Video: Celebrities get out the vote for celebrity

posted at 9:50 pm on October 1, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via JWF, it’s same M.O. as the Paltrow ad: There’s no explicit endorsement of either candidate but everyone knows who they’re all voting for.

Why are these cretinous celebrity GOTV spots always 3-5 times as long as they should be? Face time demands?

Here you go: WELFARE and DARFUR

I thought we rolled back welfare a decade ago.

Which nominee could/would do a damn thing about Darfur or even mentioned it?

A real shame about Michelle Trachtenberg and Courtney Cox. Sigh.

Levinite on October 2, 2008 at 2:27 AM

I just sent this to 5 friends and they e-mailed me back and said there were 15 (or so) dumbasses they would not spend money on.

joeswampy on October 2, 2008 at 3:13 AM

I watched the first minute or so, but what I heard was “DON’T VOTE”!

So basically, I’m believing these asshats think most people shouldn’t vote, since the first bit of their video was spent encouraging folks to not vote.

Good job, Hollywood idiots! You’ve just told thousands of folks to not vote.

No that I’m complaining, mind ya.

Intrepid on October 2, 2008 at 3:23 AM

Got bored after the first bit about “Don’t vote”. I’m hoping all moonbats get bored at that point as well.

Intrepid on October 2, 2008 at 3:32 AM

If you want rape to be legal, don’t vote!

Vote or die!

Vote naked! (I don’t think they’ve come up with that one yet, but they can have it.)

saint kansas on October 2, 2008 at 4:28 AM

Annoying as crap. I only smiled when Courtney Arquette said, “I used to have five friends.” That was the cleverest line in the piece – which pretty much tells you how bad the whole thing was.

saint kansas on October 2, 2008 at 4:28 AM

Nothing about voting naked but one of them did say you could register to vote while you poop.

Candy Slice on October 2, 2008 at 6:43 AM

Ugh, I lasted about two minutes until I succumbed to the torture. The worst thing is that a new celebrity crush ends every time I see one of those pro-Obama montages.

They all think they are warrior poets and they are the most ridiculous people around. they’ve been programmed well.

Grafted on October 2, 2008 at 6:52 AM

Has anyone ever read “Bring on the Empty Horses” by David Niven? Very funny book about “old” Hollywood. The reason I mention it is that back in the 30′s and 40′s the heads of the studios use to work overtime to make their willful artists appear to be everyday people that embrace everyday fundamentals. Now Hollywood uses the same type artists to make us accept behaviors that are very corrosive and heroes are a thing of the past unless in cartoon form. Oh, but they disavow any cigarette that is smoked in the making of a film.

Cindy Munford on October 2, 2008 at 7:03 AM

I was thinking as DiCaprio’s last pet project, a global warming documentary of some sort, grossed about as much nationwide as your local Burger King takes in in a day, that he should get a clue he’s not really that effective a salesman.

Marcus on October 2, 2008 at 7:10 AM

THis is teh most idiotic ad I have ever seen in my life!

Plus there are at least three celebrities in this dumb ad who I USED to have respect for that I am now wondering if they are just the same bunch of certified doofus airbags as is the rest of the Hollyweird crowd!

I am now getting sick of this whole situation we have going on here! This country is going downhill with a lit rocket in its back pocket and no one is doing anything to stop it!

pilamaye on October 2, 2008 at 7:17 AM

Worst political ad I have seen in my life! Really shows the utter CONTEMPT the elite leftists in Hollywierd have for the average person. Message being the average American is STUPID! American’s have to be talked down to and shown WHAT to do and HOW to think.

Keep it UP Hollywierd, you only HURT your Messiah all the more!

Conservaboomer on October 2, 2008 at 7:37 AM

I’m confused. Is it GOTV, or GOVT?

Coronagold on October 2, 2008 at 7:50 AM

As I watched the first 30 or so seconds (couldn’t take anymore than that) I kept picturing them saying ‘Don’t watch us’, and ‘We’re nothing’, it was amusing actually.

4shoes on October 2, 2008 at 7:52 AM

Just had a local news guy describe this as a non partisan gotv effort. HAHAHAHA

aikidoka on October 2, 2008 at 7:55 AM

Jordan Yentsch on October 2, 2008 at 7:56 AM

I’ve said it before. We as Conservatives wouldn’t send a dime to the most liberal politicians campaign. Yet we send millions to Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry hand over fist. And we listen and adore these people. So, they tell the world not to drill for oil but to just check the pressure in your tires. Yeah, as they have their limo driver take them to a private airport to get on their private jet. So while they’re talking about us turning our thermostats down to safe energy, they’re living in 40,000 square foot mansions buying carbon units. While they’re telling us not to own guns, their bodyguards are packing as they patrol the perimeter of their 40,000 square foot mansion.

Put them out of business. If we collectively decided and truly were able to boycott Hollywood, we could reduce their receipts by half. Let them know how we feel

Put Hollywood Out Of Business!

It’s the media stupid!

Truer words were never written! The whole lot of them are ruining this country and we pay them to do it. Shame on us!

pannw on October 2, 2008 at 8:54 AM

hawkdriver,

You are exactly right on. At first blush, it may seem futile, or even petty, but far too many in the “entertainment” business look down on us as “hicks.” We don’t need them.

Star20 on October 2, 2008 at 8:58 AM

Way too long. I got bored with it at 1:06 and noticed it goes on for longer than 4 mins.

Then let’s do it!

I haven’t been to but one movie since I returned from overseas. Watching the media and the way it reported the war turned my stomach and I said then I’d only pick a very few actors or production companies that are worthy of my money. I personally am going to only one movie in the foreseeable future. On Oct 4th I’m taking my daughter to see American Carol. I don’t care if it’s a complete pooch. Zucker made this film for conservatives and I’ll support him.

hawkdriver on October 2, 2008 at 9:12 AM

isn’t it past the deadline yet to register?

I’m taking it in 30-45 second increments..

Sarah Silverman’s part is funny “I’m taking off my bra under my shirt while I wait” (for you to write the address down to register to vote)

I’ve seen the same concept before.. I’m sure of it.. with Kerry/Bush ..

Same deal.. don’t vote,dont vote… unless you care about _______________________ and ____________________________
then vote.. register and vote..

oh yeah.. vote liberal..

DaveC on October 2, 2008 at 9:25 AM

Am I the only one who wants to break Ashton Kushner’s jaw?

He is one of the most annoying celebutards I have ever seen..

Leo is annoying in his own way.. when he wants to be taken seriously, he squints his eyes.. such range..

but I can at least tune him out.. every time Ashton speaks it’s worse than fingernails on chalk.

DaveC on October 2, 2008 at 9:30 AM

Leo: After this, if you dont vote, I don’t know what to say to you..

(because the script is ending..)

DaveC on October 2, 2008 at 9:31 AM

And now for something really scary.

I just sent a link to that to everyone in my address book.

You guys…I’m scared

Mommypundit on October 2, 2008 at 2:13 AM

I think we all should be. But fear is a good motivator. If only our media would present the information about Obama that should be scaring voters to death! This is just surreal to me. How did we let this happen? Good men doing nothing and all that. *sigh*

pannw on October 2, 2008 at 9:40 AM

I lasted 41 seconds, then decided that picking up dog crap in the yard was a better use of my time. It just added more people to the list of whose movies I will no longer support.

Off topic but I had to share. I was reading the comments to an article and came across this. Enlightening…to say the least.

HardcoreforObama2:49PMSep 30th 2008

How dare you blaspheme against Obama.
People in flyover states shouldn’t even get a vote. You don’t know what is best for you like those of us on the coasts do. We are more enlightened and have better schools. We live in high rises and live close to our jobs and talk to our friends and know what is best for the country. We know how to take care of the environment because we see it every few years on vacation. You people who live in the country don’t love this land as much as we do. You are just stupid and hicks and cling to your guns and religion. Soon we will get rid of the fairness doctine and close down right wing talk radio and you won’t even know what to think anymore. We will restrict your guns and free speech and within a generation American will be all that it should be. You conservatives are just holding us back. Marriage is an outdated principle. God is a figment of your imaginations. Government is the answer to all questions. Let Live, Let love, let those who think like us be free to live the lives we are entitled to. We need free medical care, we need to open up the borders so all can share in the wealth we will take. We need to manufacture only non-polluting 100 percent eco friendly products. We need to stop robbing the world of its resources and stop mining, drilling, and taking from America. We need to stop importing natural resources from abroad and stop exploiting them from America. We need to outlaw all uses of energy and grow our economy. No one needs a car or transportation. It is killing our mother earth. We need to take the assets of those who have accumulated them and distribute them to all so that all is fair and good. We need to sit down and talk to our enemies. That is the only way to reach true peace and harmony. They don’t want to kill us, they just want our acceptance and love. What is wrong with you stupid neo-cons who don’t see the light. It would all be so easy if we just love one another. Obama is the way, the truth, and the light. He is the only one who can save us from those who would do us harm. He has the answers and we should follow him blindly. He shields us from the storm. He is the one.

easyrider on October 2, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Sorry, I don’t know who those people are but I faintly recognize that squinchy-eyed heavy-set black man from a video singing praise to Obama that was posted here recently.

If they are not smart enough to know they should vote, should they really be voting?

“If they don’t know how to read, should they really be voting?”
“If they can’t pay a small poll tax, should they really be voting?”

I have been doing this for years. You would not believe the comments I get from people about how stupid I am doing that. But I keep on doing it, even when it pains me. I love the movies. I can no longer support their agendas and let’s face it, when I pay to see or rent a movie, my money is going towards their political agenda. I am not doing it anymore.

Glynn on October 2, 2008 at 1:31 PM

Yeah I’m with you. It would be impossible to avoid everything. Like I said, I intend to see American Carol because Zucker made a comedy with conservatives in mind to entertain and progress conservative sentiment. And he goes on TV to espouse his post-9-11 change to conservatism. And… and, he supports conservative performers. But I don’t flock to the theater to see anything else. I don’t buy DVDs and I don’t buy CDs. If you have to see a movie renting it is actually the best way to limit what Hollywood gets in the deal. But I would be completely happy to boycott them to the point where they couldn’t afford to even produce a movie; see if they ask the government for a bail-out and then we can complain about the big paychecks the big names are getting.

And about the comments, I have even my most conservative friends railing against Matthews and Olbermann’s programs and then crow about the NBC line up of programs they watch. I just don’t waste the time on them. And it’s also surprising how much time you have for family, friends and projects when you’re not such a slave to the tube. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against being entertained by talented people. They just need to learn that they don’t get to decide what America is or should be because of their celebrity and half of their paying audience is insulted by them almost every time they open their pie-holes.

It’s the media stupid!
