“A similar blind spot toward the political ‘other’ explains much of the contempt for Palin. If she were a Democrat, her unusual life would be spun into a compelling narrative that would make her the darling of the coastal elite.
How she’s raising that lovely brood of kids, her care for that severely handicapped baby, her relationship with that rugged hubby who often cares for the kids and is part native, her unlikely rise through the political minefields, her tough knocks and gutsy performance on the national stage - all would be testament to a breakthrough of historic proportions we would be ordered to celebrate in the name of diversity and equality…
Some day, we will look back with disgust at the abuse Palin has taken and wonder how it could happen in this great nation, circa 2008.”

Good thing she can take it.
Go Sarah go.

And we will be looking back sooner, rather than later.
The polls are garbage, the McCain-Palin ticket is going to win this election “on the books” by at least 3 pts, but n reality it will be much greater than that because of all the voter fraud.
I can hardly wait to see John & Cindy move into the White House with Bridget, their sweet beautiful daughter, and for the Palins to move in the VP’s digs with their entire brood…I might even take a day off and fly to DC to watch the swearing in ceremony.

Breaking through stereotypes is never easy, and she’s busting up several. Not only on women, but also on the Republican brand, the popularity of the life issue, etc. It takes a tough person to continually drive on in the fact of all that. She’s is flat out tough. And she mobilizes people’s desire to defend her, as evidenced by myself.
Spirit of 1776 on October 5, 2008 at 10:09 PM
Yeah, and they “dismiss” that; as if it were a bad thing to not even consider the color of their skin, but rather the content of their character. Amazing blindness.

Rhetorical nonsense. Half this country hates her out of hand, most of the media too. Nothing will change if we don’t fight as hard and dirty as they do.

Here’s the point to be made
Sarah was born to give you fee-vah, be it Fahrenheit or Centigrade
She gives you fee-vah as you watch her at every turn
Fee-vah till you sizzle, oh what a lovely way to burn

I have to disagree. There was lots of genuine interest and excitement when she was picked and nobody had any exposure to her. Having heard her speak a number of times, and having looked at past speeches and interviews, I have to say she is fully unprepared for high office. We need competent government and she does not instill any confidence whatsoever. America needs someone of Thatcher’s ilk right now and Palin ain’t Maggie by any means. Maggie could think on her feet and engage the press… not run and hide for training. There are plenty of capable Republican women who could have made McCain’s choice of a woman more interesting to the public… especially independents and centrists who will drive this election result.
lexhamfox on October 5, 2008 at 10:14 PM
“Some day” Allah? Those of us who have any shred of decency are, at this moment, looking with disgust at the abuse this fine woman is taking and not a bit surprised that it is happening in 2008 - the year journalism died in the United States.

Sarah walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in her hand
She was only a girl but she knew
Someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail
Into valleys, into waters
Into jungles, into hell
Ride Sarah, take it to them again
With a story to tell
Into darkness, into danger
Into storms that rip the night
Don’t give in, don’t give up
But give thanks for the glorious fight
You can tremble, you can fear it
But keep your fighting spirit alive Sarah
Let the shiver of it sting you
Fling as into battle, spring to your feet Sarah
Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Hold your head even higher and into the fire you go
Tav on October 5, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Name me someone in Washington whom you’d consider competent? And keep in mind that our capitol, full of “competent” people just sat by and watched the economy of this country explode right before it - and apparently are uninterested in fixing what caused it.
lorien1973 on October 5, 2008 at 10:18 PM
I truly hope so.
As to the first quote, I ran into some old neighbors this weekend, democrats, but I’ve always liked and admired them. The wife saw my Sarah Palin button and started frothing. I said, incredulously, ‘you don’t like Sarah Palin eh?’ All I could get intelligible out of her was, “That woman…!” PDS strikes again. I’m always surprised when a democrat behaves this way. The party of tolerance my ass.

Spirit of 1776 on October 5, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Oh, so the only way to make the liberals happy would have been for Bush to say, “looky here, we need a black SecState to make us ‘look like America,’ so go find one.”
That must mean the only reason liberals support Osama Obama is because he’s black.
Racist fools!
MrScribbler on October 5, 2008 at 10:20 PM
That in a nutshell explains it.
The so-called objective media justifies their spinning for the Dems because in their minds the Dems are not just a political party, but the standard bearer of true ideas, while only dumb people could vote Republican.

Liberals have their eye on the ball. They are all for winning. Period. They will toss any principle out the window to win. There are many that believe you fight by the rules. I grew up like that… John Wayne, cowboys, good guys. Let the other guy swing first. Let the guy in the black hat draw first. All nice principles to stand on. I’ve come around a bit. When we are faced with folks that cannot and will not be reasoned with, what do you do? I know most folks think terrorists are not to be bargained with because they only want one thing and won’t listen to any reason. Fine. Now name me one single leftist moonbat that is any different. They will not be reasoned with. They will not admit where they may be wrong… even when confronted with overwhelming evidence. The difference between the two is what?
I just watched a very interesting video from another thread here where a former KGB agent discusses the process. Watch it and see if you see any similarities.

I asked my friend who despises Sarah Palin why. He couldn’t really tell me except that Palin was a former beauty queen.
Then I asked if he considered the implications of what he just said. Dead silence. So I told him. His supposition therein is that a woman cannot be intelligent and beautiful. In fact, he implies that beauty and intelligence are mutually exclusive properties in a woman. Then I asked him which one I am - Pretty? or Smart? And promptly warned him that either answer would result in him getting my 3 inch heel up his arse so he better reconsider his perspective on beauty and smarts in a woman.
Needless to say, he hasn’t spoken to me in a few days. I may have scared him…..

Okay. I don’t think I’ve ever read him before, but I did find the content interesting. Particularly this: So what played to this audience? What caused genuine applause? Well, one line, in particular: near the end of her twenty-minute speech, Sarah Palin told the audience that out on the hustings one comment from supporters has dominated, in frequency, all others: tell people about the real Barack Obama.

The fact that she is pissing off the left so much is such a scrumptious bonus that I don’t even care who wins this election. (well, almost ;) Palin coming onto the national scene and eliciting all of this vile hatred has made this a win for me already, only because it makes me hopeful.
I would hope the events over the last month or so would help some of the people who are filled with rage and hate examine their own beliefs and figure out how to be happier individuals. That is my hope and what Sarah Palin represents to me in the context of national politics.
We only have one go round on this rock…why waste time being miserable?
Sarah Palin is a healer without even trying to be and it’s because the feminism of the left is a diseased mess both morally and politically.

Sarah is the only member of Team McCain that apparently recognizes that liberal means loser. Obama can easily be characterized as liberal. The only counter to such an argument would be calling Sarah a conservative and does not pack the same political punch with undecideds.

AP, this is the same thing we see every four years, just raised to another level of intensity. The narrative has been Bush 43 is stupid, Bob Dole is an angry old-man, Bush 41 was out of touch, Reagan was a doddering old B-movie actor, etc. Somehow, the American people see through the media filter almost every time and make the right choice. Sarah Palin is the most genuine, exciting politician to come around in a long-time. I truly believe when it comes down to it, the American people will do the right thing.
The last winning Democrat to get over 50% of the popular vote was Jimmy Carter 32 years ago, the first election I voted in. Bill Clinton won with 43 and 49% of the vote. People are not going to overwhelmingly vote for an inexperienced, racist, terrorist-enabling, Chicago-machine politician with a whiny wife over a true American hero with a VP that represents the best of our American frontier experience.

Don’t bother. Unless you have connections you will never get close enough to the Prez, whether it’s McCain or Obama.
I work in DC. In 2004 the Secret Service and the DC Police erected 20-foot iron fences along a two-block perimeter around the capitol and the parade route. You had to have a ticket to be allowed inside the fence — after an airport-style search. Tickets were free but they were distributed by the Bush campaign. (Had Kerry won, it would have been his people handing out the tickets, of course.)
Lines to get past security were so long, even people with tickets who didn’t show up hours ahead of time didn’t get through the checkpoints until after the Presidential limo had driven by.
You’ll see a lot more on TV.

I have no vote, I am merely a UK citizen (but ex-RAF and my Dad was Aussie). Please excuse a long post, I don’t post often.
I have followed US elections since the Kennedy election of 1960.
I have NEVER seen anything like the venom, the spite, the outright libel that Sarah Palin has faced. Including (would you ever guess) from the BBC.
It really has made me sick to my stomach - I have daughters who are Governor Palin’s age. When I have challenged this awful stuff, eg on BBC blogsites, it has been laughed off.
FUNNY ? What is funny about implying incest, about alleging that Trig is actually Bristol’s baby… and all the rest?
Like I say - sick to my stomach. I feel sick even writing about it now.
From this side of the pond - the fix is well in place with the BBC. I just heard the BBC World Service main headline - Palin is under the Troopergate investigation. What on earth makes that top world news headline ? No mention whatsoever of the Palin accusations about Bill Ayers. Obviously just a pre-emptive smear job.
For you guys over there - we are forced under law to pay $200 a year to the BBC - penalty = gaol. The BBC is required under Royal Charter to be even-handed, neutral in its news coverage.
It is TOTALLY in the tank for Obama. If you know folks who watch the BBC as “anodyne” news - tell them that millions of Brits hate the BBC bias. And remind them that our troops threw the BBC channel off HMS Ark Royal just bwefore the Iraq conflict.
I remember the good days of the BBC. The Alastair Cooke days.
For a glimpse of BBC bias - try this or the BBC North America Editor’s blog, track back over the last 2 weeks’ entries :

So the man does something you like, and your response is to insult and belittle him?
GET A GRIP ON YOURSELF AND STOP WITH THE MDS UNTIL THE ELECTION.
You only have to exercise self control for 3 weeks.

Think how formidable Sarah‘s
and Michelle’skids are going to be when they grow up and take charge.Fixed it. Given their parentage, I supect Michelle’s kids will inherit their mother’s bitterness and their father’s prima donna sense of entitlement.

There are surely 2 prongs of the fork to dig into Obama :
1 His creepy, anti-American associations right through his life. How come he writes an autobiography but never mentioned he worked with Bill Ayers to “invest” £100 million ? Anyone here spent $100 million and forgot about it ?
2 The really heavy case - pin the financial collapse on Fannie Mae and the Dems
