It’s going to be a busy evening for this blogger.  In addition to live-blogging the first Presidential debate of the general election, I’ll make three radio appearances as well with good friends (all times Eastern):

  • 7:10 – I’ll join John Gibson on his Fox Radio show for bailout and debate talk.
  • 10:35 – Rob Breakenridge asks about the debate and the overall political campaign for his CHQR listeners in Calgary on AM 770.
  • 11:20 – Hugh Hewitt’s post-debate analysis will go for 90 minutes after the end of the event, and I’ll join him about half-way through that.

All of these shows stream to the Internet, so be sure to join me!

Live blogging: the equivalent of standing on a highway median and conversing with passing traffic.

No thanks, Ed.

That’s funny, cuz it’s true.

ManlyRash, I am so nervous I may just read the open thread. I sure hope Sen. McCain kicks butt.

The good senator will acquit himself honorably, Miss Cindy. Of this I am certain.

ManlyRash on September 26, 2008 at 6:45 PM

My wife just asked to find out what time the “so-called debate” is. Any of you 24/7 HA freaks know the answer?

Saltysam on September 26, 2008 at 6:49 PM

9:00 on Fox News.

From your mouth to God’s ear.

Cindy Munford on September 26, 2008 at 6:57 PM

Love Gibson. I wish Rush would on later for analysis.

Actually, I wish Rush would debate Obama instead of McCain.

I guess you can tell that I am really worried for McCain. I want a combative guy like he is in the senate, not a kitten.

jencab on September 26, 2008 at 6:59 PM

9pm EST=2am GMT argh, do I stay up and watch it or wait for the recap of the slaughter?

Alert The Media:

Ted Kennedy taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Condition Unknown.

Sakaki on September 26, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Break a leg!

*eats*

Grue in the Attic on September 26, 2008 at 7:01 PM

Yes but we’re on DST so 9:00pm EDT = 01:00 GMT

db on September 26, 2008 at 7:03 PM

McCain will do fine.

It’s the *cough* moderators that I am concerned with.

Oh and that other guy is guaranteed to stammer, refuse to take a position on anything and reverse any positions that he has previously suggested on everything else.

Then in the post game analysis, they will say McCain dropped dead of an apparent heart attack forcing Obama to heal him with his magical powers before ascending back to heaven on a cloud from which he spake, “Call me is you need me”

Ted Kennedy taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Condition Unknown. – Sakaki on September 26, 2008 at 7:00 PM

If true, then I pray for his recovery and the comfort of his family.

ManlyRash on September 26, 2008 at 7:04 PM

What time is the debate?

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Someone please comment on the thoughts of the only man to debate both McCain and Obama!!

He calls it a “competition among liars”. Heh.

SouthernGent on September 26, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Look up.

db on September 26, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Oops! Saw it.

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 7:09 PM

Never have so few taken so many for so much.

Oddball: Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? Crazy! I mean like so many positive waves maybe we can’t lose! You’re on!

Kelley’s Hero’s headlines tonight’s debate.

GO, JOHNNY, GO!

maverick muse on September 26, 2008 at 7:12 PM

God’s speed to all concerned.

Eh. He complained of not feeling well what ever that means.

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 7:19 PM

Ed, bless you. I’ll pray that you have the strength and mental clarity to face and accomplish the task before you.

davidk on September 26, 2008 at 7:20 PM

Prayers for Sen. Kennedy and his family. And a few thrown Bob Novack’s way while we are at it.

…Mr. McCain comes from a background of knowing your onions…fighter pilots are like that….

…Mr. Obama comes from a land where style is substance…so, a lot of his preparation will have been not to try to swallow and wonkishly regurgitate facts, but to look smooooooooooooth…lie convincingly….

…this he does quite well…his running mate doesn’t, but he does…he can easily hold his minions in thrall…then again, most of the people in the Nuremburg arena agreed with the little guy on the dias agreed with that era’s “agent of change”…so, one has to keep ones eye both on the “true believer” and his object of worship….

…Obama’s gonna say something to p*ss off McCain…I just know it…some smarmy comeback or arrogant little look…when he does, that’s the moment I’ll be waiting to see….

Drudge says Ted Kennedy’s been taken to the hospital by ambulance

RushBaby on September 26, 2008 at 7:14 PM

“Pass this bill for Kennedy’s sake!”

Wellstone redux.

Actually, I wish Rush would debate Obama instead of McCain.
jencab on September 26, 2008 at 6:59 PM

If Rush were to debate Obama, his camp would just send a cardboard cutout of the one. They couldn’t chance him stuttering for 2 hours.

Blackhawk45 on September 26, 2008 at 7:23 PM

Yes but we’re on DST so 9:00pm EDT = 01:00 GMT

db on September 26, 2008 at 7:03 PM

Why, thank you.

Saltysam on September 26, 2008 at 7:27 PM

…Kennedy…whatever it is, it won’t be good…the word “malignant” isn’t thrown around lightly.

…prayers indeed…prayers for family, as well, for saving faith and for help over what will be the difficult bits to come…they never go amiss….

Puritan1648 on September 26, 2008 at 7:28 PM

Maybe I’m not familiar with the term “fighter pilot” as it is being used in reference to McCain, but I thought he was a bomber pilot. Isn’t there a diffence between a fighter pilot and a bomber pilot?

Sue on September 26, 2008 at 7:34 PM

Isn’t there a diffence between a fighter pilot and a bomber pilot?

Yes, one drops bombs, the other shoots rockets.

Blake on September 26, 2008 at 7:37 PM

McCain flew A-4 Skyhawks. They are classified as an an attack aircraft — also known as fighter-bombers.

db on September 26, 2008 at 7:39 PM

Be sure to ask Hugh how Romney would have performed if he were in McCain’s shoes tonight.

Valiant on September 26, 2008 at 7:40 PM

Thanks.

Sue on September 26, 2008 at 7:42 PM

3:oo am Moskow time I think.

Putin will be up eating popcorn no doubt.

Over.

Kennedy appears to be OK. Reporting it was due to a change in medication and he is expected to leave the hospital soon.

db on September 26, 2008 at 7:50 PM

Rock on Ed!

HoosierCon on September 26, 2008 at 7:56 PM

Good shots of A4 Skyhawks, here.

http://www.globalaircraft.org/planes/a-4_skyhawk.pl

They were tough planes. One came back to the Enterprise when I served on her. It had a hole in one wing big enough for three guys to stand in it.

Star20 on September 26, 2008 at 8:48 PM

a little off topic but: anyone think Hugh’s smile is one of the creepiest things on the planet?….

Drunk Report on September 26, 2008 at 9:34 PM

I thought McCain held back on the economy. It would have been easy for McCain to blast Obama, Dodd and Frank on Freddie and Fannie. Why didn’t he?

Because Country First. A deal needs to be made. This weekend. Such an attack would not help.
