Vets for Freedom ad: “Skipped”

posted at 10:50 am on October 1, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Vets for Freedom has a new ad attacking Barack Obama for his lack of attention to Iraq as well as his record of missing votes. However, VFF has more of a problem with the votes Obama managed to cast, as the ad shows:

On today’s Ed Morrissey Show, I’ll have Pete Hegseth and former California Governor Pete Wilson as my guests in the first half to discuss this new spot, as well as Senate Resolution 636 and why the Senate may not want to pass it — and acknowledge the victory in Iraq. Be sure to join us at 3 pm ET right here at Hot Air!

Yeah. McCain and outside groups needs to drive up Obama’s negatives. If middle of the road voters get to see the real Obama, a socialist who feels waaay to comfortable around people who hate America, McCain can win.

Obama brings up Afghanistan, McCains asks, “Senator, if Afghanistan is so important in YOUR view, then WHY haven’t you held a single committee meeting?”

McCain already did in the first debate. Nobody was listening–everybody wanted to blame Bush for the financial crisis.

During the second debate, McCain needs to bring up that Democrats pushed Fannie and Freddie into making bad loans, tried to reform them but Democrats filibustered, Obama got 2nd highest money from Fannie and Freddie, Frank Raines got $90 million from Fannie and advises Obama. Conclusion: Electing Obama would put fox in charge of Fannie’s henhouse.

“WHY haven’t you held a single committee meeting?”

“Committee meetings are just a distraction from the real issues of the day, which for me is the promotion of my unqualified ass straight into the Oval Office, where I’ll immediately embark upon doling out taxpayer dollars to the Marxists, criminals, terrorists and perverts who pull my strings.”

I’m Barack Obama and I approve of this message.

Gov. Palin should hut Joe Biden on this tomorrow too. Biden chairs the Foreign Relations Committee which includes Obama’s subcommittee. Why didn’t he order Obama to hold any oversight hearings? Why didn’t he insist that Obama visit Iraq and Afghanistan more often than he did Iowa?

I think McCain did so in the first debate, and it received little coverage. But swing voters really don’t care.

527’s attacking his ties to Terrorist, Racist(Wright), crooks(Rezko), etc. will.

jp on October 1, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Seriously, thank God for our troops and the vets, but I agree that swing voters are not moved by this issue, though they should be. That said, I also don’t think they care about Wright, Ayers, or Rezko, though they should.

Voters in states other than Massachusetts, Connecticutt, Delaware, and Illinois cannot vote out Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, John Kerry, Joe Biden, and Obama. But they can potentially block these losers and their roles in Fannie and Freddie with a McCain-Palin vote. But McCain’s not making this case.

BuckeyeSam on October 1, 2008 at 11:13 AM

I hope all the 527s were waiting to make a last month push. They saw how Hillary pulled the Wright stuff out too late for some states and too early for others and she went nowhere. If they stick to the last 3 weeks, plastering the net and TV with ads they may make up some ground.

Just yesterday I was thinking of working on an ad over the weekend. I figure the ad would focus on his lack of voting in the Ill. Senate and in his congressional votes, how he had aides fill out his senate questionaires and how he didn’t lift a finger for this bailout deal.

Senator Present!

This should be the theme of McCain’s campaign for the duration. 130 Present votes in the Illinois Senate. Not voting in the U.S. Senate. No hearings of his subcommittee. Ducking when Russia invaded Georgia. Not leading his own party on the financial rescue legislation.

We can’t afford a President who votes Present!

rockmom on October 1, 2008 at 11:17 AM

It makes a point but as is the case with all of these recent ads — who cares? Everyone, even the undecideds know that Obama is a snake oil salesman. Clinton was too and he dispatched Bush the Elder and Dole. I don’t fault McCain for this since it isn’t his ad but these do nothing.

When the swiftboaters got Kerrey they painted him as both un-American and as trying to rewrite history. Obama is simply seen as someone who was against the war in Iraq and detatched when it came to voting. Sorry but these are so low on the priority list of Americans.

The only effective ads that will work now have to show Obama in the pocket of Wall Street, have to show him as an out and out liar, friend of admitted terrorists, and have to show that he will tax and spend us into a recession.

“Victory in Iraq???

First I’ve heard of it….”

The sound of victory is the deafening silence of our incompetent and biased media refusing to report it.

What, do you think Democrats and the media would have a ticket tape parade for a military victory? This isn’t 1946.

The Democrats had to scotch plans for a humiliating march out of Baghdad under fire though, that was going to be their victory parade.

Barack Obama is a brainless, balless clown act and we did win, no thanks at all to him. But rest assured, Barack’s Al Qaeda buddies appreciated all that he did to try and secure THEIR victory.

Obama was never chair of any committee overseeing Afghanistan. The only committee he was a chair of was the European Sub-committee under the Committee on Foreign Relations. So this ad is complete and utter bullsh*it.

However, he did attend one Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Afghanistan, which is one more than McCain ever did.

McCain missed all 6 Senate Armed Service Committee meetings on Afghanistan.

Buford Gooch on October 1, 2008 at 1:43 PM

“Barack Obama has missed 303 votes”

Personally, I’d be happier with Obama if he had missed 100% of the votes and 100% of the meetings.

After all, his snoring might have disturbed the Republicans.

What does clown Obama have to contribute with regards to a meeting or a vote anyway? He can leverage his vast experience as a Community Organizer to point us in the right direction in Afghanistan?

Of course not. Obama would just show up, read a speech written for him and then vote the Democrat Party line.

Obama has nothing to offer and nothing to contribute. Just a George Soros puppet.

Back from the drivethru, Dave?

Personally, I think the ad took the wrong tack.

I’d rather see an ad asking Obama to attend fewer, not more meetings.

Why ask a unqualified, terrorist supporter into a meeting where classified information would be discussed?

The real question here is, how is it that a guy like Obama, who regularly pals around with people who advocate the violent overthrow of the United States Government, is permitted to attend meetings where classified information is discussed?

Seems to me, Obama should have been barred from the Capitol years ago, just as he should be barred from the White House.

That’s the real issue. Not whether a dope like Obama, who has nothing to contribute, attended a few meetings.
