A few people have e-mailed to say that the livestream in Ed’s open thread complicates comment discussion by slowing refresh times, so here’s a no-frills alternative. Take your pick.

While we wait for the main event, “enjoy” the last installment in her series with Couric. They saved a doozy for the finale.

Game face!

Hey ClassicCon, why all the negativity?

Don’t get me wrong I think Palin is great, yet I think she did very average on this debate. No fire in my opinion. Again I don’t blame her, I blame her running mate.

The MSM will shred any positive points she made and render the debate a moot point. I just don’t see anything here that will cause a swing in votes at this point.

Y-not on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM:
1. She isn’t running for President. Comparing her to failed Presidential candidates isn’t relevant.

It’s relevant to assessing her performance in a debate. How did she do at persuading the viewer that Republican principles and policies are the right way to lead the nation? The folks I cited I’ve seen in action doing that in earlier debates. I found them all to be more effective at persuasion and at not appearing evasive.

In what way does Palin come out as a worse VP candidate than Biden in your mind?

I lack confidence that Gov. Palin has the readiness to step into the Oval Office should the need arise. She didn’t close that deal with me tonight. I don’t want Biden there because of my serious differences with where he wants to lead the country, but I don’t doubt he’s prepared.

Rev Snow on October 2, 2008 at 11:03 PM

I can’t seem to find a ABC poll..

Maybe they don’t want anyone’s opinion other than their own?

SaintOlaf on October 2, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Another draw.
Oh, on likability and being a REAL ‘real person’, and a pretty darn sharp one at that, Sarah wiped the floor with him.

To the average person who is not a political junkie like us HotAirians, however, I think that it was too close to call.

Biden can lie and dissemble pretty darn well, Sarah can’t do that, but all too often she only told HALF of the truth that needed to be told.

They both came off as populists rather than the partisan leftist that Biden is, and I think Palin is either just rubber stamping McCain’ worst points, or she really is just somewhat SOCIALLY (only) conservative but politically, no more than a non-conservative populist.

But one thing made it a huge disappointment to me: Cap and Trade, Global Waring nonsense from Palin. That lost my support for the ticket, right there.

I wasn’t too thrilled with her oft repeated “corporate corruption and greed” stuff either.

“Corporate corruption” is maybe responsible for 1/4 of the economic problem, but from listening to both of them, that is the entire problem. They both ignored the POLITICAL corruption and greed that is responsible for half of the problem, and the stupidity of people who bought more than they can afford for the other 1/4 of the problem.

I’d expect that from Biden, but I had hoped that Palin would take the opportunity to place much more blame where it really belongs: on the Democrats in the Senate and the House.

But unfortunately, she followed the lead from McCain who continues to refuse to indict his ‘across the aisle’ ‘Fraternity brothers’ for their corruption and stupidity.

I still like Palin as a person, and wouldn’t mind having her as my Governor. But I’m disappointed that she isn’t going to be the sane and honest conservative counterbalance to McCain’s particular weaknesses and stupidities.

LegendHasIt on October 2, 2008 at 11:03 PM

We all know this was not the Palin/Biden debate. This was the Palin/Palin debate. Everybody who tuned into this thing, whether liberal, moderate or conservative were tuned in to see which candidate Sarah Palin handed the live hand grenade to, Obama or McCain. As usual nobody gived a rats a** what nonsense spewed from Biden’s cakehole. Nobody will remember a thing he said. All that will be remembered is Palin pulled this off dazzlingly. She left practically zero room for MSM critisism. The incompetence theme is going to be difficult for them to pursue after that performance she just gave. Just a quick dance around the internet I see an attempt to push a theme about her being an “attacker”. Uh huh. So the little girl was picking on poor experienced big Joe Biden. Ooookay, we’ll see how that theme turns out for you. She honestly left them nothing to work with. The media made this debate all about Sarah Palin in the hopes that she choked and blew up the McCain campaign with her. In the end that worked against them. They turned her into the underdog. They turned her into the 1980 US Olympic hockey team. They turned Biden into the mighty Soviet Red Army team. The United States citizens are happy to watch an underdog put up a good fight, let alone do the unimagineable and pull off the victory. I think we should run with the 1980 US Olympic team analogy. It just works on so many levels. The Commies vs the good Ol’ US of A. The young, inexperienced, baby faced teenagers vs the professionals.

Ah whatever, she kicked ass.

Former Beloved Leader and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Jimmy Carter pronounces that word exactly the same way.

And the last time I checked, Mr. Peanut studied nukular physics in college, and was going to be one of the original US Navy nukular submarine captains under his mentor, Admiral Hyman Rickover, but had to quit the service when his dad died so he could take over the family Jif peanut butter farm.

It’s kind of hard to find a conservative argument for electing a guy who’s made a career of telling conservatives to go to hell.

Legend, Palin was the undisputed underdog. A draw is a victory. As you know, political events do not take place in a vaccuum. People tuned in to see her, not him. They don’t care what he says. Biden’s boring and usual. He’s something people have seen everyday on their TV for as long as they can remember. Sarah Palin was not competing against Joe Biden tonight. She was competing against herself and only herself. How she did tonight was all that mattered to people. She did well, hence she won. Nobody will remember a word Joe Biden said tonight. On the contrary, her face will be all over the TV tomorrow. The national conversation will not be “who won the debate”. It will be Sarah Palin offered up a strong performance. That is all that matters.

Well I get more fired up by angry speakers vs. excited speakers so maybe it is just me. I still, however, fail to understand why McCain still allows the Obama camp to lay this financial garbage at his feet, unless…

I just thought of this, as much as I was hoping for a Fannie/Freddie/Countrywide retort from Palin, maybe, and this is a long shot, the McCain camp is saving this for the final debate so the impact will last longer be that much more powerful.

Christ I hope so.

I think that’s aggravating as well. It also seems like such a convoluted mess that it’s hard to figure out a simple way to explain it in a sound bite. I blame the msm for much of McCain’s inability to get his message out. They allow the left to blatantly lie.

Oh, well, someone has to do it, and none of you SissyMary’s are going to so:

OK, nitwit. You’ve been whining all night, spill it. Tell us what part of Obama/Biden you like better than having Sarah Palin as the VP? We’ll wait patiently, unless you’re going to do some sort of idiotic “I wish we had nominated (pick one - Huck, Mitt, America’s Greatest Patriot, Fred), instead of McCain”, in which case we’re all just going to laugh at you and make fun of your faux cowboy moniker.

It’s your floor: whine away.

All I know is we went from every liberal blogger in the known universe claiming Joe was going to suck the oxygen right out of her and drop her like a bad habit to arguing about who won. I hate to play the curve, but thats a victory. My opinion only. And my opinion does not express the view of the sponsor of this site or Bosniakians in any region of the former Yugoslavia.
