Video: McCain gets testy over media’s criticism of Palin

Via Tapper. The shot at Biden near the end for his FDR gaffe is simply golden. Is it true that the public’s still on his side vis-a-vis the ‘Cuda, though? If you believe Quinnipiac, her net favorables are now negative in Florida and Pennsylvania and even in Ohio. Pew’s national poll still has her at +11, but that’s down from +22 just two weeks ago (which is where Biden’s at now). As to whether she’s qualified to be president, the split after the first week of September was 52/39. Now: 37/51.

A good debate could work wonders. She does have it in her, as our now expectations-raising media eagerly reminds us this morning.

Now that you’re all happy (like I was) about McCain from this vid, Rush just played a tape of McCain saying he has no problem with Gwen Ifill moderating the debate despite the book as he expects her to be unscrupulously fair. ….

Palin is very much a positive for the McCain team no matter what the polls say…. you know why? To answer that consider where McCain would be right now if he would have picked Joe Lieberman.

Maxx on October 1, 2008 at 1:54 PM

SORRY, “AP”,

IN NO WAY did I sense McCain being “testy” at any time during this video.

He seemed relaxed and comfortable with his position, confident enough to tell the interviewer in no uncertain terms – without the Hollywood tooth polishing smile – that he disagreed with various premises.

THAT is a refreshing change, and a WELCOME one at that.

Lockstein13 on October 1, 2008 at 1:51 PM

“Testy” = conservatives forcefully standing up for themselves.

thirteen28 on October 1, 2008 at 1:56 PM

I have been listening to Rush this morning. We need this McCain to start calling out the Dummycrats on the financial crisis. C’mon Maverick, show that you are fighting FOR us!

Mallard T. Drake on October 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM

The closer we get to this election the more astroturf I smell.

Bob's Kid on October 1, 2008 at 2:01 PM

Agreed.

He politely laid the smack down and proved that he’s got Palin’s back.

LimeyGeek on October 1, 2008 at 2:04 PM

I like this John McCain.

Spirit of 1776 on October 1, 2008 at 2:04 PM

The Dems and their friends in the MSM have had a full court press going on against Palin since the convention. And it looks like it’s having an effect.

It’s a fine line between dissent and sedition.

I have very little trust in polls but assuming these are true, once again, where would McCain be right now with even a Mitt Romney pick. The base would be less energized and McCain would be worse off. With a Lieberman pick, McCain’s Campaign would already be over, McCain would have automatically lost with the Lieberman pick.

So all this hype and obsessing about whether Palin is as popular right now as she was when first picked is just wasted ink, it has no point or purpose because clearly McCain’s best possible pick to energize the base was Palin. Palin gives McCain the best chance to win.

And should anyone be surprised that Palin’s favorables may have fallen with all the hate that has been spewed against her by the media?

Maxx on October 1, 2008 at 2:08 PM

WHY didn’t he turn the question around to the ignorant reporter girl about OBAMA’s inexperience?

See Exhibit A: that video of Newt at the RNC. McCain should be studying that video frame by frame.

saint kansas on October 1, 2008 at 2:08 PM

This is the John McCain I know and love!

Reaganite84 on October 1, 2008 at 2:11 PM

Can we have this McCain as our President? Please?

vdocam on October 1, 2008 at 2:15 PM

If McCain is going to go on the attack over Fannie and Freddie, he will wait until after the bailout bill is passed. He won’t pull a Pelosi.

Mark1971 on October 1, 2008 at 2:16 PM

what is up with AP and Palin

KBird on October 1, 2008 at 2:17 PM

THAT’S my next president.

Testy is as testy does, Allahpundit.

Brat on October 1, 2008 at 2:18 PM

If that video is an example of “testy,” someone badly needs either a dictionary/thesaurus or an emotional evaluation. JMac held his position in a deliberate, positive, strong, respectful manner. He backed up his opinions with solid evidence, which is a lot more than Palin’s detractors have done.

marybel on October 1, 2008 at 2:18 PM

what is up with AP and Palin

KBird on October 1, 2008 at 2:17 PM

He’s probably miffed that Palin makes KP look like a bag lady.

j/k ;)

LimeyGeek on October 1, 2008 at 2:20 PM

Whenever the MSM tries to cite Sarah Palin as being inexperienced, John McCain and Sarah, need to turn the issue around and cite Obama’s inexperience and non-record during his short time in the Senate.

His tactic should be to make the media afraid of even questioning her experience, less as it would only illuminate Obama’s even further absence of any substantial experience as well.

He should also use the these media opportunities to repetitively highlight Acorn, Acorn’s relation to the GSE’s and Obama’s connection to their unscrupulous activities.

timinnc on October 1, 2008 at 2:22 PM

Why does he keep saying “fundamental”?

aengus on October 1, 2008 at 2:41 PM

The only bad thing about McCain going on the attack is that it could come off looking like a “get off my lawn” moment.

Mark1971 on October 1, 2008 at 1:30 PM

I strongly, STRONGLY disagree. I have NEVER seen McCain look sharper than in that video.

“Get off of my lawn” never occurred to me. Not in the LEAST.

I was a Giuliani supporter when this whole thing started, and I’ve never really liked John McCain. Today, at this moment, I love him. The fighter pilot has had enough, it seems – and this is the man who can turn this thing around, if “Milquetoast John” doesn’t dominate the rest of the race.

capitalist piglet on October 1, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Please quit saying that being a member of the PTA is one of her qualifications to be president.

Mark1971 on October 1, 2008 at 12:44 PM

Well I disagree, one that is ONE of the qualifications of a leader is to know who you are leading.
These “insider” chumps send their attorneys to represent them at the PTA.
It shows the “stairs” that she climbed…PTA, Board member, City Council, Mayor, Governor…or born to a rich powerful father and is now a Senator, Governor, President…
I don’t mind supporting a “common” person…

right2bright on October 1, 2008 at 2:47 PM

Testy? That was adamant. Defend her against the MSM and you will win…time to fight back.

right2bright on October 1, 2008 at 2:49 PM

EXCLUSIVE:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband’s real estate and investment firm over the past decade, a practice of paying a spouse with political donations that she supported banning last year.

carbon_footprint on October 1, 2008 at 1:38 PM

Exclusive?!?!?

Dude it’s called “news” and we all get it. Your self-importance would make Obama proud.

The Race Card on October 1, 2008 at 2:51 PM

Also, I think spending 5 years upside down, hungry, injured and getting pissed on would make anybody a little “testy.”

The Race Card on October 1, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Ok, so, I, uh, don’t like McCain and all, but DIZZAM did I like the man in that video.

spmat on October 1, 2008 at 2:58 PM

Exclusive?!?!?

Dude it’s called “news” and we all get it. Your self-importance would make Obama proud.

The Race Card on October 1, 2008 at 2:51 PM

I saw that last night, and I believe “Exclusive” was a word the Washington Times used in its headline – I don’t think it came from carbon_footprint.

capitalist piglet on October 1, 2008 at 3:04 PM

That, sir, is a man I can follow…. but is he consistent? Not that I can tell.

MNDavenotPC on October 1, 2008 at 3:05 PM

AP had reported in another outlet that McCain got testy and sarcastic to the editorial board. Tsk tsk tsk. These lefties sure have thin skin and don’t like the crown tilted on their head or their throne pillows ruffled. That woman questioning him needed to have the dog crap slapped out of her (Katie Couric type) mouth.

wepeople on October 1, 2008 at 3:23 PM

More please, Senator McCain!

brtex on October 1, 2008 at 3:28 PM

“testy”? You’ve adopted the pop psychology bullsh+t of the media and leftoids, AllahPagan.

McCain refuses to ’suffer fools gladly’, and he’s “testy”

another crap thread from an increasinly useless Cassandra

Janos Hunyadi on October 1, 2008 at 3:29 PM

This is hilarious… This liberal reporter woman can’t get over the bogus “she isn’t qualified” mantra, so no matter how many times McCain dismisses the idea, she returns to it again and again. You’re left scratching your head, saying “didn’t you just hear him explain – PTA, Mayor, Governor…”, why do you keep asserting the inexperience bullsh**? Truly pathetic, but revealing.

RightWinged on October 1, 2008 at 3:32 PM

Excellent by McCain. Especially the dig at Biden for his FDR TV fantasy.

eaglewingz08 on October 1, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Testy? Testy? Hey Allah, why don’t you grow a pair of testis?

Sugar Land on October 1, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Janos Hunyadi on October 1, 2008 at 3:29 PM

Oh ouch, harsh.

Hey wait, wasn’t Cassandra the one who was right in the end? Are we sure that’s accurate?

Grue in the Attic on October 1, 2008 at 3:59 PM

This McCain will work, everyone tell Mac be carefully and don’t lose your temper…..that’s “Bull-shit” get piss and go after these liberal pricks. For years these a/o have been bashing George Bush and he never fights back. Take the gloves off and go after these clowns.

That’s like calling something “live” just because it once aired live.

The Race Card on October 1, 2008 at 4:28 PM

John came across real well in that interview. Very presidential and not at all “testy”. Confident in his opinion and his choice. Good on him.

Jarhead68 on October 1, 2008 at 4:40 PM

try this, Grue, and remember that Cassandra is not a real person……….mythology……allegorical reference…….

In more modern literature, Cassandra has often served as a model for tragedy and Romance, and has given rise to the archetypical character of someone whose prophetic insight is obscured by insanity, turning their revelations into riddles or disjointed statements that are not fully comprehended until after the fact.

In Greek MYTHOLOGY, Cassandra’a ability to forecast the future was increasingly difficult to make sense of because she became increasingly……….not okay

Janos Hunyadi on October 1, 2008 at 4:57 PM

That’s like calling something “live” just because it once aired live.

The Race Card on October 1, 2008 at 4:28 PM

My point was that I think c/f more than likely copied and pasted the actual headline. It probably was not his/her own editorial comment at all.

capitalist piglet on October 1, 2008 at 5:16 PM

That’s “testy”? I think he was forceful and direct. Which was great.

Hog Wild on October 1, 2008 at 6:26 PM

The “experience” angle is for disengenuous people to hide behind; they lack the personal courage to state the real reasons they dislike Sarah Palin, so, they conjure up a lie and call it “lack of experience.” They truly dislike her because she is a real woman, a conservative woman and not a phoney.

Pelayo on October 1, 2008 at 7:10 PM

“Testy”? Is this from the media lexicon for when a conservative gets clear and firm? Great stuff — more “testiness”, please.

rrpjr on October 1, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Please quit saying that being a member of the PTA is one of her qualifications to be president.

Mark1971 on October 1, 2008 at 12:44 PM

It is one of her qualifications, if not a major one. Look, when Pat Robertson decided to jump into politics, he didn’t waste time running for governor or senator or representative or mayor. He went straight for the top job. I always thought that showed real bone-headedness. It’s not that there was some reason he couldn’t run for public office, but a moment’s thought should have told him that to strike for the top position the first time out would be a bad idea.

Palin by contrast worked her way up from the bottom. That’s a point in her favor, and a point of pride, not something to be embarrassed about. That she was once in the PTA helps establish her qualifications. The only way it would be an embarrassing claim is if that was her only qualification. But she’s also been mayor and governor and small business owner.

Certain people need to quit being embarrassed by her, and learn to appreciate her strengths.
