A few people have e-mailed to say that the livestream in Ed’s open thread complicates comment discussion by slowing refresh times, so here’s a no-frills alternative. Take your pick.
While we wait for the main event, “enjoy” the last installment in her series with Couric. They saved a doozy for the finale.
Game face!

Who gives a crap?
People vote. People, not the media. That’s why these things are on tv.
Spirit of 1776 on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
I was nervous, started slow, but damn she held her own except for teh McKernan gaff. But Biden said nothing so its both their gaff.
hawkdriver on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
One thing I noticed about the debate…
McCain/Biden = Senatorial Clones.
Why can’t we amend the constitution to forbid Senators from running for the Presidency…
420sniper on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Yuuuup……*hoists another drink*
ManlyRash on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Now, they are saying they are being too polite and she had no command of the issues and Biden did. All she proved is that she could stand there.
Blake on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
I see it the other way around. I thought Biden was very smooth, very professional, very well-spoken, very impressive. But I know he’s a career politician, so it doesn’t matter.
SlimyBill on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Well you did admit you are drunk.
Seriously, Joe is likable. Sarah is LOVABLE!
carbon_footprint on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
amazing, I turned to CNN just to hear their biased commentary. The spin was: Palin did okay, but wow, this was Joe Biden’s best debate ever!
True, Biden didn’t gaffe a lot other than I think he misstated some of Barack Obama’s positions. But Palin slapped him upside the head (I thought). She was straight up Sarah.
katablog.com on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Maybe when MSNBC finally goes under, CNN can take their place as least respected and lowest rated political cable channel.
wise_man on October 2, 2008 at 10:49 PM
Luntzs Duntzs loved her. OMG.

the undecideds on cnn seem to be very decided. decidedly for obama.

How was that, Allah? Did you drink the whole bottle of Jack Daniels? I think Palin did fantastic!

hawkdriver on October 2, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Now they are saying that they tried to out middle class each other but both are rich. Palin is not rich.
Blake on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
I wanna see the transcript .. did Biden say Obama instead of Osama when talking about Pakistan?
Texas Gal on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
1. She isn’t running for President. Comparing her to failed Presidential candidates isn’t relevant.
2. McCain picked Palin, not the others, as his VP running mate. In selecting her, he energized his campaign.
3. Biden’s campaign for President never got off the ground — he was a failed Presidential candidate who has brought nothing to Obama’s ticket except a bucket full of gaffes and concrete evidence that Obama knows he is not qualified to be commander in chief
In what way does Palin come out as a worse VP candidate than Biden in your mind?
Y-not on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Governors of states, it would seem, make better presidents than US senators. Including McCain, but especially Biden and Obama.
wise_man on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
…what was telling for me is that Luntz’s Losers — those faux independents — were actually sticking up for Sarah…of course, one guy said, of course she’s qualified, she’s a governor, she’s been down that road….
…so…Luntz isn’t entirely useless….
…the Leftist spin will be excruciating…I guess they’ll have to go back to “is she experienced?”….
…wait…isn’t that a Hendrix song?
Puritan1648 on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
ABC keeps talking about the kitchen table, and how great Biden was. What a crock.
resqgal on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Sarah is doing one thing for sure. I have never seen so many comments for a HA post. ;)
Nelsa on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
You just made a fact.
Benjamin9 on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Biden gaffed a few times, see Bosniaks. He also lied about 16 times.
I still want to see proof that Obama warned about subprime mortgages two years ago.
carbon_footprint on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Ha, I’d not heard that before. Clever.
Spirit of 1776 on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Focus group loves her too. Must just be me.
I thought her performance was subpar. She avoided total disaster, so if you went in expecting disaster, then I guess she had a success.
Way too much unskillful dodging of questions for my taste. Dodging questions is something all politicians have to do some of the time, but she did it so much and so inartfully it was painful to watch.
But you win elections by appealing to majorities and it’s clear that’s not me tonight.
Rev Snow on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
Let me guess what the Obama campaign’s response is gonna be to this debate….
The American people wanted to hear about the change they need. Sarah Palin just espoused the same failed Bush McCain policies that have not worked for the American middle class. America simply cannot afford more of the same and that is what Palin offered the American people tonight.
El_Terrible on October 2, 2008 at 10:51 PM
SAY IT AIN’T SO, JOE!
‘Nuff said. She won.

McCain needs to make Frank, Dodd, Franklin Raines, and all the Fannie and Freddie enablers his 2008 Willie Horton.
But will he?
BuckeyeSam on October 2, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Watched a little of the CNN “focus group” – phoney and obviously packed typical CNN
bill30097 on October 2, 2008 at 10:52 PM
One thing about Luntz’s group: they were all allegedly “undecideds”, but then he asked how many had changed their minds tonight, and several raised their hands. Guess they weren’t undecided then.

Palin for President ‘12 just got a boost tonight.
420sniper on October 2, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Top reason why AllahPundit is giving Palin a hard time is because she is against gay marriage, and, that she has – in the vein this debate anyway – pushed the Obama campaign towards the same position.
You can vote for McCain/Palin now Allah…
Mcguyver on October 2, 2008 at 10:52 PM
You’re going to need to pay close attention to FactCheck. He just made shit up all night, as usual. That’s beside his smarmy Home Depot crap.

Good F*king lord, 77.9%, 20,612 votes for Biden. You could imagine Olbermann, Matthews and Maddow running from computer to computer in the MSNBC newsroom clicking biden, over and over and over.

Got to stop saying ‘nukular.’ Please, is this a Republican DNA issue, or a big state governor issue?

Burr was a good shot. He killed his opponent. Cheney missed.

“She did as best as she could but people still will like Joe Biden and Barack Obama better.”
“Joe Biden connected better with middle America than she did.”
All ABC folks.
unmeritedfavor on October 2, 2008 at 10:53 PM
I thought she did very well. I turned it off right when the Luntz stuff came on so I missed that.
She was so much more relaxed and in command tonight. I think they did something weird with the interviews. She was herself here.
Terrye on October 2, 2008 at 10:53 PM
Someone tell me that you didn’t see a look of mutual respect out of those two. Biden knew Sarah did well.

…no….
…it’d be a pol jaw-jackin’ with a pol…this was a citizen, on national television (and not on “COPS”), up against a guy whose running mate was 12 years old when he took his seat in the Senate…a polished, slightly dramatic “debater”…used to the kabuki theater of national televised debates…Guiliani’d've been more fun, Thompson would’ve had better jokes…but Sarah was speakin’ for me….
…no…I’d've been meaner….

Puritan1648 on October 2, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Someone here just used the buzz up! feature to post this at Yahoo with the comment that McCain just lost the election. I would suggest that AP and Ed start buzzing up their own pieces so we have the ability to control it instead of the trolls who are allowed here.

Palin connected with Main Street America.
Biden was Washington D.C. business as usual. He told a lot of lies, and the message of “hope and change” was completely lost.
My collie says:
McCain will win or lose on his own merits now — unless Obama loses it because of his lack of merit.

Biden’s eyes didn’t look natural. There is some face pulling surgery going on there. They tightened his face more outward to make him look a bit almond eyed or something.
Buddahpundit on October 2, 2008 at 10:58 PM
Aw-ful did a biased unethical job tonight. So Joe, give us the last word EVERYTIME! Palin should have given her an opportunity to point out that she has a book about Obama coming out on inauguration day. Not only was the ref a fan of the other team but she had money on the game too. Terrible.
Both Palin and Biden did quite well. Either one could top the ticket. It was a draw in my mind which in the mind of the MSM was a blowout for O’Biden. He lied as usual but he’s a great liar. I love Sarah but she gets none of the positive spin from the media’s billion dollar commitment to Obama/O’Biden. Overall this was a much better debate than Obama McCain.
John McCain had better go after Obama or we’re dead. America WILL vote for a racist, black liberationist, anti-Semite, proto-Muslim, anti-white, Marxist, radical if he’s wrapped up in a billion dollar media blitz. I’m feeling the Clinton ‘92 blues.
