Video: Visiting pastor prays over Palin for protection from witchcraft

Tapper’s got a good quickie recap to bring you up to speed. Skip ahead to 8:30 for the money bit. The left wants payback for Wright (Hagee and Parsley don’t quite suffice, evidently) so here’s their tu quoque for “God damn America,” I guess. Why prayers about witchcraft would be deemed alarmingly kooky or outre when prayers about angels, demons, or Satan are perfectly mundane and unexceptional escapes me, but then an atheist would say that, wouldn’t he? Meanwhile, Bill Donohue, as quoted by Tapper, makes a level-headed point (for once) about how different cultures understand evil. Is it really shocking that a guy who comes from a part of the world where they believe in witchcraft would pray for protection from it? Was Palin supposed to have run screaming from the altar when he mentioned it rather than have stood there politely and waited for him to finish? The One stuck with Trinity for decades; if he had stayed with them for a few years but then roused himself to quit over Wright (as Oprah appears to have done), I’d wager voters would have been a lot more forgiving.
What the pastor says about “Israelites” is dicier but, as Tapper notes, ambiguous. It could be a compliment or it could be an Ahmadinejad-esque insinuation about the shadowy people who control the banks. Judge for yourself, but then answer me this: Isn’t the current line among Palin-haters that she’s an empty vessel whom the dastardly neocons are reprogramming to do Israel’s bidding? The word “indoctrination” has been used, if I’m not mistaken. How are we supposed to impute the pastor’s sentiments to her if we’re busy pretending she’s some sort of Likudbot?
Update: “OUT OF MY MOUTH, FOUL JESUS COOKIE!”

I don’t see any problem about this at all. A visiting minister from Africa expresses a concern about witches. The liberals freak out.
So much for “multiculturalism” eh? Palin obviously played her part, reaching out for tolerance and understanding.
I also missed the “God Damn America” part. Ooops, wrong preacher.

I’m thinking neither Hillary or Peloci should get too close to Palin. I can see it now…. AAhhkkkk and I’m melting… melting..

I can’t see the video from the computer I’m at… when was it supposedly done? Before or after she was named as V.P. nominee?
Having seen the left’s reaction to Gov. Palin since she was named to the ticket, I have no doubt whatsoever that Obama supporters are resorting to witchcraft, voodoo, channeling bad thoughts, and anything else they can think of directed her way.
Isn’t praying for protection from all that just a good idea?
malclave on September 25, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Other than the pastor implying that non-Christians are a bunch of corrupt hedonists intent on destroying the country I didn’t have any problem with it.

Well, I was going to post something thoughtful about the notion that the MSM and the political left is fine with religion as long as one doesn’t actually believe what one is saying, but then Ace posted his latest and I realize that my response can’t be better than that.
If an agnostic can have a laugh over this and see it for what it is, I’m not going to go out of my way to present a serious apologetic. It wouldn’t be Thursday if someone in the Obama campaign/MSM (I repeat myself) wasn’t getting Christophobic on me.

Let’s admit the real reason this Palin Preacher thing has ZERO effect. He isn’t making war with White People ala Wright. White People are the majority, Obama needs their votes. This Palin preacher only re-inforces the bias of people already voting for Obama.
AYNBLAND on September 25, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Rev. Wright didn’t “disqualify” Obama, but he should have taken a much bigger hit for it.
The worse part, IMHO, was his insistence that he sat in the congregation for 20 years yet never heard anything (and even if he did, it had no influence on him).

In rural Kenya, there’s nothing imaginary about the practice of witchcraft, and its often associated with criminal gang culture. Criminals use it to frighten their enemies and their victims.
RBMN on September 25, 2008 at 11:32 PM
As long as the guy was giving out Protection From Witchcraft, Sarah should have asked him for Blessing Of Might. That would really come in handy when she’s tanking Joe Biden and giving McCain time to throw some DOTs on Obama.
Doctor Zero on September 25, 2008 at 11:39 PM
AP, you are being overly glib about atheism. There is no point in atheism unless one is willing to point out the evils of religion, and the problem with prayers about witchcraft–unlike angels, demons, or Satan–is that those prayers imply a witch. A witch is an innocent human victim of religious lunacy. Two days ago, I read a post at alternet.com about an innocent victim of Thomas Muthee’s witch hunting.
Let me be clear that alternet.com is for the most part insane in its beliefs, but in this particular case, they point to the real world implications of belief in witchcraft, and it’s far from pretty–the bullying of old women.
Hotair may be pretty right-wing, but surely almost everyone here would denounce witch-hunting.

Too bad she wasn’t protected against dipsh*ts.
With the hollow exposure of the frequency and nature of the wizzer of duhs visits and interactions with seemingly crazy cultural ceremonies, this seems rather lame.
I’d rather my candidate be blessed against witchcraft than allied with the fans of Lucifer.
She is however the VP cand. and Obama struggles against the chinese fingertrap….
KZnextzone on September 25, 2008 at 11:57 PM
Umm, well I am an Israelite and you’d have to be a moron to read those comments as anything but a pastor calling for stronger ethical Christian leadership & strength in business, as modeled by his view of the Israelites. It seems Palin is our friend.
Obama and his merry 20 year anti semitic mentor scare the daylights out of me.
saus on September 26, 2008 at 12:03 AM
You are not kidding! Just inquire about all those Kenyan, Kikuyu Christians that were murdered by Raila Odinga and his MARXIST gang.
If evil, witches and Satan do not exist then why did we have programs like “Bewitched”, movies like the “Exorcist” and how about “Children of the Corn”? There are all kinds of other tv shows and movies whose makers thought enough folks out here either believed in these things, or that these topics would make money scaring the hell out of us. To me you are not afraid of something unless you think it is a possibility.
Most of us know evil exist, 9-11 and all those tapes we saw of Saddam and his sons executing people and tossing them off buildings definitely proves evil does exist. Stalin, Hitler, Chavez, Castro and now Putin definitely conjure up very evil deeds.
For those of us who believe in the Bible, and acknowledge the contents as being the truth; well something like this would be in order if you were concerned about evil. Some of us have our homes blessed by preachers with holy oil in order to protect our homes from evil. And really, who would not want to be protected from bad things and bad people. Is that not why we have cops and law enforcement?
I believe there is a Devil. I believe there are witches. I believe there is evil. I believe in making sure I do everything possible to protect me from all three!
freeus on September 26, 2008 at 12:06 AM
The quote is not in context. And the context of Ace’s story is funny and demonstrates the sort of tolerance I would want shown to Catholics by those who are not. I am an adult convert to Roman Catholicism.
There are posts on HotAir that clearly demonstrate sectarian bias and anti-religious bias and several other biases. When up to it, I try to respond in as non-hostile and thoughtful a manner as I can. Otherwise I just move on. And sometimes, having a sense of humor helps.

The very fact that a black guy was able to visit Palin’s church makes her church about 1000 times less racist than anyplace Bill Clinton pretended to worship at.
Speedwagon82 on September 26, 2008 at 1:47 AM
An here I thought it was simply a lack of belief.
Anyway, wouldn’t it make more sense for a true Atheist to attribute mankind’s vicious behavior to the fact that we’re barely evolved primates, thus making “religion” a mere symptom of our fundamental nature? I mean … considering the killings done under regimes who were deliberately Atheist, it would seem that religion is a relatively minor motivator for killing compared to good old greed.
TheUnrepentantGeek on September 26, 2008 at 1:59 AM
So what’s all the hub-ub, bub? I see nothing wrong with this at all. Different folks call “evil” by different names.
Move along. Nothing to see here. People are just jealous of Sarah, they cannot stand to have to believe that she is a normal, God-fearing Christian mother of 5 who loves her country.
MsUnderestimated on September 26, 2008 at 2:18 AM
What else do they have?
The money we send their doesn’t do any good.
A friend of mine who has visited there, says that they have mostly religious broadcasting, the likes of TBN with preachers peddling the if-you-pay-me-money-God-will-bless-you meme.
(I believe it hurts the poor people of Africa and benefits the preachers only), but the point was made that the people will even follow scheisters because the government has failed them.

jgapinoy on September 25, 2008 at 11:27 PM
………………………..
jgapinoy,
Of course it all arose from non-living matter. I thought everyone knows that!
By the way, have they proven where non-living matter came from?
Have they proven that life arose from non-living matter?
Or course we all know that the human embryo, during a short time in the early stages of his or her life, before she becomes a human being, while she is still just non-life, only potential life, and only a potential human being, that “it” passes through different stages of “its” evolutionary ancestry, passing through the stage of a fish, a frog, a turtle, a chicken, a macaque, etc.
In fact, we have proof that this is true!
You see, in the early stages the embryo has gills and slits like a fish, and a tail, and looks like a worm.
In fact, it even has a trunk, like an elephant, and feet, like a gorilla, before its feet become more human like.
In fact, it actually has fins and a tail, like a fish, and swims around in water, like a fish, before it starts to look more and more like a human being.
jgapinoy,
Did you know that the pre-embryo even passes through the stages of a dinosaur before it passes through the stages of a chicken, a macaque, a gorilla, and a chimpanzee?
It isn’t until just before the baby is born that it magically becomes human like, and it is not until “it” is born that it actually becomes a human baby.
I am glad that I know, beyond a doubt, and I have observed, directly, that all life came from non-living matter, that it all “evolved” by accident and mutations, without any purpose or design, without any information or intelligence involved, and that the thing inside the womb of a living human woman is not a human till it is born, and that until it is born, it could be a giraffe, a velacoraptor, a turtle, a salamander, a rooster, a chicken, a fish, a skunk, a plant, a weed, and so forth.
Yes, Dawkins is correct. Little green men, travelling space in flying saucers, travelling beyond the speed of light for millions of years, seeded the earth, and planted a zoo here, an experiment, and we are the experiment.
So many beliefs, so little reasoning or evidence to support it.
Isn’t Darwinism-Evolutionism great?
William2006 on September 26, 2008 at 2:54 AM
The more I see the MSM, the left, Obama’s minions, the Democrats, the “elite – I am smater than your ‘cuz I went to Harvard” thugs trying to make Sarah go away, the more they trash her, and the more I see her, the more I like her.
I do not know her personally, yet, through the avenue of media, of video interviews, etc., I find her rather refreshing and quite likeable.
I trust Sarah Palin more than Obama or Biden.
William2006 on September 26, 2008 at 3:00 AM
Notice:
The post above in which I stated that the pre-embryo inside a human mother passes through stages of evolutionary ancestry, and that it is a worm, has gills and slits like a fish, swims like a fish, becomes a macaque, and all that, and that it isn’t really human until it is born, is all mere sarcasm, targeting the false teachings that many still believe.
The human being is NEVER a “pre-embryo.” That terminology is non existent in the field of Human Embryology. The term is prepertrated by those who are not Human Embryologists, and it is a scientifically inaccurate term.
The human being begins life as an embryo, followed by the fetal stage. At no time does the embryo or fetus ever go through stages of “evolutionary ancestry.”
It was a myth perpetrated by a staunch Darwinist, who lived at the same time as Darwin’s, Earnst Haekle. It has been debunked for more than 100 years. yet people still believe it as fact. That includes science teachers and textbooks, who still are not aware that it is a fraud, and a bleak time in history.
Human beings never have gills, or slits, or gill slits, they are never worms, or dinosaurs, or monkeys, or fish, or turtles, salamanders, and so on.
Human beings are, from the beginning, only human beings, passing through various overlapping stages of development throughout their lives, into adulthood.

This could drive the rabid left over the edge—“This Palin has stolen everything from us! How are Alcee Hastings meals prepared? Are his cows and chickens euthanasized with sleeping gas and sweet music? What a “civilized” tool.

Peace_Sells... on September 26, 2008 at 4:36 AM
apologies for belaboring the point…but if Afrocentic Multiculturalists like Wright take offense to this they are drowning themselves in a sea of hypocrisy.
Wright travelled to Libya to show support for Ghadafi, who trains, supports, and supplies the genocidal horsemen of the apocaplyse who slaughter innocents in Darfur.
Wright and his travel companion, Louis Farrahkan, are not supportive of all blacks in Africa. They deny slavery still exists to prop up Islamic totalitarian governments. Their motivations are sectarian…the worst sort of divisiveness that cripples the world.
Please, Barack, explain your Pastor’s stance on Africa….
Western African Animists, and Christians, are subhuman and deserve to be enslaved…

I cannot attest to this minister’s personal faith. Whether there is some serious syncretism like Hussein’s mixture of Christianity and his own “Muslim faith” (yes, I believe he slipped there) or not, I don’t know. Even so, in our PC age, when Hussein cannot be called out on his, what would the Left expect GOV Palin to do, say [VERY UN-PC EXCLAMATORY OMITTED]?
It’s not an attack on her participation in this event. It’s an attack on her faith (though we cannot go after Hussein’s), and in fact the faith of all AG/Pentecostals, and ultimately all religious people.
Tommygun on September 26, 2008 at 5:08 AM
This gives them a big problem. That’s an African guy conducting the service. If they play this up, they just show how Sarah is multicultural.
Same exact problem they have with 3rd parties. They talk about Sarah’s connections to the Alaska Indepence Party, which are rather weak. But Sarah has much stronger ties to the Alaska Libertarian Party.
Notice you don’t ever hear anything about that? Cause, the LP association would be a great positive for Sarah Palin. So, the liberal media just ignores that and emphasizes the AIP.

You’re confusing atheism with anti-theism.
And while there seems to be many who think they are one and the same, atheism properly and fully understood simply means no belief in God.
Which does NOT immediately lead to an antagonism toward religion.
Just like being a Christian doesn’t make me an anti-atheist (although there are Christians who think they are one and the same).
The difference really is the focus – are you more concerned about YOUR beliefs or are you more concerned about SOMEONE ELSE’S beliefs.

Sorry I missed this last night, but this is not Sarah Palin’s church and wasn’t in 2005. She attends the Wasilla BibleChurch and has since she was 38 years old. Since she is 44 now, that means that she has not attended the church for 6 years. When is someone going to call the media on this! This video exposes the origin of the spritual conflict that exists between Gov Palin and the MSM/Obama axis. Now we know why Gov. Palin “electrified” the presidential race and overnight rallied the Reagan Coalition back to Sen. McCain’s side. She is performing in the Spirit of Elijah role for our day. The prayers spoken by the Holy Spirit thru Pastor Muthee were to strengthen Sarah Palin for her coming contest against the Jezebell spirit now seeking political power over the USA {e.g., katie couric and the rest of theMsm/Obama axis].
jimw on September 26, 2008 at 8:42 AM
Those prayers of the Pastor worked. Look at how far Sarah Palin has come since he prayed for her. Look at how many weapons of her enemies have come to naught. Seems like he’s someone you’d want on your side.
Oh, and if politely receiving the words of a religious person, or dressing up in their garb without objection, makes one wholeheartedly agree with those beliefs, then what are we to make of this?:

Video of religious Christians showing fear of malice and Sarah seeking protection among pundits. The reality lies in the heart, and our own Self conscience is a greater barrier from any evil. We are our own master, or else it can be very dangerous to seek spiritual protection outside.

I think it’s rather moving, actually.

I’m Sorry! When Sarah appeared and made those first two speeches (intro and convention) I was excited beyond belief!
But now, after hearing her repeat and repeat, and stumble over questions, I’m crashing down about her.
I think she SHOULD back out and let ROMNEY appear like the a Financial-knowledge Super Hero to take her place.
Pretty-please?

huh? What did you do, SLEEP through the 6 week long 24/7 Rev Wright marathon on all the MSM and Fox?

A voice of reason the the darkness. Sometimes making a bonehead move like picking a person who is not as qualified as probaby 15 people you personally know is not mavericky, but boneheaded.
It’s probably way too late to do it now, but where were these voices of reason weeks ago, I guess they were just blinded by HER faith.

Exactly. This isn’t shocking at all. He is praying for God to protect Sarah against demonic attack. Witchcraft and demon are terms used interchangeably and/or in conjunction with each other in his part of the world. It’s no different for Christians here either. If you practice witchcraft you are of the devil. Even Hollywood uses this biblical teaching in some of their horror films.
Witches are mentioned in the Bible:
“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a WITCH. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth DRIVE THEM OUT FROM BEFORE THEE.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12
This is a good point. Look folks, there is nothing wrong with this at all. Nothing. In fact, Christian’s are supposed to pray for our leaders:
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; FOR KINGS, and for ALL THAT ARE IN AUTHORITY; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
And friends, praying for protection against demons…, you would do well yourself to ask God to place a hedge of protection around you! Demons exist! Make no mistake about it!! That’s why the Bible tells us to “put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:11-12).
These verses give us a brief glimpse of the tremendous spiritual forces arrayed against us. Demons are sent out by Satan with the mission to separate you from God. They’re job is to distract you from the truth!
2 Corinthians 4:4, “In whom the god (Satan) of this world hath BLINDED THE MINDS of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
That’s why 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
Take a look at this: ‘Demon’ leers over man’s shoulder. Now whether this picture is an actual demon or not, your guess is as good as mine. But, a photographic expert said the picture did not have evidence of tampering.
Folks, Satan is real! We need not be “ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11) the very first of which is to cause doubt in God’s Word (Genesis 3:1,4) and then to disobey it (Genesis 3:5-6). We can only stand against him if we are “strong in the Lord” (Ephesians 6:12) and wear “the whole armour of God.”
May the LORD bless you and protect you.
