Franken truth test: C-

KSTP’s Truth Test checked Al Franken’s latest ad, accusing Norm Coleman of being in the pocket of Wall Street interests — and gives it low marks for honesty. While it accurately notes the amount of money Coleman took from Wall Street this cycle, it fails to mention that two other Democrats have taken far more from Wall Street this cycle, nor does it mention Franken’s own haul from the financial sector:
The entire exercise is a little absurd. Norm Coleman wasn’t in the Senate in the late 1990s, when Congress and the White House pushed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into buying up bad paper and converting it into securities. He came along years later, when Republicans in the White House and Congress had already begun asking for tighter regulation on Fannie and Freddie, and when Democrats opposed it by calling critics racists. He didn’t chair or serve as the Ranking Member of the Banking Committee and take sweetheart deals from lenders in exchange for blocking better regulation, as Chris Dodd did with his participation in the Friends of Angelo program at Countrywide.
Even where Franken gets it right, he gets it wrong. Coleman did get $2 million in contributions this cycle from Wall Street source, but those pale in comparison to Dodd and Hillary Clinton, who took millions more without even having to run for re-election in this cycle. And besides, Franken took over a half-million dollars from the same source. If Wall Street money is bad, why does Franken accept it? And if it’s not bad, then what is Franken complaining about — coming in second?
At this rate, he’ll have plenty to complain about after November 4th.

That Senate Seat should be safe. What a looney tune.

I’m not seeing whatever is supposed to be embedded there…

“Franken Truth Test”; it sounds like a torture that should be abolished by the Geneva Convention.

I have no idea what’s going on in Minnesota. Franken’s history is well documented, he should have been laughed at for even running. People scoff at Palin and falsely moan about her “lack” of experience but this clown doesn’t have ANY experience except attempting poor comedy.
Electing a muslim Congressman with very clear ties to radical islam, muslims pushing their agendas and winning and Al Franken … what the hell is up with Minnesota?

…Al Franken…a tragedy by any definition….
…an un-funny comic has-been…so, like Chevy Chase, someone who used to be a nobody….
…well…at least, with the electorate they have in Minnesota, he can make a fool of himself again…maybe we could send him one of those colorful hats with the horns with the little bells…when he spits and shouts, his head swinging back and forth would give off a jolly ringing sound….

Stuart Smalley. A Senator?…..lol.
Man have we fallen off the wagon in this country. For that guy to be eligible to run for office.

I voted for Jesse V as a protest against the weak field from both parties back in the day. I thought I was throwing my vote away, but instead I helped Ventura get in.
You third party Bob Barr wishalongs-take it from me: if there is even a small chance that Barr will get enough votes to weaken McCain so that Obama gets in, ala Clinton/Bush 41/Perot…you will have a lot on your conscience.
As for Franken…I think that the people of Minnesota are smarter than to elect him, but anyone with a “D” after his name has a shot. Even when a lot of Dems wanted someone, anyone else.
A vote for Coleman is a vote against insanity.

Does his ads end with “And I’m a lousy politician, and that’s okay.”

Shhhhh….the fourth highest tax rate, rampant blue-state liberalism, the land of Humphrey and Wellstone, the nation’s largest Somali-muslim population and an urban liberal angst that they might never be accepted by NYC blue-blood elites.
I want to move to Texas.

It’s a joke, right? I’m told that Al Franken is a ‘comedian’.

He is a lying liar who lies a lot. Please, please, please Minnesotans (hope that is correct), do not elect this smarmy tool.

I’m an outsider, (from DC) who moved here a few years ago and I have observed that Minnesotans have a wicked lack of self-esteem. They hate that they are considered “Flyover Country,” they are extremely offended when you point out that they have an accent, (while in the meantime they make fun of Southern accents and think they are better than Southerners altogether,) and they copy whatever L.A. does (smoking ban, gas taxes etc.) because they mistakenly think it makes them sophisticated. So they vote for these crazy politicians: Jesse Ventura, Keith Ellison, (he’s the first Muslim in Congress!!!) Al Franken et. al, to get attention. Yes, there are “normal” people in MN – I married one – but most of them live in Washington County.

Norm Coleman delivered his vote for a $700 Billion handout to Wall Street.
Franken is a buffoon, but Coleman is an untrustworthy rino.
