Scarborough on the AP’s race-baiting: “Is this Daily Kos or the Associated Press?”

posted at 1:25 pm on October 6, 2008 by Allahpundit

Even Mika’s unhappy.

Twenty-four hours later, I wonder if the real aim of the AP piece wasn’t to punish McCain for mentioning Ayers so much as to warn him away from extending the attack to Wright as part of an omnibus “Obama’s soft on radicals” or “Obama’s unpatriotic” argument. If it’s “racist” to criticize The One for gladhanding a white terrorist, imagine how much more “racist” it’ll be to criticize him for attending a black church, “God damn America” or no. Which probably explains why McCain’s staying away from it, even if Palin isn’t. The best anticipatory read on the AP piece was this post from Ace a few months ago on how some political smears are more equal than others. Accusing The One of insufficient patriotism? A grievous political sin, notwithstanding his association with the occasional Weatherman. Accusing Sarah Palin of racism? Standard political hardball, mundane enough to support the casual slander of an analysis even as half-baked as the AP’s. Even the saner members of the Atlantic’s blog squad aren’t immune from this, with Marc Ambinder wondering whether there’s xenophobia afoot in the GOP wanting to make sure Obama’s returned any illegal foreign (and domestic) contributions he’s received. Does it matter that he actually has received illegal contributions, as all campaigns do, and that because he keeps his roll of small donors secret the FEC hasn’t been able to check to see how many? Only a racist conservative would think so. Click the image to watch.

Update: Stone-cold “racism” from Geraghty. “Could you shake hands with William Ayers?”

Which on-air “talent” will be the first to cry on Nov 5 if McCain wins?

Which one will be the first to turn to the camera and call America a bunch of racists?

Which on will be so drunk his or her words almost make sense?

This is 1976 all over again. John McCain is Gerald Ford; Sarah Palin is Ronald Reagan. Obama will be the new Carter, complete with Democrat-controlled Congress.

The only difference is that Reagan refused to compromise his principles and be Ford’s VP candidate. And Obama will be a LOT worse President than Carter was.

logis on October 6, 2008 at 1:41 PM

I’m beginning to suspect that AP is getting the majority of their political talking points straight from D-Kos. Which is why I don’t think the AP even qualifies as being a news service anymore , as much as they do qualify to being a mouthpiece for the Left.

pilamaye on October 6, 2008 at 1:41 PM

Keep up the attacks Palin/McCain. The truth needs to be told and the MSM ain’t about that.

There can be no free elections without a free press.

ronsfi on October 6, 2008 at 1:45 PM

Since the AP spun “The SaraCuda” pointing out that BHO’s white buddy was an unrepentant terrorist as “racism” the AP surely has more ammo that they’re planning to use between now and the election (assume that they will lower their standard).

Any regular reader of NewsBusters knows that this is just another boilerplate liberal article.
If major newsrooms are 80% liberal, as Bernie Goldberg tell us, what other outcome is there…any pretense at being balanced is I think subconsciously undermined by the sheer numbers of liberals on staff.

hippie_chucker on October 6, 2008 at 1:46 PM

I posted this on another thread, but I hope you don’t mind if I cross-post it here since it’s amusingly germane to the never-ending accusations of raaacism from Camp Obama and their tools in the MSM:

Barack Obama:
“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”

Michelle Obama:

She went on to Harvard Law School, graduating in 1988. For the next three years, she worked as an associate at the Chicago law firm Sidley and Austin, where she was assigned to mentor a summer associate named Barack Obama. She has recounted her initial reluctance to date the only other African American in the firm; on the campaign trail earlier this week, she recalled hearing his “strange name” before meeting him and thinking that “any black guy who spent his formative years on an island had to be a little nerdy, a little strange.“

Remember when Olbermann had his special program of the nexus of all things evil with bush or something, when he tried to spoon feed his viewers with conspiracy theories about how Teh evil Boosh raised the terror alert to defeat the valiant democrats who opposed him?

I wish someone would do a quasi-real-quasi-satire video in response that links all the DNC-Soros-MoveOnPAC and code pink with the media such as the Associated Press to pull the strings of the democrats. Now that is a program I’d like to see.

wise_man on October 6, 2008 at 1:49 PM

Nothing to see here. Obama creates reality as he so chooses. He will save us all.

Never mind that he is neck deep in contributions from the very institutions whose misconduct and incompetence are the cause of our current financial crisis. Never mind that he takes advice from the men that ran those institutions into the ground. Never mind that he has a long history of working with radicals and anti-American agitators. Never mind that his campaign has used Chicago-style intimidation and outright thuggery to accomplish its political ends. Never mind that the only discernible decisions he actively made wrt foreign policy (surge, funding, etc.) would have resulted in disaster for our national security and our strategic position in the GWoT had they been followed.

And, most importantly, never mind that Obama has never once in his entire life made a decision as an executive. In any capacity. Ever.

No, Obama will save the world with happy smell peace tulips and teddy bear smiles. I feel healed already.

logis on October 6, 2008 at 1:41 PM

And that Sarah Palin has not finished her first term as Governor, was not running for President at any time before being picked, did not spend some 12+ years beforehand campaigning actively for conservatism (not just conservative causes, but conservatism itself), among other glaring differences. I heart Sarah, but she’s not Reagan. She’s not an ideologue. She’s a reformer with a strong contrarian streak.

And for as much as I dislike McCain, I would not compare him to Ford.

spmat on October 6, 2008 at 2:06 PM

The main-stream media, the academy, the arts, publishing – all are bastions of leftist politics. It quite obvious, but conservatives have generally been satisfied to periodically point to examples of tilt and cry “aha!” as if demonstrating to the leftists that they are leftist will make them stop it and be fair. The worker bees in these hives of political wackery think that it is simply objective truth that Bush is a thug, capitalism is exploitive, competition is corrosive, business is theft, individualism is racist; and that conservatives are just trying to hide these facts with nonsense demands for “balance” in reporting.

They just aren’t ever going to do it. More than 90% of them are leftists and they wouldn’t know how to be balanced even if they had the desire to give it a shot, which they don’t. So if conservatives are going to have their voices heard they have to change their strategy away from pleading with the mainstream organs of popular delusion and towards finding ways around them.

Perhaps they could start by just refusing to talk to the New York Times, NBC, the Washington Post, etc. Just be straightforward – “You are and have been carrying water for the Democrats for years, and there is no more a reason for me to talk to you than there is for me to grant an interview to Obama’s campaign staff.”

Then we need to start to figure out a plan for getting the message out to the population without having to depend upon the “progressives” to carry it for us. That is why talk radio and Fox News work, but that’s pretty thin gruel. Until we can at least put up a reasonable fight in the public battle for ideas, we shouldn’t be surprised to lose.

All terrorists are dark skinned?

Theodore Kaczynski
Timothy McVeigh
Terry Nichols
Eric Robert Rudolph
Earth Liberation Front
Animal Liberation Front
Army of God
and of course the KKK.

This plays right into SarahCuda’s wheelhouse. Americans are tired of the political elite and their constant nuance of the truth.

innominatus on October 6, 2008 at 1:44 PM

That’s a mighty big assumption there, that Ayers even has a nozzle. That’s no man there. No Man would declare war on his own people and hide like a dog the way he did. Ayers is a gutless, lower than dirt animal. If someone (I’m not advocating, merely mentioning) killed him tomorrow, or some misfortune befell him and he lost his life, no one except his terrorist wife and Barack Obama would shed a tear for him. Hanging’s too good for him. He should be chopped up into little bits. Then fed to buzzards in the desert.
