Palin: We shouldn’t pull out of Michigan

posted at 2:35 pm on October 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

Parts one and two of a day-long series with Carl Cameron. I admire her pluck but there’s no sense spending her precious time on a lost cause, which Michigan appears to be. If the ‘Cuda wants to commune with blue-collar voters and start a little Palinmania brushfire, the place to do it is Ohio or Minnesota.

Exit question: Hey, how about a Malkin/Palin interview? It can happen if you only wish it.

No way is Palin going to win back the Detroit crackhead vote.

saint kansas on October 3, 2008 at 2:42 PM

I was in the UAW for thirteen years and I think if the Palins toured the plants and actually talked to the people that work there they would be impressed. Todd Palin couldn’t be any more blue collar, get him up there. Maybe McCain could give them a week or so and see if they get any momentum?

On Michigan though, if it’s lost it’s lost. It’s hard to think that a state which has been driven into the ground by Democrats would vote a Democrat into office. Sigh.

But McCain is. Unless, and until, he ties the credit mess to the Dems, he’s lost. National security is at the back of everyone’s mind. Talking non-stop about earmarks and raising taxes on people making $200,000 isn’t getting him anywere. McCain needs to show how liberal stupidity got us in this mess. But he won’t. Apparently, the arguments are too complex for him to master.

Former Michigander, here.

It’s sad to see what has happened to my (former) home. I grew up in Saginaw which had been a thriving city back in the day because of timber and then automobiles. The last time I was home, many parts of the city looked like a ghost town.

Folks, ACORN already been caught committing fraud in Michigan. They have other ways of scaring people into voting for the Dumbocrats. Check what the crapweasels are trying now…..

Lose Your House, Lose Your Vote Michigan Republicans plan to exclude African-American voters

I find it hard to take any alleged journalist with a first name of Eartha (other than Kitt) seriously.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on October 3, 2008 at 2:54 PM

Palin’s tour should be:

A North tour (roughly 8 days): Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire. Then a swing down south (2 days): Florida, North Carolina, Virginia. Then head out west for a few (3) days: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado.

So that would be her next 2 weeks. After that send her back up north and to VA and NC. Basically, McCain will hold the south (excepting maaaybe VA), and if Iowa is lost, they should at least make an attempt at flipping some of the northern states. Maine and NH are within reach. Wisconsin is lost, I’m afraid. Minnesota (and, yes, Michigan) are still possibilities.

She needs to get out there!

Abby Adams on October 3, 2008 at 2:54 PM

I wish it. I want her to go to Michigan. Even if it is just a stop. I don’t live anywhere near that state but I just feel so bad for them. I wish the would be bold and vote for something other than a Democrat.

Where’s the Couric bashing? The videos don’t work for me. This is a woman who’s only journalistic claim to fame is having a large tube shoved up her butt on national television — twice. Obviously, j-school prepared her well.

I totally agree about local media. I remember during the primary hearing Sen. Clinton on local radio here in Texas because some networks were too busy being going gaga over Obama. She won Texas. Although, her wins in Texas and Ohio came to late in hindsight.

And I’m sure local television and radio stations would love to be part of the presidential race.

McCain lost all his momentum, wasted the very last of it by supporting the biggest pork project ever. The left will never like him, the border folks barely tolerate him and now he can’t even play like he’s fiscally responsible. Even Palin can’t pull this campaign out of the nosedive it’s in now. National security, listen to Obama and drone, they’re only 2 degrees off of what McCain is. Now the left knows they’re lying or code pink would be all over them but notice they’re not.

Blake on October 3, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Why can’t we just get more of these, from both sides. Carl is not a “gotcha” guy, steady as they come. He will get the info he needs, and thus so will we.
Candidates answer so much better when they don’t have to be “on guard”, and that goes for both sides.

upinak on October 3, 2008 at 2:40 PM

Malkin was dribbling all over herself last night playing giddy cheerleader for Palin.

Made me wonder what Malkin’s agenda really is, seeing that she loses no opportunity to snark at McCain. I would half-expect her to start goading Palin to emphasize her differences with McCain, which might appeal to Malkin’s relatively small base but would give the MSM an unholy amount of free ammunition.

Personally, I think Palin needs to get good TV exposure more than she needs ‘net presence. Malikn, and by extension HA, are, much as we like to read and comment along with the posts, pretty marginal in the overall scheme of things.

What Palin has to realize, is the yes her answer on immigration may not be liked by Malkin, but not every candidate has every “right” answer.
You weigh them as a whole…like Clinton said, the one issue may out weigh the other four, or vice versa, it is a personal choice. But can only be made if we know what each candidate really believes.
No doubt, if the press was not so antagonistic, we would even know more about Obama. But the press suppresses the real information, because of this “gotcha” sound bite mentality.

I very enthusiastically wish it! Make it so!

And completely OT but I didn’t see any other topic that was important… well let me ask first…

Can we have a topic about the Conservative movie “An American Carol”?

Mrs. B and I went to the very first showing right after lunch and just got back. It was MUCH better than I expected it to be. Go see it. It’s well worth the price of admission and I can almost guarantee you will enjoy yourself.

But you know how they show a gazillion trailers before the main feature? This time they showed only two. Guess which two they showed.

The first one was the oliver stone film “W.”, with a red period, don’t cha know. And the second one was an upcoming movie about Richard Nixon and David Frost’s interview back after Watergate.

Yep. Agenda much, hollywierd?

Anyway, “An American Carol” has a lot of laughs in it and several times the audience in the theater where we were got vocal. It was fun! Go support some brave Conservatives who are taking a very real risk by participating in this film. I want to see a LOT more movies like this.

Sorry for the OT. Carry on.

Allah admires her pluck but he figures they should just give up on Michigan, even though they were competitive here just 2 weeks ago. Far be it from me to argue with Allah, who I am sure is far more knowledgeable than me, I have only lived in Michigan all of my 50 years on this earth. The Reagan Democrats in Macomb County were starting to get excited about Palin, the only reason they have dropped here is they haven’t tried hard enough. We have a terrible Dem governor and we just had a major scandal with the Detroit Mayor, Romney also could have been used as he still carries weight here.

McCain had a better shot at Michigan than anyone, but hey, lets just concede this thing, the pundits seem to know better. I mean we know they have been right about everything already. The read 2 paragraphs about a state race and declare it over.

I tend to agree, but what happens if her and Todd, with family go up there and begin to turn the tide? What happens to the rest of the nation when it finds out she really does connect to the common person?
And what happens when we find out, that may have been the plan. Internal polling could show that they heavily connect with Palin and family, and not with McCain.
Could it happen? It may be worth a few days of campaigning to find out. And if the polls begin to shift, what does Obama do…panic.

alwyr on October 3, 2008 at 3:32 PM

Hugh Hewitt follow-up after the debate said that McCain’s crazy not to put Palin on a loop circuit of talk-radio host interviews, none less than 30-minute.

We ALL have been wondering why McCain has been keeping Palin under wraps yet forcing interviews with the very Couric that conservatives detest, and that liberals don’t like either. Couric has the lowest ratings of ANYONE. People actually HATE Couric. The only advantage to sending Palin to be interviewed by Couric would be to boost Couric’s career, as people DO WANT to meet and know Palin. So why the hell did Couric get to interview Palin?

maverick muse on October 3, 2008 at 3:33 PM

Michigan is totally gone. Like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and likely Ohio. These states are now bluer than blue and (like New York, Massachusetts, California, and Illinois) will be so forever more.

I just knew that any group of people that RE-ELECTED an absolute asshole, corrupt to the core, like Granholm, in the middle of her catastrophic one-state depression, would never go for McCain/Palin. And just look at the seeping chancre that is Detroit! If THAT isn’t enough to get people to flee the donk party, nothing on earth will save them! McCain/Palin never had a chance.

The sad fact is that there are just too damn many dumbass members of the jackass party, union members all, in Michigan. The state is now populated with the worthless detritus that remains after the exodus of all of their productive people to greener pastures, caused by their long-standing, never-ending, Democrat-driven decline. There is just no basis for any hope for a positive future in Michigan.

And, if Hussein gets elected, which looks likely, expect to witness the Detroitification of America, which will happen very quickly! This country will become like Zimbabwe, Sudan, and Beirut! Count on it!
