As far as the House GOP leadership blaming Pelosi’s “partisan” speech for the bailout failure, here's Mort Kondracke's comments on Brit Hume's special report the other night:

But, look, the idea that Nancy Pelosi, odious though her remarks were, and I got to say that, chased off a bunch of Republicans is nonsense.

When I talked to Republicans a couple hours before her remarks, and they were saying the best we're going to get is 70, so they ended up with 66. So maybe she scared off four, but that's about as much as she scared off.

Oh yes, let’s forget about the 12 years of GOP control of the house and the last 8 years of Bush … guess you missed all those years where the GOP had an opportunity to FIX a problem you claimed was there?

If your interested, look up H.R.1461 Federal Housing Finance Reform Act of 2005 (Engrossed as Agreed to or Passed by House) on Thomas (109th Congress).

I disagree, AP that her speech isnt sufficient reason. I wouldn’t vote yes after hearing that insult. The democrats created this mess going all the way back to Mr peanut and made infinitely worse by Clintoon.

And many didn’t want to

Yes, God will protect our nation. But read through I & II Kings and I II Chronicles. When a nation goes against God’s precepts, He sends judgement to try to get it back on track.

Love this one.

God's mad at us for our sinful ways, so he delivers judgment in the form of bad home loans.

About irresponsible and runaway monetary (and fiscal) policy, absolutely. But anyone with a brain knew that. We all still know it.

As to the idea that one must have a gold standard for the currency, I can't agree with that. If the government cannot control itself managing a fiat currency, then it probably can't control itself with anything and is slated for doom, anyway. I'd be very amenable, however, to something like Constitutional restrictions on the size of the federal government - perhaps stating that the Fed budget cannot exceed x% of the GDP.

I like Ron Paul, but he took libertarianism to a goofy level and his foreign policy was sort of "head-in-the-sand" stuff.

That is the result of short-sightedness: Vote down this plan, and get a Socialist President. Yes, it’s that simple.

Tommygun on September 29, 2008 at 10:11 PM

Wrong, TG. Up or down, the media is now controlling the minds of enough nitwit swing voters that we look to get the socialist puppet no matter what we do on this vote.

Answer: head for the hills.

Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing. When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it.

Screw all those politician bastards…maybe its time for a good old fashioned Boston Tea Party.

Taxes are patriotic. Those boneheads in the 1700's didn't have a clue.

Today we heave the tea back on the ship, bend over and beg the government in a sorrowful voice: "Kick my ass"

Hmmm, Maybe my point wasn’t succinct.

You were and are still traitors.

For opposing the war? In that case, good, I'm a proud traitor! :D

Lou Dobbs has a poll up to vote on.
I wish John McCain would allow Sarah P to review all of
the videos & documentation on who caused this mess, name
names and shut the Dems mouth. I know SHE can talk!! I am
tired of our side not telling the truth about this & allow
ing the other side just blaming us!!

In politics, you're either on offense or you're on defense. Not nearly enough offense from the Repubs and Conservatives...

So we blocked the $700 biliion just to allow Paulsen to do whatever he wants anyway? Look at this:
And as part of the deal, Citi agreed to absorb $42 billion in prospective losses from Wachovia's $312 billion loan portfolio. The remaining $270 billion exposure, however, is being handed off to U.S. taxpayers in exchange for $12 billion in Citi preferred stock and warrants. But that's a deal Washington regulators and policymakers were willing to take. In a statement announcing the Wachovia deal, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson noted that a "failure of Wachovia would have posed a systemic risk" to the financial system.
Where does Paulsen get off putting us on the tab for $270 billion? Will somebody get rid of this guy?

Hmmm, Maybe my point wasn't succinct.

You were and are still traitors.

You liberal democrats had servicemen and women on the battlefield and sold em down the river. Just like you sold the ecomony down the river to give cheap loans to people who didn't qualify for them and lined Barney Franks, Dodds, Obamas et al pockets with cash.

LOL at the emasculated GOP whining about their hurt feelings. Odd coming from a party that called anyone who correctly opposed the war a traitor.

That was true. What's your point?
