Video: Pelosi calls House GOP “unpatriotic”

posted at 9:21 pm on September 27, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

Just the sort of rhetoric America needs to help these very delicate negotiations along. Compounding the nuance here is her reason for calling them unpatriotic: It’s not the fact that they’re holding out in the middle of a national emergency, it’s the fact that they neglected to show up for negotiations earlier in the week. Go ask Paul Kanjorski — Democrat Paul Kanjorski, who chairs the House Financial Services subcommittee on capital markets — whose fault that is. Then read Roll Call’s report about the Democrats sending eight negotiators to the table tonight when Paulson explicitly asked for two. We’re staring down the barrel of the worst disaster since Katrina or maybe even 9/11 and these people are playing douchebag psych-out games with each other. I can’t wait to see what this poll looks like next week.

The more I think about it, the more I have to believe Kristol’s wrong and things are (relatively) fine. They simply wouldn’t be jerking around this way if there really was an economic nuclear missile inbound. Click your ruby slippers together three times and repeat: They can’t be that stupid, they can’t be that stupid, they can’t be that stupid…

sven10077 on September 27, 2008 at 9:25 PM

Old San Fran Nan is the epitome of “unpatriotic”. Screw her and the rest of her left wing cohorts. The Republican house members should not give an inch. If she doesn’t like it then let her take a vote and take full responsibility for the outcome of that vote.

A member of a hostile alien race, sent to planet earth to “soften-them-up” before a planned invasion would not act discernibly different from Nancy Pelosi. Not to say that Pelosi is a alien saboteur or anything…

The Truth is out there.

Speedwagon82 on September 27, 2008 at 9:31 PM

She’s not losing the argument, she just want a lot more captains to go down with this sinking ship. I am starting to smell a rat. If you listen to the talk (and you probably shouldn’t) supposedly there is only 5% of mortgage loans in default. And the U.S. bad loans are suppose to be the blame for world wide economic panic? This just doesn’t make sense anymore, regardless of how much bad paper is out there around the world it can’t logically cause all of this havoc. We are not being give the straight skinny here but we are being asked to pay for it.

Cindy Munford on September 27, 2008 at 9:31 PM

Nice to see you come around AP.

And if they are staring down the barrel of a shotgun and still pulling this, this country is in the worst shape it’s ever been as the leadership of the majority party in the House and Senate do want to see us fall.

Let’s see who they ultimately call “unpatriotic” in the end shall we.

CTDeLude on September 27, 2008 at 9:31 PM

McCain needs to go on TV right now and call her out on this.

Mark1971 on September 27, 2008 at 9:32 PM

They are DEFINITELY that stupid, but why the hell should the House GOP just go along with legislation like this? Everybody is just supposed to jump on board because Paulson and Barney Frank say so? Sorry, no thanks.

I know that doing something is probably necessary, but why not try to get it right?

BallisticBob on September 27, 2008 at 9:32 PM

The latest I’ve heard is that the Democratics want to divert 20% of the profits of the initial sales (not the net profit, if any) of the mortgages into two housing programs already in existence (Housing Trust Fund and Capital Magnet Fund).

In addition, at the end of the day when all sales are complete, if there is any deficit between the money allocated and the sales of the newly-acquired troubled assets, a tax will be levied on Wall Street to cover the shortage.

In effect, the Democrats are proposing a tax on Wall Street to pay for additional spending on low income housing programs.

Worst form of government except for every other one? You sure about that Sir Winston?

They can’t be that stupid, they can’t be that stupid, they can’t be that stupid…

Well, my take is they *are* that stupid and they are *not* that stupid at the same time. They are that stupid to play politics with this looming crisis, however, they are NOT that stupid, because they know they – with the help of the mass media – can successfully pin all the blame on President Bush and the GOP. And, after that, the gullible American public will turn to the DNC to save them from the mess made by President Bush and the GOP.

At least, that is what I believe their plan to be. And why not. They have been getting away with this nonsense for years now. There’s no reason for them to change their shady ways.

And yes, I do believe they are quite fine with watching the country go down the tubes and millions upon millions of Americans suffer. Afterall, suffering Americans are Democrat constituents, right? As Rush always says, ‘what’s good for America is bad for the Democrat Party’. The Democrats enjoy when things are bad in America, because the more America suffers, the more they feel they will be needed to fix it.

We’ll see if their plan works soon enough.

Of course Republicans are unpatriotic we don’t want higher taxes and organizations that should be prosecuted under the RICO Act and not made wealthy under this bailout plan.

You will see every Democrat that has been elected since 2005 will vote no on this piece of crap legislation and the GOP will be the ones that pass it on the American people to guarantee we stay a minority party.

The guy from MS already is telling his voters he will vote no that this is all the GOP’s fault. The same as the guy from Illinois who took Hasert’s seat.

Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo
Judd Gregg, R-N.H.

Chris Dodd, D-Conn
Barney Frank, D-Mass.

Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y
Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.,
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.,
Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D.,
Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont.,
Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I.

Jake Tapper reported this too and has a list of the members who crashed the party (not very comforting), they also confiscated blackberries from staffers:

House Republicans, who had not been meaningfully involved in the process until Thursday, when they announced they would not vote for the compromise bill first proposed by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, sent a high-ranking member of their leadership, Minority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., who arrived to the negotiations carrying a tall cup of coffee.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., projected confidence before the meeting, saying, “It would be my hope that this could be resolved today, that we had a day for the American people and members of Congress to review the legislation on the Internet, that we could bring something to the floor possibly Sunday night or Monday morning.”

House Ways and Means chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., currently the subject of an Ethics Committee investigation into whether he skirted taxes, made a surprise showing, joining Blunt, House Financial Services Committee chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., Senate Banking Committee chairman Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, Judd Gregg, R-N.H.

Republicans, who had wanted a five-person meeting with Blunt, Frank, Gregg, Dodd and Paulson, also saw the table fill with other Democrats inserting themselves into the process, including House Caucus chair Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I.

As much contempt as I have for the media, I don’t think they will be as blatantly stupid as Pelosi: They won’t repeat this accusation with a straight face

The media need to keep up at least a tissue-thin veneer of ‘objectivity’ ( which hardly anyone believes, but it’s like the Japanese version of ‘face’ or outward appearance )

In Japanese culture, there are times when you MUST avoid the truth–even tell a ‘white lie’–even though everyone knows what you really mean. In the media, they MUST pretend to be something other than whores & pimps for Obama, the Dems, and libtard interest groups

I could be wrong, though: the veneer is so thin by now you could _____ through it……..

Janos Hunyadi on September 27, 2008 at 9:53 PM

I hope at least one congressional Republican is on one of the talking head shows tomorrow. He or she should throw a hissy fit about this, making sure to expose the lies and name Pelosi 30 or 40 times. It would help if he/she could burst into tears like a lib, and wail about how hard they’ve been working to keep the taxpayers from having to foot the bailout bill that’s so critical to saving the whole world by Monday.
