the secret ballot problem is moot if they don’t get a vote at all…

only the owners of the companies should choose if they allow a union… if employees don’t like it they can leave… unions destroy businesses. just because employees don’t have the spine to demand fair pay or leave… instead they rely on the mob/union to hold the companies ransom from production or service… pushing prices ever higher… and killing our ability to compete world wide. your job is worth as much as someone is willing to pay you to do it…

if you find your employer will not pay you more or give you more benefits, then it’s time to start looking for a new job while you work for him… then move over into another industry or another employer who will offer you what you want. if no one will work for him, then he’ll increase his pay and probably his price… but if he’s held hostage and his prices keep going up every 1/4 3% eternally… he’s not going to keep producing….

no one is saying you can’t talk about how much you make and how much you want to make and share that with your profession’s peers… but a specific group ransoming specific companies one at a time, holding them hostage with law suits and work stopages… that does no one any good… it make people close shop. and move or just close shop.

See, I’d just turn this around on Democrats. I’d make ads saying that Democrats want to let companies fire workers who attempt to unionize, by making the names of those who vote for the union public.
That’s why they did secret ballots in the first place.

Actually, this bill puts workers under threat from union organizers (blackmail, threats, physical intimidation), AND possible management retaliation.

I was dropped into the rather farcical TA union as a grad student (or, at least, dues were taken automatically from my paycheck). I seriously would have taken a pay cut just so that the union didn’t get a cut of my pay. As it was, I completely ignored the strikes (which the university didn’t recognize as legal, anyway).

Hey, I have an idea.

Why not just hold a private election among Union Members to see if they want public ballots?

I know, there is no room for this sort of thinking in DEMOCRAT Party circles.

My uncle (a member of the Teamster’s Union) tells a story (proudly, I might add) about how he and another coworker were sent to spend a day following a guy that wasn’t crazy about joining the union. They never approached him and they didn’t physically harm him or his property (which is why my uncle seems to think there was nothing wrong with what they did) but the guy got the message and stopped causing trouble for the union.

That, in a shameful nutshell, is why secret ballots on union matters are absolutely necessary.

There argument is (I am not on their side, so don’t diss me on this):
Everyone benefits from the unions negotiations, they can’t have two classes of people for pay, unions and non-unions, so their argument is that the unions benefit all people. The companies would entice people not to join to bankrupt the unions, or that non-union members receive the benefits of union involvement without supporting the union. Therefore, everyone must be unionized. And the courts have gone along with this reasoning.

I’m still confused as to how it can be possible (constitutional)at all for there to be a way for unions to force unwilling workers to join just because more than half of their coworkers want to. Can someone explain that to me?

Not an expert, but in many states (non Right-to-work states) you must be a union member to work in a union shop. Michigan is one of these states. I am guessing that if the shop goes 51% for the union and you want to keep your job, you pay the dues.
