Eh. Nearly all of the Palin jokes are recycled this time. They didn’t even do anything with the winking.
You’ll like the second skit, though. If even SNL’s willing to put the Fannie/Freddie blame where it belongs, there must be an audience out there for that NRCC ad.

I also liked that they picked a woman who’s immune to Obama’s sex appeal.
Jim Treacher on October 5, 2008 at 12:30 PM
I agree entirely. Every time Manhattan or Hollywood laughs at that accent, Obama loses vote in those three states.
I’m telling you, Palin is bulletproof through the election.

Nothing in the world to forgive. The back and forth between malan89 and myself is pretty funny, only to be topped off with what I assume is the ultimate insult of being compared to RaceCard. The tally will be very instructive to malan89 since the original premise was that several of us were complicit in idol worship of Gov. Palin to the point of being blinded to the fairness of the SNL skit. Although, in fairness, I was later excluded from that group.

I watched SNL last night, and I must confess that I loved the opening skit. Tina Fey caricatured her perfectly. Don’t get me wrong. I love Sarah Palin, and I do not believe that SNL was any more rough on her than they were on Joe Biden. And Queen Latifah slammed Gwen Ifill on the book. It was great!
Then SNL was awesome on the Bailout skit. They skewered Pelosi and Franks. I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty fair treatment. They were equally rough on both parties.
DCGamer on October 5, 2008 at 12:43 PM
And they nailed Bush’s unwillingness to defend himself against the most partisan attacks. Seemed to me like the audience recognized that clearly.

As a Minnesootan I gotta comment in my native tongue.
Ya sure ya betcha we like Sarah here, doncha kno’ But we think she talks just fine, she doesn’t have no accent dere. The minnesootan accent is kinda an outstate thing dere. We city folks don’t sound that different from most midwestern folks. But hey get a couple a’ Grain Belts in us and some
hotdish and corndogs and you got yourselves a whole pile of Marge Gundersons. Doncha kno.
billhedrick on October 5, 2008 at 12:53 PM
I thought SNL went over the line again, attacking Palin’s daughter’s soon to be marriage. Leave the kids OUT!
Anyway, the skit was boring. The same thing over and over, “I hunt.” Get some new writers.
The bailout skit was boring too. Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen at least made me chuckle a few times, but it wasn’t all that great.

This is a perfect time to dust off those stories. The Obama campaign thinks they got through the Wright, Ayers, Rezco stuff, mainly because it came out so long ago and they’ve had time to recover.
Some people haven’t heard this background info at all. My sister was talking to a friend of hers (Obama supporter) that had never heard of Rev Wright or Ayers…I find that hard to believe, but I think some people are just now starting to pay attention.
Who was it that wrote in response to “Can McCain win”.. “if they make it about McCain, NO, if they make it about Obama, YES.
nyrofan on October 5, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Check this out at Instapundit.com:
I JUST GOT THIS EMAIL: “Republican National Committee (RNC) Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross will announce today a complaint that the RNC is filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Obama campaign. The complaint will address foreign national and excessive contributions accepted by the Obama campaign that demonstrate it is operating outside of federal campaign finance law.”
That’s all the detail there is, and I can’t do the 1 pm conference call they’re announcing, but I assume it’s about this kind of thing. And this?

Yah, yah. Yoo betcha. Sooper-dooper.
ManlyRash on October 5, 2008 at 1:11 PM
This won’t change the campaign for Obama but, with a little luck and a lot of noise, it just might get mentioned on the news that John Doe watches and have some influence. Any real action taken will be long after the election.

Fey did do a wink about 5 minutes in. I was glad they at least made pretty good fun of Ifill and Biden here.
CP on October 5, 2008 at 1:20 PM
I loved the bailout sketch. It was probably more factual than anything run by the news division on the subject. And hitting George Soros — maybe people will get curious about who he is and more of his activities will become public knowledge — like, say, he and his family giving $60K to Obama’s first Illinois senate campaign.
doppelganglander on October 5, 2008 at 1:35 PM
I can’t believe they did got Herb and Marion Sandler in there. Those are the same folks pushing cap-and-trade from San Francisco. Such sophistication from an SNL skit is pleasantly surprising.
warrenmr on October 5, 2008 at 1:36 PM
Why does everyone think Tina Fey looks like Governor Palin?
Tina Fey is fugly, Palin is quite beautiful. If this were the SATs the question might look like this:
Tina Fey is to Sarah Palin like stinky feet is to Lilacs.

“I also liked that they picked a woman who’s immune to Obama’s sex appeal.” Jim Treacher: Surely you jest; what sex appeal?
If possible, Obama has less sex appeal than BJ, who made me hurl the first time i saw his sleazy face. Obama is just downright creepy, but then again, his wife is scarier. Actually, sex appeal doesn’t even come to mind when it comes to the Obamas; the mating habits of the praying mantis does.
I loved the fact that they included Georgy Porgy Soros. I’m astounded that they know who he is.

“does” should be ‘do’.

As weary as I am of SNL’s rather tired political humor, this week’s Lawrence Welk sketch was as funny as anything that has been on that show in a decade.

Bob L on October 5, 2008 at 1:55 PM
The whole show was fantastic. One of the funniest in a long time. The Mary Poppins sketch had me crying. Showed the video to my family today and they howled. Even Anne Hathaway’s opening monologue was hilarious.
The George Soros thing was GOLD. Plus the hit on the deadbeats and yuppies and the Sandlers was pitch perfect. And it’s about time somebody realized that Barney Frank is crying out for parody.
rockmom on October 5, 2008 at 2:00 PM
I thought the first Fey/Palin skit from a few weeks ago was funny, because it wasn’t obvious how much Fey apparently hates her. But now the hostility is so evident that it’s just not funny to me anymore. Plus, the more we get to see the real Sarah in action, the more obvious it is that Fey’s impersonation is about half and inch deep. Sarah’s not an idiot from Minnesota, so Fey’s approach is fundamentally off.

But yeah, I was really taken aback by the second skit. I could not believe that SNL would actually nail the Democrats like that, even though doing so vindicates President Bush. I guess it only makes sense if the writers really do feel that the election is so far in the bag that they can afford to take some shots.
Kensington on October 5, 2008 at 2:10 PM
For good comedy you need an element of truth. Where is the stuttering Obama clips,, the messiah Obama routines, the Obama who complains about reporters mentioning he has big ears,, the Obama meeting with terrorists friends in his neighborhood and not noticing the flag his friends are standing on, the Obama who doesn’t have a clue about where to put his hand during the National Anthem or pledge of Allegiance, the Obama throwing flowers like they’re litter at the 911 memorial, The clueless Obama, the Obama that says Iran is a “tiny little country (while holding his fingers high up in the air an inch apart) and is not a threat to the US,,,
The propaganda of SNL is not even funny and I don’t want to waste my time with it,, any more than I would find amusing little skits Joseph Goebbels did of Jews in Nazi Germany.
JellyToast on October 5, 2008 at 2:11 PM
New mortgage crisis YouTube video that provides context for the SNL clip
From “TheMouthPiece” who put together the “Burning Down the House” video that was pulled from YouTube. This one avoids the overt McCain-Palin cheering section at the end and should be much more effective in persuading independents and fair-minded Democrats.
House Of Lies: How Congress Failed To Protect Our Economy
Please watch the clip, and if you like it, send an email to Allah, Ed, or Michelle to get this on the front page. If anybody reading this has Steve Schmidt’s email address, please send it to him. This is an argument that McCain needs to make in order to win on November 4th.

That’s not very nice. Why’s it gotta be like that?
tlynch001 on October 5, 2008 at 2:30 PM
I don’t know why she’s gotta be fugly. I do know that Fey is a nasty, hateful, jealous woman who is not very nice. Again, I don’t know why it’s gotta be like that.
bloggless on October 5, 2008 at 2:44 PM
I am glad to know that you’re thinking about me. I am also very glad I am not seen as stringy reed bending to easily to the party currents. I am unapologetic about the high standards to which I hold my party and its leaders. I hold out little hope of finding much parity with many Republicans on anything except the core principles of a fiscally conservative platform. Evangelicals, despite our shared faith tend to annoy me. When in doubt refer to the Constitution for my position.
You partisan slugs can sit around and circle jerk each other all day. Obviously, my feelings are totally hurt by the reference herein; I will have to nurse my ego with a walk to and along the beach. Really though, the fact that you mention me as one who contests the typical, tired, uninspired party line is great.
RE: ultimate insult
I’m guessing that the ultimate insult would be to suggest that you think, act and vote for yourself, free from the intoxicating elixir we know as Kool-Aid®.
The Race Card on October 5, 2008 at 2:48 PM
Second skit should have been the opener.
Fey as Palin: First time funny. Second time, 50% as funny. Third time. Well….. there was an intriguing rerun episode of “MythBusters” that competed for my interest.
kurtzz3 on October 5, 2008 at 2:50 PM
The Palin-Biden skit was hilarious!
The Pelosi-Bush-Frank-Soros skit was the kind of talk McCain should be doing. They’ve nailed it where he has avoided it. C’mon, John, do you want this or not???
MochaLite on October 5, 2008 at 3:00 PM
The second skit was hilarious. Who says SNL isn’t funny anymore?

Thanks for weighing in. I don’t know you well enough to discern if I agree or disagree with you but it is hard to imagine a person on either side of that coin 100% of the time exists. I am glad you won’t be losing any sleep, nor will I.

That second skit was one of the funniest things that I’ve seen on SNL in awhile.

Dang.

I think the American public are overpaying those we use to entertain us.
James OK on October 5, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Wow, SNL does a better job than most folks in the media. For those interested, Peggy Noonan has a pretty good article on this topic.
Send_Me on October 5, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Well, I missed the first skit, but tuned in right after the bailout skit started. I thought the Bailout thing was excellent. A LITTLE harder on President Bush than I would have been, but otherwise, spot on: And with the SNL pseudo-hip humor, maybe a few of the American
IdolIdle generation will finally start to grasp that there is more to the situation than Katie Couric tells them about.LegendHasIt on October 5, 2008 at 5:19 PM
It looks like Anne Hathaway was the Host that week.. that Actress is all class
Butt.. I would be amiss if I didn’t add This
DaveC on October 5, 2008 at 6:35 PM
You would think that SNL would figure out that a Reverend Wright spoof would be absolutely hilarious. Think of what they could do with that crap…
Let’s hope, anyway.
13Girl on October 5, 2008 at 6:45 PM
I thought Queen Latifah was awesome as Ifill - her part had me cracking up, as did the guy that did Biden. They only time Fey was really funny was with the drinking game bit at the end. The second skit had me laughing hard, especially with the deadbeats and Soros. It was more fair than I ever thought SNL could be in this day and age.
Not a big fan of Hathaway, but she did alright. Still, I won’t be tuning in to SNL any time soon.
Anna on October 5, 2008 at 6:52 PM
Man! Fey is so spot-on.
Opinionnation on October 5, 2008 at 7:05 PM
The link for the second skit doesn’t work anymore.
Mulligan on October 5, 2008 at 9:58 PM
So where are the Obama skits? Are they getting paid to do a one sided skit?
TheKernel on October 5, 2008 at 10:39 PM
I imagine all the writers at SNL aren’t particularly pleased at seeing $850B go down the toilet. Sure, they’ll rag Republicans almost exclusively when it is trivial stuff. Bush himself is comic gold, but when they know San Fran Nan and Dirty Barney have sold them down a river, they won’t hold back. Not even their writers are stupid enough to buy the Democrat talking points all the time, especially when it doesn’t add up.
Heck, I’m pissed at all of them too. Burn the lot of them.
BKennedy on October 6, 2008 at 1:02 AM
After watching GWB this last year or so, I am getting convinced that the portrayal of him by Jason Sedakis is closer to the truth than anyone would want to admit..
W. had a shining moment of brilliance by nominating Roberts and Alito.. but then, stopped clock blah blah..
I’m chalking that up to luck.
DaveC on October 6, 2008 at 9:04 AM
1st Skit: Didn’t nail Biden as much as Palin. It probably would have been funnier if they had the Biden character telling whoppers. Or, even if he just repeated the bit about being shot at (and maybe tied it to Hillary’s claim). The bit at the end with the drinking game was pretty funny. The rest of the Palin characterization was just condescending.
2nd Skit: I’m really not sure why they didn’t skewer Barney Frank there. He should have gotten a red-hot pitchfork up the backside type of skewering. The Soros part was hopefully a wake up call (note the “Democratic party owner”) to the party that they are bought and paid for. Pretty funny overall.
Geministorm on October 6, 2008 at 9:44 AM
Obombem is a follower, not a leader, he follows those who do not believe in the Constitution. If we follow this group in November the only ‘change’ we will experience is being taxed into servitude. Once you have been sucked dry you will find you have served their goal and cast aside as the great unwashed.
Libs cannot face the truth because they do not know what truth is because you cannot spend it or manipulate people with it, so it has no use in their campaign to create dependence on them for our existence.
They have SNL and the MSM to make you believe everything they say as the truth. At lease we have McCain with Palin as our Piper who will lead us to the light.
