Video: Fred defends Palin

posted at 3:05 pm on October 2, 2008 by Allahpundit

Maggie Rodriguez seems distinctly less than thrilled to have him there, especially when he brings up Ifill. A good job of good-soldiering, although I’m not sure how well his point about non-lawyers not knowing Supreme Court precedent will play. I brought that up myself yesterday as a possible defense to Palin’s blanking during the Couric interview, but the boss (a non-lawyer) was underwhelmed. Americans like their presidents to be “ordinary” but maybe not that ordinary. To wit, from the new WaPo poll:

Independents now say she’s too inexperienced by a margin of two to one, and more indies say she makes them less inclined to vote for McCain than more so. The good news: Word on the street from Byron York is that debate camp went pretty well. The bad news: Psychics are pessimistic.

1. Let’s assume every bad loan on every bank is wiped clean. Huge capital increases. In this environment and economic climate, hope much do you think they will loan back out?

2. Will they increase or decrease collateral requirements?

3. Will qualification requirements and credit scores be tighter?

McCain voted for a boondoggle. Banks cannot be forced to loan money. They just want their money back despite greed loans. They will get it. Main Street loses.

Here’s my prediction:

Palin does well.
McCain keeps playing “safe” and loses in landslide.
Economy tanks despite bailout, and Treasury needs another 500B for Business Friends of O’Bama
Democratic Congress in both houses approve New Great Society in January.
McCain blames conservatives.

Yeah. I knew somebody would ‘fix’ it.

LimeyGeek on October 2, 2008 at 3:49 PM

Of course they won’t. Socialism needs productive workers to carry the burden. Once the pie starts gettng divided the fragmentation won’t just stop at one division, human nature being what it is. There will always be discontent. That first step sets precedent.

a capella on October 2, 2008 at 3:46 PM

Yeah, I figured about as much.

I honestly don’t think this will happen THIS election, even if Obama wins… at least not immediately, if he starts passing some really kooky resolutions then it might hasten the process… but eventually something will happen or someone will come onto the scene and things will go down. The questions that will have to be answered then are whether or not the military will submit to Obama’s order to stop the Conservatives from departing (or perhaps more accurately, what portion of the military will and what portion will go AWOL) and whether or not the Conservatives still have more guns.

Time will tell.

We’ve still got a month to go in this election, and that’s a long time in politics. Anything could happen. – AZCoyote on October 2, 2008 at 3:41 PM

Flashback: North Atlantic, off the coast of Newfoundland, April 14, 1912

Capt. Smith: “The engineer reports that we are taking water in five compartments.”

Mr. Andrews: “Titanic wasn’t designed to sustain that kind of damage, Captain. This vessel is going to sink in a matter of hours.”

Mr. Ismay: “We’ve still got hours to go, gentlemen, and that’s a long time for a ship to sink. Anything could happen.”

That should put things in perspective.

ManlyRash on October 2, 2008 at 3:53 PM

So Palin can’t hardly screw up that much. McCain is completely out of touch and letting O’Bama steal the election.

Starlink on October 2, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Losing to Obama the economic genius community-organizer, I can’t believe it. I’m reminded of Gordon Gecko’s line in Wall Street (paraphrased): “He doesn’t know the difference between preferred stock and livestock.” All the same, Obama is bluffing his way through, while McCain is mailing it in. I wonder whether McCain’s been reading the Dems’ and MSM take on the bailout, which blames the GOP–and he agrees. So, it’s back to yammering about earmarks, bipartisanship, and the surge

It will do Palin well to frame a response to any memory lapse with “at the moment, I can only think of decisions that I support.”

Our lovely pitbull needs her muzzle removed in self defense at least, if not for great offense against her opponents.

Think of it as a tool like a shovel or car jack. Just a nice piece of machinery for specific tasks. My oldest one is a H & R Trapper Model, 9 shot .22, given me by my parents over 50 years ago. The blueing is almost all worn off and it is a keepsake, still accurate and reliable, but still just a tool. The more you handle one and learn about it, the less frightening it becomes.

New Great Society continues to grow.
Fairness Doctrine implemented; talk radio shut down
Internet Fairness Doctrine implemented
ACORN becomes a cabinet level department
Terrorists attack the U.S.
President Obama declares martial law; suspends Habeus Corpus
Sedition Acts reinstated
National Defense Force activated; citizens urged to report seditious activity
Race riots occur in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago and New York; billions of dollars in property damage
Alaska declares independence; President Obama threatens to reincorporate Alaska by force; Pres. Palin responds “Kiss my frosty ass.”
Second Continental Congress convenes in secret in Dallas, TX; representatives from 21 states attend to debate and draft a declaration of independence
Independence declared; President Obama dons a stovepipe hat and fake beard, declares that the Union must be preserved; orders naval blockade of southern states and army presence at borders
Mass resignations in military as officers and enlisted personnel return to their home states
Pres. Obama requests negotiations for separation.
Old United States recognizes the New American Republic.

Fred knows courtroom. +1

Out of all the GOP POTUS primary candidates, Fred did more to educate America than any other (first principles as they apply to make today’s government function according to the Constitutional design). There’s his great platform already constructed for the RNC thanks to Fred. To the extent that McCain gets on board, McCain will thrive. (When McCain soared, he was in alignment with Fred’s platform.) To the extent that McCain takes off on a twisted bi-partisan tangent, the ticket depreciates and the GOP reputation remains tarnished.

Fred and Rudy and Newt really make a positive impact for Palin, far better than McCain does it seems.

BTW, Bail-Out flack:
With all the ECONOMIC implications of today’s “catastrophe”, Romney’s absent silence hardly benefits America or the GOP. Since his convention speech, what’s Romney doing to support Palin as VP offering interviews on her behalf or even writing an op-ed. His absence from offering McCain or the GOP “economic crisis” management speaks volumes as to his ability, whether real or faux. AT any rate, it’s one thing to chest your cards, and another to take your marbles and go home. Did McCain tell Romney to STFU, or is this silence bitter retribution, or is Romney scared to have his say on record?

maverick muse on October 2, 2008 at 4:22 PM

Gotta love CBS.

“Well Senator Thompson, if you are not going to validate our unsubstantiated accusations that Republicans hate Palin, we don’t have any more time for you.”

maverick muse on October 2, 2008 at 4:22 PM

This must be from the camp. The day before McCain went to Washington (campaign suspension) Mitt was on TV talking up McCain on economics. I honestly expected McCain to present a Mitt-designed bill. But no, and no sign (I’ve seen) since. The party needs him back, imo, front and center on economics.

I admit, I DO NOT WATCH TELEVISION NEWS ANY LONGER.

I’ve asked about Romney’s participation before @ HotAir, as I know his supporters will fill in the blanks that Drudge and even Allahpundit leave online.

So what did Romney say? Share what you heard. Thanks.

maverick muse on October 2, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Phil Gramm got tossed under McCain’s bus for coming on strong with little patience for media sh*t framed as intolerance for typical Americans.

At that point, I researched Gramm’s legislative history on banking–contributed to negativity imo. Nonetheless, this past week I saw that Gramm was against this bail-out because it would do nothing to FIX THE PROBLEM while augmenting the suffering to come.

Obviously, McCain ain’t listening to Phil any longer. You say McCain was listening to Romney? Or that Romney was simply offering his opinion for the public on behalf of McCain? McCain’s not listening to Fred who told McCain to reverse his position on the bail-out.

So McCain listens to Bush, Paulson, Pelosi, Reid, Obama on ECONOMY.

God help us.

maverick muse on October 2, 2008 at 4:31 PM

He said that he (& his team iirc) was meeting with McCain (& his team iirc) later in the day. And he said that the situation was dire enough to need action from Congress. It wasn’t extraordinarily remarkable, but he was definitely on the team at the time, so if he’s not out there currently, then I fig’ that’s the campaign’s decision.

Spirit of 1776 on October 2, 2008 at 4:39 PM

TheSitRep on October 2, 2008 at 4:41 PM

If the deciding factor in Palin’s decline is Independents, it doesn’t make sense for her to play the media bias card or to attack Biden. Ironically, I think her best strategy is the same as Biden’s: Ignore your opponent, speak in detail, rather than quips, to demonstrate your knowledge and clearly contrast your ideas with those of the top guy on the other ticket.

But I have a strong suspicion that’s not what she’s been coached to do.

Nah, Romney released a press release saying the so-called “bail out” was a very important process that the country needed. Now, I BELIEVE that the a$$hole Huck was against it….once again showing which one of the two has a brain and which onhe has children that hangs dogs.

Romney is supporting McCain as much as McCain wants. Maybe, and this is only a guess, it isnt good for the McCain ticket to have Romney out there out-shining the Maverick and the Veep who couldnt even frickin tell Katie Couric the name of a newspaper or magazine or two that she uses to keep up on things.

Of all the bad interview clips, that one, to me, was the worst. “uh, I read all of them or any of them…you know, Alaska isnt a foreign country you know.” O man…that was, like, REAL pathetic. My 15 year old daughter would have answered that better.

I don’t know if the locals in Santa Monica could handle someone that makes moose meatballs though.

JadeNYU on October 2, 2008 at 5:49 PM

I still think the answer Palin gave about the supreme court case wasn’t so much that she did not know, but that Couric and the rest would have criticized her for the case she noted.

Couric wasn’t trying to see if she knew one, she was trying to get her to commit to one that she could further question her on. Sarah did what all politicians do, give the non-answer. She just didn’t do a very good job of it.

How in the hell do we get our message out with Grand Inquisitors like that asking the questions and controlling the playing field? Man I remember Ronnie on the TV as a kid, feeling like he was talking to me. No wonder he’s revered as he is. “Thank you, and God Bless You.”

I just hope that Joe Sixpack watches the CBS Grand Inquisitor and sees the blantast bias shining like the sun.

Way to go Fred, the man I wished had won! He had her steppin and fetchin, like her ass was on fire, and her head was catchin! Wish he’d been coaching the Cuda, or even better he was the one debating Biden. Man, that would be a slapdown.

Thanks Fred that was wonderful putting that snippy reporter in her place and not letting her cut off crucial information (the same technique ‘Gwen IfillforObama’ did to Cheney in the 2004 VP debate). Gov Palin has alot of people praying for her and I hope she does well. I know that even if she does great, the best that we could hope for from the media is a ‘draw’.
I also have some disheartening news from McCain. Mark Levin just read an article from McCain stating he wants to go full ahead on global warming/climate change and WANTS GORE AS AN ADVISOR, but the only issue they disagree on is nuclear energy. People, it is as important to vote Republican down the line now than in almost any other election in my lifetime (save 1980 and 1984). We have to have a strong repub/conservative base in Congress to thwart either McCain’s liberal predilections and Obama’s socialist regime. Why does he keep shooting himself and his base in the foot?

If you had a Thompson/Palin ticket now Obama wouldn’t be where he is-crusing to victory.
