Polls: McCain loses two points in Rasmussen, three in Gallup and Hotline

Gallup still has him within three but he’s slipped to seven back in Hotline and five back in Rasmussen, where he and The One have traded leads of one or two points for the better part of four months. A backlash after he pulled out of the debate? Or is this just further byproduct of Obama’s lead on the economy? Hotline ventures a guess:

Also this: “When asked how the financial news/events will affect their vote in Nov., 48% said it would not. Among those who said it would, 29% said it would make them more likely to support Obama, 16% said they’d be more likely to support McCain.” Meanwhile, Rasmussen claims that McCain’s lead among white women is almost gone and that, incredibly, Obama now draws the same level of support among Dems that McCain does among Republicans, suggesting that Clintonites are at last coming home.

As for the trends in swing state polls, let’s just avoid the subject entirely, shall we?

Maybe we should stop thinking about politics for awhile. Here’s a clip of Canadian football players playfully celebrating a touchdown with Duck Duck Goose. Aw.

But we need to keep breathing.

By Election Day, the markets likely will have found a groove, regardless of what Congress does in the next few days. One can sustain panic and hysteria for only so long.

(and if it’s all gone to hell, then maybe we’d rather be out of power for four years)

We will have had debates. The nation will know all four candidates better, especially the three whom it does not yet know well – Obama, Palin, and Biden.

So, there’s a long way to go, with plenty of opportunity for both elation and depression in the meantime, if one is so inclined. (And all of us must be so inclined, a bit, as we follow Allah and his meter of despair.)

And, it is nowhere written that the Republicans are assured of winning every time.

I don’t normally put much stock in these polls but what McCain pulled with Letterman really hurt his credibility. I love Palin, but admit it guys, she looked shaky as hell in that Couric interview. As far as the bailout, the republicans need to call out Pelosi and Reid, if they think it’s such a good plan, vote on it.

McCain and Palin need to ace their debates or it’s over. Maybe I’m channeling Eeyore today but I just don’t think the media will let Obama slip like before.

Anyone else noticing the trend taking place today on the cable news networks?

All of the Democrat “strategists” are saying the candidates need to focus on the troubling economy in tonight’s debate. They say that’s what is on the mind of the American voter and the public needs to know where the candidates stand on the issue. All of this punditry ignores the fact that foreign policy and national security were set as the topic of discussion many months ago.

Translation: Changey Hopey no likey to talk about foreign policy and national security and knows McCain is about to hand him his hat on those topics.

Prediction: NBC hacks moderating the debate will turn it on it’s head, play into Obama’s hands, ignore the agreed upon topic and go full bore into addressing the financial crisis at hand.

Count on it.

I think I said the election against Algore was the most important, and then came Kerry. I said THAT was the most important election. NOW, I am saying this is the most important election. Each time we had as opponents MARXIST! And now we have a candidate that is even LEFT of Algore, and Kerry. It kinda makes you wonder who is going to be next? Satan? Oh yeah, it will be that Alinsky, Lucifer loving Hillary Clinton. Yep, Satan will be running next.

I read the CC furnished article, and the one thing that stands out is the fact that people could really do an about face come the reckoning of pulling the switch, punching the paper or coloring in the circle with the #2 pencil. I do think people are going to see this whole week as McCain being pro-active. Obama said, “Knock 3 times on the ceiling if you want me!”

It may take some time for the American mostly center voters to recognize this, but the 3 leading Democrats that were at that meeting yesterday did not come out in a joint press conference saying THE ONE MANCHILD COMMUNITY ORGANIZER had done a swell job. You know we have been told by THE ONE himself that he can make the seas go down, and heal the planet. So why in the hell could he not champion the American taxpayers yesterday? It is rather odd considering all those magically delicious talents he is suppose to have. Even his VP candidate, Gaffe Joe has said he is clean and articulate; the picture is just not jiving.

As we are watching this all unfold there are several things I think Negative Nellies need to remember. This places the focus on Conservatism, and how every time it is applied, it works. It places the focus on the need for the electorate to pay attention to those in Congress who are really putting the American electorate as the most important thing for them and not appealing to the world body electorate. It places character in the lead. Who had the character to attempt to do the right thing? Who has character of these two? Who is having to have his advisors tell him what to do as opposed to just acting on what your gut tells you? The Dems are saying the was a political stunt, but is that how Americans see this? I doubt it. McCain has a history to point to and Obama has a speech and pissing everyone off in that room yesterday.

The next question is- what are you as a HotAir person going to do about all this? Are you out campaigning or spreading the word through the internet or making calls? I am not trying to preach, but this has reached the level of the press not doing its job in getting out the truth. I know, big Duh? But seriously WE are all going to have to do something. We have to be those “We The People” our Founders loved so much. So in the immortal words of Joe Obiden, “Stand up! God luv ya!”

Gallup was tied just yesterday… and theres well over a month left, so it can swing right back in a few days.

Looks like McCains debate stunt didnt work and he’s getting hit on it. Bailout delay seems to work in Obamas favor as well.

Debate’s on- and good or bad, McCain just got millions and millions of free publicity to watch a debate alot of people probably would have missed because its on a Friday.

And its foreign policy- McCain’s going to do very well, if not outright cream Obama.

When people stop reading and hearing things and start watching McCain like at Saddleback, he does extremely well.

This bad week will be forgotten by tomorrow.

I understand the country’s disaffection with Republicans, but I don’t see how we can turn the keys over to the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, and Frank. Too bad McCain lost his grip on the energy issue. These clowns will have us rubbing sticks waiting for technology to develop their crackpot energy sources.

I look at Obama’s resume, and he has about one year of private-sector economic experience. The rest of his adult life has been in the non-profit, governmental, and academic sectors. Where’s his economic expertise–academic or otherwise? I’ll concede his self-employment income from the book royalties, but that’s largely a function of his celebrity status.

Take a look at his and his wife’s tax returns dating back to 2000. From 2000 through 2004, they had no dividend income; meanwhile, they had interest income in only two of those five years–and less than $50 in each of those years. For 2005, 2006, and 2007, they had a fair amount of taxable interest income. They also had some amount of dividend income for 2005 and 2006, but none in 2007. In 2005 or 2006 they bought and sold two stocks for a net loss of about $13,000. They must have become afraid of equities because they had about $45K of tax-exempt interest in 2007. I’m convinced that Obama can’t run a lemonade stand.

I’m with Fiorini; no one on the two tickets can run a business. But McCain seems to believe in our country and in capitalism; incontrast, Obama doesn’t. Seems to me that America, imperfect as it is, aspires to be the land of equal opportunity not the land of equal results. Obama and his buddies will screw us up even worse as they shoot for equal results.

FWIW: when foreclosures are discussed tonight, I hope McCain can ask Obama to explain to Americans how Obama managed to get $300K knocked off of his home when the seller was asking $1.65M in a seller’s market. That’s some advice that all of us could use. I certainly reduced the amount that Obama and his wife were required to borrow to buy the place.

The MSM slams McCain and Palin incessantly yet the polls, on the whole, are virtually tied. That tells me that the average citizen isn’t very confident in Obama.

Even though tonight’s debate is supposed to be in McCain’s wheelhouse, all he has to do is come out the way he went in. Call it the Bradley Effect if you like, but McCain wins the election with Obama within five in the polls. It isn’t racial, though, it’s about confidence, or lack thereof, in the character of the man.

As someone said earlier, I really think that McCain’s actions could still really help him. If they come up with a more palatable bill soon and it passes then he’ll get credit and I think he’ll take over the economy issue.

Basically I think this was a gamble on his part and we just don’t know if it’s paid off yet.

As for the debate, as Karl Rove said, the first one is the most important since it shapes people’s perceptions on the others. If McCain makes Obama look like an idiot then Obama will have a hard time turning it around. But if McCain loses the first debate then we might just have reason to panic.
