Video: Where was Dodd during the Fannie Mae collapse?

posted at 11:20 am on September 30, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

At least one media outlet wonders where Chris Dodd went while Fannie Mae went belly-up on its binge of bad mortgage paper. Unfortunately, that curiosity is limited to Fox News Channel, which almost guarantees that other mainstream media outlets won’t cover it. While Al Hubbard tends to lay all of the blame off on Democrats, when Republicans had plenty of time to act as well, at least he’s directing the spotlight where it really belongs:

Hubbard notes that the Bush administration long supported reform at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He also tells viewers that the House managed to pass Fannie/Freddie reform when Republicans had the majority, but Chris Dodd killed it in the Senate Banking Committee. Dodd, Hubbard reminds us, took the most money from Fannie/Freddie sources, and had little incentive to press for tighter oversight.

Where was Dodd? Where was Frank? Where were the recipients of Fannie/Freddie money during the years in which Fannie Mae’s fraudulent business practices were exposed? They were in the pockets of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and busy telling us that no problem existed — and that regulators who reported the irregularities were racists. They sold us out — and the media has let them off the hook.

O’Reilly says he is going to attack Frank on his show tonight. Hope he includes Dodd.

Well, after that spleen venting tirade against talk radio and the Bush Admin he went on the other day…his credibility, if he ever had any, is in the crapper.

IT’S ALL BUSHES FAULT!!!

BigWyo on September 30, 2008 at 1:20 PM

If McCain were smart he could make some points with this in the next debate.

Obama repeating his one line answer to everything: What we see here is the result of 8 years of failed Bush policies…

McCain could easily interupt: No Barack, what we see here is something that you’ve repeatedly claimed is wrong with Washington. The senate banking comitee chair Chriss Dodd in the pocket of lobbyists who because of that influence repeatedly resisted the needed reform to groups like Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. Only this time it’s going on in your party and you haven’t made a peep about it. Oh, and did I mention that you were the second leading recipient of money from those same lobbyist? Sorry to interupt Barack, please go on and tell me about how you are a reformer and a post partisan leader who will bring both parties together to get tough legislation like this bailout we sor urgently need. Oh yeah, I forgot, you didn’t even manage to work to get memebers of your own party to make a tough vote on it.

What really galls me is that obviously Hurricane Ike was worse than Katrina as far as long term power outages, etc. but how would we know that without it being reported???

I don’t think McCain or the Republicans CAN point fingers to the Dems that caused this…YET.
The Dems have a majority and they WILL pass some bill with BILLIONS for ACORN, La RAZA and scores of additional Left Wing bailout plans that would put Republicans out of office for decades.
.
The Dems would BUY socialism into America.
.
We should have the MEDIA to tell us the truth, but it is NOT happening. Thats a crime as well.
.
Why do you think Pelosi really went on her rant yesterday? To blame forever, on the record, that this was the Bush admin and the Republicans fault when clearly it was NOT.
.
Get your emails and calls going to all local and national TV stations/networks and demand to know what Barney and Dodd were doing.
Send them video, get everyone to tell the reality here.

Thirteen percent of the preceeding posts have been lamenting about the media. Don’t worry folks. Next year the broadcast media will not significantly exist – everything will be on cable or satellite (even the MSM broadcasting). Without the mainstream broadcasting’s special place in the airwaves, they are nothing. At the rate the newspapers are folding, they won’t be around much longer either. Journalism is not dying; it is committing suicide.

Kind of like saying: Not to worry about this botulism-contaminated soup…we’ll just trasnfere it to a Tupperware container.

These magicical themed gangs that will split off states and form another country to protect their guns and their right to form another Yugoslavia will have a ratio of about 3:1 membership of fed undercover agents and confidential informants to that of actual members. Should be fun to watch.

Not without the Repubs help. It takes 60 votes in the senate to get these things passed.

Gangs? Another Yugoslavia? Are you serious? I’m talking about a second Continental Congress, followed by a declaration of independence. Unless the Obama regime plans on striking down the Bill of Rights or resurrecting the Alien and Sedition Acts, what are the Feds going to do?

ManlyRash on September 30, 2008 at 2:26 PM

This is what happens when you turn over matters of importance to syphilitic rump rangers like the corrupt and incompetent Barney “Buttf***” Frank.

Just another in a long line of worthless Democrat perverts.

Anyone who ever cast a vote for Barney Buttf*** should be walking around with their bag over their head today.

NoDonkey on September 30, 2008 at 3:24 PM

If McCain does not name names soon and expose the democrats duplicity I don’t believe I will vote at all in November.

He allowed SP to be vicously attacked by the MSM and now he will allow the dems to bankrupt the country in the spirit of ” reaching across the aisle ” ?

Stand up today old man – or go home.

Did you hear about the new hot dog over at Fenway, it’s called Barney’s Frank, and if you don’t like it, you can shove it up your asss!
