Great response McCain! And for those who are discouraged that he may be too late, we still have this possibility too:

MEATACULAR!
Now just step back and let the media sink it’s teeth into it.
Oh wait, I forgot. They’re all orthorexic.

So, the “True Conservative” MDS complaint is now that this extremely strong performance just isn’t enough? Too little (guffaw) too late (double guffaw)
And the Obamabot response is “yawn”
Okie dokie then
When is election day again? Yesterday? Tomorrow?

It seems damn close to being too late, but McCain has proven everyone wrong repeatedly- the surge, the primaries, pre-Palin announcement… etc.
McCain, you better be right on this. Keep swinging for them fences, boss. It’s about time someone talked about who Obama really is.
One thing is for certain, they are stocked full of ammo. I hope the McCain camp and all the surrogates are ready for the inevitable media spin and backlash. If they play this right (forcing these issues into the MSM news cycle), they may be able to take on the media as well from a position of strength. There is far too much to spin or excuse.
I hope everyone is ready for a blitzkrieg campaign. Hit hard, hit fast, keep moving and devastate everything in your path.

Nobody on this thread runs and hides. All want to win. In case you haven’t noticed, the home team is behind in the game, primarily because of lack of offense. Hot Air and these posters have been screaming from the offensive coach’s seat to engage, engage, engage.
They are opinions, but given the astute individuals I read here, the campaign would do well to pay more attention. This is not the O’Bama Camp where we blindly worship the dear leader and any criticism is condemned. The defense has a gaping hole that you could drive a Mack truck through and until today, McCain refused to run through it. We have been pointing this out for 2 months!
Define your opponent or he will define you.

It’s about time. Good thing he picked Palin or this line might never have happened. I swear that woman could probably call me a dirty scum bag to my face and I’d be OK with it. Now that’s talent.
Hog Wild on October 6, 2008 at 7:27 PM
Waiting for a gaffe from your opponent is not a winning strategy. Neither is fumbling around for two weeks for another response because you thought “No really! I hate Wall Street, too!” would be good enough.
I’m all for putting this out there, but for heaven’s sake, this should have at least been part of Palin’s talking points during her debate, to say nothing of it having been best used as part of the only debate to date specifically focused on this issue. My only conclusion is that this is something the McCain campaign would rather have never mentioned. So, this is what we get: a lame duck riposte given to an opponent that has already moved on to his next match.
Maybe a media carpet bomb approach will work, maybe not. You strike when the iron is hot, though, not when it’s already been stolen, molded and set into a chain around your own neck.

Most people would be wrong. Managing the natural resources of the state is important and demanding too. Does anybody think managing a state like Vermont would be in the same league as Alaska?
forest on October 6, 2008 at 7:35 PM
Roger, maybe you could respond with wit and humor to make your point? Use examples and links specific with your arguement.
When you, or anyone else for that matter, start to go down this road….
……….. your initial arguement is lost, no matter how on point you are.
Just trying to give a little advice. I don’t want anyone to be banned, unless they truly deserve it, but I am not the one to make that call.

Re the stockmarket: I heard a little of Sean Hannity on the drive home. (Yes, I know. “You’re a great American.”) He mentioned that he had a thought last night that the market is declining because investors want to clear out while they are not punished with capital gains taxes BEFORE the capital gains taxes that Obama promises increase in a punitive way. Any thoughts?
McCain has to include his platform to not increase capital gains taxes and to lower corporate taxes to keep the engine of capitalism going and growing. Both are necessary to make America competitive and to increase job opportunities. He ought to hammer home, too, how energy production here will grow the economy.

Next week: Vote to kill babies born alive, campaign finance
Final week: The good Rev. J. Wright and “God Damn America”
Just consider how much material there is to work with that has ONLY been pushed by blogs and right-wing programs (Limbaugh, Hannity, et al).
They have the luxury of choosing which to attack each week in the final weeks and at what point they gain the most and do the most damage. The Obama campaign will be defensive. Their best shot is to shoot blanks (Keating Five) or something totally wierd like that “Gun Rights” ad on an another topic here.
Relax, have fun and enjoy this last month.

The rates won’t increase until 2011. Also, a lot of the selling has been of positions that are either short-term or at losses. Hannity should look at deleveraging, hedge fund redemptions, and cost of credit before he factors in a tax that is likely to increase from 15% to 20% 3 tax years from now.

don’t be an idiot. She brought up the statements Obama made about our troops in Afganistan Friday. The McCain campaign has a beautiful TV ad featuring (surprise!) Obama saying that crap ready to run first thing Monday morning.
McCain’s campaign ran two Obama-Fannie Mae ads 2-3 weeks ago. One was called Jim Johnson, one was called Franklin Raines.
Planned, coordinated attack. Really well done.
funky chicken on October 6, 2008 at 9:52 PM
About friggin time is right. He’s been allowing the Dems to blame everything on a lack of regulation–supposedly the fault of Republicans. That is the most dishonest (dare I say lie) the Dems have been perpetrating this election.
I am hopeful this line of talk makes it way into the debate tomorrow. Even SNL’s skit about this housing mess got the details right when they mocked Pelosi blaming the Republicans by having Barney Frank whisper that it was actually the Dems who blocked Fannie and Freddie reforms.
McCain needs to directly lay blame to the Dems for this crisis, because by all objective analysis, it is their fault. He can also hit the conservative line that in this case, government WAS the problem when they encouraged Fannie and Freddie to expand subprime lending in an attempt to increase poor and minority home ownership. A classic example of do good liberalism backfiring.
BryanS on October 6, 2008 at 9:54 PM
McCain was paying out rope…lots and lots of rope. Today he yanked it tight. Let’s hope he keeps yanking it between now and election day.

That’s my hope. I’m pretty angry about this myself–in a way that I have not been angry about a political issue in the past. McCain needs to educate the public–the press obviously won’t. I am usually pretty even tempered and willing to reflect on and reconsider my own partisanship. However I cannot see any other objective person think this was not the Dems’ fault.
BryanS on October 6, 2008 at 10:02 PM
Fantastic speech. It is not too late. John McCain is going to come from behind and win. He has been doing it for almost two years now.
I do agree with the comemnt that John McCain needs to cut the smile and show the WAR face — and show it at all times. One reason we need John McCain is to be Commander in Chief.

I feel your pain. I can’t vote for McCain any more than I can a Marxist since: he sponsored McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy; he supports “Living Constitution” judges (voted to confirm Breyer and Ginsburg and has praised O’Connor); he’s “pro-life” yet supports embryonic stem cell research; he’s a global warming apologist; he receives an F- from the Gun Owners of America for 2nd Amendment issues for many reasons; he has very well-known populist views of economics; he was a member of the “Gang of 14″; he voted for the $700+ billion pork chop, which was unconstitutional, unwise, and unjust in so many ways; and he didn’t even vote on the Clean [non-]Energy Act of 2007.
Just like with the rest of Congress, I’m not going to support someone who’s bailed on the values to which I’m dedicating my life to defend. If neither Obama nor McCain, or Democrats or Republicans for that matter, are supporting what I support, then I haven’t the slightest hesitation with seeking life elsewhere. I just wish more had the courage to do so. Most are more concerned with not losing what little we have left instead of trying to win.
Send_Me on October 6, 2008 at 10:59 PM
Well, here’s hoping the judge DOESN’T dismiss the case. And then here’s also hoping that he puts a very short time period (preferrably the 3 days that Berg suggests) on making Obama furnish certified copies of this birth certificate, citizenship papers, and oath of allegiance. If he sides with Berg, this could get VERY interesting.
thewhippingpost on October 6, 2008 at 11:00 PM
This is perfect timing for the theme of the McCain campaign.
He had to wait for the bill to pass as it was his Duty to country to try to solve the greatest national crisis of our time by going to D.C. and working behind the scenes to bring Republicans to the table.
What did he get for his efforts? Blatant partisan game playing and speeches denigrating him and his parties good faith efforts in helping solve a crisis the Democartic congress almost alone caused.
Tueday night it is his duty to his country to lay the blame where it belongs and correct the record. You see the mavericks do the hard work and fix things while the Democrats play politics while Rome burns.
It had to wait until the bill passed and he had the biggest audience of his life.
This I hope to be true, tomorrow at this time we will know.
Country First?
dhunter on October 6, 2008 at 11:04 PM
You honestly think that $700+ billion pork chop will fix anything? Are you somehow implying that it was the fiscally responsible thing to do?
I wonder, now that we’ve put this $700+ billion band-aid on the problem, when will Congress get around to fixing the systematic problems (created by themselves no less) that caused this? There are multiple solutions out there for this, but I wonder if this issue is even on the radar screen anymore, especially with elections coming so soon.
The first link is to Dave Ramsey’s plan. As the second link’s author attests:
“The solution to the problem, of course, has nothing to do with what Congress has been trying to do. Here is a first approximation of what should be done: 1. repeal the CRA and Sarbanes-Oxley (including “mark-to-market” valuation rules), 2. dismantle the GSE’s, 3. exempt the securities (or underlying mortgages) that have been targeted in the “bailout” from all income and capital gains taxes (this will attract private equity investors to buy the assets, thereby establishing market valuations), and 4. investigate all government officials (elected and otherwise), non-profits, and private sector players involved in creating the mortgage crisis, and impeach, censure, and prosecute as the evidence indicates.”

That is not the purpose of my post. The purpose of my post to to lay out a winning strategy for the McCain campign because as flawed as it is, it is light years better than an Obama marxist regime.
It is time to fight the battle immediately ahead not the one immediately behind that we lost.

No, True conservative complaint would be he should have been doing this kind of thing all along. The only reason he’s doing it now is his female VP has been showing more balls than him and he can either join her or keep letting the dems walk on him like a eunuch doormat. I’m glad he decided to join her.
I still think he’s the worst candidate the GOP has inflicted on us in 40 years, but I’m soooo glad he’s decided to act like he wants to win this election for a change.
I’ve been picturing him as Grandpa Simpson, snoring away while Palin goes out and tries to do it all. Nice to see someone woke him up. Hooray. Maybe the problem old Backdoor John is having is he’s treating this election like his sneaky amnesty bill. He wants to keep everything quiet so no one knows anything about what’s really going on. But elections aren’t like that. We want our candidate to act like he wants to win. Or at least has a pulse. He can’t do a dead of night endrun around the American people in a Presidential election like he wanted to with the McCain/Kennedy Bill. You have to stand up, Backdoor John. You have to fight. Hope he keeps it up. I could care less if McCain wins but I do hope Obama loses. Palin deserves a better running mate. She really does.
Is that the TC response you were hoping for, flunky chicken? Were the miserable cynics supposed to jump up, tear our hair, beat our breasts, and beg Backdoor John to forgive our faithlessness? It takes a bit more than McCain doing his damn job correctly for a change to impress me. Then again, he could go out there and do the Meowmix Jingle (meow meow meow meow, ect) and you’d be doing cartwheels, exclaiming at the esoteric brilliance of his delivery.

Please, keep this in mind if McCain wins and enacts amnesty, global warming reduction policies, nominates more judges like the one’s for whom he’s voted/given support before, etc. Let me know how giving 10 million illegal aliens citizenship will not leave a permanent scar on this country. The Republicans will lose more seats in the house in 2010 and 2012, and I assure you, no Republican will have a chance at getting elected in 2012 in the White House. So after enduring another “lesser of two evils”, we’ll yet again be faced with the likes of Obama, which will be much worse since the Republicans won’t have any power left in Congress to halt any Obama legislative ideas, judges, or policies. So yes, please remember this if McCain gets elected.
Rather than whining about how bad McCain is and how much we should still vote for him, how about focusing on the Congressional races, which will greatly improve the odds of avoiding amnesty, increased taxes, global warming garbage, “living Constitution” judge confirmations, etc.?
The advantage that liberals have: they have tactical patience. Don’t believe me? Look around at how many freedoms of ours have eroded over the years because we’ve stopped voting on principle and for the “lesser of two evils”. Liberals don’t care. They’ll wait. They’ll whittle away a little here and there, until one day “conservatives” will look around and say, “hey, how’d we get here?” “Conservatives” have gotten here because of their shortsightedness and apathy, nothing more.
