New Spanish-language McCain ad: Joe Biden thinks Mexico is “dysfunctional”!

posted at 4:57 pm on October 1, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

Yeah, crazy Joe and his crazy ideas. Here’s the source for his “dysfunctional” comment. Try to contain your outrage.

Joe Biden shared his views on illegal immigration with an Iowa crowd, saying that the solution starts with big changes in the Mexican economy.

“They’re being irresponsible. This is the second-wealthiest nation in the hemisphere – we’re not talking about Sierra Leone,” the Democratic presidential candidate said. “This is a dysfunctional society.”

The full translated script follows below. Exit question one: Who exactly is supposed to take exception to what Biden said? If Mexican immigrants turned U.S. citizens didn’t (fundamentally) agree with him, they wouldn’t be here. Exit question two: How “functional” is a government that distributes instructions to its citizens on how to sneak out of the country?

ANNCR: So what’s worse? That Barak Obama and his allies in Congress killed immigration reform?

Or that their immigration attacks were called “unfair” … “absolutely and directly wrong” … and even “fraudulent” by the press.

Or that Obama and his liberal allies think the U.S. has an immigration problem because Mexico is a quote, “dysfunctional society”.

They’ve said no to us long enough. This election, let’s tell them no.

JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approve this message.

It’s one of the world’s most resource rich countries and yet it also manages to be a poor country. It’s heavily dependent upon money the US sends it as well as remittances from the millions of Mexican citizens that have escaped to more prosperous places.

So, other than the fact that you just don’t say those kinds of things these days, where is Biden wrong?

JadeNYU on October 1, 2008 at 5:06 PM

Perhaps the U.S. is simply less dysfunctional; seeing the Congressional hysterics over the bailout disaster makes me believe it more with each passing day.

TexasJew on October 1, 2008 at 5:08 PM

Biden is right.

We seem to twist ourselves in knots about the illegal immigration issue while ignoring the fact that Mexico simply exports its citizens rather than providing for them. It’s absurd.

Heaven forbid that we should hold Mexico accountable for their own people.

For once Biden speaks the truth, and John McCain, tries to make him look stupid.

McCain has officially lost it fellas. He is 180 degress out of phase.

I guess McCain’s new motto is:

“If your gonna lose, might as well lose by a whole lot!”

TheHat on October 1, 2008 at 5:11 PM

Biden’s most endearing quality is that occasionally he lets the truth slip out.

DFCtomm on October 1, 2008 at 5:11 PM

Mexico IS dysfunctional – nobody knows that better than a Mexican. Bribes, corruption, and incompetence are a part of daily government action for those people.

TheUnrepentantGeek on October 1, 2008 at 5:11 PM

I think Biden is right on the money calling Mexico dysfunctional. But it isn’t their fault.

McDonald’s and Home Depot just didn’t outsource enough stores to Mexico.

leetpriest on October 1, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Biden is quite an interesting one. Liberal politicians often know just how crazy the world is and how crazy their own positions are – they’re just supposed keep that hidden so they can keep profiting from it.

Biden seems to know Mexico is basically insane, but he’s not supposed to say it!

Silly attack, but it’s got backward, left-wing tactic potential. It opens McCain to lots of criticism.

Allah, would you please, please let McCain try to win 16% or 17% of the Hispanic vote, as opposed to the 12% or 13% he’ll get if he doesn’t try harder?

Much as many here disagree with him about immigration, he is a legitimate champion of less restrictive immigration policies. (Actually, that so many here are suspicious of him mostly because of the illegal immigration issue proves the point.)

Every vote counts. If New Mexico comes down to a few hundred votes (as it did in 2004), we won’t begrudge him this ad.

JudetheFossil on October 1, 2008 at 5:15 PM

Biden finally gets something right, though he still had to throw out a piece of evidence of his extreme stupidity about the wealth of nations in our hemisphere.

Doesn’t matter, anyway. Both BHO and McCain will open the floodgates. Yes, we are all screwed. Nothing but a severe recession will be able to drain the illegals from our country, since we all know that our government is totally incapable of doing anything that takes brains or guts or a commitment to the rule of law.

progressoverpeace on October 1, 2008 at 5:27 PM

The citizenship oath does still make you renounce all allegiances to other nations, right? So why this ad? Making non-English ads is one thing, but making ads designed to appeal to your love of another country seems another step up to me.

kc8ukw on October 1, 2008 at 5:28 PM

Excellent ad….if you want people to vote for Biden.

What a total and complete jackass ad. I honestly cant believe it.

I live in socal and let me tell you something in case you hadnt noticed…Mexico is a shithole. Yeah, the resorts are nice and its a great place to get drunk if you are 17 or something but the government there has made that country a shithole.

McCain doesnt know that cause he is stupid as hell. How the hell am I supposed to vote for this idiot? Oh yeah…obama is worse (I think).

You know, I think I like Biden more than McCain…but I hate Obama the worst so I am all blasted.

Roger Waters on October 1, 2008 at 5:28 PM

Uh… guys?

There’s a big difference between saying another country’s government is dysfunctional and saying their society is dysfunctional.

No doubt many Americans of Mexican heritage would agree that the governance of Mexico is screwed up, but calling their society dysfunctional speaks against the entire country and culture.

Hollowpoint on October 1, 2008 at 5:31 PM

It does. Multiculturalism leads to balkanization. Look at the UK if you don’t believe it.

We don’t even have to look that far. All you have to do is travel to Illinois, where their motto is “America’s CHICKENS……………is come home…….to rooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooost”

leetpriest on October 1, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Even a blind squirrel can find a nut now and then.

Come on everyone, stand up for Joe!

Bishop on October 1, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Stupid ad. McCain needs to stay away from this subject altogether. Now, how does Palin respond to a question along this line tomorrow night? He put her in a box.

a capella on October 1, 2008 at 5:33 PM

If Mexican immigrants turned U.S. citizens didn’t (fundamentally) agree with him, they wouldn’t be here.

That is true but it also doesn’t stop immigrants from marching with Mexican flags and thinking that Mexico is a great country. I know that doesn’t make sense since there was obviously something that made them leave, but that is what they think. That is why the ad will be more effective than you give it credit for.

And I agree with Hollowpoint.

A society that openly takes a fat piss on a neighboring country’s immigration laws, consistently builds tunnels to funnel drugs, illegal aliens (which eats up your tax dollars, mind you), and enslaved prostitutes, and thinks that the sanitary way to cut up a watermelon is to kill a live chicken with a butcher knife first, and not clean it off before cutting up the watermelon with the same knife.

One thing I have often wondered is whether there might be any Hispanic readers/writers on this blog and whether any of you feel more favorable to McCain because he speaks directly to Hispanics(en espanol), or are you righteously insulted by the whole craven panderfest?

A society and it’s government aren’t completely independent of each other, but a society is defined by it’s people, not it’s government. I’m sure you can think of some examples that illustrate the point.

Would you have no problem if, in response to any particular US government policy, someone called American culture dysfunctional? Or do you believe that the US government and the politicians thereof are completely representative of society at large?

For any extended period of time? I don’t think so. If you have an example in mind, I’d be happy to consider it. But, given the fact that there are many societies and many governments, there should be a plethora of such examples.

Would you have no problem if, in response to any particular US government policy, someone called American culture dysfunctional?

I don’t really care what others think of America. And our government is reflective of our society. Not in every single little decision, obviously, but for the great bulk of actions, policies, and attitudes.

Either you have a much better opinion of our politicians or a much worse view towards American society than I do.

Hollowpoint on October 1, 2008 at 6:41 PM

Or perhaps you’re delusional or just plain stupid. Take Dodd, Frank, Cox, Paulson, Pelosi, Reid, Waters, Boxer, Obama, Clinton (The list goes on and on and on), and compare them to your average elitist liberal citizen. Compare them on terms of revenue and spending, lack of morality, distaste for life, hatred for guns, and self-righteous.

Your rebuttal, sir?

Your rebuttal, sir?

Not forthcoming. You are not worthy of my time. Let the nice sane people talk.

He actually asked a pretty good question, one I’d like your answer to as well.
