Video: Dick Morris rips Alan Colmes for being Alan Colmes, basically

posted at 11:07 am on October 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

Proof positive that not everything he says is wrong. Just almost everything.

Exit question in which I’m fairer to Colmes than he’d be to me: Is AC really the worst offender here among the dynamic duo in terms of spewing talking points? “Sarah Palin’s shock and awe”? C’mon.

Blowback

Dick “Toe-Sucker” Morris came across as O’Reilly, just shorter and fatter.

originalpechanga on October 3, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Actually a good analogy for Sarah vs Joe is Hannity vs Colmes with obviously Sarah in the Hannity role.

meci on October 3, 2008 at 11:10 AM

Not to mention the middle class doesn’t make minimum wage.

lodge on October 3, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Dick, thanks for eating Alan Colmes starting with his toes and brains.

Mcguyver on October 3, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Actually, I thought that Hannity should have defended Colmes. After the Morris insult, Hannity should have said something along the lines of, I believe Alan is a highly intelligent man and I’m honored to have him as a sparring partner.

And, in answer to the exit question, Hannity was particularly hyperbolic during this segment. That’s okay if Colmes gets something like equal time, but last night he didn’t.

Is AC really the worst offender here among the dynamic duo in terms of spewing talking points?

No, but he’s definitely the most annoying. And he’s a big fat liar to boot.

Not that I don’t think Colmes is an idiot, mind you.

I laughed so hard after Morris’ rant. He ripped Skeletor a new one.

jencab on October 3, 2008 at 11:13 AM

Colmes is grasping, he got himself in a twitter over this and was reduced to whining like a biotch.

I wonder what his pitiful blog will say today?

Alan Clomes is bitch slapped and owned!

grapeknutz on October 3, 2008 at 11:14 AM

I get the impression Morris doesn’t like Colmes, for some reason…

cyclosarin on October 3, 2008 at 11:14 AM

Ordinarily I’d try to be fair to Colmes, but when he posted a blog blaming Trig Palin’s Down’s Syndrome on Sarah getting on an airplane and then tried to whitewash his ignorance as evidence of Republican mean-spiritedness, I’ve decided he no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Colmes wasn’t asking Morris a question…he was taking part in Obama Spin Room machinations.

JohnTant on October 3, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Morris is an ass, but he knows candidates and what appeal they have.
Hannity can have talking points because Palin was effective…Colmes was defending his losing talking points, when you lose, you lose, eat a little crow.
“unbelievable performance” was a great put down.

right2bright on October 3, 2008 at 11:15 AM

The real question about that subject was:

Judelaw

EXACTLY right. We KNOW Alan is a liberal sycophant, just as Hannity is on the conservative side. THAT’s what the show is about Hannity AND Colmes and Hannity did a disservice to the show and to his partner here.

Even if he didn’t MEAN it…he should have stood up for Alan Colmes.

I’ve never seen Morris get this worked-up on any of the Fox shows. I guess Colmes’ idiotic response to Morris put Morris over the edge. It seemed he got personally insulted by Colmes’ attitude and let him have it. It was definitely awkward.

kyarnes on October 3, 2008 at 11:19 AM

I think Morris was offended that AC was treating him like some of the Repubs that was on the show. Morris sees himself as Fox News contributor not just a “regular” guest. He told AC to save the the talking points for you other guests.

ManlyRash on October 3, 2008 at 11:20 AM

I saw this. I had it on in the background and immediately stopped and focused on the exchange. Dick Morris was genuinely angry and I felt like he expressed the frustration I feel any time Colmes opens his mouth. I mean, he’s even stupider and less able to keep on topic than most liberals.

The thing that made this particularly dumb on Colmes’ part was that he just rotely responded to Morris as if he were talking to a conservative pundit. Morris is not that. Just because he has a healthy disdain for the Clintons does not mean that he is pro-Republican.

Moxie on October 3, 2008 at 11:20 AM

I’m not a big fan of Morris, but I listen to him when he comes on the show. I saw this live last night and started screaming at the TeeVee, “Get him Morris…slap him again!”

Priceless. Man he was PO’d.

This, in miniature, is the Obama Way: muzzle those who disagree by any means possible, and ensure that only the Word of The Messiah is heard.

It’d be funny if it hadn’t become frightening.

MrScribbler on October 3, 2008 at 11:26 AM

Fletch54 on October 3, 2008 at 11:26 AM

I think what sent The Toe over the edge was the fact that Skeletor was speaking what sounded like talking points from the Left against McCain’s voting record. And the fact that what Skeletor was trying to assert was so in error, and blatantly false that it grated on The Toe’s nerves. Here is hoping that McCain gets that exercised when he debates THE MANCHILD!

It is rather annoying each and every night Alan does seem to just recite the Left’s talking points, and does not ever seem to listen or process what those from the opposite side are trying to tell him. If he wanted to criticize Palin last night for rote memorization, and spewing talking points, he should watch his own show every once in a while because he does the same thing every night.

I thought the whole thing was hilarious. Especially right after O’Reilly went off on Frank.

Shock and Awe didn’t bother me, but Ronald Reagan? But all of this was nothing compared to Hannity’s bullying interrogation of Nina Easton the other night, which was truly embarrassing, and I say that as a Hannity fan.

backwoods conservative on October 3, 2008 at 11:31 AM

This was worth staying up late for. I find it delicious to see a former Clinton adviser, odd as he is, slapping Colmes around.

Next question: where’s the clip of Hannity going after that Wasserman-hyphenated member of Congress from Florida? Normally, Hannity it a totally unprepared tool. But this time he actually seemed prepared, and he made her admit that she didn’t know something that was the key to their discussion. I loved it…though I confess I loathe her.

BuckeyeSam on October 3, 2008 at 11:31 AM

Sure Colmes is an a-hole; Du-uh!

But Colmes does this ALL THE TIME. And Bill Morris KNOWS THAT as well as anyone does. I’m not going back and reviewing tapes, but is this really the first time Colmes ever did it to Dick Morris? I don’t remember Morris getting special immunity. (Except of course for the times when he said something liberal.) So why was this different.

This was no act. The look in Morris’ eyes; he was on the verge of hysteria.

Was it just his time of the month? Or do you think maybe Morris is (along with the rest of the country) becoming personally attached to Sarah Palin.

Seriously, I can never be sure whether Morris loves or hates Hillary Clinton – or both. But she has clearly always been his Queen Bee.

Do you think Morris is now hooked on another set of pheromones?

Dick Morris is dead on,accurate, this is the real

It was Governor Sarah Palin Slaughting(can I call you Joe?)
Bidengaffe, and the Whole Lib MSM have absolutely lost it!!

Why!

Because all the Leftys,MSM,DNC thought they painted SaraCuda
with DIRECT help from the media,as an idiot in the pass few
weeks!!

But it backfired, the whole left said,THE DEBATE WILL DEFINE
SARAH,and she won hands down,Biden got schooled, the MSM
have a problem on their hands, its not what they expected!!!`

What the MSM will learn, that 2 months of media savagery by
the Liberal Hit Teams, are not going to take the 45 years of
trials and tribulations of the character building fortitude
of SarahCuda from the great State of Alaska!!

CookeyD on October 3, 2008 at 11:36 AM

To me, the difference between H and C is that Hannity has an ideology and believes it. Colmes on the other hand, has varying ideological stances dependent upon the news of the day and who’s on what side.

I can understand why Morris was upset, Colmes WAS reading talking points prepared and circulated by the Obama campaign. Colmes does this often, not engaging the guest and their statements, but rather with a prepared set of statements without contextual adjustment or even sometimes relevance to the discussion at hand.

Key to the moment was that he was supposed to be interviewed about HIS views on the debate… not on McCain who was not even there.

Colmes started the Dem talking point chant, which had NOTHING to do with the subject of the interview.

One problem with Jounalism today, is the amount of extraneous material they bring into an article or interview… they use it as a conduit for a viewpoint, instead of an investigation of an issue or fact.

Good on Morris for calling the MSM on this.

Danish,

Go back and watch Reagan’s first national level debate. While they differ in style, Palin’s ability to connect with the camera (and by extension the viewer) is very similar to Reagan’s.

Palin has the ability to be a good student of the great communicator, it seems she has a natural talent for it.

Jason Coleman on October 3, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Morris was correct, this time. Sarah is a rising star and Morris sees her potential and how she talked directly to Americans and convinved them she is not part of the problem in Washington.

Even if McCain blows this election, Sarah now has a political future on the national level if she pursues it. Dick sees Sarah as a charismatic person who could be a great leader.

I would not be surprised to see her back in the Republican Primary in 2012 after we have a miserable socialistic Obama single term.

She will come as Reagan preaching that big government is the problem, and she’ll be correct. She will run as a smaller government, fiscal conservative and try to undue what 4 years of Obama created.

If Obama wins, the Republican Party must unite and effectively replace all the old deadwood in the Party and reorganize with youth, energy, unity, focusing on limited federal government, fiscal responsibility, and good ideas for helping with healthcare and growing the economy in a healthy way without these dangerous bubbles developing from stupid regulation.

After a tough Obama 4 years, does anybody think that a Palin/Jindal ticket would be formidable?

I do.

The discussion was supposed to be about Sarah Palin’s (or Joe Biden’s) DEBATE PERFORMANCE. Colmes dissed Morris’ comments entirely. He should have engaged Morris on his reaction to Biden. Instead Colmes went off reading a sheet of Obama campaign talking points about McCAIN! McCain wasn’t part of last night’s debate. Colmes deserved everything he got.

How often do conservatives get to have a little fun on news shows.

Dick Morris getting up in Colmes’ grill for his use of talking points? That’s rich. Hannity is the human talking point. Even if he doesn’t get his talking points from somewhere else, he repeats the same laundry list of liberal misdeeds on every radio and TV show.

I don’t fault him for his views, but he’s so repetitive. He’s like a politician giving a stump speech in city after city. It’s like he has this list, that he goes back to all the time. No other radio talk show host dose that. Don’t regular listeners find it monotonous?

Palin has the ability to be a good student of the great communicator, it seems she has a natural talent for it.

Sure she does, but her way of formulating sentences is nothing like Ronald Reagan’s. Take her answer on global warming, for instance – I’m quite certain that Reagan’s answer would have been far more direct. I just think it’s premature to put her in a league with Reagan at this point in time.

Why would he beat up on Nina, her husband works for Republican campaigns. He worked on McCain’s until he had to downsize and then on Romney’s.

I know it! She didn’t answer a question the way he wanted her to and he started yelling at her and demanding that she answer it a certain way. Fortunately this is not how Hannity usually conducts himself.

Hannity’s a chach most of the time, but AC is just annoying.

I did love his radio program back in the day, though. “Why you bitter?” Lulz.

Morris stepped over the line by insulting Colmes’ intelligence. He should have just said “look, the minimum debate didn’t come up in the debate, let’s focus on what we actually saw tonight.” If Colmes persisted, he may have been justified in criticizing him with the talking points line. But saying “is it that you can’t think or you can just read talking points” was over the line and I agree that Hannity should have backed Morris down a bit.

As for Morris’s political leanings, I think he genuinely is a centrist. However, he has a personal hatred of the Clintons that clouds his judgment (at least as long as the Clintons are in the picture).

Maybe we all just need to get into the spirit of Halloween. To get us in the “proper frame of mind”, maybe H&C should have Morose…er, I mean Morris on the show everyday until October 31st.

My collie says:

They should rename the show to “The ghoul, the bad, and the ugly.”

Hmmm. If they added one more panelist, they could compete directly with “The View”.
