[...] Lifeline Posted on September 29, 2008 by Denton Romans Here’s Tina Fey as Palin again, this time in her interview with Katie Couric (Amy Poehler). I’m not sure what’s going on with Fey’s strange Minnesota/Irish combo accent, but I did laugh out loud at her line that she’d like to use her lifeline. Unfortunately, it’s not that far off from the real thing.
Is this an actual quote? Not a parody? The heck?!
<blockquote>" . . . where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh -- it's got to be all about job creation too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that."</blockquote>

Clip #1: McCain's camp is over-coaching Palin I think. She is coming off less genuine and its going to make her look bad if she looks like she is fishing around in her memory for the billions of answers she's been fed. Experience in the federal political matters makes a difference in this arena, but that is why you have expert advisors. The main point is, our Executive should govern by a set of ethics and principles, and have a clear understanding of the free market and conservative ideals. I think Gov. Palin would fail in understanding all of the intricacies of this financial crisis, but the truth is, there are few in DC that understood (understand?) it in the first place. She gets a pass from me on that. SNL is playing on the popularity of Palin and Fey's previous characterization being popular. They probably did no more damage than Palin did to herself with the Couric interview. Little harm, little foul.

Clip #2: I think this was fair, to a degree. Although several of the Obama points were made legitimately (Iraq war) and none of McCain's stances were accurately portrayed, SNL still gave two significant dings to Obama on playing the race card and his connections to Chicago corruption. I imagine that the SNL staff were probably Hillary supporters and this was bleed-over from their primary battles.

Clip #3: It could have been funnier, but it was still pretty spot-on about Bill Clinton's apparent support of McCain and lack of support for Obama.

All in all, it was much better than the bias you get from the MSM on a daily basis. I don't think there was anything that conservatives should really be upset about, it was pretty fair treatment.

Just once I'd like to see a news bunny ask Yobama to get more specific and then follow it up 2 or 3 times after he gives them the political spin answer. That would be racist I guess,... or at least against their agenda.

I get it. SNL hates McCain and Palin and Obama is their boy. I really don't need to watch it to understand their brand of ideology. They shoot BB's at Obama and 88mm shells at McCain and Palin. Fair treatment...from their perspective.

I know nobody will read this given the late hour, but once again, this stupid f'ing moronic double standard makes me sick.

Obama f'ing gets away with having no new f'ing ideas what so freaking ever, and saying "uhh" every two seconds. And Biden thinks that FDR was in the White House in 1929 and went on television. And thinks he has the ability to make handicapped people walk.

And THESE are the guys who are beating us?

No question, Palin needs to do better, but I really, really, REALLY hate this double standard.

<blockquote>Experience doesn’t equal stupid and a fresh view from an outside source wouldn’t hurt that hell hole either. And I don’t know about you but character, integrity, hard work and a love of country trump experience every time.

Maybe they will, though with a military leader, lawyer, doctor or CEO experience and knowledge are helpful before assuming a top job. Being from outside the beltway can be a plus but she needs to communicate better how her experience translates into effective decision making as Commander in Chief.

One other thing I noticed,, wondering if anyone else has,, When Jim L. asked the candidates how they are going to "rule" over everyone,, or something like that.
McCain should have corrected him and said, in free societies, we don't have dictators. Presidenst serve. Dictators rule.

<blockquote>because they were so obviously fabrications.</blockquote>

Well, I've read plenty of comments RE: McCain that were in line with the 'fabrications' during my time here, 'party traitor', 'self-centered' and 'RINO' being obvious examples

All that being said I actually thought they did a good job in all 3 videos; perhaps I didn't mind the Palin one so much since there are so many acting so damn precious about her. It's kinda sad; but here's hoping she does well in the debate. I think most of us knew she was a gamble, and we should know very soon whether that gamble really did pay off... or not.

And Biden is a gaffe or two a day! Sarah Palin hasn't f'd up to any degree close to what he has...she hasn't plagarized anything, doesn't charge the tapayer $300 a day to commute to and from work...isn't arrogant or so insecure she has ever told someone she has a higher IQ...an on and on and on...

So the MSM knowing who and what she is starts it meme that she was a mistake ...the MSM who is us conservative's enemy..and some of you make it easy for them to manipullate you bu having doubts about her? C'mon grow a pair already!

For 8 years the MSM and Liberal Hollywood have told us Bush is an idiot...God help them if for the next 16 years they start with the Palin is an idiot... air head... whatever else that Fey and her leftist ilk are starting up with!

Like McCain said stand up and fight...fight for what is good and right for this country....fight!

The disparity in the standards for the two parties is maddening. I will keep my argument equal that experience is not the be all to end all but Gov. Palin surely has more. And he has none of the other traits that I require in a candidate. NONE!

You know what always surprises me? If Obama was judged to any degree the way Palin is being judged and she's our number two...he would be toast! Have none of the naysayers and hysterical people on this site seen his videos???...he can't speak...have you not read how he got to be president of the Harvard Law Review? Who he lived with at Columbia? Who he defended for the hot minute he was practicing law? Instead of producing his birth certificate and ending the debate of whether he was or wasn't born here in the USA... he tried to get it dismissed yet again with a technicality...even if he was born here this tactic make him look suspect so it's dumb...

How do you think he would have done with Gibson or Couric had they done real interviews pushing him on his assocaitions with Rezko, Ayers, Wright, the Saudi guys who paid his tuition at Harvard and the Syrian guy who facilitated that for him? ACORN is smack in the middle of this bailout and he's their guy! Have any MSM interviewers asked him why he travelled to Pakistan and with an Indonesian passport? And there is so much more!

I bet you anything his people wish that all they had to keep hiding from the voters was an exhausted candidate who has been treated like crap since the day she was announced. One who is probably worried about what she has wrought on her family...one who probably wishes she had said "no thanks" but has too much decency and strenght of character to back out and hurt McCain... I will absolutely stay strong in my defence and support of her because I want to have that same decency and strenght of character! Do you see it in many other politicians?

Don't forget she has actually accomplished some things unlike Obambi...People know! I predict that Obama loses...Americans for the most part are not idiots!

No, it means that very few go to Washington with experience in those things but they learn. Just like she learned to be a mayor and she learned to be a governor. Experience doesn't equal stupid and a fresh view from an outside source wouldn't hurt that hell hole either. And I don't know about you but character, integrity, hard work and a love of country trump experience every time.

<blockquote>All of these so called elitists that Ms. Parker is so enamored with are the ones that got is to this fine financial mess. So what have their Ivy League colleges and years of “experience” done for us lately. ZERO!

Is the idea that someone without experience would be better able to communicate a strategy for regulating financial markets or for setting priorities when the Pentagon and military leaders aren't on the same page?

Although hardly even handed, the way I see the skits is that they were Hillary Clinton supports. Not quite mad enough to vote for John McCain but still a little miffed at the treatment of their candidate. I thought the Clinton skit was spot on. He has been practicing more diplomacy "supporting" Sen. Obama then he did the entire 8 years of his presidency.

I agree, she is the kind of smart that everyone can relate to. Well unless you're a N.Y. RINO. They are too dumb to realize that the fact that she isn't them is her appeal.

Here, here. I did not even read all of Parker's article, skimmed the first paragraph and quit, it was not worth my time. Palin has seemed weak because they are not letting her be herself. If I were Palin I would go in to the debate on Thursday and say handlers be hanged, I am doing this MY WAY! And see what happens. I am betting on a grand slam!
