I’m still fapping to the swimsuit video.

I’ll read this later.

KJL…amazing as usual.

SouthernGent on September 26, 2008 at 10:22 PM

K-Lo doesn’t just have smarts. She has WISDOM.

D0WNT0WN on September 26, 2008 at 10:24 PM

I wholeheartedly agree. UNLEASH THE CUDA!!!!!!!

Metro on September 26, 2008 at 10:25 PM

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaamen…

Drunk Report on September 26, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Huh. I kinda hate K-Lo usually, but she’s spot-on here.

Purple Fury on September 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM

I can’t wait till she debates Biden

Hmmmm, traffic overload?

“Be yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

You need an Ivy League education to come up with that? Bwahhhhhhh!

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 10:43 PM

“Be yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

LOL because this is the first time in my memory where the positions of the VP nominee seem to matter. Challenge to the HA crowd- point out other situations where the VP nominee’s positions matter.

highhopes on September 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM

Really, how do us plebes live our lives without such wise advice. Jeesh. Then again, it’s what he NRO crowd has been practicing, i.e, being themselves: We are east coast elite snobs and you are not worthy.

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM

Exactly. You picked a maverick, now let her be a maverick!!!

PattyJ on September 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM

OT: If you haven’t buzzed the open thread for the debate, please take a minute to do so.

Connie on September 26, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Good article. I read this earlier. They need to turn Palin loose. I have a feeling that the longer they wait the less influence she’s going to have and it’ll all be for naught. Let’s hope the McCain camp is listening (or reading). Please don’t wait!! Let Sarah be Sarah!

VinnyL on September 26, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Get her fired up and let her go next Thursday night. Let smug Plugs have both barrels.

Mallard T. Drake on September 26, 2008 at 10:49 PM

I agree. She needs to be herself and I don’t think anyone except for Leftards and Mediatards expect her to know the answer to every freaking question. I’m more concerned with character and judgement. She’ll have advisors and she will pick up on all the foreign policy stuff.

mrsmwp on September 26, 2008 at 10:50 PM

Let Palin be Palin!

HawaiiLwyr on September 26, 2008 at 10:50 PM

I agree. She hasn’t seemed “authentic” lately. If she is just “herself,” everybody will love her. I do.

Star20 on September 26, 2008 at 10:51 PM

“Will the Real Sarah Palin please stand up!” If her last three interviews are any indication, I’m afraid Biden will send her home in a basket, gift wrapped. Something has changed since the acceptance speech and now. Something is up, just wish I had a handle on it.

N4646W on September 26, 2008 at 10:52 PM

They need to turn Palin loose. I have a feeling that the longer they wait the less influence she’s going to have and it’ll all be for naught.

The economy got in the way. Palin’s strength on the ticket is yet to come but not when the focus is on economic policy. John McCain killed Obama in tonight’s debate. Palin as part of the ticket will be back this week.

Quotes of the Day should be:

Mac: “What you don’t seem to understand is …”

0bama: “John is right …”

Tony737 on September 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

I think she’s reigned in until the debate. Joe Gasbag waltzes in, thinking he’s got it in the bag and….BOOOOOM!!
Double barrel of moose-shot right between the eyes.

Then they’ll let her be Sara-Cuda.

AubieJon on September 26, 2008 at 10:58 PM

Tony737 on September 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

A lot of people sitting in terminals waiting for their flight with CNN broadcasting the debate are thinking the same thing.

Kini on September 26, 2008 at 11:00 PM

To some she’s still the real star of the ticket ;)

So much better then KParker.

This is true: I was so disgusted by my paper’s choice of KP as the editorial columnist years ago that I canceled my subscription. Years later, my opinion is unchanged.

Spirit of 1776 on September 26, 2008 at 11:06 PM

“Be yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Well…DUH, Allah. That was my point yesterday in another thread. She is neither stumbling nor inarticulate: she’s gagging on the ipecac of Maverick’s idiotic bipartisan narrative.

Let Sarah be Sarah – even if it means Mav has to go down. Besides, it’s time for new blood.

ManlyRash on September 26, 2008 at 11:07 PM

Oh, bull! This is another patronizing, belittling article by an east coast elitist slob.

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 11:13 PM

Yeah, please stop encumbering her with McVain talking points. Let her beat Biden’s hair plugs in so bad that he sues Bosley.

fiatboomer on September 26, 2008 at 11:17 PM

My hope is that it’s just build-up for her one shining moment vs. Biden. Tight lease, no gaffes for Biden to play to, and then Boom, totally free.

Spirit of 1776 on September 26, 2008 at 11:24 PM

These things go in cycles. Sarah! may be the difference if the race is close.

I expect that she will overperform her (significantly lowered) expectations substantially in the VP debate, but her significance will be lost for a while and she’ll be subjected to renewed assaults. The final difference she can make electorally should be at the very end.

CK MacLeod on September 26, 2008 at 11:36 PM

I absolutely refuse to watch another Sarah Palin interview.

It’s not because I don’t like the lady and don’t want to hear what she has to say. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite. It’s because I want to hear what she’s about and what she believes in and that’s why I won’t listen anymore.

Same here. I’m bored to death with listening to Governor Palin acting like she’s scared to death of saying the wrong thing. NOBODY wants that in a leader.

Biden has shown that he’s pathologically willing to say things that contradict Obama – or even Biden himself – on a fairly regular basis. During the debate, Biden can (and, let’s face it, will) spout a constant stream of the most asinine comments imaginable. But he’ll look CONFIDENT – even arrogant – while he does it. If Sarah Palin keeps up her nervous schoolgirl persona next to Biden’s ‘everybody’s favorite crazy uncle’ routine, she’ll get slaughtered. And nobody is going to care whether she dotted all her ‘i’s and crossed her ‘t’s.

If somebody’s putting a muzzle on Sara Palin, that’s a really dumb way to run a campaign. If this is all a ruse, designed to put Biden in a completely wrong state of mind, so he’ll try to tease the shivering Chihuahua but get a facefull of pit bull instead, then hey brilliant move. But I think that’s a lot to hope for.

logis on September 27, 2008 at 12:01 AM

Be careful of what you ask for. You might get it. Can you imagine how many people will be on suicide watch? People suffering from PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) are already cowering, whimpering, and having nightmares. If they turn her loose, it could really push ‘em over the edge.

cjs1943 on September 27, 2008 at 12:04 AM

All I want to hear is “‘Cuda cleared inbound, hot.”

After that: “Cleanup, cleanup required on aisle Biden”

drunyan8315 on September 27, 2008 at 12:11 AM

And exactly how many votes has that gotten him in his presidential runs?

Spirit of 1776 on September 27, 2008 at 12:14 AM

I sent the McCain campaign an email asking where she and her authenticity are???

CCRWM on September 27, 2008 at 12:17 AM

It isn’t in the McCain Campaign’s interest to turn her loose. Her purpose is to be seen, and to be heard saying what John McCain wants her to say. She thinks like a conservative, and a Republican. John McCain for the most part doesn’t. They are not going to let Palin put her foot in McCain’s mouth. She’ll be kept on a tight script until the election; if they manage to win, look for her to be harder to find than Waldo at a rock concert. Don’t think it doesn’t piss McCain off that she is more popular than he is; if she can help him pull off a victory, that’s all fine, but he’s going to show everyone who runs the ticket once the election is safely behind him. He’ll bring her out when he needs to jam a particularly loathsome piece of legislation (such as amnesty) down our collective throats, but don’t look for her beyond that. Her purpose is to get the resentful base out to vote for him; after that, it’s off to the ‘undisclosed location’ for the next 4 years.
This is one of the reason’s I didn’t want McCain to pick Palin. She doesn’t deserve being the mouthpiece for his RINO sh*t policies. Whatever damage he does, she’ll be the one to pay the check; McCain will be 76 and walking off to retirement smirking, and hoisting the middle finger to the world in general.

austinnelly on September 27, 2008 at 12:26 AM

I think K-Lo is right Palin is holding back and that’s the opposite of her acceptance speech that wowed the nation.

Let her loose so she can hammer the liberal media, they’ll never love her but they can learn to respect her.

If McCain pulls this off and wins, and then acts like a Dem in office, Sarah Palin could just resign her VP spot due to the differences and how she would not want to be part of more socialism.

Sapwolf on September 27, 2008 at 12:44 AM

So far, McCain is that annoying boyfriend of your daughter that you wish she’d dump because he isn’t good enough for her.

Sapwolf on September 27, 2008 at 12:45 AM

I thought McCain held back on the economy. It would have been easy for McCain to blast Obama, Dodd and Frank on Freddie and Fannie. Why didn’t he?

Because Country First. A deal needs to be made. This weekend. Such an attack would not help.

Mr. Joe on September 27, 2008 at 1:05 AM

more people whining..

everyone has an opinion

Nobody seems to point out the the obvious double standard in the media..

Where are all those journalist trying to talk to all those angry black folks and hispanics in Chicago that were mad at him for doing business with Rezko? I;m sure there are some that were happy with Obama for selling them out for Campaign cash.. where are the stories? Are the reporters scared of walking into the South Side of Chicago because of the Gangs? hmmmm… Maybe Obama has a failed district?

Maybe Obama failed being a community organizer?

Why the high crime rate in his district? high taxes too.. that should have solved it… WTF..

Hmmm… why are those people fleeing to Indiana? (BTW, my parents are getting angry that the Illinois people are flooding into Indiana, tell Obama to fix his mess in Illinois and keep his trashy gang people in Illinois)

Exactly right about Palin. The Sarah we adore must not be repackaged, for any “strategic” reason whatsoever. That’s missing the entire point about her.

Halley on September 27, 2008 at 2:02 AM

Heck, I thought she should have dropped in on Keith Olbermann while she was in the Big Apple and charm his official Bush-Derangement-Syndrome socks off or be cheered for trying.

Ew. Sarah would earn her combat pay.

I just got myself a Sarah Palin tattoo! I got the stars of the Alaskan flag on my deltoid.

PALIN POWER!

KJo’s article was a trifle better than Kathleen Parker’s but only a trifle. Don’t forget how she snuck in Mitt-is-waiting-and-ready reference into it.

Some people are saying that the Mccain campaign is downing her confidence. Now what can we do to bolster her confidence for the debate next week? maybe stop using lib talking points to trash her.

highhopes on September 26, 2008 at 10:45 PM

Dan Quayle, 1988. Not enough to sink Bush Sr.’s candidacy, but it was close.

Thomas Eagleton, 1972. Can’t say that he’s what caused the avalanche that buried McGovern’s candidacy, but he certainly was one of the problems.

Curtis Lemay, 1968. George Wallace’s running mate on a 3rd-party ticket. As usual with 3rd party candidates, Wallace did not really have a chance of winning, but he certainly had a chance of diverting enough votes from Richard Nixon to put Hubert Humphrey into the White House. 1968 was not 2008, and Wallace’s segregationist credentials did not disqualify him from consideration back then; as much as we expected to hate him, my friends and I were shocked to admit that Wallace actually made good, conservative sense on most of his positions. Lemay, though, was frightening, a cold warrior that many of us were afraid could actually use The Bomb.

Vice Presidents can matter.

austinnelly on September 27, 2008 at 12:26 AM

I’m sorry, but this is just so much hooey.

First of all, McCain would be glad for Palin to shovel some conservative talking points for him. She’s the reason he’s palatable to conservatives; securing the base is her job.

And second of all, her problem has not been that she’s uncomfortable putting her mouth around moderate McCain’s talking points, it’s that she’s not comfortable even talking around the topics she’s being asked about.

Lopez is correct. They’re trying to brief Palin to the gills and get her up to speed for the national stage, and the problem with that is that that’s not who she is. She’ll never sound convincing as a policy wonk. They should let her be herself.

Frankly, I would find it refreshing to hear her say “Look, I’ve been focusing on my job in Alaska, so I don’t know beans (blubber?) about Waziristan or Putin’s politics. I just know how to get things done, and the things I’ve gotten done are things that Washington needs.” That’s authentic. We can forgive ignorance, ’cause it’s curable, but it has to be attached to competence.

philwynk on September 27, 2008 at 7:22 AM

Keep this in mind. I was in Anchorage weeks prior to Sarah’s election, and campaigned with her right by her side, those last 3 days (sign waving).

The very last poll to come out 3 days before the election had Dem Tony Knowles up by 5. We were scared sh*tless going into election day. Some of us openly thought we were going to lose.

At the downtown Egan Center the votes started rolling in around 8 pm. She won with over 10%.

Same here. Bet the last polls 3 days out will have McCain/Palin down by 5.

ericdondero on September 27, 2008 at 7:35 AM

So, was Gov. Palin right and Katie Couric wrong when Palin attested that Dr. Kissinger would want preconditions before meeting certain states?

eforhan on September 27, 2008 at 7:43 AM

The woman gets a plus 80% approval rating in Alaska without advisors or handlers. So I am betting she doesn’t need them. She’s already admitted she doesn’t agree with McCain on drilling in ANWAR, but yet the world didn’t explode.

Cut her loose and let her do her thing.

Hog Wild on September 27, 2008 at 8:19 AM

Many years ago, I was in the 82d Airborne at Ft. Bragg. A “buddy” (still a buddy) and I were looking at the Army Times where there was a picture of the first female to go through jump school. She was being picked up on the drop zone by a jeep. I complained about what BS that was… she should have to rigger-roll her ‘chute and double-time with it off the drop zone just like everyone else.

The conversation transformed to one of equal pay for equal work between men and women. I told him that I believed that if the work were truly equal, then the pay should be equal. He disagreed. After several rounds of back and forth, with him losing every point badly and his anger rising at each exchange, he finally stood and sputtered his real reason: “Because.. because I got a dick!” and walked away.

I’ve sensed some of that thinking around here and with some famous “DC Insider” conservatives….

CapedConservative on September 27, 2008 at 8:54 AM

Mrs. Palin is being treated like a simpleton. But everything she has said is simply true. She sees straight thru to the target, like the hunter she is. I have reread her RNC speech of September 3 and my favorite line is: “But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions…and a servant’s heart”. Sarah has all of these qualities and she is right again. She will be a larger and transformed figure on Thursday nite: very facile with the markets, the economy, energy security and mindful of the people in play in foreign policy….Elizabethan….Thatcheresque….just watch and see.

gracie on September 27, 2008 at 9:12 AM

Did someone say “Kathleen Parker”? Because Kathleen has a new admirer–the leftist, liberal Liberal rag, the Toronto Star.

Ah, nothing like being an internationally-recognised columnist, eh, Kathleen? Who knows—maybe she can get a gig with the CBC as pretend-conservative token?
