Video: Where was Dodd during the Fannie Mae collapse?

posted at 11:20 am on September 30, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

At least one media outlet wonders where Chris Dodd went while Fannie Mae went belly-up on its binge of bad mortgage paper. Unfortunately, that curiosity is limited to Fox News Channel, which almost guarantees that other mainstream media outlets won’t cover it. While Al Hubbard tends to lay all of the blame off on Democrats, when Republicans had plenty of time to act as well, at least he’s directing the spotlight where it really belongs:

Hubbard notes that the Bush administration long supported reform at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He also tells viewers that the House managed to pass Fannie/Freddie reform when Republicans had the majority, but Chris Dodd killed it in the Senate Banking Committee. Dodd, Hubbard reminds us, took the most money from Fannie/Freddie sources, and had little incentive to press for tighter oversight.

Where was Dodd? Where was Frank? Where were the recipients of Fannie/Freddie money during the years in which Fannie Mae’s fraudulent business practices were exposed? They were in the pockets of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and busy telling us that no problem existed — and that regulators who reported the irregularities were racists. They sold us out — and the media has let them off the hook.

The GD Democrats need to be made to pay for seting this train in motion and then preventing any reform when a crash was evident. I’m spitting mad that the MSM woun’t discuss the Dems involvement in this nor will the GOP open up their mouths. They should be screaming from the rooftops.

The media let them off the hook????? What about us, the American people? We should not let them off the hook!!! We need to fight this and these people are at best, incompetent and at worst, criminals!!!!! I say we start a grassroots movement to demand accountability!!!! They have no shame.

Typical McCain “campaign” comments;

“My friends, this is no time for partisan attacks. We must reach across the aisle to solve this crisis. Pointing fingers at my good friends does no good. We must all work together to solve this problem created during this Republican administration. Thank you very much.”

This entire election year has got to be the biggest abortion ever.

Communism has come to America and it isnt even hiding anymore. The MSM should all be stripped over their licenses and replaced with viable media.

Either that or the people need to grab arms and fight before it is to late for us all.

THis is absolutely a total and complete abortion by the media.

Yup. And unless Mac pulls out the long knives, it’s pretty much over – for his campaign and for the republic.

Time to review the Declaration of Independence and update it in preparation for secession.

I say to Senator McCain, “No more Mister Nice Guy.” “Call out the names of who’s responsible for the economic problem.” It is so clear on who did what or who did nothing at all. While Democrats continue to blame President Bush as a smoke screen, they continue to look for ways to fill their pockets at the taxpayer’s expense.

He is acting like nice old “Uncle Johnny” who can’t say a bad word about anybody. Fine, Johnny. Don’t fight back. Your legacy would be that you were an honorable loser.

As someone said above, name ‘em and shame ‘em. But beginning two weeks ago, McCain needed to repeat that a vote for him is a vote against Dodd and Frank. Has McCain ever had any hope of taking Connecticut and Massachusetts. Frank will be reelected in all events in November and Dodd will get reelected whenever he’s next up. Seriously, who would McCain alienate? The hard left?

I have seen Huckahu Akbhar more than them! We need to get messages to them and tell them what needs to be said and perhaps if THEY were out there hard hitting it would make a difference. McCain is coming off flat when speaking on this stuff and if he had some more energetic mouth pieces out there perhaps that would make a difference. RED PHONE ALERT, RED PHONE ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gospel Exalted

Unbelief and Its Consequences

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

He also tells viewers that the House managed to pass Fannie/Freddie reform when Republicans had the majority, but Chris Dodd killed it in the Senate Banking Committee.

From day one the Repubs should have had copies of this bill, waiving it in the camera, and telling the people what happened. Between the 2005 McCain speech on the Issue, The Repubs and Bush pushing the issue in 2002 and the connections between Dodd and the 2 groups, this should be a Republican gold mine.

Has there ever been a stronger case to be made for limiting the size and scope of the federal government? The bigger government gets, the less transparent it becomes. The Democrats always push for larger government. The Republicans were falling into that trap as well, which is why many conservatives let them fail in ‘06.

America needs to get back to the basics – a smaller, more efficient federal government.

same thing here in NC, and the Dem. Governor is blaming the Oil Companies for it

I don’t know. When I suggested my Dem conspiracy to my husband, he asked me if I know who Alex Jones is. When there is gas, it’s been $4.30 for regular.

I think not only is this an attempt to make sure the economy is as bad as it can get so the peeps vote for Obama, they are also setting us up for a Dem governor to win in 2010 by making our Republican Gov. and Lt. Gov. look bad.

I like the pitchfork scenario more and more. I do beleive we should not stop at DC but proceed to NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and work our way to the papers. I value our tradition too much to let it dissolve in front of my eyes. The only lifeline I need from my fellow citizens is their moral support and well-wishes. I ask for nothing else.

Doesn’t sound good for your Gov. I wouldn’t put it past these corrupt dems as far as manipulating MANY problems we have going on right now.

Alex Jones sounds like a nut, though – I looked him up at Wiki.

Blame your state and local governments, who refused to allow refineries in your states. You also only have one pipeline into the region, the Colonial.

I’m having a lot of fun reading this. I detect no philosophical depths that are going to save America, but I do see a lot of unintended humor. This thread has gotten completely off topic (Where was Dodd?). So let’s continue in this vein…

On another thread, some have talked about an electorial tie – you know 269 to 269. The vote would go to the house
for resolution. Well, the House votes by state; 31 reds to 19 blues. All the other senarios are imaginary.

On this thread variance – Why should the red states secede (even if they could)? The red states own this country; they own the area, the energy, the gold, the ICBMs, the military bases, some of the mints, etc. The blue states own a lot of rust, some trading banks (that are separate from the rest of the banking system) and a lot of people with Ds stamped on their arses when they were born. I think the most likely scenario would be to just let the blue states go their own way and freeze in the dark while they are starving.

To the guys who are ready to take their guns and start a revolution; start it where? Are you going to take a bus to New York with your arms stash? If the barbarians were coming down your street, where would you go to get organized or to find out what to do? Are you going to stand by yourself? Most people don’t particularly like their neighbors; are you going to open fire on the sheriff when he comes for your neighbor’s weapons? You guys don’t have a clue! But you are funny!
