Must-listen: Karl Rove on how Obama and Pelosi blew the bailout

Apparently neither one of them lifted a finger to pressure their toadiest toadies, which means either they’re not taking this seriously or they’re too stupid and/or gutless to lean on their colleagues effectively. You’d think The One at least could flip 12 Democrats by promising to swing by their districts while he’s on the road and turn some water into wine or whatever to help get them reelected. After all, if the polls hold, this is going to be his mess to clean up come January. Waiting only makes it worse. Grab a mop, Messiah. Click the image to listen.
Update: Most members of the Congressional Black Caucus, many of whom come from safe districts and aren’t at risk politically, voted no. Good work, Barry.

I watched O’Reilly tonight and couldn’t believe the way he pandered to that lying, cheating piece of crap Kerry. Frankly, I neither need or want the likes of O’Reilly “watching out” for me. He’s a loud mouth blustering fool.

I didn’t watch the whole thing because I just got home, but I did hear oreilly say, “you are a leader”, and of course lurch said, “yes”.
Leader of what I’d like to ask oreilly?
O’reilly talked about pelosi and how it would’ve been better if politics were not involved and of course lurch said (I forget exactly), but then lurch went on to say the same thing as pelosi. (lack of caps, means lack of respect)
Did I make sense? Not sure!

Dude, you are obviously confused. You sound dumb.
Its simple. Who are you going to blame for the bill going down in defeat? The party that voted FOR it or the party that voted AGAINST it?
Its that simple.
And all the repub leaders pushed them to vote for it: Bush, McCain, Boener, et all. Plus all the republican business leaders, plus the republican appointed Fed leaders. And these dumbasses STILL voted no.
I heard some real stupid stuff on the floor today. Some southern redneck Repub was saying the bill was a piece of crap with a marshmallow on it. I think it is mostly southern Repubs that are constantly embarrassing the party…you know, Huckabee people (stupid people).

Blaming Democrats for the failure of the rescue bill is absurd and many voters know enough math to figure that out looking at the vote. Delude yourselves all you like. For awhile there it looked like a good idea to have John “The Compromiser” McCain as our guy. But in the interest of bipartisanship he’s completely refused to defend himself or his party.
At this moment we are losing the perception war. Things need to turn around, quickly.
Dorvillian on September 29, 2008 at 9:04 PM
How many foolish things can you pack into four sentences.
1) 94 Dems voted Nay. It was a bi-partisan rejection.
2) You are not a Republican in any way, shape, or form.
3) “For hell’s sake”??? Is that some sort of Satanistic exclamation?
4) Most of the posters here are not stupid. This is a blog of opinions. Grow up.
5) Most people here are not blaming any particular person. This is a tough issue with folks from both parties on both sides of the issue.
6) Given the other five errors, I am compelled to deduct that you are, indeed, stupid. Really, embarrassingly stupid.
I don’t like to insult people, but you earned that last one by calling others stupid. It is not appreciated.

The repubs voted nay on a 2 to 1 basis. The MAJORITY of the dems voted Yay. So, if the Repubs had voted like the Dems had voted, the bill would have passed. Why is that so difficult for you to understand???

Not to mention unemployment, more bank failures, small businesses going under.
Someone needs to find a way to settle this down.
Terrye on September 29, 2008 at 9:27 PM
Just like the amnesty mess, fix the root problem FIRST. Craft a simple bill to repeal the changes made to the CRA in 1995 that allowed this fiscal situation to arise. THEN, and only then, work to pass a bill to get us out of the mess that Barney, Chris, Chuckie, Lugosi et al and the all too silent Republicans foisted upon the citizens of America. Without fixing the root problem this will soon occur again because, as we’ve seen, there is no personal responsibility in D.C.
Gohawgs on September 29, 2008 at 9:28 PM
I wander if this wasn’t some type of tactical move by Pelosi. The MSM is going to assign blame to the house republicans, and if the market gets bad enough than Pelosi will have carte de blanche to do whatever she wants and shove a bunch of democratic goodies down the republicans throat. And then accuse republicans for putting idealogy over people’s financial well being. She will also have the added benefit of making them look petty for not voting for the bill because she hurt their feelings. McCain needs to get control of his party, because it seems to me that their not listing to Bush or John Boehner. Public opinion can be fickle, people may be against the bill now, but if the economy implodes and republicans get the blame their’s going to be a reckoning at the polls.

he appeals directly to the people to help him get it passed – under the idea that if his bill passes; this will never ever happen again. (Stand up and fight with me! – remember from the convention)
He does this with republicans and some blue dog democrats behind him as well.
The phone lines will flood in support of the bill. People don’t want a bailout. But they’ll eat it, if they know this won’t ever happen again.

lorien1973 on September 29, 2008 at 9:33 PM
He had time only to sketch it out. But it included insurance for which financial institutions would pay premiums. I think it also includes elimination of mark to market accounting, reduction (maybe even short-term elimination) of the capital gain tax, and a moratorium on a tax that applies when corporations repatriate earnings. The theory is that these moves will prompt liquidity to flood back into the country.
Spence sounds like a straight-shooter and he’s not Barney Frank. It’s a plan that seems to put most of the onus on Wall Street, and it’s something McCain might be able to get on and, once passed, help him point at Obama, the CRA of 1977, Fannie, Freddie, Barney Frank, et al.

LOL! As long as you know what you’re doing…

FIFY
Been thinking about this. Here’s some food for thought- Obambi and McCain have BOTH been notoriously careful to not take a firm position on this bill. Now, we’ve come to expect this from The One, since he has not position on anything except Change and Hope. He’s never met a position that he’s willing to even date for more than a month and those are subject to poll #s. Barring a series of consistent, definitive polls, Obama would not have a position on whether or not he should tie his shoes.
McCain is a different story. He historically takes a firm position on most things, damn the torpedoes. If McCain is hedging… there is usually a good reason.
Put simply, neither firmly opposed or supported the bail out. Bambi has worked hard to assess blame, rabble rouse and generally be a worthless nuisance without actually saying anything. McCain has not said anything while remaining conspicuously central.

And the Fed just pumped $730 billion into the market today. You just don’t get it. This is about keeping the credit default swaps from coming due. You familiar with those?

Roger,
Forget McCain, most of us still don’t like his Maverick ways, he is not a real Republican, he’s a politicain. If the majority of Americans are so enamored with the Messiah and the need to heal the manufactured myth of generational racial guilt….so be it! This dose not mean we should compromise our principles to gain disingenuous political favor. Principle is all that really matters, we all look favorably upon histories selfless champions of freedom whom share but only one trait, that being uncompromised principles. Damn the torpedoes, Obama is a shameless whore!

“by the way, with all the bile that you have been spewing in this thread, did I miss the one where you called for criminal prosecution of those responsible and/or blocked legislation to keep it from happening in the first place?”
Well, I dont know about criminal prosecution but, yeah, I would love to see the republicans make the case that these people should be blamed…and these are democrats like Barney Frank and Chris Todd.
But, that doesnt mean you dont do what is right when you find yourself in a crisis regardless of who caused the crisis….LEADERS dont do that.
Also, how are the repubs going to make that case when:
1) they will continue to get their ass kicked in the next election
2) GW Bush cant seem to communicate jack crap to the american people. Reagan he is not. He already has failed us that way….he should have explained the issue better to the american people….this has always been his biggest fault…his inability to communicate and persuade.

This could have been passed with the majority in the house – by the defecrats.
I’m beginning to believe they wanted this in order to destroy our economy.
They and their willing surrogates in the MSM are going to point this directly at “Bush and his cronies”.
Guess what? Obama will keep repeating that McCain voted for / with Bush 90% for his policies.
And he’ll peg McCain as a Bush crony.
They want the stock market to tank so they can sweep in in November and usher in the USSA.
I believe there’s some hard core s going on and we may be living through a coup of some sorts.
Tin foil hat firmly adjusted.
