I hope it’s not too little too late.

Mac was so solid today. Obama is hoping Mac will change the subject.

Keep on ‘em Mac! If we gotta go down, let’s go down swingin’ hard!

…like most of us conservatives.
Give ‘em hell, Mac!

He better have a good debate tomorrow and hammer this home. I want to see that famous Obama stutter…
If you don’t define your opponents they define you, and I’m baffled why Republicans have been largely silent on the Democrats culpability in this whole financial mess.

Yawn.

He seems happy doing it too, he’s energized. I guess he loves being the underdog…he needs to push this in commercials, especially the one of Barney Frank.

So they’re hitting Obama on Ayers, Wright and Fannie…flank.

Unleash hell, Mac. Let the Dems pay for all the trouble they have wrought. Let the patron saints of this travesty be Pelosi, Reid, Obama, and Frank. PROF, as in those who profess and proffer. The unaccountable louts of Liberalism.

Starting my own rumor: Obama is an invention of the FBI.
Let’s see him disprove it.

Late or not late, it is the absolute right argument to make. Even if McCain loses, he needs to lose swinging for the fences.

In order to make this point, a massive media buy will have to occur, pushing this message constantly, to get it to stick, right?

Fox News reports that Palin kicked Obama’s ass around Florida today. She did a great job of dealing on a heckler.
Make sure that you read Bill Kristol’s column about her in today’s NYT. She went after Obama for Wright.
It’s Christmas in October.
BuckeyeSam on October 6, 2008 at 6:10 PM
Go down fighting. Go down trying to stop the most radical and inexperienced Presidential candidate in modern history from getting power.
BadgerHawk on October 6, 2008 at 6:10 PM
More of this over and over again. In Battlegrounds. At the debate. Palin should be on this too. Fight. Fight. Fight.
Mr. Joe on October 6, 2008 at 6:10 PM
It is.
The meme has stuck. People want revenge against the “greedy Wall Street” that McCain, and Palin, mind you, have been crowing about since this whole thing started.
The time to have brought this up was at the beginning.
Too late, Mac.
spmat on October 6, 2008 at 6:11 PM
I’d like to see Palin make the following point along these lines:
“Barack Obama has not been as scrutinized by the mainstream media as I have. In fact I wonder, if they’d been doing their job, if maybe Hillary might not be their nominee.”
It’s a PUMA play.

The only undecideds in my family are my in-laws (my father-in-law admits he has a bad record; he voted for both impeached presidents). I know better than to try and push anything on them.
Last I heard though, they’re leaning towards McCain anyway based on taxes. I hope that stays true, but I can’t imagine Texas going blue either way.

True, there is an imperitive for character, even if you have to have it alone. I gues I am having the hardest time understanding that 50 plus percent of my fellow Americans appear to be idiots and are buying the crpa Obama is selling.
MikeA on October 6, 2008 at 6:13 PM
not sure if this will help him at all. he needs to unload with ads and bring this up in the debate.

When McCain says “Who is Barack Obama?” Someone yells out what sounds like “terrorist.” The libs are picking up on it, Marc Arbinder also references it. I’m sure the MSM will not be far behind.
Complete7 on October 6, 2008 at 6:13 PM
There has been great management of the news cycle by the McCain campaign. They send Palin out over the weekend to talk about Ayers, while leaking that the McCain campaign wants to “turn the page” concerning the economy. Team Obama cries out, in response to Palin, “They’re trying to distract you from the economy! Talk about the economy! Economy! Economy! Economy!” So what does McCain do? He comes out talking about the economy and pegs Obama and Congressional Democrats in one fell swoop. Now, while it’s only Monday, McCain has completely dominated the start of the news cycle with two damaging narratives (Ayers and FM/FM). Great job team McCain. I had my doubts, but very well done. Keep going. Keep hitting. Push through to Nov.
Weight of Glory on October 6, 2008 at 6:14 PM
OMG this is great. I hope its not to late. Like I said before, if the one is elected, we must fight him every step of the way until he is impeached.

So what? Do they pick up on the Code Pinkers stealing peoples’ identities in order to disrupt the RNC or the Obamabots disrupting our candidates’ speeches or damaging peoples’ property?
Honestly, how any responsible adult could vote for this guy with the crowd of losers who support him is beyond me.
Y-not on October 6, 2008 at 6:22 PM
Yep. He better have all these talking points ready for Obama. Especailly that 95% tax line. That was awesome. That Obama promised it in the past, and reneged should say everything.
I think this speech glanced over FM/FM a little too much; and didn’t hit congress hard enough. But it’s an excellent start.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow at the debate. I wanna see the ass-kicking McCain that was missing at debate 1.

We all need to get a pocket copy of the constitution, wrap it in plastic and bury it in the back yard. Those of us left over after the 8 to 10 years Obama said he’d be President, will be able dig them up and refer to it as we rebuild. All the other public copies will have been destroyed by then.
JellyToast on October 6, 2008 at 6:24 PM
You are probably right. But, I’ve been nay-saying about McCain for a while, and it finally occurred to me today as the stock market dipped below 10k that we need Republicans in the White House or we WILL end up in the Great Depression again. So, let’s back McCain and let’s fight, because our country is at stake here.
Even Democrats I talk to are privately afraid that Obama will be a catastrophe.

Roger Waters on October 6, 2008 at 6:25 PM
John Zogby disagrees with you. He has Obama 48-44 and not closing the deal at all. I just heard him on POTUS 08. He said his polling looks a lot like it did in 2004. He said on balance the dynamics favor Obama, but voters still have to believe they can TRUST the candidate to do what they think he will do before they will vote for him. He said this does give McCain an opening because voters already trust him. I think McCain must have seen these numbers because this speech responds perfectly. Do not just throu out character attacks; lay out a policy agenda and then show how your opponent may be saying now that he has an agenda, but you cannot trust him do do any of it because (a) he hasn’t done anything at all of note in government; (b) he has changed positions even during the campaign, (c) he and his party largely created the mess we are in so we can’t trust them to fix it, and (d) what little record he has for the most part is completely different from what he is saying now.
George Bush was losing to John Kerry in 2004 until he was able to paint him as an untrustworthy flip-flopper who wanted America to submit to a “global test.” If you recall, Kerry made that “global test” gaffe in the second debate and Bush hammered him with it for the rest of the campaign.
rockmom on October 6, 2008 at 6:25 PM
This is great stuff, but Mac will have to hammer this at the debate, in a nice, concise, two-minute package. Democrats pushed risky loans from Fannie and Freddie. Name names. Franklin Raines, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, ACORN. Obama getting more money than Fannie and Freddie than any Senator except Dodd. McCain tried to regulate Fannie and Freddie in 2005, all Republicans on Banking Committee for, all Democrats against, bill was filibustered. Republicans tried to fix it, Democrats get Fannie money and try to blame Bush.
Get all that in a two-minute speech, JMac, rehearse it over and over until you’re seething, then slam it home tomorrow night!!!
Steve Z on October 6, 2008 at 6:26 PM
I came into this post prepared to write: “day late, dollar short” but changed my mind after watching the video.
Looks like somebody lit a fire under McCain. This speech would have had even more impact delivered last week, but better late than never. McCain delivered it with passion, conviction and IMO it’s devastating to Obama and the Democrats.
Maybe it’s red-meat-syndrome but this was of the better speeches I’ve seen McCain give. I’m EAGERLY awaiting the debate tomorrow. I’ve got a hunch there are going to be some BIG fireworks.
Like it’s been said in posts above, this needs to be repeated ad nauseam till election day.
Engelwood on October 6, 2008 at 6:26 PM
Not too late, the timing is perfect. The polls would naturally tighten anyway as the in the tank media needs to establish some sort of credibility.
They will tighten further as the message gets out and McCain Palin will pull ahead as the fence sitters start paying attention in the last few weeks.
This was no accident the Dems are now on record blaming Repubs, capitalisim, free markets.
They will be shown to not only be the problem that caused this mess but also willing to play politics with it and lie about it in a time of serious national crisis. A bigger disgrace does not exist than this and it shouldn’t be hard to place the blame where it belongs even Bill Clinton said it was the Dems doing!
Call for Franks and Dodd to resign and for Ried and Pelosi to step down from leadership posts. Guaranteed air time and a tough and patriotic stance.

ConservativePartyNow on October 6, 2008 at 6:32 PM
No folks, it is not too late. However….
It is not the attacks that will gain McCain ground, it is the response from Obama – a personal insult in retaliation here, an ungracefull jab at Sarah there – that is what will close the gap.
Therefore, MR. McCAIN Sir:
Please keep up the attacks, each and every day…fight like you did in Hanoi. You said your country is what kept you alive. Well, I think you know very what what America will look like in 2016 of Obama wins.
Look, we know you are a decent man. Heck, if it was even Hillary ahead in polls I would understand that your well-known respect and admiration for her would hold you back. But this fella is not worthy to lead a Thanksgiving Day parade, let alone the greatest country on earth.
You are a great man Mr. McCain, but we all expect great things from you. There is nothing you said today that is beneath you, below the belt, or untrue. It deserves to be said and more.
Go get em and God bless you sir
Waterboy on October 6, 2008 at 6:32 PM
So, McCain went to all this effort just to deliberately lose in order to stick it to the Republicans who didn’t vote for him in 2000?

Johnny boy, where have you been?? I’ve missed you until now.
I expect you to POUND OBAMA’S A$$ INTO THE GROUND on this issue during the debate.

I cannot remember an election where one candidate was a borderline criminal and a serial liar. Don’t say “Nixon” his transactions happened after he was elected – the second time. It baffles me to no end why Big O is ahead in the polls. Are the American people that stooooopid?
I think they are.
I want people who are engaged in the debate to vote, not some slacker, young or old, who votes for the most congenial or the best talker. I really think a test should be required to obtain a ballot. If someone cannot name their representative or the Secretary of State, (I know somne who can’t name even one of their Senators.) they should not be allowed to vote.

Simple solution: minimum voting age RAISED to 25. By 30, you would have paid some amount of taxes, faced lifed to some degree, etc.
The idea that some 18-year old sh*thead (apologies to our younger posters, but I am on a rant here) gets the same say as I do about who and how much my taxes will go up, etc., makes me angry. I know its not the most popular stance, but that is the way I feel.
Waterboy on October 6, 2008 at 6:37 PM
Whichever one spends the most time on the game. It’s not a game who proves who is smartest. It just proves who memorized the most openings and endings, which is why even Bobby Fisher couldn’t compete anymore when he came out of retirement shortly before dying.
Yes, there is plenty of skill involved, but without studying the books, anyone would lose.
And I’m saying this as someone whose husband picked his college based on its chess program. University of Texas at Dallas had the number chess team at one point, and he actually made it on the team (he even got a blazer). I even beat him once but only once, because I don’t study it that much.
I wish you’d drop the bimbo line. It’s ungrounded and it’s useless.
Esthier on October 6, 2008 at 6:37 PM
This has nothing to do with either optimism or pessimism. This has to do with McCain believing that Wall Street is greedy, and that government regulation is the only way to keep “Wall Street greed” from hurting ThePeople™. Go read his fantasies of being the next Teddy Roosevelt, smiting the avaricious robber barons of Wall Street with his mavericky awesomeness.
Now he wants to play shell game and make this about Fannie and Freddie? Notice he didn’t make any points about the fundamental error behind GSE and connect it to the evils of ever-growing government. Reagan would have made that point from day one.
McCain will pull out of this one only by the grace of God Almighty and a liberal dose of common sense airdropped from heaven to the American people.

John McCain’s statement on the financial crisis is excellent. However, one additional point needs to be made. Two pollsters on the Sean Hannity show this afternoon mentioned that part of the reason for Mccain’s drop in the polls with independents is that the republicans are viewed as the party in power because Bush is in the White House. As far as the financial crisis is concerned, the party in power at the time was the congressional democrats, not the republicans. This must be addressed in all speeches, debates and ads. We must win the independents back.
