McCain on Obama’s Spain smear: “Horsesh*t”? Update: “Of course not”?

Via Taegan Goddard, it comes — twice — right after The One makes the horsesh*t allegation that McCain “wasn’t sure” if Spain is aligned with the U.S. I’m giving you two versions: One that I cut from the Fox News broadcast plus the official MSNBC clip, where the audio is slightly better. Skip ahead to 4:30 of the latter for the exchange. Exit question: A Mavericky moment, or are we mishearing?
Update: Dan Riehl says it’s “of course not,” and now even Sullivan (no link) has backed off. Damn. I want to believe.

of course not

LOL. Awesome. I winced when he stumbled over Ahmedinejad though. Gotta practice that one Mav.

He says: of course not.
lorien1973 on September 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM
I thought he said “Of course not” but now that I hear it again, it does kinda sound like horsesh!t.
That was a pretty lame attack by The 0. Our intel guys are still workin’ with intel guys in Spain, hence the terror plots broken up by them both.
Tony737 on September 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM
He said of course not. I wish he said horseshit.
I do like the comment about not having a seal yet! LOL!
ctmom on September 27, 2008 at 12:00 PM
No, he says “of course not” and then proceeds to say “horsesh*t”. There’s no hard ‘c’ there folks :-)
rightallthetime on September 27, 2008 at 12:01 PM
I agree
“of course he did not”
d1carter on September 27, 2008 at 12:01 PM
I heard it as “of course” but I like this version better.
Terrie on September 27, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Looks like several other HotHeads agree, it was “Of course not” and Mac does add an H to his S’s. ‘Of courshe not.’ However, the ‘not’ somehow sounds a little bit like ’sh!t’.
Tony737 on September 27, 2008 at 12:02 PM
With any luck, President McCain will only have to pronounce it one time when he declines to attend the state funeral of the terrorist, Ahmadinejad.

Obama was spewing horsehockey, but McCain didn’t describe it as such.

Yeah, that was awesome. I expected a lot more of those but didn’t get ‘em. Saracuda would’ve though!
Tony737 on September 27, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Exactly.
Has Axelrod called Kos about trying to make this go viral yet?
Of course I would have preferred McCain to drop a whole row of profanities on him, but I guess the focus groups wouldn’t like that too much, would they?
fiatboomer on September 27, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Me too. McCain should say horsesh*t more often. It’s a good descriptor :P
lorien1973 on September 27, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Good point. Well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on the horsesh*t point. I just HAVE to believe he said it.
rightallthetime on September 27, 2008 at 12:05 PM
I know horseshi*t when I hear it. I didn’t hear it.
I want to know what Obama said whil McCain was trying to say the short dude from Iran’s name.
SouthernGent on September 27, 2008 at 12:07 PM
I’m not hearing the Horsesh*t comment from McCain, but I do agree that it’s Horsesh*t.
More important than that is how disingenuous Obama’s statement was concerning Kissinger, Obama knew full well Kissinger never said any such thing.
Maxx on September 27, 2008 at 12:09 PM
I kind of think McCain is more of a bull, rather than horse. I could see Bush saying it though.
ThePrez on September 27, 2008 at 12:09 PM
Sounds like “of course not” to me. Is Team O worried about their guys performance last night? It seems they are. They are trying to push stories about McCain’s demeanor and now this horsesh*t stuff. Let’s hope the poll numbers start to come back McCain’s way after last night’s win.
BrianBoru on September 27, 2008 at 12:10 PM
Calling HORSESH*T when you hear it is: PRESIDENTIAL
originalpechanga on September 27, 2008 at 12:11 PM
My favorite pretzel moment:
Obama’s twisted responses here regarding the “preconditions” charge.
Obama’s fake presidential seal: $1.00
Obama’s “preconditions” pretzel?: priceless

CHARACTERISTICS of the NARCISSIST
1. Self-centered. His needs are paramount.
2. No remorse for mistakes or misdeeds.
3. Unreliable, undependable.
4. Does not care about the consequences of his actions.
5. Projects his faults on to others. High
blaming behavior; never his fault.
6. Little if any conscience.
7. Insensitive to needs and feelings of others.
8. Has a good front (persona) to impress and exploit others.
9. Low stress tolerance. Easy to anger and rage.
10. People are to be manipulated for his needs.
11. Rationalizes easily. Twists conversation to his gain at other’s expense. If trapped, keeps talking, changes the subject or gets angry.
12. Pathological lying.
13. Tremendous need to control situations, conversations, others.
14. No real values. Mostly situational.
15. Often perceived as caring and understanding and uses this to manipulate.
16. Conversation controller. Must have the first and last word.
17. Secret life. Hides money, friends, activities.
18. Seldom expresses appreciation.
19. Grandiose. Convinced he knows more than others and is correct in all he does.
20. Convincing. Must convince people to side with him.
21. Very good at reading people, so he can manipulate them. Sometimes called gaslighting.
Sounds like Bambi, yes, no?
And this is just the short list.
Over.

Yeah, really: the great part of that exchange - as all HotAir readers know - was the rip on Obama’s phony presidential seal.
New dictionaries ought to replace the word “chutzpah” with an Obama seal…

Also - does anyone else get irritated by BHO constantly overstressing the 1st syllable or 1st letter of certain words like Spain or troops…sounds like he is forcing the words out.
HawaiiLwyr on September 27, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Senator John McCain should have said HORSESH*T VERY LOUDLY TO THIS:
He talked about his father from Kenya “writing letter after letter” trying to come to college in the U.S., because in no other country on Earth could one make it like here—”our ideals and values inspired the world.” Powerful stuff.
But then Obama concludes by saying “ I don’t think any of us can say that our standing in the world now, the way children around the world look at the United States, is the same.
HOW MANY people are clamoring to get into, say KENYA? Or CUBA? OR RUSSIA? or IRAN because they are such great places to live?
originalpechanga on September 27, 2008 at 12:20 PM
I wish McCain would have just said… “Amadadadingdongjob”.

Regarding the sound bite in question…. press your dominate ear very close to the speaker and then tell me what you hear.
The point being, who cares, when nobody could hear it clearly?!!
This is a none issue.
Yeah I know what I heard (I have extremely good hearing) and you cannot tell me otherwise, but who cares?
Most people cannot hear the detailed sound that I can hear. I’m not bragging, I’m simply talking from experience.
Off topic, but did anybody hear Sarah Palin’s low chuckles each time, just before she pulled her best zingers at her convention speech?
Didn’t think so.
I rest my case.
Mcguyver on September 27, 2008 at 12:20 PM
I am just reading all the press pundits about the debate. Can someone help me out. Did I see the same debate as everyone else? Was there a separate debate between the two that went on at the same time?

Another characteristic of a narcissist is they don’t stand behind what they’ve said in the past. Obama said he would meet with these rogue leaders one on one without preconditions. He said that. He can either stand behind it, or repudiate it. But to ignore it is not responsible. It’s narcissistic. We’ve all known people like this. “But, you just said such and such!”. And it means nothing to them. Only the moment, only the present has meaning to them. If they can lie and get away with something, that’s good enough for them. Where are their values? Where is their character? I don’t know. Obama is dangerous.

1. Walk over to TV.
2. Turn off TV.

5. Read an Alfred Hitchcock mystery series book.

The spurious allegation from Barry Bambi Obama (a jackass who doesn’t know jack about foreign policy) that McCain doesn’t know that Spain is an ally is frankly beneath contempt.

“A whore’s shirt.” I’m not sure whether evil John McCain was characterizing Senator Obama as a prostitute or flashing back to shore leave in the Phillipines.
CK MacLeod on September 27, 2008 at 12:44 PM
But then again we cannot believe anything Olbermann says.
But why would he dismiss this?
Answer: because Obama has done worse.. remember the middle finger pointing at Hillary?
This is picture proof that anybody can see, vs. an audio sound bite that nobody can confirm…
The in-the-tank Obama media is finally backing off from these non-starter issues….

As a reminder, this is the same little squirt, er, Jr. Senator from Illinois who once said, “Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us,” and who has repeatedly confused Auschwitz with Buchenwald.

Another thought on Obama saying he’ll meet with any leader without preconditions. He explained he reserves the right to do that, at a time and place of his choosing, if it helps the US. But it’s not about the US. It’s about him, to do as he pleases. If he’s moved to do something, he wants to do it. He wants what he wants. He’s omitting whether it’s objectively a good idea. It’s all about him.
Paul-Cincy on September 27, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Exactly what I heard!
I guess McCain needs to go to “Massatoosetts” to learn to pronounce Mad Mahmoud’s name. But then I wish he didn’t have to mention the little twerp at all.
Both little twerps, Mad Mahmoud and Osama Obama, for that matter.
MrScribbler on September 27, 2008 at 12:52 PM
But after McCain flubbed Imajerk’s name and went to restate it, Obama says, or I thought he said, “That’s okay.” As if Mac was a kid. Did anyone else pick up on this?

freeus on September 27, 2008 at 1:13 PM
How do these people come up with stuff like this? The “of course not” is very clear.
The biggest thing to take away from the above clips is that Obama continues to lie about his original “no preconditions” statements, and that he lied, as attested to later by Kissinger himself, about what Kissinger has said.
Connie on September 27, 2008 at 1:14 PM
Hey, Barry, Bush isn’t running. Bush can’t run. Ever. Again.
Between saying McCain’s right 9 times, he referenced the Bush administration at least that many times. Does anyone at Team Obama know how to run a campaign?
I’m no expert, but I’d have to say that McCain cleaned Barry’s clock. Bush was accused of being a “frat boy” in 200 & 2004. This guy makes “frat boys” look like boy scouts.

The first one is “of course” not ‘of course not’ there is no expression of a “tuh” sound for there to be a not.
The second time Obama says quickly and under his breath “That’s his name.” McCain looks over annoingly and repeats the name correctly without frustration, to show who is the man.

Harry Truman would have said “horsesh*t.” Some women tourists asked President Truman how they kept the White House lawn so green. Truman alledgedly said, “They just spread manure on it now and then.” The ladies complained that the President shouldn’t say “manure.” An aide replied that it took them a whole year just to get him to say “manure.”
McCain is an ex-sailor. He could make the air turn blue if he wanted.

The rating from last night show that about 30 million people watched the debate. I compaired it with the numbers for Bush/Kerry’s second debate which was on a Friday; Bush/Kerry drew about 35 million. As I suspected, Obama wanted foreign policy first and on a Friday for less tune-in. I think it would have been worse, we’ll never know though, with out the McCain gambit about not showing up.
Let’s hope Palin’s debate draws more and she does well. That will bring more viewers to the second debate.
