Breaking: Bailout vote underway; Update: 218; Update: 263-171

Magic Eightball says all signs point to yes, with both Hoyer and Blunt expressing “confidence.” If it fails, we’re likely looking at the Dow falling off a cliff and calls for Pelosi to quit.
A sweaty, panicky blogger chambers a single round and waits for the paddles to hit an economy in cardiac arrest…
Update: The vote’s not done yet but they’re already at 231. Unless a swath of members switch to no at the last minute, it’s a done deal.
Update: Sugary Senate pork made the medicine go down: 263-171 as the gavel comes down, with some 90 Republicans voting yes. The Dow has suddenly dropped by 80 points or so, but I think I know why — it’s pessimists like me unloading their portfolios to capitalize on the post-bailout spike ahead of what they expect will be another downturn next week. (I didn’t unload, but thought about it.)
Standby for the roll of glory bitter resignation!
Update: Democrats predictably credit The One, who leaned on members to switch and push this through.

Of course it will pass. Only 120 billion in extra pork was added.

We’ll make it through this AP. Remove the round from the chamber. ;)
When this is done, next up is McCain and Palin going on the attack about who is responsible. Bipartisanship time is now over. As Biden said, we have to know how we got here and it is up to McCain/Palin to get this out as the MSM and will ignore radio and bloggers.
AP: What about getting that video of Sarah on Fox News today saying she wants to get back and fight for Michigan? Excellent stuff that will certainly fire up the base!

Dollar drops… Inflation goes up as well as the price of oil.
Then the economy really takes a downturn, so Obama and a DNC controlled house enacts a huge tax levy (because we can’t just keep borrowing ourselves out of this mess and taxing is patriotic citizen) further spiraling inflation which leads to the enactment of more social programs to save our fellow citizens. Obama meets with Chavez to discuss social programs to enact for the poor of our country and then decides to restructure the constitution for a modern age…

The Dow is likely going off the cliff regardless of whether this passes. People are going to love this when they find out what the carbon tax provision means and when they get the bill for their health insurance after they added mental health parity. This is still a turd sandwich!

A quick repost:
yesterday’s show (10/1) from Mark Levin. Jim DeMint shares my deep suspicion about what’s really going on: The Saudis and Chinese have threated the US that if the Government does not make good on these bonds they will not lend the US another penny. That’s why Paulson won’t consider any other plan, and won’t consider restrictions on what he buys, what he pays or from whom he can buy. Another NJ congressman Mark has on later in the show shared DeMint’s suspicion and added that Fannie and Freddie were taken over at the instance of SA and China since they held so many of their bonds…

A few minutes ago Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review Online posted this (emphasis added):
Paulson has been working on this for about a year and this steaming pile is all he could come up with? President Bush, like his father, has surrounded himself with some of the worst possible advisors. He has a penchant for placing trust in misguided incompetents just because he likes them or they manifest loyalty to him.
Americans don’t realize what is being done to us. They don’t realize what’s coming our way.

I’ve mentioned that here as well. I’ve also written dozens of conservative pundits about it, yet not one is discussing this. I think it’s a huge story if it’s true. Sen. DeMint is not the only person who believes this. Rep. Brad Sherman, a Dem on the Financial Services Committee, has mentioned it as well. He’s also the one who said on the floor yesterday that House members were being advised there would be martial law without passage of the bailout. I am outraged!
Here is a 2 minute Youtube of Rep. Sherman and Sen. DeMint discussing this

The fault of this vote is squarely on the Republicans. The Dems got 160 yeas. If the Republicans simply stuck together and voted against it, they would have sunk Nancy Pelosi’s political career. Instead, they turned into a bunch of pussies. I hope every Republican that voted in favor of this gets voted out.
