527 ads push the limit

How far can 527 groups go before they create more of a backlash than forward momentum? Opposing 527s have unveiled ads that may answer that question. A pro-Obama 527 makes an issue of McCain’s health and Sarah Palin’s inexperience, while a pro-McCain group talks about Obama’s connections with William Ayers, Tony Rezko, and Jeremiah Wright.
Let’s give the opposition first shot:
By comparison, this ad is much more mild — more fact-based, for one thing, and even understated. Obama didn’t just “associate” with William Ayers, he worked with Ayers for years at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and the Woods Fund. Rezko raised over $250,000 for Obama, who lied twice about the funding during the course of this campaign.
The most controversial part of the ad will be the Jeremiah Wright link. Obama already threw his former pastor under the bus and quit Trinity United Church of Christ, and his supporters will argue that this is old news. Still, Obama sat in his church for over 20 years while Wright offered his radical, conspiratorial theories on race and American politics, and Obama didn’t break those ties until Wright suggested that Obama was just playing politics by publicly rebuking him.
JCW decided to take the high road in its approach. National Nurses Organizing Committee took a decidedly different approach.

Ed, there are so many 527 commericals out there right now.. it is making my head spin. I just turn them now, because they don’t show the truth anywhere anymore.

Sorry, but the nurse’s 527 is no longer available.
So sad. Looks like it got lost amidst the clutter of bedpans.

Look for team Barry to try to nuke their failed ads and the 527s to do the same….
fact is we need people to save these for oppo use by us when/if we go to the wilderness….
the fairness doctrine is gonna be hard to overcome and if Barry brings America to Chicago so to speak winning any election may well require blood.

The Judicial Confirmation Network’s ad might the the best political ad I’ve ever seen. Awesome in every respect, I hope it gets very wide distribution.

I like the cross in the second ad.

Ummmmmm, what was the point of this thread?
McCain /Repbulicans / conservatives are more accurate and far less dishonest that Obama/ Democrats / liberals?
Only the snarky trolls here don’t already know that; everyone else has been aware of it for years and years
but, as always, repeating Known Truths is good………

“One heartbeat, one heartbeat…” Catchy tune. Maybe Puff Daddy Da Diddy can sample it in his next album.
Wouldn’t Obama be one Biden heartbeat away from running things if the two of them were elected?
Even if McCain does die or become incapacitated (God-forbid), wouldn’t Palin just pick an experienced person to be her VP… kind of like Obama did?
Abby Adams on October 1, 2008 at 3:10 PM
Hmmmmmmm … Maybe McCain can hire those Missouri prosecutors and sheriffs who said they’re only interested in the truth.

Well Ed, at least the Ayers, Wright, Rezko ones actually have merit.
The health ones for McCain are just stupid compared to former presidents and their health issues.

I happen to have a dog in this fight.
My mom was the VP of the largest nurse’s organization in the world – the NLN – the National League for Nursing – back in the 1960’s.
She’d have slap that stupid bitch in the face for this fraud.
TexasJew on October 1, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Even scarier, someone ought to run an ad reminding Americans that Hillary Clinton would be available for Obama’s Supreme Court nominations.
Texas Rainmaker on October 1, 2008 at 3:14 PM
wait….so Obama would nominate William Ayers to the Supreme Court?
crr6 on October 1, 2008 at 3:14 PM
The nurses ad is amazing in its presentation of rumors that have already been debugged. This would be the same as an ad claiming Obama is a Muslim, was born in Africa and met Ayers when he was eight and helped set the fuses…..except Obama’s brown shirts would be jamming the courts with law suits.
Hening on October 1, 2008 at 3:14 PM
Can the libs ever go too far? will it ever backfire? We thought the vicious, hateful attack against Palin would backfire but they seem to have been doing a good job bringing her favorables down.

Here in St.Louis I’m seeing almost no push-back from McCain and virtually nothing from pro-McCain 527s. Admittedly I only have broadcast tv so I would be interested to know if any one in Missouri is seeing anything on cable. Has the Missouri Truth Squad achieved its end?

Yes, and Obama is just one unreconstructed racist with a deer rifle away from making greasy Joe Biden president. Everyone OK with that?

A friend who supports Osama Obama asked me yesterday who this “Tony Rezko” person is. She had never heard of him or, for that matter, William Ayers, who was plotting treason before she was born.
Unless more ads like that get out, we’re really in deep, deep trouble.
As for the “nurses’” ad, it’s no worse than what the NY Times, WaPoo and other MSM outlets peddle every day. Get used to it. They will be the only sources of news after Obama takes over.
Lies, misrepresentations and deceit in the name of The Messiah are the new normal.
Come to think of it, we’re doomed.
MrScribbler on October 1, 2008 at 3:22 PM
527s are the best chance McCain has to win, since he’s been hesitant to air Obama’s personal negatives.

That would be AWESOME. However, I’m not sure if Limbaugh regularly interviews candidates. Only one he’s spoken to this year was Huck, and that was long after he was out of the running. ‘Course, I’ve only been listening to Rush for about 4 months so I might be wrong.

Ah, so the Left’s playbook is to discredit all 527s by making theirs over the top. Then once The Dear Leader Obamassiah is in office, the government will close them all down, in the interest of “fairness” of course.

I’m sure the nurses union will love it when healthcare is nationalized and they get stuck caring for 45 patients for $10.00 an hour and being ordered around by non-English speaking doctors from the University of Yemen. Like their Canadian and UK counterparts.
You can make six figures as an RN these days. Once they realize what they’ve lost, it’s going to be too late.
NoDonkey on October 1, 2008 at 3:28 PM
I have no doubt he would if he thought he could get Ayers through the confirmation process. After all, he owes Ayers, big time.
But Obama’s other nominations are going to be bad enough. He’s already told us he intends to nominate judges who know what it feels like to be a single mother on welfare. Because that’s what we want in judges, right? Not a jurist who will apply the law in a fair and impartial manner. No, we need judges who will sympathize with the minority party, and make rulings based on emotion, not on the law or the facts of the case. So if you’re a corporation or a white person who’s a party to a lawsuit, prepare to be screwed. Obama’s going to implement his version of “social justice” in our courtrooms, just like he’s going to do with our tax code (redistributing income to make life more “fair” for minorities, illegal aliens, and other “historically underprivileged” groups).
AZCoyote on October 1, 2008 at 3:29 PM
No, much like other industries, Obama will make sure they all unionize and make sure they’re well paid on our dime to buy their votes in future elections. GET OUT AND VOTE, PEOPLE!

You’ve missed some real classics over the years, but not to worry. Rush just keeps getting better. I’ve been listening to him since 88 and the only thing he’s ever caved on is silencing his abortion update intro (vacuum cleaner running with woman’s scream in the background). Personally, I think it was his advertisers that forced that axe to fall.

I saw an ad yesterday that I think was actually a campaign produced one for Obama. There were two mistakes in it about how health insurance works (I should know, I work for a health insurance company):
1. “out of control costs” by insurance companies. First of all, it’s the health care providers who are massively overcharging for health care, not the insurance companies. You want to blame out of control costs of health care? Look at the doctors, the hospitals, the skilled nursing facilities. Not the insurance companies.
2. Unfair pre-existing conditions thingies. pre-existing conditions policies were implemented via the request of employers (who provide insurance for their workers) to help control the costs of out of control healthcare. Insurance companies didn’t come up with that on their own, the groups purchasing insurance provided the impetus to impose pre-ex waiting periods on people.
Ahhh, fact check.
mjk on October 1, 2008 at 3:39 PM
Yes! The general public (including many Obama voters) does NOT know about Ayers & Rezko!
Each one needs their own ad. The problem with cramming so many associates into one ad is that each isn’t given enough detail.

Those were “caller abortions.” To illustrate the absurdity of the pro-choice position he would occasionally “abort” a caller who was giving him a hard time. The scream in the background of the vacuum cleaner noise was eventually used as the background whenever he played a soundbite of Teddy Kennedy talking, filtered as if the senator were speaking under water.
I remember one show where he aborted a caller and the next caller laced into him about what a horrible thing that was to do on the radio. He immediately aborted her, saying “There you have it, ladies and gentlemen…back to back caller abortions here on the Rush Limbaugh program.”
I laughed so hard I nearly pissed myself. Rush was way edgier in those days and, frankly, that’s the Rush I prefer.
Remember his gay community updates featuring Klaus Nomi?

How dare the California Nurses Association presume to speak for all nurses, which is exactly what their ad implies. While I am sure there are a number of nurses who do support Obama, and socialized medicine, there are still many of us who understand what an overall negative impact that would have on healthcare in the US. This ad is just one of the reasons I always fight to keep the union out of the hospital where I work.
BeachBaby on October 1, 2008 at 4:45 PM
We must defeat Obama!
mindhacker on October 1, 2008 at 4:53 PM
The California Nurses Association is the lead organization pushing for the unionization of health care workers and were huge supporters of the Michale Moore film “Sicko.” In fact, as part of their campaign to enact certain legislation in Texas that would start our great state on the path to unionized nurses, they sent every RN in the State of Texas a Sicko promotion kit.
However, the CNA/NNOC’s support of Obama is interesting since they are very much against SEIU, an Obama darling. They are not happy with the SEIU adding certain segments of the health care industry under their umbrella, that is their turf.

The left does not have a monopoly on dishonesty. See Phil Gramm and his not-so-honest role in batting for UBS and Carly Fiorina’s proven failure at Hewlett Packard. Both of them are now associated with McCain(formally or informally). That does not help for keeping good company.
I’ve yet to hear much from the former and hear next to nothing about the latter. It is one thing to be a “lone gunman”; it is another to have a role in business failure for personal gain (and use the government to do so for both of them).

Carly’s was hardly a failure; even the board and execs at HP have admitted as much.
The worst you can say about Phil Gramm is that he wrote legislation that “caused the meltdown.” That was 1999. It would have shown up a lot sooner had that actually been the case. As for him lobbying for UBS, well, the man is an economics professor. Did you expect him to be lobbying for Libya or something?

See HP’s performance before, during Fiorina, and the performance well after the 7% jump(on her departure). Her support of using H1-B work to bypass citizens(and gutting well-performing staff at HP to its detriment) does not help her case as well. Fine if you want to do so, but it’s hardly the message you want to send (that you’re willing to defend turning against your own country).
If her name is known well enough to limit her to H1-B advocacy(versus going to another company), she’s already damaged goods.
It had its role in causing the meltdown. He used our government for the benefit of UBS, with the unintended consequences of today.
That’s all that needs to be said about Gramm.

When using 527s conservatism & liberalism show their true colors. It is good to criticize & the Judiciary ad did a good job of pointing out Obama’s true associations.
The Nurses just repeated false rumors & 1/2 truths.
But sadly, there are so many stupid people who do not take the time to research their candidate’s backgrounds.
