Video: SNL on the debate and the bailout

Eh. Nearly all of the Palin jokes are recycled this time. They didn’t even do anything with the winking.

You’ll like the second skit, though. If even SNL’s willing to put the Fannie/Freddie blame where it belongs, there must be an audience out there for that NRCC ad.

I’d like to stop giving SNL publicity if possible. Can’t they just be ignored?

jeanie on October 5, 2008 at 10:16 AM

“Barney Frank” was great. I haven’t laughed that hard at SNL for years. I just wish he had done a little more talking.

forest on October 5, 2008 at 10:18 AM

SNL was okay. Tina Fey’s portrayal of Palin is not as funny anymore. But I thought Queen Latifa was great as Gwen Ifill and Biden was funny too.

But the really funny part was the Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank congressional bit. Hey Team McCain and the RNC, with a little editing of real clips and some humor you could do devestating ads on Congress right now.

You should do so. FAST.

Mr. Joe on October 5, 2008 at 10:19 AM

The funniest part of the second skit was when the Democratic overlord came in told Pelosi what to do. How scary will it be when Soros does control the US govt by proxy.

That second video is depressing…and infuriating.

Tired and lame. Nothing new from the Left.

SuperManGreenLantern on October 5, 2008 at 10:23 AM

If the second one sinks in, Dems are in deep trouble. Deep. When SNL tells you Bush tried to stop it and the Dems blocked it, people know it ain’t Republican spin.

I love the title under Soros:

George Soros
Multi-billionaire Hedge Fund Manager
Owner, Democratic Party

Bwahahah!

TheBigOldDog on October 5, 2008 at 10:23 AM

They didn’t even do anything with the winking.

They play the wink when saying as long as she doesn’t faint it’s a tie. Then she winks.

SNL was okay. Tina Fey’s portrayal of Palin is not as funny anymore. But I thought Queen Latifa was great as Gwen Ifill and Biden was funny too.

I agree with that assessment. And maybe it’s just overkill, but Bush = idiot stuff turns me off to skits now. Maybe just seen that too many times. Pelosi lady with her eyes and Frank’s lisp were not bad tho’.

Spirit of 1776 on October 5, 2008 at 10:23 AM

On Fox Sunday, Karl Rove is politely confirming my suspicions about McCain’s campaign: it’s being run by idiots.

Alec Baldwin also mentioned the Democrats + Fannie Mae thing on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.

How sad is it that Alec Frickin’ Baldwin and SNL have covered the Democrats’ Fannie Mae scam more than the media have?

Here’s the clip of Baldwin, strangely, mentioning the Democrats’ fault in the Fannie Mae business: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6FOI7yo7uE

I could hardly believe my eyes and ears when he said this. Alec Baldwin faulting the Democrats for something? Holy crap.

And again – when’s the New York Times and the rest of the gang going to report on this? Alec Baldwin and SNL beat them to it. How sad.

Tina Fey needs a little more Wasilla in that accent, a little less Minneapolis.

That Biden was hilarious, though. Even brilliant.

Juan Williams is trying to blunt the fingerpointing at Freddie-Fannie. Typical NPR liberal who doesn’t understand economics.

Brit Hume is trying to school him. And he named names. Juan Williams is silenced and fuming. I love Brit Hume. Williams called it “slanting” the conversation. Liasson steps in to tie Dems to Fannie-Freddie.

Juan Williams is a crybaby.

Precisely! What was once a tiny spider monkey is morphing into a 500 lb. gorilla. The F-F debacle is forcing its way into the public consciousness. Last night, Fox News did a big investigative report. Bit by bit, it’s getting out of the Democrats’ control. Trust me on this: in the political arena – especially in elections – one week is as good as a lifetime.

Anything that gets Pelosi and Frank exposure in pop culture can do nothing but help. The “Bush is an idiot” theme is old and tired, but Nancy as an evil puppet of George Soros, and Frank as a bumbling idiot, now that’s new to some people – and true to boot.

Why is SNL hitting this harder than McCain? And apparently Alec Baldwin too? It’s welcome, but what’s wrong with the McCain campaign?

C’mon McCain, the election can be won, and this is the path, along with Ayers and friends too. One month left.

C’mon McCain, the election can be won, and this is the path, along with Ayers and friends too. One month left. – forest on October 5, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Not necessarily. Hear me out: if McCain comes out swinging aganst the Congress critters who did this, he opens up a second front and will have to divert resources there. Yes, I know this is a big issue, but the bigger issue is OBAMA. McCain is running against Barry, not against Congress.

Yes, I know that Obama is attacking the Republicans on this issue, but he is doing so as a diversionary tactic. If McCain can sow enough doubt about Obama’s integrity in the minds of the electorate, he will effectively undercut any message Obama tries to relate. The McCain campaign is doing a good job of keeping the electorate focused on the candidates.

Again, please bear in mind that a lot of things are moving at the same time; many strategies and tactics are being employed simultaneously. The fact that Baldwin and SNL have fingered the Democrats means that Obama’s narrative of the Republicans being at fault is collapsing. Over the course of the next week expect talk radio, Fox and the blogosphere to keep ounding on this issue.

It WILL break into the mainstream very soon – and McCain can continue pounding away at Barry’s qualifications and associations with shady, corrupt and traitorous people.

We already saw Sarah fire both barrels over the weekend.Be patient, folks. The battle in the Ardennes forest wasn’t won in a single day.

My two cents. *puts on flak jacket and helmet* Open fire.

I’m sorry. I know you all think Palin can do no wrong, but she does. She’s human. SNL has made fun of both sides (and sometimes they really pile it on to one or the other, as evidenced by this week’s Fannie/Freddie skit and last weeks “I approve this message” skit). We all know what happens when a bunch of people from one side get together and make fun of the other side (coughhalfhournewshourcough). It sucked. I’m glad SNL is making fun of both sides. And, contrary to popular belief, there is a lot to make fun of Palin about (and I did catch a wink in the beginning, but they should have done more). In fact, I’m a little disappointed they didn’t hit her on the “General McClellan” thing. That was just ridiculous. If Hairplugs had done it, there would be a 2000 comment thread filled with outrage from you guys.

I agree with your post that the attacking Obama and his pack of sketchy business and political associates will probably be number 1, but the Democrats’ blaming the banking mess on the Republicans will need to be answered strongly and will factual counter accusations included. I’m amazed that BO is only up 7% right now, and I think it can be overcome with some aggression on McCain’s part.

I’m an infrequent listener, but I happened to hear that segment. I have no doubt it’s accurate too. I think alot of people tuned in to see Palin collapse, and when it didn’t happen, they kinda lost enthusiasm. But they couldn’t admit they we’re 100% wrong about the debate, so most of them still insisted Biden won, of course (see CNN commentators).

ManlyRash on October 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Sorry, can’t disagree more. Middle America doesn’t want to hear about wild claims about Ayers. The will if McCain’s rockhead campaign will tie in their squandering of a grant exceeding $100 million to improve Chicago schools, which remain in a shambles. Obama’s record is like a cheap auto detail job: looks good coming out of the shop, but blisters and peels in short order. At this point, trying to reclaim Wright may be a waste of time. Also, no one wants to hear about Bush’s two wars. Though I vehemently disagree, the country views Obama as passable on national security.

McCain is getting killed as Obama misrepresents McCain’s $5,000 health care credit. Obama’s also killing McCain on the tax argument because it’s class warfare and McCain does a lousy job of explaining it. I’d emphasize the large corporation rate reduction.

McCain has been outflanked on energy. Now, that’s pathetic.

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are so easily tied to Obama that you’d have to call it a “target-rich environment.” These guys and others are McCain’s Willie Hortons.

Finally, I’m unwilling to believe that any campaign that allows Tucker Bounds to appear on TV knows what it’s doing. He’s awful. This morning, Karl Rove essentially called the recent campaign announcements of upcoming moves (leaving Michigan and gloves off) dopey. Still operating at a bush league level. I hope change is coming. Time is running out.

Hey, did anybody catch Rush’s show last Friday, after the debate, and hear what the kid form University of Wisconsin had to say about the crowd watching the debate?

It was an eye opener.

Here is the transcript

RUSH: …you’re telling me that in the heart of liberalism in Wisconsin, Madison –

CALLER: Yep. They’re completely losing their love. I mean, they used to love him here.

And this…I found particularly interesting:

RUSH: Why all of a sudden? In their gut they didn’t like her; now they like her? A typical liberal would hate her even more.

CALLER: Oh, but she can talk to them, and there were some girls around me that even said that. They said, “Wow, I mean she’s a great speaker. I really like her.” I mean those are their exact words. Even though — I mean, in my opinion — half the people here are mindless. They don’t know why they like Obama. So when they hear things they do like, they don’t understand why they’re supposed to be disagreeing with her. Do you know what I mean?

I’m amazed that BO is only up 7% right now, and I think it can be overcome with some aggression on McCain’s part. -forest on October 5, 2008 at 11:14 AM

Indeed. People need to keep this fact in mind. Given everything that has happened and the enormous head start that he had in this campaign, Obama should be leading by high double-digits – and he isn’t.

No less a political prognosticator than Rush Limbaugh (whose analyses have always been spot-on and whose political instinct is nearly flawless) pointed out that if Obama is not leading by double digits come the middle of October, he is toast. And he is correct.

We are already seeing cracks in the facade of the Obama campaign. As more dirt comes out on Rezko, Ayers, Wright and all of Obama’s dubious past associations, you will see those cracks widen.

The Drive-Bys cannot ignore the F-F debalce for the rest of the month – is is morphing out of control. At some point soon, they will be forced to address the issue ad when they do, it will spell doom for this particular Obama tactic.

All the while, McCain and Palin will be laying heavy artillery into Obama’s credibility. And the polling data will begin to reflect that later in the week.

When I awoke today and began watching all of the Sunday morning “news” progams, I thought I had slept through until November 5th.

Everyone was saying “Obama’s won this thing”.

Well when you think about it, why shouldn’t the MSM ignore the people’s vote in America? Remember, it is THEY who decide not only who wins but who the candidates will be.

They’re getting cocky now, something that might come back to haunt them. They had Kerry the big winner too.

You may be right, although she seemed to me, early on, to be downright orgasmic to be “tapped” for the role–gloriously happy-looking during her interviews about it. When the comparative pictures started coming out, and stayed out, not so much. Your reasoning may be true, but it also may be a plausible excuse for her to stop, or at least change, her act.

The Drive-Bys cannot ignore the F-F debalce for the rest of the month – is is morphing out of control. At some point soon, they will be forced to address the issue ad when they do, it will spell doom for this particular Obama tactic.

McCain needs to explain to voters why a Socialist like Obama would be a disaster in the WH. The FM/FM disaster gives him the perfect opening. Democratic legislators like Barney Franks and Chris Dodd (as well as Democratic lawyers and ACORN activists like Obama) forced banks to give mortgage loans to more and more unqualified borrowers because they believed it was only “fair” that everybody own a home — whether they could afford one or not. Similarly, Barack Obama said in one of the primary debates that he plans to raise the capital gains tax rate, even if it reduces the government’s revenues, because he believes it’s the “fair” thing to do.

Obama and the Democrats’ socialistic attempts to legislate “fairness” (as they define it, which is all about the gov’t redistributing income from the people who earn it to the people who don’t) — has brought this country to the brink of financial ruin. We have to reject these failed Socialist principles and return to the things that made this country so successful in the first place: capitalism, free markets, personal responsibility, self-reliance, etc. McCain believes in these things. If he would just go out and talk about why they are important and how he is going to restore them (Senator Kyl’s proposal to break up FM/FM and sell them off to the private sector would be a good start), it will resonate with many voters (including a lot of Democrats) who are enraged by the bail-out.

So that wasn’t your autograph I got? Curse those impersonators!

Interesting that the crowd seemed nervous during the 2nd skit. Maybe it was a lightbulb moment for them. One can only hope.

Well obviously we will never know for sure but I have to admit that she and the hubby are absolutely hysterical in the speeches “for” Sen. Obama. I guess whether it works will be the deciding factor but you just have to marvel at two people who’s every word is politically calculated. It must be very tiring. Or if it isn’t that might be even scarier.

Cindy Munford on October 5, 2008 at 12:11 PM

For some reason, the characters of Wizard of Oz just came to mind, and an analogy seems to fit.

The continued SNL parodying notwithstanding, after Thursday’s debate, Palin is now America’s Dorothy. She did well enough Thursday in the eyes of middle America that for the next four weeks, she’s wearing a pair of red shoes that make her bullet proof. She can essentially tee off on Obama and Biden, and they really can’t do a thing about it. She shouldn’t abuse her stature by cutting corners on the truth, but I do think that of the four candidates, she’s the only one middle America is inclined to believe.

Now, if someone can get McCain–our cowardly lion, scarecrow, and tin man rolled into one–some courage, a brain, and some heart, we might be on our down the yellowbrick road to a win in November.

The Wicked Witch is the left and MSM, collectively, and each of its major and minor players, individually. And, be honest, given their thuglike tactics, don’t Obama supporters remind you of the flying monkeys? Seriously.

I’m a little uncertain about who the Wizard figure should be, but I’m inclined to say McCain’s senior campaign staff. They’re kind of bumbling, but they ultimately end up helping Dorothy and the others get what they need.

For the last major role, the Good Witch, we’ll have to switch genders because that role has to go to Karl Rove.

Keep your eyes open for the Wicked Witch and flying monkeys.

Bummer. If a crowd is following me I just won the lottery and most of them will be relatives.

Cindy Munford on October 5, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Man they’re SNL’s disgusting. That was so onesided and nasty towards her that I couldn’t finish watching it. You can see that these people are panicking because Palin is not as dumb as they thought she was.

AlexB on October 5, 2008 at 12:03 PM

Boy I think you only saw half the skit, they made Biden look ridiculous as well.

billhedrick on October 5, 2008 at 12:15 PM

She said “maverick” about 30 times.

malan89 on October 5, 2008 at 11:30 AM

I confess, I pruned that clip down substantially–but for effect only. I saw this morning where Fox counted the number of times Maverick was used.

Total = 15

Palin = 6

Biden = 9

I didn’t count them myself, but that’s what’s been reported.

BuckeyeSam on October 5, 2008 at 12:18 PM

Maybe because they don’t have the power to change my mind I am a relaxed about this but I have to say the flute and the drinking game cracked me up. I need to go and change if I am going to get to American Carol.

Cindy Munford on October 5, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Looks like Queen Latifa’s Gwen Awful had more integrity than the original moderator – she had the good sense to do full disclosure of the book.
It’s astonishing that these days telling the truth can be that outrageously funny. It’s come to this?
Out with a wimper as far as the left is concerned.
As for conservatives: It’s not over til WE SAY it is. Keep laughing, loonies. The lid is off the can of whoop-ass now! This week there will be blood on the walls.
Ssssssssara-cuda!

Yes, yes but your are missing malan89 bigger point. It is bad to have this game around college students. Because this game was just newly invented too many young folk are being drawn into a potentially dangerous pursuit. /sarc

billhedrick on October 5, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Given that they ridiculed Ifill twice by having Queen Latifah plug her book, I thought even Latifah’s sidewise glances at Fey were funny. I’m sure calling attention to the book deal made some Manhattan heads explode. The left thought that serious conflict of interest was going to go unnoticed by their own. Hah!

Besides, you have to admit that seeing Queen in that hairdo was hilarious in and of itself!

BuckeyeSam on October 5, 2008 at 12:23 PM

Hey! Leave Tina Fey alone! I think her use of the accent is great…. will have zero impact on the vote from NY and LA but WILL have an impace in MN, WI and northern MI… and not in a postive way for Dems.

Forgive me, I guess I didn’t go back far enough in the threat. Besides, that game’s not new. I remember playing it on occasion at college 25-30 years ago.

I interjected the supposedly correct tallies because I’d already heard that Palin was getting criticized for using the word so often. Funny to see that big-mouth Biden beat her in that category–after all, Obama and Biden are the real mavericks.
