Video: Biden says “No coal plants in America”

Joe Biden tried mightily to reverse course from a comment made at a rally in Ohio, in which he said he opposed clean-coal plants in America. He claimed in the debate that the rope-line comments were taken “out of context”, but he sounded categorical in his opposition to new coal plants of any kind in the US, as this video demonstrates.

“We’re not supporting clean coal.”

“No coal plants here in America.  Build them if they’re going to build them over there.  Make them clean.”

Those are very definitive statements, not taken at all out of context.  Biden was talking about exporting the technology to China, but also opposed very clearly the use of that technology in the US.  In other words, Biden wants to help China create jobs in energy, but keep Americans from finding work in that same sector.

Those are his words.  He may want to disavow that now, but that was what he said on that rope line in Ohio.

Biden doesn’t mean it when he contradicts himself. He doesn’t take himself that seriously, and neither should we.

JiangxiDad on October 3, 2008 at 2:12 PM

They need to play this over and over again in WV, PA, OH, and even in ND and MT, since they have found the largest coal vein ever in ND and MT in the last year and the dem guv of MT is actually in strong favor of clean coal

ConservativePartyNow on October 3, 2008 at 2:12 PM

there you go again Joe, Last night its clean coal today it’s not….He was for clean coal before he was against it?

robo on October 3, 2008 at 2:13 PM

Out of context. Dear god – does he even know what the phrase means?

lodge on October 3, 2008 at 2:13 PM

What does it matter?

Obama-Biden are the “Free Eazy Pass” team.

Barry gets a pass because the media is in a committed sexual relationship with him.

Greasy Joe gets a pass because…….well……….he’s Greasy Joe. They call them Bidenisms for a reason.

It’s hard to be upbeat after we’ve been sold down the river.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 3, 2008 at 2:14 PM

Being against clean coal technology is absolutely irresponsible in this energy dependent world. I work on the front lines of this technology and know a thing or two about why it’s so different than previous coal-energy operations. Biden’s ass-ertion that he just said something about China and didn’t say he was against it as a whole is fibbing.

On an interesting note, Michael Savage’s listeners apparently think Biden won the debate in a landslide. Either that or the poll got hijacked.

NTWR on October 3, 2008 at 2:14 PM

“No coal plants over here in America”.

What more can you say??? Joe?

HarryStar on October 3, 2008 at 2:15 PM

So he had a Joe Biden moment. What’s the big deal?

Abby Adams on October 3, 2008 at 2:16 PM

Out of context means “I am not saying that right now”.

right2bright on October 3, 2008 at 2:16 PM

Team McCain blows at driving narratives so what they should just keep it simple… show footage of campaign statement… show footage of a contradiction… focus on the contradictions… you have got to twist your opponent in pretzels…

ninjapirate on October 3, 2008 at 2:16 PM

American’s don’t need clean coal power.

American’s don’t need oil.

American’s don’t need nukes.

Look how Obama’s brother is living. That’s what he has in store for America.

I can’t wait until I get a hut!

cntrlfrk on October 3, 2008 at 2:16 PM

He’ll say anything to anyone to get anything he wants

DaveC on October 3, 2008 at 2:17 PM

In this case. Biden told the truth….

During the debate, he lied.

Kini on October 3, 2008 at 2:18 PM

How the hell do they get away with this?? Every single journalist should be stripped of his bad. Biden isn’t stretching the truth. He LIED. Many, many times!!

jimmy the notable on October 3, 2008 at 2:20 PM

That is totally unfair, using his words against him. This is Joe Biden, after all, a/k/a The Gaffematic 3000.

rbj on October 3, 2008 at 2:20 PM

“Out of context” translates into Real English as , “I lied; so what?”

Janos Hunyadi on October 3, 2008 at 2:21 PM

They need to play that clip over and over in western PA.

Don’t forget Virginia. The southwestern part of the state contains many coal-mining towns. And many of the people who live in those towns are patriotic Democrats who are somewhat suspicious of Obama because of his connections to people like Wright and Ayers.

AZCoyote on October 3, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Why bother?

The Obamabots don’t care about anything other than Obama has more skin pigment then McCai. The McCain folks know all about Obama and Biden, and undecideds are either brain-dead or aren’t going to vote.

VolMagic on October 3, 2008 at 2:29 PM

Out of context. Dear god – does he even know what the phrase means?

He meant to say “literally”.

MayBee on October 3, 2008 at 2:31 PM

I’m beginning to think he and the Obamanation are such douchebags, they just don’t remember or care what they say! What with the media willingly ignoring every mistake, misstep and outright lie, can you blaim them? Sarah misspronounces a word, and its 24hrs of jokes and footage. Bidem claims that Hezbollah was kicked out of Lebanon (utter lie), and narry a word.

I’m jumping in my Futurama cold sleep chamber and punching up 2012, maybe things will look better this time four years from now.

Why ISN’T this and ad yet? It boggles my mind that they aren’t playing this in some of these battleground states…

DaveC on October 3, 2008 at 2:17 PM

LOL!! That was his best gaffe ever IMO.

The bottom line is that these jerks can say whatever they want because journalsim as envisioned by the founding fathers is now dead. I think it has been dead for a while now, but the smell is really starting to get bad at this point. I actually have a friend who is a TV anchorman, and he talks about integrity and being balanced, and I do believe him… at least I believe that he actually thinks he is trying to be fair and balanced in his job. The problem is that the institution of journalism has an agenda, and they will allow nothing and nobody to deter the message from that agenda. This is one of the biggest reasons that walking maggot-farms like Joe Biden can and do get away with lying again and again in a way that would have made Jefferson or Franklin or Adams physically ill. The free press that was supposed to hold them accountable is now corrupt, and the only check left against the politicians who can’t tell the truth is the people themselves. It is getting close to the time that open revolt may be the only recourse we have left. I hope that we can turn this around before the USA gets to that point!

AND IN OTHER NEWS:

“SYDNEY, Australia – A 7-year-old boy broke into a popular Outback zoo, fed a string of animals to the resident crocodile and bashed several lizards to death with a rock, the zoo’s director said Friday.” – AP

Mr_Magoo on October 3, 2008 at 2:35 PM

Joe the Mouth says;

I’m for clean coal, and safe nuclear power.

But when he’s in the Senate, he constantly maintains that

There is no such thing as clean coal.

No nuclear power is ever safe.

His actual thought processes are;

I’ll always have what I want, because I’m a Leader.

And I want a future in which I’m the only one with electric lights.

As for you peasants; F*** Off. Back to your huts. And if I catch you trying to heat them in the winter, with anything, I will make you pay.

Welcome to the Brave New World, Atlas Shrugged Edition.

Don’t forget your sweater.

My guess is seepage of the botulinum toxin (aka BoTox) injected into his melon to take away the wrinkles on his forehead.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 3, 2008 at 2:39 PM

I’m sure that CNN/ABC/CBS/NBC/MSNBC/CNBC will lead with Biden gaffes today. Any. Minute. Now.

More likely scenario: Biden runs around screaming “Snakes! Get ‘em off me!” and the press would discuss how Joe understands the discomfort that many Americans feel around reptiles, which proves he’s clearly ready for primetime.

I’ll admit: I like Joe, even when I disagree with him. But this walking talking gaffe machine of a foreign policy advisor is supposed to walk a socialistic political naif through tough times ahead? Assuming that the people vote for this, I will simply say that we chose…poorly.

Physics Geek on October 3, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Ahh.

Joe Biden, double-talking scum bucket as always.

Ryan Gandy on October 3, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Obama and Biden will say anything to anyone at anytime.

Who’s going to call them on it? The media?

Please.

If Republicans call them on it, the media will either say they’re lying or that “Republicans do it too.”

Media referees have a coin with two heads on it, Democrats always get to call it and they always pick ‘heads’.

Just goes to show how incompetent Democrats really are. Even with the playing field tilted entirely in their favor along with their multi-million dollar effort aimed at stealing votes, Democrats still blow election after election.

NoDonkey on October 3, 2008 at 2:53 PM

I believe the more damaging statements by Biden are the ones that relate directly to Oslime-a.

On the job training
vote against funding the troops
etc, etc, etc.

Then hammer Oslime-a on his own record.

Troops bombing villages and civilians…AND they should make the comparison to Murtha’s claims and how he is proven wrong.

The baby killer vote

Meeting with dictators

Increased taxes

Increased spending

If Biden lies in the forest and the MSM doesn’t call him on it, is it a lie?

You’re right. Undecideds will ruin this country. These are statistically the stupidest people on the planet, as they sway wherever the media machine tells them to.

leetpriest on October 3, 2008 at 3:46 PM

Did I hear correctly last night when Biden said he thought Judges shouldn’t only be able to adjust interest terms on mortgage loans, but also the principle amount to keep people in their homes?

Did anyone hear that, or was I dreaming?

thequeball on October 3, 2008 at 3:52 PM

As Glenn Beck would say:

Who’s the good wittle Senator? YOU are! Yes you ARE! Yes you ARE!”

Tony737 on October 3, 2008 at 4:07 PM

It’s shocking (well not really but go with me) that the media doesn’t give a crap that biden and barry regularly say stupid things. Look at what Harry Reid did to the insurance industry with some offhand remark. Words matter, especially when you’re the leader of the free world. If these jokers get into office then they had better become more aware of what comes out of their mouths. The good of the country will literally depend on it.

hump1201 on October 3, 2008 at 5:06 PM

Ifill was bending over backwards in this clip to help Biden. Sarah had just creamed him with Drill Baby Drill.

Steveangell on October 3, 2008 at 5:10 PM

I found it hilarious that last night Biden said that he hasn’t changed in the thirty-five years he’s been in office. Given his track record (plagiarism, fabrication, etc.), that’s not a good thing at all.

Andrew D on October 3, 2008 at 5:15 PM

So many comments, so few buzz ups. Please people don’t forget to buzz the story if you like it. The button is right there at the end of every post. The Huffs and other Dem sites are dominating social sites like digg, yahoo buzz and technorati. We should change that.

arma_virumque on October 3, 2008 at 5:56 PM

To those who don’t know what the big deal is…the big deal is that Biden is a dishonest human being. If he and Obama had their way the people who work all over this country in coal would lose their livelihood and the people all over this country would have no heating from coal.

These views are not limited to coal. The don’t really want an energy solution for America. Did you hear any questions by the (add snicker here) unbiased Ifill that helped you know anything about how Biden will help our energy needs? Nope, that would have helped Governor Palin since she knows how to put a plan together.

SayWhat on October 3, 2008 at 6:37 PM

Just more Democratic ‘nuance’.

As for Biden not changing after 35 years, ISN’T HIS FREAKIN’ CAMPAIGN ABOUT CHANGE?

Just more “nuance”.

GarandFan on October 3, 2008 at 7:03 PM

I’m working on a list of Biden gaffes at my blog. Here’s what I came up with so far.
Most of these gaffes in the last six weeks!

Hillary better qualified
opposed AIG bailout while BO for it
called Palin “Lt. Gov.”
called BO “Barack America”
Delaware/Ohio football taunt
clean coal
plagiarizing Kinnock
copter “forced down”
“stand up!”
BO first clean, articulate Black
7/11–Indian accent
“my IQ higher”
FDR/TV/in 1929
“George McCain”
shot at BO’s “terrible” anti-McCain ad
Biden will be “President”
