTION
because, yknow, pointing out the democrats explicit role in this crisis, or point out obama’s judgement vis a vis ayers wright or rezko is “DISTRACTING” us from focusing on what chris matthews thinks helps out his guy, i.e. the bad day on wall street (even though the dow grew 450 points after faling800 oh well!_)

Isn’t it interesting that Peggy is on TV so much lately. She was not on TV this much during past election years.
Anyway, Peggy has as much credibility as Dick Morris.
Elizabetty on October 6, 2008 at 7:50 PM
Who freaking cares who Peggy Noonan votes for? She’s in her proper place now at MSNBC . . . perhaps she and numb nuts Matthews can generate the same “tingle” in their legs.
rplat on October 6, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Obama’s campaign is all hummina hummina hummina about it today, though. So he doesn’t like it, which is good.
Hitting him on 2 fronts is a good idea. If McCain didn’t start up with the FMFM stuff today, then i’d be more worried about him talking about it.
If it’s just part of the bigger scheme, then I’m cool with it.
Let’s all hope that Mccain, on FMFM isn’t a one speech thing, like last time.
lorien1973 on October 6, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Aside:
Why aren’t people talking about the fact that as Obama RAISES in the Polls the DOW is tanking?
There appears to be a direct cause and effect and yet nobody is talking about that.
Elizabetty on October 6, 2008 at 7:52 PM
I have just about had it with Wine and Cheese conservatives. They are not rooted in our issues. They are only rooted in themselves.
Peggy, I hope you like your ride on the bandwagon. Just don’t come back.
hawkdriver on October 6, 2008 at 7:52 PM
She doesn’t want to burn any bridges and make herself available for either administration. Pretty sleazy and gutless if you ask me but I suppose she has to look out for number one.

After Peggy’s open-mike snafu and her bull$hit explanation thereof (which revealed her for the phony she is), I’d say even Toesucker has more credibility than her.

originalpechanga on October 6, 2008 at 7:54 PM
Oh please, leave Peggy alone… she was right in her off the cuff remarks that this Team blows at what they tried to do with Palin… if they were smart they would have adjusted the policy and message t…
Nah, you keep twisting the knife… if you let go you might not get it back… the best way to push a narrative with low-info voters is just to put up two contrasting statements or actions done by a politician… it shouldn’t be the main thing talked about now though…
I would love to see a pivot off of Obama’s conference after 9/11 with Ayer’s(”Intellectuals in Times of Crisis“)… contrast that with Obama’s statements that he never really exchanged ideas with Ayers(ABC debate), contrast it with Obama’s characterization that McCain act erratic in Crisis, contrast it with Obama’s feckleness in trying to prevent the crisis.
You kill about 5 memes with that…

20% – Insane ideologues and cynical manipulators
20% – Poorly educated rank-and-file Democrats/useful idiots
10% – True Idjit voters who only watch the networks and Comedy Central for their news
5% – Paulnuts and various insane “Republicans”
McCain’s task is to make the vital 10% Idjit segment realize that Obama is evil personified. Hence today’s full-out assault.
ManlyRash on October 6, 2008 at 7:55 PM
No surprise at all. She’s not exactly been preaching the virtues of Conservatism for some time now.
I always liked her writing, though. It had a certain flair.
There are still flashes of the old Peggy every now and then, but now she mostly speaks in parables as she gazes at the horizon waiting for Reagan to appear.

Peggy Noonan’s inane babble ruined my breakfast Sunday morning.
Her stance that we must keep things civil & play nice, while the Dems call us everything from racists to warmongers, makes me sick.
Peggy, if you really can’t decide between a war hero who is as bipartisan as any Senator in U.S. history & an ultra-liberal with extremely radical associations, then STOP CALLING YOURSELF A CONSERVATIVE.
Go join the libs and please, begone from this Sunday morning shows who bring you on as a “conservative voice”.
bigred on October 6, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Like that little added touch there Allah. Getting a little annoyed are you? You’ve started to get slightly sadistic. But I’m grateful it displays where I’m going on the bottom of my screen. That way I don’t actually have to read the dumba$$ wise-cracking links.
Sultry Beauty on October 6, 2008 at 7:57 PM
We need to organize. We need a grass roots movement to put the media out of business.
Boycott them all. Nothing. They get not a red cent out of me unless they are a movie like AMerican Carol or Fireproof. I will buy no GE product as long as MSNBC exists. I will not watch their news or their programming. I will replace MS Window (Vista-crap) on my computer with Ubuntu and never buy another MS product. Let them pay the price for their convictions.
Seriously!
hawkdriver on October 6, 2008 at 7:58 PM
Noonan used to be a speechwriter for Ronald Reagan. Too bad she also contracted Alzheimer’s disease, just like the poor old Gipper.
Steve Z on October 6, 2008 at 7:59 PM
Sad when I’m pretty sure who Bill and Hillary Clinton are pulling the lever for, and Peggy Noonan and Kathleen Parker, too. That’s 2 for the liberal, 2 for the conservative….not necessarily in that order.
Marcus on October 6, 2008 at 7:59 PM
Oh please. MSNBC only hires commentators that thy can be assured will side 75% of the time with whichever asswi8e is interviewing them. Peggy Noonan is an old sea hag that is searching for validation in her “later years”. What I find VERY hypocritical is her supposed very strong, Catholic faith could allow her to vote for an infanticide candidate.
anniekc on October 6, 2008 at 7:59 PM
Is anyone all that surprised? Peggy used to be the “pretty one”, and like a couple of other conservative female commenters that come to mind, I think she feels replaced. These women think they’re smarter than Palin is, and it annoys them that conservatives have fallen in love with the governor.
Not a good reason to vote for a guy endorsed by the CPUSA, but I suppose for some people, it’s their whole damned world.
Good riddance, Peggy. Go ahead and do it. Only you will have to live with yourself afterwards.
capitalist piglet on October 6, 2008 at 7:59 PM

Maybe she’s going Huffington…literally…
She sees some angle to get some cash without really having to do anything and whamo!! Instant Progressive!!!!

Surprise: Peggy Noonan is sure that she wants to keep getting a paycheck from a verifiable Obarfo-supporting network.
She is just fine as the quaint but slightly deluded conservative who is ready to hack Republicans, but if she were to stray and criticize the Super Messiah….out the door, lady!

You can see her snobbery when she looks down to try to be poetic in her answers. BLAH. I can’t believe she went to my university.

Peggy Noonan is a slut. When being a conservative gets her what she wants and needs, she is a conservative. But when a girl needs a new style, well that whole principle thing just goes right out the window.

Well, sure the Obamassiah got the enthusiastic endorsement of the Communist Party of the USA. But at least he went to TWO, count ‘em TWO Ivy League universities.
Don’t you know that McCain and Palin never even went to a single ONE?
ZOMG the world might end if they became POTUS and VPOTUS.

Thinking it through! This is what bothers me about this election. We have two candidates who are extremely different and people haven’t made up there minds yet. The polls swing wildly day to day. who are all these people who keep changing their minds? Reminds me of the old Maxx Headroom TV show.

For the Idjits, it is their only souce of information. They don’t even read newspapers, and those who go on the internet do so either to retrieve e-mail, cruise for porn or check into their Facebook accounts. No small wonder that most of them never heard of Wright, Ayers or Rezko.
ManlyRash on October 6, 2008 at 8:07 PM
Noonan went off the rails few years ago. It was sad but, after Ariana Huffington, nothing surprises me anymore.
29Victor on October 6, 2008 at 8:08 PM
Take it easy on Peg… as these folks lose their appeal to the market, they have to go to work for lesser media outlets and they have to protect their contracts. Besides… she doesn’t want to chance getting on Keith’s bad side or, as Abrams demostrated, her days are over.

I think, baring an exceptional talent for mental concentration and logical thinking, that some people obviously have, living and mingling in Manhattan for too long is just plain damaging to your mental health. Peggy is not one of the strong ones unfortunately. She needs to be more like Lucianne, for example. :)

The problem is that she is staged as a conservative for the regular joe and Jane, much like David Brooks. So when she says stupid stuff it gives the air of being balanced when she is on thesee show. I saw her on Meet The press with Brokaw.
So when an actual Conservative talks they are labled extremist.

John McCain said life begins at conception. Barry says it’s OK to let a newborn baby die. According to Benedict XVI, what’s there to think about?
Steve Z on October 6, 2008 at 8:17 PM
Maybe they put something in the water in the MSNBC green room. I really can’t think of a single policy Obama supports that Reagan would. What next, Peggy? Is there a secret affair with Castro LURKING in your past? It would make about as much sense as having a hard time deciding for whom to vote this year. Peggy, Obama is blame-America first SOCIALIST!
But hey, who cares, huh? Peggy just might become the msm’s favorite columnist in the (please God, don’t let it happen) AGE OF OBAMA. How do you spell sellout? P-E-G-G-Y.
nocomme1 on October 6, 2008 at 8:21 PM
Well, that is an inelegant way to put it, but the idea is on target. What else would you call some one that sells their ideology down the river for monetary gain? I’m not saying that’s what’s going on with Noonan, but I wouldn’t rule it out.
Huffington on the other hand…pure Political Whore….
BigWyo on October 6, 2008 at 8:21 PM
She was a speechwriter. I don’t think she is used much or at all anymore, which maybe why she is so bitter. Anyway, I just got over not being overwhelmed by nausea every time I read or hear her name. I just think she’s pathetic.
Blake on October 6, 2008 at 8:23 PM
This issue alone is sufficient cause for a thinking conservative NEVER even considering voting for Obama. How can Peggy be “thinking it through”? she is smarter than that, giving her the benefit of the doubt, perhaps she is trying to appear “objective” to the viewers.
