They sound happy, in a pro forma sort of way.
“Tonight, Governor Palin proved beyond any doubt that she is ready to lead as Vice President of the United States. She won this debate, putting Joe Biden on defense on energy, foreign policy, taxes and the definition of change. Governor Palin laid bare Barack Obama’s record of voting to raise taxes, opposing the surge in Iraq, and proposing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of state sponsors of terror. The differences between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin ticket could not have been clearer. The American people saw stark contrasts in style and worldview. They saw Joe Biden, a Washington insider and a 36-year Senator, and Governor Palin, a Washington outsider and a maverick reformer. Governor Palin was direct, forceful and a breath of fresh air.” –Jill Hazelbaker, McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director
Current Drudge poll numbers: Palin 74%, Biden 24%. Vote it out!

I think Palin did better than ok but I think we all generally felt McCain did better than Obama in the first debate and it didn’t help him too much in the polls (for what they’re worth). Will this “victory” by Palin be little different I wonder?

RMCS_USN on October 2, 2008 at 11:22 PM
No, she helped herself, but she saved McCain. The dip in the poll, according Rovian math, was Mac dips less then Obama gains. That means she had to stop the bleeding for the top of the ticket. And she did. She tangibly helped McCain.

My daughter thought Biden used too much Botox!
Anyway, she really ran away with the non-verbals. Yes, she was good on her answers, but at our house at times there was cross-talk during the debate and I could not always hear what she was saying.
She has Reagan’s ability to use the camera Unbelievable ability to speak to the camera and connect. She talked directly to the American people like Reagan did and this, above all else, has to be extremely scary to the O’Bama camp. She really connects like no one in recent memory. Now turn her loose!

what substance did Biden show?
He showed he doesn’t know the constitution. It’s Article 2 not Article 1 that defines the roles of the VP.
He showed that he doesn’t know or he lied about how much we have spent in Afghanistan in the last 7 years. (172 BILLION vs 10 billion a month in Irag in only 5 years).
He showed that he is a hypocrite.
What substance? Be specific.

I thought Sarah did very well on energy. I also thought she did pretty well on the foreign policy stuff too.
I don’t think McCain has used her on the bailout stuff too much or even said a lot about some of the players involved because of the bill they are working on.
But that could change once things settle down a bit.

Unquiet on October 2, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I don’t know about that. Editing or no editing some of those answers were rough. One difference that struck me is how she didn’t appear nervous at all tonight. Just like her speech at the convention she was speaking as comfortably as if she were conversing with her own family members. In her interview with Couric in particular, she seemed rattled, nervous and uneasy. I was afraid that once she was in front of a larger audience, with more national attention the neves would tense up rather than ease. I just don’t think its beyond the realm of possibilities that she was puttin on a bit of an act in the interviews to acheive underdog status here. Yeah, unlikely but I’m just baffled by how a person can be nervous in front of one interviewer and then at ease infront of a giant audience with the entire election’s outcome at stake. I just don’t get it. Love it though.

I never understood how this redistribution of wealth is going to work. How will giving “poor” people who already cannot manage money help? IMHO, they will just waste it like they always do. I’m not trying to generalize and there are always the exceptions, but for the most part they will not use their money wisely. However, if you give them jobs, then they will start to pull themselves up.
Mr_Magoo on October 2, 2008 at 11:38 PM
I couldn’t make it to the end of the debate. What was up with Sarah’s answer to the banking crisis at the beginning? Biden lies and says that Obama tried to prevent this and instead of blasting him for such an outrageous statement, she refuses to comment on it. I was literally yelling at the t.v. I was so hoping that she would point the finger and say that Obama was accepting cash from these bankers like there was no tomorrow and the demonrats refused to pass legislation that would have prevented this. Am I the only one that was annoyed by this? Then when they were talking about tax breaks; Biden says that the rich don’t need any more money. I was hoping she would call him out for the socialist that he is and explain the very basic economic principle that taxing the corporations only results in increased prices on products for everyone which in turn affects the middle class.

Jeez people. There is nothing more unreliable than an online poll. Fox has that stupid “text xxxx” to vote. Millions of people never go to online polls or use text. Give it a rest. Trust your gut. Ask yourself “What, as an average citizen did you honestly think about the debate?” and chances are a hell of a lot of people think the same way. Online polls are like getting your fortune read at a Gypsy booth at the state fair. It’s for entertainment purposes only.

Morris is rightfully fed up with Colmes. Morris pointed out that last week he was objective enough to say Obama won the debate and Colmes agree. Palin clearly won that debate or at a minimum exceeded all expectations and Colmes can’t come to terms with it and starts nit picking little facts.
CanadianGuy on October 2, 2008 at 11:46 PM
you nailed it. Exactly. The media tried to do the same thing to Reagan, and Bush 1, and Dole and Bush 2 (except, well they turned out sort of right).
It’s what the media DOES. If you are a Republican running for major office the media playbook states and I quote..
Article 1. The role of the media is to ridicule and minimize the beliefs of any conservative Republican and to to go so far as to raise doubt on the intellectual capacity of said Republican.
Article 2 deals with October surprises and how to type fake memos…
420sniper on October 2, 2008 at 11:46 PM
True. Though considering who the “moderator” tonight was I think she might still have had reason to be slightly nervous.
Anybody else notice how stupid some of the questions tonight were? I think this “moderator” abandoned oh whole array of gotcha questions at the last minute, once her obvious conflict of interest was revealed, and filled it in with something stupid like “what would be worse, a nuclear Iran or an unstable jihidi controlled Pakistan?”
Was she serious with that question? Lets see, what would be worse, a gun to my head or a bazooka to my balls?

Screw bipartisanship. Luntz’s duntzes, though a limited group, show that the middle 20% is enraged with DC over the crisis.
