McCain camp: She did it

They sound happy, in a pro forma sort of way.

“Tonight, Governor Palin proved beyond any doubt that she is ready to lead as Vice President of the United States. She won this debate, putting Joe Biden on defense on energy, foreign policy, taxes and the definition of change. Governor Palin laid bare Barack Obama’s record of voting to raise taxes, opposing the surge in Iraq, and proposing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of state sponsors of terror. The differences between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin ticket could not have been clearer. The American people saw stark contrasts in style and worldview. They saw Joe Biden, a Washington insider and a 36-year Senator, and Governor Palin, a Washington outsider and a maverick reformer. Governor Palin was direct, forceful and a breath of fresh air.” –Jill Hazelbaker, McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director

Current Drudge poll numbers: Palin 74%, Biden 24%. Vote it out!

That was her message tonight.

This is the greatest libertarian politician in decades.

Barry Goldwater would be very, very proud of Sarah Palin.

ericdondero on October 2, 2008 at 10:55 PM

Oh yes, now we really begin to see Saracuda.

NBC pundits Ferraro & Noonan gushing all over about how she went toe to toe and matched Biden at his best. I swear that Ferraro is going to pull the McCain/Palin lever now. She just could not stop. Even lib Michele Norris of NPR has them even.

I guarantee that the women of America are going to flock to her.

Then she came back and was strong, confident and down home,I think she rocked, Barracuda for sure.
Gov. Palin made her critics eat their words, way cool!

Richard Romano on October 2, 2008 at 10:59 PM

Sarah has proven that she has the chops to take on whomever she needs to. So if the McCain camp is smart, they will free Sarah from this point on and let her be a true asset to the campaign.

IrishGirl17 on October 2, 2008 at 10:59 PM

Do you still think she’s an idiot Allah?

On a serious note, I really hope we see some movement in the polls. If that kind of performance doesn’t do SOMETHING then we are in definite trouble.

Biden’s a damn liar.

Cardiganfox on October 2, 2008 at 11:00 PM

Palin did a nice job. I listened to the first half without watching, then watched and listened to the second half. She does a bit better when you watch.

I was telling my girlfriend that I think Palin’s expressions and gestures are a good part of her delivery, and that she comes off better when watched than just listened to.

Anyway, I think Palin won outright.

jaime on October 2, 2008 at 11:00 PM

BTW: Polls will show Biden won, since everyone always wants to vote for Dems in uncertain economic times. But Sarah Palin won a long term strategic victory… and that’s a great thing for her and the GOP.

fiatboomer on October 2, 2008 at 11:00 PM

LGF running Obama’s clear agreement to meet with leader of Iran without pre-condition. Biden should be ashamed.

DrW on October 2, 2008 at 11:00 PM

I flipped it on and off but from what I saw, for the first time on the national stage, Palin did very well.

Remember: first time out. Not many politicians could have matched that performance the first time out. Compare her performace with Obama’s first debate. I betcha’ Palin did at least as well if not better.

Win for Palin. This, at the very least, stops the Obama momentum for a while.

Now, it’s up to McCain to do the rest.

If he can.

SteveMG on October 2, 2008 at 11:01 PM

Yes she did. BOOYA girl. Is there a way to have her debate Obama next?

Nice job Governor. Well done!

I didn’t see anything but the last 10 minutes. How was Ifill?? From the comments I’ve seen, no one’s bitching about her..she was OK??

Well, good on her…

I mean really..

BigWyo on October 2, 2008 at 11:01 PM

Yeah she did. Whew, I can breath again. I thought she sounded like she was struggling at first but then she got her legs and seemed to settle in and command respect.
They should get a nice bump out of this and hopefully McCain can sustain it. There is hope my friends.

And did Biden say, “let me get this straight, and listen close, the commander in Afghanistan said a surge there would not work. That’s why we need more troops and more funding in Afghanistan.”, did he say that or was it just me?

Geronimo on October 2, 2008 at 11:02 PM

“Neither a gamechanger nor a solid win, but a very respectable showing!”

Who else here thinks she was sandbagging for her last two TV interviews so she could ‘rope-a-dope’ Biden tonight?

locomotivebreath1901 on October 2, 2008 at 11:02 PM

I don’t know how the polls will reflect this, I do know how the media will spin it. But I don’t think anyone could watch that debate and not come away impressed with her performance. She looked very knowledgeable and very comfortable and more than held her own. And on foreign policy, she’s obviously a very quick study.

Compare the difference between her knowledge level and Biden’s (none apparent from this debate) with the difference between McCain’s FP knowledge and Obama’s (huge difference).

thirteen28 on October 2, 2008 at 11:02 PM

To sum them up with one word; Palin = Real, Biden= Tired

She connected, Biden just cant and he doesnt. People have heard so much tripe from his lame ass for so long. Whether it was his words or someone elses. People, “change” was defined in mere appearance tonight. It was so obvious.

I know that she did well because the 200 person panel at CNN has that look….the one they had after her speech. You cant miss it.

I bet that Andrea Mitchell flipped herself inside out tonight….holy shi* its Larry King.

OSUBuciz1 on October 2, 2008 at 11:02 PM

Chris Matthews: Anybody can memorize. Were they her thoughts or was she coached. That’s the bad things about debates.

Olby’s doing his serious stare. Palin got things wrong. Of course no mention of Biden getting anything wrong.

Switching channels before I kick the tv over.

Mr_Magoo on October 2, 2008 at 11:02 PM

She more than matched him step by step. Turn her loose now John. Don’t make her have to wait until 2012 to unseat Hussien, a la 1980.
